This set genuinely, seriously, absolutely fucking sucks. It's not just that every single character's "alternate form" is the lamest most lazy bottom of the barrel zero-effort thematic swap without even an ounce of creativity. All the mechanics are maximally generic and almost all of them have already appeared in sets within the last year. The art is hideous and generic. This shit is TRASH man. All I wanted was weird colorshifted effects and instead I got "lol she cuts trees down now, geddit?" ho ly FUCK
Remember when this was a $20 card? I remember

>>98686711Sure it's advantageous in those scenarios, but I struggle to see when it would be enough to make you want to put the creature in a deck in constructed or even limited (except just as a 2 cost 3/2 filler).Maybe I'm assessing the card wrong though, I suppose the real value is meant to be the second bit that lets you repeatedly reuse fetch lands.

So now that 99.99% of the set is revealed...anything looking decent? Darklight Phoenix seems ok, Proft (forma de sicko) is a great enabler for lots of stuff, Carniverous Cultivator might not make the cut in Modern but its close...I'm not seeing much else.Perfected Theory or Twinned Vision nonsense, maybe?
Why the fuck is the "normal" version a different creature type now???
>>98687312That's probably moreso what's called an intentional reference. The bottom part is pretty similar (but you can tell it's not the same, likely just referenced) but the top part only looks alike, its composition is fairly different.

Even other Rakdos consider her an innovator when it comes to killing.>No one knows this better than the former guild leader Judith—who's currently learning the many ways skin can be separated from a body.>Explosions, fires, earthquakes—whenever danger comes for Ravnica, Rescue Girl is there! Her unmatched acrobatics let her climb the city's many spires in the blink of an eye. And despite what others might theorize, there's no magic involved. Rescue Girl is all skill.>Well, except for the healing. That's magical.>As Selesnya's preeminent hero, Rescue Girl has inspired first responders all over Ravnica. >>98687752>>98687752>A master of psychic powers, illusions, and duplication, Jace is building a new reality, plane by plane. Using the magic of the Meditation Realm, Jace learned how to transform an illusion into something real. He's created a reality without Phyrexians, never beset by Eldrazi, and free from the machinations of Nicol Bolas. Genuinely believing himself to be the Multiverse's "savior," Jace is optimistic he can make a difference, make a utopia. Jace is an intelligent, determined, and powerful wizard—one who has poured a great deal of himself into the creation of his Echoverse.>Tamira, or Tam to her friends, is on her way to figuring out who she is and who she wants to be. Created by Jace Beleren, Tam has dutifully followed and learned from her teacher. She has been his spy and agent in the Multiverse to gather the final pieces needed to stabilize the new reality. But meeting other students from Strixhaven has left her with doubts. She's still his creation, still a part of his grand project, though she's beginning to question his methods.
>>98687764do you really care?
>>98686667I genuinely do not. When was this? Most cards are locked in my head as the price I remember them being and therefore 'should' be (There was an 8 dollar Demonic Tutor that I think was probably MP and Academy Rector was 10 bucks at my LGS back when I was in undergrad and those are to this day the prices I believe those cards 'ought' to be) and BoP is locked in as a 5-8 dollar card. This was probably around M12-RTR era.
>Saheeli Rai has seen the many colors of dawn across many different skies and been inspired to create new works from all of them. Losing her Planeswalker spark hasn't slowed her down in the least.>A master inventor with a brilliant, unrelenting mind, Saheeli has returned to Avishkar after a stay in Ixalan with her beloved, Huatli. She's brought with her a bevy of fresh inspiration.>The dinosaur thopters roaming Avishkar are some of her favorite creations. Originally made to fend off the Phyrexian Invasion, they remind her every day of what the union of poetry and science can bring.>Saheeli Rai can account for every last drop of aether on Avishkar.>As consul of oversight, Saheeli surveys all of Avishkar via a complex network of thopter spies. Some avoid thopters altogether to try and hide from her prying eyes, but the truth is that her network extends even further. Trusted automatons, commercial vehicles, even the cherished family tea kettle can all report back to her in one way or another. Precise, all-consuming, detailed—Saheeli's surveillance is comprehensive.>Some say she missed her calling in the arts given the intricate designs of her most famous works. >>98687522Yeah, the irony here is that the red one is actually the much better card but people will lose their minds over the blue one.
Anti UB crowd, how are you feeling about the last set of 2026? The year as a whole?
>>98687827If FRA is what WotC consider a "good" universes within set then I'm not too excited about 2027/2028.
>>98687830Why?
>>98687779>She considers laws a checklist and morality a rather boring suggestion.it's canon that Massacre Girl raped someone to death and used racial slurs I wonder if there's a slur for vedalkens
>>98687823>>98687522I would be interested to hear why you think the blue one isn't as good as it looks and why the red one is very good.At a baseline, Split Second means 'your spells can't be countered'. It's been a while but the best comparisons are Lier (5cmc), Gaea's Herald (only creatures), and Vexing Susher (costs mana each time). This makes Samut pretty great on rate, especially looking at how Split Second also just makes your interactive spells much better as well.Looking through haste enablers I'll concede that (red) Samut is probably the best rate so far while also being a creature but I don't think it's THAT much of an upgrade to something like Goro-Goro or Crashing Drawbridge. And obviously Anger is better but is difficult to draw direct comparisons to.I don't think either card is bad but I think Split Second is a really powerful effect and 2 mana for it is very cheap. I'd place it a 1UU or 3U personally.
Friendly reminder pic or even cheap wooden wine case is infinitely better as deck box than whatever ugly overpriced plastic gear is marketed towards magic players.

>>98687862Remind me what format counterspells are good in again? Legacy / Vintage...and that's it. The blue Samut will be a one-of in some sideboards. >>98687949>you can't play this in decks that need to respond to their own spells or cast several spells in successionYou can use this in decks that need to cast several spells in succession because you as the active player still have priority immediately after your spell resolves. I genuinely cannot think of decks that require you to cast multiple spells on the stack other than Living End or other cascade decks and that's like saying 'RIP isn't very good because playing it in your own dredge deck is a nonbo'. I thought about LED and related shenanigens with stuff like Infernal Tutor but I don't think that's been a real deck in a long time and I'm pretty sure it actually doesn't matter because you are allowed to activate mana abilities 'in response' to Split Second and LED is still a mana ability.I'm genuinely curious, what decks does your own instants/sorceries having split second interfere with? It works through Storm because those are copies. Are there any decks that care about Reverberate/Narset's Reversal? Is Tibalt's Trickery still a thing anywhere?
>>98688096Well I'm not seeing Marang River Regent being played in Modern after being banned in Standard and Pioneer.

>>98688501It can trigger on the opponents turn
This set wants to be Time Spiral block 2 so bad, but it feels shallow and soulless. TS mixed up mechanics from the entire history of Magic. The echoverse is just opposite day: hero becomes villain, red mage becomes blue mage, smart becomes stupid. Orzhov Niv-Mizzet is the only interesting alt card.
>>98688909Some of them kinda work, like alt-Liliana being a healer due to her history, but other choices just feel so random. Why does Avacyn the dark angel exist if werewolf Sorin didn't make her? Why was Thalia ever a follower of Avacyn if she's blatantly evil? Why is Thalia still canonised as a saint if Avacyn's evil church ordered her execution? Every snapshot we get just falls apart under the lightest bit of scrutiny, and then the mechanics themselves aren't doing anything particularly spectacular either.

>>98688449Sorry, I always forget I'm talking to retards so I should have clarified, I'm talking about real formats. Given that I'm discussing the usability of the Samut cards, whether or not RDW has been viable in a long time only matters in formats that do not rotate. In standard the only thing that matters is whether something is currently viable and in spoiler season, whether or not something is on the cusp of being viable bar a few cards. Again, someone with an IQ above 90 could have inferred that based on a general understanding of how formats and usability work but, as I said, I forget who I am talking to.Even if that WASN'T the case, both Duskmorne and Bloomburrow were released 2 years ago. >>98689890Because the focus of the set is a universe where he never existed, and the real Bolas is currently busy thinking about how to get Ugin's cock back in his asshole.

Why should I submit myself to the torture that means playing Standard?

Avacyn, was a le EVIL angel instead of le good angel?>omgeeeeee everyone is going to slop this uppp!!!I'm mad enough that this set wasn't planer chaos 2 but was this really the best they could fucking come up with for a set centered around alternate universes? Not to mention the story gets status quo'd at the end so literally none of this shit will matter.
>>98690662>omgeeeeee everyone is going to slop this uppp!!!Except most mtg players including the normies, edhsloppers, and super casual players think this set is really fucking lame and tired of multiverseslop
>>98690662I know it takes time to design and physically print cards, but other than the lame alternate universe characters pretending its opposite day, this set came out 2 years too late everyone is already sick of multiverse shit
>>98690662I want to make sweet love to blue Chandra.>t. current UW control player in standard, soon to be a superfriends player
>>98690662I know they got rid of block sets but I genuinely don't understand why they didn't ride this one for a couple sets. It literally gives them the excuse to do Ravnica again for the 4127th time and Innistrad again for the 3891th time.
>>98690662I would not call Emrakul Freed and super-charged by devouring an entire other multiverse a status quo. In fact Jace kinda fuck up big time.
>>98690670In-universe sets aren't aimed at that demographic. They're aimed at the superslopper performative fans of this shitty game that actually cream their pants when they see Chandra and cry when Jace dies. That's why they cost half as much and are printed less than UB sets. Because MtG has ZERO appeal to anyone not already invested in the game. You tell 99% of people "yeah our protagonist is a narcissistic asshole who acts like a colossal autist and just gets away with it because he's a Mary Sue" and their first thought isn't "wow that's cool because it's a blue card so this is what a blue character with no WBRG personality traits looks like!" it's "wow that characters sounds poorly written." Made even worse when even learning this much about the character requires seeing their representation on cards being 90% Marvel-tier snarky quips and thinking "wow I want to learn more about this person this doesn't seem obnoxious at all."
It's crazy how Blex lasted at least a few years post-containment, but now the pests have seemingly gone extinct after one visit to Strixhaven. Either that, or they're so unremarkable that they don't even get targeted by Hexhaven.
This set should've been about Hexhaven only
>>98690746>Emrakul leaves her own self-imposed time out>"Yeah this is a huge Jace fuckup now the status quo shifted"Even when she was being put in the moon she made it clear that it was her choice and she could have mind crushed everyone there if she wanted. The biggest status quo change is unironically only the fact Jace is dead but even then I'm not holding my breath on WotC not bringing him back by saying he reconstructed himself from the memories in Tam. Nothing else fucking happened to the point this set is on-par with MKM in terms of "one character dies, they're instantly replaced, and nothing else changes."
>Amost 20% of the set will be legendary creatures>parasitic keyword only interacts with cards that grant extra abilities to planeswalkers you control>storyline wrapped up in one set>setting is fanfic version of a fanfic version of not Hogwarts>Multiverse tier villan had no buildup whatsoeverThey are not even trying anymore. Things happen so quickly. Urza spent a total of 3000 years preparing for the Phyrexian invasion and it was before the mending. Now post-mending planeswalkers gain and lose the power to alter them multiverse in a fraction of that time.
>>98690792They're never doing another Weatherlight again specifically because people hated being stuck in the buildup for years. This playerbase is, and always has been, a group of toddlers than need jingling keys to keep them entertained because the idea of seeing the same character 6 sets in a row while that character develops is abhorrent to a playerbase that wants an entirely new setting literally every set.
>>98690771The set is a fucking mess. It's supposed to introduce us to 5 factions we've never heard before while also dealing with Jace rewriting the entire multiverse. On top of that you have many slots reserved for legendary creatures, so there's almost no space left for worldbuilding. RF is the equivalent of a fashion show where models walk through the runway one after the other.
>>98690792>>98690798You genuinely would not like another weatherlight saga. This shit was the berserk boat arc of MTG and was MCUslop before the MCU existed with wacky quirky characters with le heckin quippy one-liners!
>>98690831Pretty much. It wasn't written much better, it just dragged on. That's why you can instantly flag anyone that says "WAH I WANT BLOCKS BACK!!!" as a LARPer because nobody actually liked this shit story dragging out even longer.
>>98690843I was too young to live the Weatherlight saga in first person, but the Mirrodin - Alara streak was peak MtG and most of it was block-based. Block structure is the reason Ravnica exists in the first place. Three sets gave the designers the chance to flesh out ten guilds (4+3+3) and the worldbuilding of the city plane.
>>98690843>>986908572 blocks was a sweet spot for most sets if there isn't a ton to explore so there isn't a shitty middle or end set after they clearly ran out of ideas. 3 blocks can be done for shit that needs a lot of time.
>>986908622 sets per plane is exactly how we got people whining about how it didn't feel like there was enough buildup for the story (BFZ, SOI) 1 set per plane allows WotC to just do some half-assed shit instead of pretending you're supposed to care about the writing.
>>98690894Ah yes, I'm sure a lot of people really fondly remember Dragon's Maze, or Journey to Nyx
>>98690901Well yeah that's why 3 sets per block didn't work either. If WotC made a dud you were stuck there for a whole fucking year and most of the time nobody wanted sets 2 or 3 of a block because they were smaller (fewer cards to pull) and not independently draftable (well, not if you wanted draft to not suck).
>>98689578They couldn't spell "Monday" yet they spelled "Wednesday" perfectly?
>>98690986I actually think this is kinda cool. I hate WoTC and think they're a bunch of woke wankers but this set seems kinda cool. At least it's not UB.
>>98686602Jace x Vraska = Tam?Or surrogate parent?
>>98689838>>98686825Didn't we get like three different versions of this card in the Marvel set?
>>98691011
>Drew like a dark, fucked up version of codie the biblioplex mascot haha. Just a glimpse into my dark reality.
Samut is speed; speed is life.
>>98691042>speed is life.>t. bug
>>98691011Jace imagined what his and Vraska's kid would look like and made her real
>>98690990The concept is actually pretty cool but as others already mentioned - there's just too much shit for one set. I don't think that a proper block structure is needed, but there's material for like 3 sets loosely tied within the same storyline.1. Multi-planar set showing us first signs of both 'verses merging and various characters interacting with their counterparts.2. Jace-focused set fleshing out his plan, continuing the otherverse bs and showing us everyone preparing to rush his base of operation.3. Hexhaven-focus, Jace and his five armies vs Gaywatch and co. Ending may still be just Emrakul appearing out of nowhere like coolaid kid, devouring Jace's plan and disappearing because it's funny.
>>98691095If they didn't do all these fucking UB sets we could have blocks again.I can't wait to go back to New York again next year. I sure do love the hustle and bustle of the city.
>>98689279>I assume you have to play a second color for self mill?Didn't they jsut print a stitcher suplier variant?
All the uncommon legendaries is leaving a very sour taste in my mouth. It's like an in-universe UB, but at least theres a lot of other good cards. Just sucks know its a 7/10 that could've easily been a good planar chaos 2 instead of WAR 3.0
>>98691149It real is War of the Spark planeswalker set gain, isn't it?Except War had like 3 blocks of buildup.Imagin if they had Hour of Devastation lumped in the middle of War
>>98691142The Mahvel set is either gonna be Supernatural or Cosmic, we ain't going back to NYC
>>98691148The easiest way to get it in the grave.
>>98690990WoTC is the master of cool concept shitty execution. They always have some cool worldbuilding idea, concepts and/or creatures but they always end up fucking the execution by having retarded decision like adding some meme faction, toning down some idea or removing key concept to not offend people. First example that come to mind is new Capenna: the whole concept of the city once ruled by angels turning into a demon ruled criminal den inspired by mafia movies/film noir after an otherworld invasion wipe out most of the angels was a cool concept, but then they decided the world wouldn't have police and the whole thing fall appart because they removed a key concept of the whole genre.
>>98691171Too slow to spend a turn doing nothing
>>98691201It's easy to build up a board to summon it on the turn you play it.
>>98691171Anon, Lively fucking Dirge is available.
The best card in the set. Debate me.
I wonder if Darklight Phoenix will spawn some new Bazaar lists going back to Cabal Therapy. It's probably not worthwhile given how aerodynamic Dredge is already and Ichorid is mostly better without having to jump through additional hoops.
>>98691438The card from the set that will see the most play is the fucking 1 mana instant that makes a creature a 1/1 or a 4/5. As far as Samut goes, I'll take the red one any day.
>>98691448You have so many more haste enablers, than split second givers.
>>98691465Take it from someone who has been playing red aggro since 1999 - Samut is far and away the best enabler (ahead of Anger, even). The card looks innocuous but I promise it isn't. Every other enabler either costs too much mana, does nothing (is an enchantment or similar with no other effects) or relies on secondary riders (only affects creatures with counters, certain levels of power/toughness, etc). This is a 2 mana 2/2 with haste that gives everything haste, full stop.
>>98691447to me darklight is a bridgevine card, it's kinda like having extra copies of vengevine, the classic:>t1 supplier>t2 supplier + carrion feeder will easily put like 2 phoenix into play
Thought that was Teferi for a moment
>jace is dead because he had a funeral
>>98691652I hope he's dead. It would piss me off if WotC pussied out and transplanted him to the Edge instead.
>>98691648That's the last card and full official spoiler list should drop in about an hour and a half....this set is pretty meh.
>>98691704>...this set is pretty meh.Everyone is hailing this set as one of the best.
In one set we have>Jace builds a school>Jace builds an entire multiverse>Jace fucking dies>The girly version of Jace summons Emrakul to fix itThis is no brake full retard speed ahead level of writing.
>>98691736That's what you get when you need to compact the story into one set.
next UW set gonna be something like>Emrakul returns>dies in the first half of the story>suddenly New Phyrexia return>dies in the second half of the story>Ugin summons Bolas to fix the multi-multiverse
So why are we printing a ton of eldrazi cards that would be crazy in Modern in to standard? Some of these are too way too strong
>>98691725Sycophants tend to do that, yes. I'll grant that this set is better than MKM or DFT but that isn't exactly a high bar.
>>98691736Remember when the Phyrexian invasion started and ended in one set? This was always going to get rushed
>>98691798Counterpoint: Remember when the Phyrexian invasion was an entire block and all three sets are regarded as some of the best constructed and limited environments of all time?Of course you don't you weren't playing Magic back then.
Just annihilated another green faggot with this deck btw >>98688528He came out HEAVY and got me down to 6 life pretty quickly. But I got the configuration I was looking for of Vampire Nighthawk + Starscape Cleric on the board, he cycled for another five minutes during his turn boosting one of his green pieces of shit to over 10 power, but didn’t want to attack yet and let Nighthawk take it out. I put down Bloodthirsty Conqueror on my next turn, booped him once with Vampire Nighthawk and laughed and laughed and laughed
>>98691784I wonder how limited is gonna be with all this power down

>>98691784The only thing that seems to be universally criticized are the commander precons.
finally figured out what this set reminds me of, it's like the MTG equivalent of Vince Russo's car crash booking in late-stage WCW. Throwing a thousand things at the wall without giving a single one any time to breathe because you're too scared of people tuning out.

>Samut is known for thinking fast and moving faster. But when it comes to her role as de facto leader of the living in Naktamun, she works with Hapatra to ensure that speed never compromises the safety of the people. Samut spends much of her time overseeing the restoration of Naktamun's empty quarters and communing with the new gods of Amonkhet. While she is still seen as Hazoret's champion, she seeks to stand in the good graces of all the gods, hoping that they can build a new home for the living of Amonkhet together. Samut doesn't pretend to know the best path, but she does know that Amonkhet will only thrive if its people keep moving forward.>The tyrant of Naktamun, Samut is a cold and calculating wizard who rules over the living alongside the frozen god, the mightiest force on all of Amonkhet.>Samut intimidates her population, using fear to keep the populace docile and submissive. If the strength of the frozen god were not enough to frighten her people, they are aware of the magic that Samut herself wields. Samut can slow time to the point that it appears to freeze, giving her as long as she needs to keep a step ahead of her adversaries.>Although there have been attempts on Samut's life, she never worried that her reign might end until she met Hapatra. Hapatra's command over the hearts of Amonkhet's people is far deadlier than any threat Samut has faced before. She is all too aware of the seditious machinations of the undead monarchs and how they guide Hapatra against her.
>Tomik Vrona was born to be a lawmage. Raised by Orzhov advokists (who continued to raise him after their untimely deaths), he was comfortable with both spirits and laws from a very young age. It's no surprise that he shot through the ranks of the Orzhov Syndicate until he served as Teysa's second in command.>Tomik is known for his specialties in contract work, his use of gargoyles, and his incredible ability to forge diplomatic ties between the guilds. But none of these are as strong as his bond with Ral Zarek, his husband.>Having helped Ral rebuild the Izzet League after the Phyrexian Invasion, Tomik now solidifies his husband's return eagerly.>It's said that when Tomik was born, the Vrona household exploded into a shower of sparks. That's apocryphal—probably—but many Izzet do believe it. And for good reason: Tomik is about as talented as a sparkmage can be.>Tomik spent his childhood exploding his parents' experiments for fun. He ascended the ranks of the Izzet in a snap. Some say this is thanks to the machinations of his husband, Ral, a noted Orzhov advokist and propagandist—but both men strenuously deny the allegation.>Tomik hasn't seen his husband since Ral departed Ravnica on important business. Unfortunately, Ral is one of the only people who can mellow Tomik's considerable temper. The Izzet hope he returns before Tomik, in frustration, levels the guildhall.
Going into Reality Fracture, I was already like 9 out of 10. This was the set of the year I was most excited for. And now that I've seen the set, I actually like it even more than I was expecting. Like it has exceeded my expectations. There is so much nostalgia, so many cool callbacks, and even more importantly, just a ton of cards that I cannot wait to build around. So, I am really excited about all the cool decks that are going to come out of this set.

75 legendary creatures and 85 non legendaries. This is UB levels.>>98692643 The gimmick of two versions of the same character in the same booster is a mistake, in most cases the real universe version is an unremarkable card of the existing character in their regular color.Hard pass for me I won't even bother with singles.
>>98692500Razaketh subjugated all the gods of amonkhet and rules the plane now
>>98692755I honestly don't know why they bothered with "both versions in the same pack" nonsense.
>>98692755>75 legendary creatures and 85 non legendarieskek
What REAL colour shifts would you do?
>>98692741And I would say it's fine in little dose, planar chaos only had 11 legendary creatures and you didn't have the two versions in the same set so you really felt less like it was just opposite world. Also 5 of them were wedge legendary dragons that were inspired but not just mechanical opposite of the invasion dragon.
>>98692427Power rangers, 40k/destiny and mahvel
>>98692888Honestly I would have like some of the alternate version to not even been colour shifted. You have a planar chaos card that hint at an alternate universe were Urza and Mishra studied elemental magic instead of artifact. I would have like something like that for example a Saheeli that stayed UR but was an elementalist instead of an artificer.
>>98692984Magic is ment to be played in person among friends. This game is liquid diarrhea in any other instance

We can't even blame the 1 set thing when War of the Machine for exemple was set up by 2 or 3 sets beforehand and ended up having a retarded story all the same.>>98691798There was set up, we had compleated planeswalkers walking around, preators in other planes, small invasions happening, and then one big retarded bad written invasion that happened in one set and ended in the same set. >>98692643I wish they had made Chaos Planar 2.0 where the color shifted legendaries had arts similar to the card they were being "shifted" from. Like Braids, Crovax (Ascendant Evincar), Akroma, Mirri (actually being a reference to og black Crovax), and Jedit (probably reference to Darien, King of Kjeldor). There was no need to print a "main universe" counterpart in the same set. I agree that some look neat and are good but they are all missed design spaces.>>98692741The thing with planar chaos was that they printed only variants and didn't bother to print the original (except for Akroma) that those cards took a reference/inspiration. In this one they printed two of the same character and those were barely similar mechanic wise.Akroma, Braids and Crovax being the opposite of their previous version.Mirri having a vampire mechanic similar to 1st Crovax.Jeddit went from being a "individualist"(hero) card to being a lord. That was cool. Some cards from Echo Verse are references to their first cards. Thalia spirit, (Ghalta the Immovable), (Tetsuko Umezawa, Pursuer), (Yargle, Goliath of Otaria) are good exemple of good "Chaos Warped" card.
>>98695049There's foundations shit today. Reprints of old cards. Some cards have new art. Like pic related. Also Gisa. I'm not going to double check every card to see which ones have new art.
