Primarisissies... how do we respond?

These absolutely MOG my Primaris Intercessors and Incursors ;_;
>>
>>98694275
Anon you need a better fucking hobby.
>>
can't believe they released a new tac squad before the ban on the previous one even came into force

Man GW dropped the ball so fucking hard on these guys. Absolutely abhorrent interpretation of them. Only good thing is that they aren't Primaris.

lame, the fire is going to look like random shit jutting out of the models when 99% of painters attempt to paint it.

are these just intercessors?

I dunno maybe because they're the legion of the damned, chud? You wanted firstborn back so here's an entire army of muh heckin' marvel Ghostrider. Finally, a third reason to buy outriders besides ravenwing and white scars!
>>
>>98694275
Also, expect this to be the beginning of a new direction for the lore unfathomable depths beyond the retardation you were already expecting. It's already basically canon that the leader of the legion of the damned is the headless ghost of fucking Ferrus Manus. Mary Sue marines? How about marines that can't die because they died already.
>>
They don't seem very boney.

That's retarded memelore made up by fanboys with bad reading comprehension. It's not canon.
The LoTD were the Firehawks chapter from late M41, they have nothing to do with Ferrus from M30

First time I've considered buying a GW kit in almost a decade. These look fucking cool.

The flaming banner and some of the other parts are cool but it looks retarded on the armor.

A lot of legit complaints with this set, but Youtube tutorials have turned flame effects into a solved equation.

Odd it took GW so long to figure this out.
>>
>>98697124
>the whole point of the Alpha Legion is that they're indistinguishable from each other
Only during the Horus Heresy. In the Harrowmaster novel there's a meeting of multiple different AL warbands and each is a different depiction of Alpha Legion. There's a warband that still looks the same as Alpharius, so they do exist but they're minority by the 41st or 42nd millenium. Heck, there's even a warband thinking they're still loyal to the Emperor and everything they do is for the Imperium.

It's actually interesting how some nulore (like the fact that every AL looks alike) is accepted by the general and some isn't.
>>
>>98697544
It's kind of cool that they're painted to look like spines, though.
>>
>>98695156
This. Making them actually on fire confirms they are Imperial Daemons as opposed to a collection of survivors roaming the galaxy in search of desperate Imperials that they can save.

40k used to allow much more personal interpretations. You could put whatever spin you wanted on events, and were just given a loose setting that was intentionally always written from the biased perspective of in-setting characters that were always missing some of the information.

Previously you had 3 main options for Legion of the Damned:

Space Marines from thousands of years ago who were lost in the warp. Believed to be Firehawks, a cursed chapter, the change in colours implied that they had been through some horrors. Whether in the warp, or when vomited out of it potentially in the distant past or future before yet again being spat out in the present; their new aesthetic made us wonder what they had been through. This seemed the most likely, they weren't daemons, they were real flesh and blood marines that were extremely unlucky when it came to warp travel, though it often led to them saving Imperials who were otherwise doomed.

Then you had them being Imperial Daemons that are summoned by faith, which I guess is confirmed. Kind of ruins the Firehawks lore.

Finally there was the idea that theyre a decimated chapter limping through the galaxy without active communications and appearing by chance in random areas where they would do their utmost to help any Imperials they encountered. Their silence and disappearance after conflicts could be speculated as being due to them either being renegades that are truly loyal but who officially are seen as enemies of the Imperium, and so they just leave before they can be sanctioned; or potentially even suffering from a plague or some other affliction.

They were fun to speculate about. Nu-lore is so gay. It just completely goes against the old principles of creating a sandbox for players. It used to be a lot more like DnD.

>5th edition is "nulore" now
fucking fake grog posers
>>
>>98697820
There's no "3 options". That's just people not being aware of their lore.

Since 5th edition they're firmly stablished to be Firehawks that became "imperial daemons".
They're drawn to key battles where imperials are losing, they help them, and then they go back to the warp. And that's it.
>>
>>98697860
Yes. Yes it is. I played 3rd edition and everything after that is nulore.

I am strong believer in the fact that 3rd edition was the perfect balance of fleshing out the setting enough for it to be coherent and immersive in a way that it wasn't in the previous more satirical and less serious editions; while still maintaining enough mystery and intrigue to make it feel like a superstitious distant future where primarchs were regarded as semi-mythological figures of history like Hercules or Gilgamesh, and where we were playing in a new-dark-age, which perfectly fit the grim dark dystopia that the setting was supposed to be. Ever after 3rd edition they've gone too far with the fleshing out, and now rather than being brainwashed super-soldiers and unknowable legends from 10000 years ago; now the Space Marines are a bunch of retarded children and the Primarchs are a bunch of whiney man-children with daddy issues.
>>
>>98697860
I also started in 3rd and follow the honored tradition of everything before my starting point being outdated, and everything after being new drivel.
>>
>>98697820
You could still say that they are flesh and blood marines with anything from holograms to warp fuckery providing the flames, if you wanted to. But I agree that the trend of explaining everything instead of leaving some doors closed makes the world less interesting.
>>98697886
That IS the new lore retard. How many times do you need to be told.
>>
>>98698112
There's nothing "new" about lore from 20 years ago, you sperg.

It's the same story with the "oldCrons" retarded fake nostalgia that nobody ever cared about outside a few online wannabe hipters. No real Necron player/collector ever wished to turn the clock back to 3rd.
>>

I actually encountered one of the people who love this shit in the wild last year. A new local club was trying to get started and purported to have some decent terrain so I went to check it out, was playing a couple of games of 4th edition 40K with a mate there and this absolute fucking creature of a "man" comes over - literally a parody stereotype; short, fat, balding, granny specs, whispy fail-beard, metal-styled not actually a band but referencing some trashy TV show tee, the whole nine - and just bluntly butts in and asks us to our face why there aren't any black people in our armies, are we racist or something? I honestly didn't know how to respond, I started to laugh thinking it was a joke but the guy literally went puce with rage and stormed off muttering so I'm pretty sure he was sincere. Fucking mental.
>>
>>98697124
The funniest one for me is Necroniggas. It took less than 10,000 years for the brown swarthoids who emigrated to Northern Europe to evolve away what were at that point pointlessly high levels of melanin and become pale as fuck, and the context for that is just "long winters", but these dumb fucks are insisting there are sustainable genetic populations of legit fatty-lipped coal-black giganiggas living in the depths of a sunless artificially-lit hellcity on a world shrouded in perpetual twilight because of industrial smog? Fuck. Right. Off.

>>
>>98698127
Again, I'm not saying it's wrong to like the new lore, but LotD were originally something other than what was presented in 5th. So claiming that is the "actually they've always been" is as valid as female custodes, black Fenrisians, Necrons with feelings, etc. Paint and play with whatever toy soldiers you like, but if you claim the retcon look is what they've always been you will be told that it's wrong.
>>
>>98698219
Wrong. There was no real retcon, the LotD just slowly turned into warp beings both in the lore and IRL. Their previous lore wasn't removed, just contextualized.

Comparing that to femstodes or black SW is just disingenous.
>>
>>98697886

>>
>>98695964
They were released in 98, pretty sure they were referenced as spooky skeletons in 4th eds codex but I dont have that on hand, anyway they were definitely confirmed as being flaming spector marines in the deathwatch rpg, thats 2010, 12 years after release and 16 years from right now. This means that no they have not been portrayed this way.

They have been treated the way they are now for at the very least more than half their existence.

Sucking up the dei suppository is the millennial equivalent of boomers believing everything they see on television. It's possible to consider historical disparities and their causes with nuance, but that's not how universities brainwashed generations from the 90s to today. The demand for immediate parity or compensation is a product of complete resistance to compromise fostered by neurotic professors in academia whose highest offense isn't ignorance, but exposing a mistake made by them. Complete egotists.

>>
>>98700035
>Most factions were redesigned between the early RT release and 5th
Yeah, by the same writers who created them originally and just iterated/expanded on that and made some slight changes to the silliest early stuff that no longer fit.

Dude. That edition with all the minor books and the errata that were published in chapter approved via white dwarf that you were supposed to photocopy and glue into the books, the new experimental rules that you were supposed to give feedback back to Andy Chambers and the design team was actually one of the catalysts for the whole effort to streamline the game from 4th ed onwards - after he left. The game stagnated for a little and then got bloated, like a sinking ship with so many patches it got too heavy to float. The only thing 3rd really simplified was vehicles, because that was just a clusterfuck.

Yeah, because 2nd edition minis were dope and the colors punchy.
Say what you want, but these days it's kind of depressing how everything is trying to be serious and edgy and all the minis and tables just look brown and dirty.
Bright minis fighting on a bright green meadow between jungle trees were dope.
>>
>>98701479
It was more than that, the 2nd gameplay was engaging and fun in a way that was lost later. You also needed way smaller army sizes.
At the time I didn't appreciate the level of detail and the randomness, but it's hilarious that midhammer fags pretend their favourite 3-7th era didn't start with an extreme dumbing down of the game, along with bigger army sizes out of greed.
>>

All we can do is pretend they don't exist and don't respond to the manlets that mention those Legion of the Damned.
We can't say they're manlets. We can't say their scales are goofy. We can't really say anything. We can only suffer in silence.

But in all seriousness it is nice that these are coming back. Hopefully they'll be good "scale and proportion" reference for STL makers.

Have you any idea about how much of my self-worth is bound up in winning a miniature console war?

obsession + artistry
If you've ever worked for something you wanted, attained it, and enjoyed it, you eventually reach a point where the novelty wears off and even the accomplishment is unsatisfying. The contentment wears off and the next pursuit begins, because eventually getting what you want will make you happy.
That is their curse; nothing satisfies. They endlessly chase higher highs just to feel the same satisfaction they knew before. It all leads to mutilation when they can't feel anything anymore

IT MAKES ME SO FUCKING MAD
>When GW makes good looking minis and I want to buy them but like 80 dollars brah.
>>
>>98702969
Yeah I'd like to know too. I just bought the Exodite set after not having bought any minis in 15 years.
I got my first white dwarf and minis 32 years ago. Games Workshop knew how to pull my old ass back in with Exodites and Legion of the Damned.
>>
>>98702647
As cool as I think the new Legion minis look, this is a clear difference between those modern soft/clean/round looking computer made sculpts vs hand made, gritty, sharper and more detailed sculpts.
It was only Forge World that made proper sculpts until Games Workshop decided to fuck them up too.
I still want the new ones, but damn the new computer soft minis look, well fucking soft.
>>
>>98702647
>>98703105
Because the current GW trend is to imitate the plain 2nd ed style intead of the more ornate 4-5th minis.
That's also true for most new marine kits since 8th.
>>
>>98703135
true
same with new land speeder
they are nostalgiabaiting so hard
>>
>>98703135
Why do the old ones still look sharper and more sort of "crisp" to the eye than the new ones?
There's something off with the models they've made ever since they moved to doing them on computers.
Also the kits themselves are fucking dreadful to build. Especially now where you have stuff like a plasma gun, but then 1/4 of the barrel is a separate fucking piece on a different sprue. And the hands of the exodite dinos. Two of their fingers are separate fucking pieces instead of just one piece. It makes zero fucking sense and I actually find the building/hobby aspect insanely annoying. Building and converting used to be my favourite part of the hobby aspect too. It's painfully obvious how fucked up their sprues and parts are after building a couple of Gundam kits too.
>>98703138
It's working. It got me to start Kill Team after not touching anything mini related for 15 years. I'm even making 2nd edition green cactus with red toothpick terrain for my jungle themed orks vs exodites stuff.

They're not super far off from the 5th edition sculpts, the key difference is that the wicked sick flame decals were moved off the armour into sculpted ethereal flames and that's left a whole ton of plain black negative space behind. The 5th ones do have some extra non-flame embellishments here and there like the ribcage pauldron one guy is rocking, but I think if you simply erased the flame print from these they'd look pretty similar.

The sergeant's skull helmet is a major downgrade though, the modern obviously artificial angry face doesn't have anywhere near the same impact as an actual proper human skull (and in this case bonus points for making it ambiguous as to whether or not that's actually his bare uncovered head, given the guy with the broken helmet showing his skull underneath it).

the concept of "primaris" was a literary reason to explain a decade-long pipeline of slowly upscaling marines. Now that the range is mostly redesigned we are going to see the idea of "primaris" kind of disappear.

in retrospect, it was just GW giving lore reasons to explain why your models had two different scales despite both being space marines. They didn't want to break immersion.

Going forward it will be implies that new scale marines are primaris, but it probably isn't going to be listed and over time people will forget it ever happened to begin with.

Best Chaplain mini of all time
>>
>>98703540
>it was just GW giving lore reasons to explain why your models had two different scales despite both being space marines.
Probably more to do with the fact they were also restructuring the basic Space Marine army with a load of new specialised units. If it were just 'here is the new Tactical Squad, they're 5mm taller' or whatever, there wouldn't be any need for some fluff to explain why they're 5mm taller. But that wasn't how they approached it, instead it was
>These are Intercessors, which are like Tac Marines but not. And these are Infiltrators and Reivers, which are like Scouts but not. And these are Suppressors, etc.
>and you should buy all of these new models instead of just using your existing ones, because they're totally not the same thing.
>>
>>98703540
Should just have done a hard "they're now true scale" instead of all that other shite.
And made the new primaris helmet just a variant you'd get a couple of on a sprue to mix it up.
>>
>>98697913
There is this weird survivors bias where the only retards still playing are the ones who think different. You can see it in the replies, but you speak the truth anon.
>>
>>98703540
>the concept of "primaris" was a literary reason to explain a decade-long pipeline of slowly upscaling marines
lmao no it wasn't. The first and main priority of Primaris was to hard reset the marine range so they could resell an entire army to marinefags. The upscaling was just meant to sweeten the deal and make it harder for veterans to just substitute their old models as intercessors and ingressors and masturbatessors or whatever the fuck new Primaris line they came up with. The lore and immersion, as always, was a tertiary concern at best.
>>
>>98704257
Nah
Marines were getting new units casually without Primaris even
Primaris didn't force marinefags to update, not back then, not even now since you can still play with Firstborn

>>
>>98704272
Centurions were never meant to replace anything anon. With the Primaris reboot, GW was able to resell marines direct replacements to every single role in their army.
>even now since you can still play with Firstborn
They finally axed tacticals with the new edition. The great replacement is complete.

>somehow, they still dont get it right
Don't get me wrong, they look fine, but some of the poses reminds me of Primaris, which is probably foreshadowing for nu-firstborn coming back eventually

The flames don't fit really, it was painted on armor back then, and the lack of bone details or that one guy with this cracked open helmet and a skull underneath kinda makes it less cool than it could have been
Im not fully convinced on them, despite their really good look

An ork Nob is capable of ripping a fully armored space marine limb from limb with his bare hands and a Power Klaw is no less effective than a Power Fist.

It's like you fags forget that Humanity and the Imperium is losing and has been in decline since the DAOT. Even the HHslop and Great Crusade in 30k is still humanity in decline compared to their golden age, which literally happened before the Emperor even revealed himself to humanity and took the throne. Humanity's golden age was like 20,000 years ago. They've been in decline ever since. All the augmentations and fancy expensive toys given to space marines is merely to put them on a level playing field with the horrors of the galaxy at large including Orks and Tyranids who outnumber them a trillion to one.
>>
>>98704594
But then the ratio in the can is all off and there are way more white people in that can. Which I thought we were trying to get away from, over representing white people?
>>
>>98704495
>but some of the poses reminds me of Primaris
Probably because upscaled Firstborn and Primaris have basically the same proportions and there are only so many ways you can sculpt a Space Marine.
>>
>>98704257
The silliest thing is that Marinefags would probably have bought their entire army all over again if you replaced the Primaris release wave with truescaled versions of existing kits, they didn't need some half-arsed shitty nulore excuse for it.
>>
>>98704495
>>98704871

not enough skulls and bones on the armour. and you just know there's not enough cool weapon options in the box to convert some HQ options. the sculpted flames are shit too, sculted flame decals on their armour or flame transfers would be the superior option. i dont hate the concept of sculpted flames but the problem is they have tried to rip off what the stl merchants have already created for years eg. >>98697228 but gw was too cowardly to commit to it properly so they stuck a couple of little whisps of fire on and called it a day. as usual it's just completely mediocre and disappointing, the calling card of modern james workstein. imagine how underwhelming the modern grey knights will be.

>and the Primarchs are a bunch of whiney man-children with daddy issues.
This one makes a bit more sense when you realize they're not actual humans in origin, but basically Warp entities who were incarnated in superhuman bodies. How they process their emotions is vastly different from us. Imagine how a man would think and behave if you gave him the soul of Odin or whatever. Dude would be alien to us.
>>
>>98714884
Or more accurately they are what Psycho Warriors are. Practically instant adults with most of them not having the time to actuall grow up & mature naturally. Driven by an instinct to lead & conquer. Then forced into compliance to lead armies of copies of themselves calling them father across the galaxy to bring it under heel. That's tons of pressure. Then you combine their individual circumstances that already left them extremely traumatized & bitter.

>Space Wolves only recruit from one planet who are all Scandinavian
No they aren't, it's an entire planet. It has regions where there's more sunlight and therefore more melanin and regions where there are pasty white folk closer to the poles. It's a fucking planet. The entire equatorial belt is a volcanic island archipelago that would probably feel more polynesian than anything.

40k has very explicitly never been meant to have each subfaction represent ONE real world culture. They are all supposed to be weird gonzo fusions of multiple real-world cultures that never interacted to make them feel more exotic. That's why Dark Angels used to have a bunch of Native American influence mixed in with the Arthurian Knights stuff. Space Wolves were meant to be a fusion of ALL barbarian cultures, not just nordic/scandinavian, they were supposed to be saxons and germanic tribes and even pacific islanders.

Not that anon, but they are the remnants of the firehawks. The reason they appear and vanish again is because they are supernaturally deployed by the emperor himself where they are needed, then fade away again. They accomplish this via the imperial tarot. Their master reads the tarot, and they appear where they are needed most. Whether or not the remnants of their fleet are still warp capable is unknown, and how they deploy onto the battlefield is also unknown, but their actions are guided solely by reading the tarot. They are at once living space marines and supernatural entities.
