I took the plunge and subscribed to chatgpt. I feel dirty for giving them my billing info but I came to face that I've been contradictory in my thoughts and stances and approach. At the same time I have believed for a long time that we are going to be butchered by AI very soon, and believe so now even more strongly than I did 5 years ago, and this belief has informed much of my adult life (first Ted Kaczinsky and later Lesswrong had a huge impact on me). But despite that, I'd have a problem with something as petty as giving them my billing info (because they've been sloppy with user data in the past)? Small scruples like that don't matter. Let's all have a bit of fun before we die - which would, of course, happen at some point in any case.

Most info about me is dispersed all over the place, but OpenAI seems like both a very attractive target to info harvesters (or to actors who just want to fuck them over, like maybe the chinese at some point) and provably sloppy.

And I can say - editing is a complete different beast if you use High mode (compared to the Instant mode that's forced in free ChatGPT)! Lots of iterative editing actually really works with High whereas I didn't feel it pans out with Instant (due to fuckery introduced at each step).
