The kid starts crying if anyone uses interaction or removal against his cards, or if he loses. Never again am I going back to witness or take part in this. Only kitchen table with my bros at my house now. Everyone just has a good time and no one gets butthurt if someone wins or uses removal.

>>98695060>TQ: How did you deal with an uppity player in your pod that was just so wrong with his play/understanding of rules that it was laughable?I'm too much of a betaI once avoided playing my Ashling Flame Dancer deck because when I showed it to some guy I'd never played against before he kept telling me that it would be too crazy for the magecraft trigger to always give you draw and discard, and what it means is you only get that the first time it triggers. So fucking annoying. First of all it doesn't say "instead" or anything similar, and secondly, having played the deck dozens of times the draw discard is actually very fucking annoying when I only have 1 or 2 cards in hand so it isn't always upside. This was before the new Strixhaven which is a shame because I think Opus would have been a good comparator as more of those have "instead" than Magecraft
>>98696024Not at all my point. I'm saying if I wanted to play competitive magic I would play a real actual format that is suited for it with sideboards and bo3 instead of whatever commander is at this point.
>>98696024winning in CEDH is largely determined by seat position, it's an absolute joke of a "format"

>>98695976A four player singleton format. The entire concept says casual.
Can anyone explain how the Izzet guild is still called izzet if Niv Mizzet is now the leader of orzhov? I thought the point was he named his guild after himself?
>>98696042well it would in fact be crazy if this was magecraft draw discard (loot), that's why it's discard draw (rummage) instead
https://moxfield.com/decks/vSWgAY9y33iRVfcHWBAw5gSomeone help me not make a stupid Miku deck, because I clearly can't do shit while drunk. I THINK I'm heading in the right direction here, but I think I need more lands and draw (e.g. vaultborn, trouble in pairs, sylvan library, etc).
>>98696064Yeah yeah i said 2 words in the wrong order can we save the autism for the competitive table please?

>>98696099>i'm sorry life is so pathetic you need to "win" every casual game of monopoly to feel important.>said by a guy who plays a children's card game aged 13+ competitively 'cuz 60 1v1 makes it le based'
>>98696098well gee no wonder it sucked they were reinventing the wheelcompare that shit to>>98695427
>>98696086It can't, not as it currently exists. The seat position problem and the tendency for games to end in draws make it a failed competitive format.
>>98696086The problem is in a 1v1 format with both decks designed to minimize their own randomness, the deciding factor (at least in a best of 3) is who makes the fewest mistakes during the game.Bad luck can be a factor, but over 3 games if you have bad luck each time (or I guess worst case scenario just 2 games) then your deckbuilding was flawed. It's 1v1 so the only person who can be advantaged by a mistake is the 1 opponent. But in a best of 1 with players 1v1v1v1, turn order is a massive problem, but also the fact that some effects negatively impact some match ups more than others. When a player makes a mistake it may also unequally advantage other players at the table. Add to this that it's best of 1 and therefore not minimizing random chanceIt's a joke of a format and the only people who take it seriously are people who can't compete in 1v1s and want to feel like big fish in small ponds
Xth for goblins. And to a lesser point stop putting so much text on cards wotc
>>98696144I'm so fucking sick of seeing your posts
>>98696096Yeah and the world's greatest mtg player still loses to you, 40 year old 4chan anon if luck is on your side, your point?>but it's gambling!protip: tcgs get away with gambling because they do not recognize the secondary market
>>98696119>The seat position problempoker players 100% always want to play on the button instead of under the gun and yet it's still considered competitive>the tendency for games to end in drawssolved by flagging draws as losses, but people aren't ready for (and unwilling to have) that conversation
>>98696150>Yeah and the world's greatest mtg player still loses to you, 40 year old 4chan anon if luck is on your side, your point?Objectively not because he built a deck to be as consistent as possible. If he's as good as he's supposed to be then the randomness is minimal. In competitive Magic players are rarely ever losing because they bricked. Someone who has never played Magic before isn't winning a pro tournament- they're probably not even winning a single game, but someone who has never played poker before can and will win hands against "pros"
>>98696161>yet it's still considered competitiveAnd yet it's still considered gambling... huh.
>>98696132i never said competitive is 'playing for the honor of being crowned the best'all i'm saying is that edh can be played with a competitive mindset, 'to play to win despite having only a 25% chance of doing so', why is this wisdom so hard to grasp?
Gambling is fun and addicts don't deserve our compassion. The same way everyone understands that alcoholism is the alcoholic's fault, any "evils" associated with gambling are the degenerate addict's fault too.Fuck you and your pearls.
Plague Wind with upside if you play it on turn 2 or 3, this is going to be great
>>98696161Poker is considered "competitive" by gambling consortiums who want to promote gambling to the masses.

>>98696161>people aren't ready for (and unwilling to have) that conversationso it's a failed competitive format because the players refuse to actually fix the problems with it
>>98696177>all i'm saying is that edh can be played with a competitive mindsetAnything can be played with a competitive mindset if you're a big enough faggot. You could play competitive "guess the card" in a 52 card deck if you're good at card counting, it still doesn't mean that your wins are down to skill. There is a chance of calling the right card first try, and your chances of calling the right card go up the fewer cards are left in the deck if you're keeping track, but it's still fucking random chance.
>>98696177>only a 25% chance of doing soMore like 85% if you're in seat 1 or 2, 10% in seat 3, and 5% in seat 4
>>98696186Sure but sports gambling apps and prediction markers should be banned and their owners and operators given the death penalty.
>>98696200I genuinely don't know how you think this is a good argumentThe point being made to you is that poker is gambling because too much of it comes down to random chance, whereas Magic has so many features that mitigate random chance and ways for players to influence the game itself that make it a strategic game of skill. You saying>w-well there's randomness in opening packs because cards are worth money therefore the whole thing is gamblingis perhaps the single most retarded fucking thing I've ever heard. The secondary market has fucking nothing to do with how the game is played.
>>98696212>you're good at card counting? that's not skill, that's totally not why players get kicked out of blackjack for card counting? it's totally luck!i accept your concession

>>98696201ngl better overlay here than most real cards. I like how it goes over the frame yet under the text.
>>98696226Funny how I wasn't talking about blackjack and you had to try and make it about blackjack to support your own argument.By the way, blackjack? Still gambling bud, random chance. The only thing you can influence is how much you bet and that's what casinos kick you out for. You aren't actually playing the game any better, you're just spending your money better.

>>98695883Just when green is slowly catching up they drop this for blue.
>>98696224your inability to understand why tcg companies do not recognize the secondary market (that to wotc, rhystic study is the same value as basic lands) to avoid gambling accusations is painful, you're so stupid

It's a shame too because I was so ready to demolish you on that again
>>98696205and it will be a better competitive format when they finally do accept it, like how the JP cedh crowd already does
>>98696267Please, PUHLEEEEEEEASE explain to me how you think randomization of card packs helps you argue that playing the game itself is gambling. Please man I'm begging you, I need to hear this.
>>98696242That shit irritates me too, both in real cards and other people's proxies.
>>98696270blackjack is gambling, yesyou know what wouldn't be gambling though? anything wotc endorses (like say a b2/b3 event in a commander fest)you know who will win such events? that's right, people like me who play to wininb4 you seethe again about fags playing to win in children's card games lol
>>98696274please point to the post where i said edh is gambling
>>98696287Your wins come down to random chance in competitive commander because players can take game actions that unequally advantage/disadvantage other players around the table. There is no way around this. Turn order, deck matchups, the best of 1 format. You can accept this and be grateful when you win, or you can delude yourself and pretend you won by pure skill. Either way we all know you couldn't compete in 1v1 so you chose baby-mode
>>98696247>You need to stop doing something because I don't like it, and you MUST BECAUSE I SAID I DON'T LIKE IT!Also said by the mentally ill. You have a solution. use it or don't.

>>98696294Sure, right here. I said poker is gambling because due to random chance a player who has no idea what they're doing can beat a pro: >>98696096And you replied by saying some nobody could beat a pro in Magic if they got lucky (still not true by the way) and then started rambling that tcgs "get away with gambling" by not acknowledging the secondary market: >>98696150So I said poker is gambling for the reason stated by example, you then said that my example also applied to Magic, ergo (presumably) you are saying Magic is also gambling, because the next thing you say is that it's only NOT considered gambling because of some kind of loophole. How else did you want that to be read? And while we're here by the way. I know your knowledge of law only comes from TV so you think you have to physically pay an attorney a dollar to have privilege, and if you say "allegedly" in front of any statement you'll get off scot-free and whatever the fuck else, but I assure you no government in the fucking world lets companies themselves determine whether or not they provide gambling based on what the company publicly acknowledges to be true. Gambling in law has more to do with what governments choose to regulate. Regulators do not care that the contents of a pack of cards or randomized, nor do they care about mystery prize toys or arcade games. It's not because there's some magic trick to play the black letter of the law, it's because the law does not care to regulate those things.

>>98696460R&D has been moving in the opposite direction. Thoughtseize effects are getting weaker, not stronger. Their standard has moved up from 2 mana to 3 for an unconditional Thoughtseize, and the 2 mana ones are receiving restrictions on what they can take. I don't see that being very likely. It would be like expecting WotC to print Swords to Plowshares that exiles 3 creatures of your choice without targeting.

>>98696566I don't see it happening since it's the same idea of taking one of the strongest interaction pieces ever printed, then powercreeping it just for the sake of filling a perceived niche in a 4p format. That's a rather dangerous road to start treading and it's pretty clear WotC knows this when cards like Grasp of Fate and Soul Shatter sit pretty firmly at 3 mana which is a threshold that some boardwipes are at (e.g. Temporary Lockdown). You'd be looking at a card that's 4 mana at a minimum, likely 5 just as a tax to discourage people from slotting it without a strong plan behind it and wasting tons of time deciding what to take (since I think we can both agree the average EDH player has intelligence lower than a cabbage). At that point you can just run some stupid Thought Distortion or Wit's End combo.

>>98696628Holy fuck you can't actually be this stupid. You said that cards magically become gambling if a company acknowledges the secondary market. MLB acknowledged the secondary market in that case but it still wasn't classified as gambling. Your theory is immediately disprovenThe reason it is not gambling is because the way the law treats it is literally as buying cardboard. The company has cardboard to sell, you buy it.In gambling you do not purchase something for value, you put money up for the chance to win money or money equivalent. Because you are literally buying cardboard in the eyes of the law, you are getting more than simply the chance to obtain value. Even if the cardboard you get isn't worth shit, you still own carboard instead of nothing. The company's acknowledgement of the secondary market value of that cardboard is irrelevant unless they hold out that you WILL get cardboard of a specific monetary value when in fact you may not. That is as simple as I can make this fucking case for you.

Made a bunch of last-minute tweaks that aren't reflected in this list. Traded for an Urza that gave the deck a pretty notable power boost, all that said I didn't get to play much.A late start and game 1 was exceptionally poor. An uncontested turn 1 Sol Ring from a Hakbal player led to him snowballing. Punted a few things in my attempts at dealing with his merfolk, and rather than let me swing in so I could trigger cipher off Stolen Identity to get the mana to improvise a Cyclonic Rift vs. the deterministic lethal on the Hakbal player's board, the naya elfball player decided to greed and chump blocked. So before passing I 2-mana Cyc-rifted his Chulane to hand and we all died. The deck gets a bit more engine-y than I would like, and the Descendants' Fury stuff might eat a cut despite being cute.

The distinction between packs of cards and gambling is that with cards you are purchasing game pieces and wiih gambling you are purchasing only the opportunity to win money or a priize. It does not fucking matter that the cards are randomized, it does not fucking matter that the cards have different values on the secondary market, and it does not fucking matter whether the company behind it acknowledges values on the secondary marketAll. that. fucking. matters. is whether you bought cardboard or not. Is there a good alternative to using dice for counters? Currently running a prolif deck and tend to make a shitton of them and move them around, so constantly manipulating dice to find the exact next number tends to be annoying and time-consuming and if someone bumps the table or something it's a whole mess of shit trying to get everything back togetherI've seen life counter gizmos that have two spinnable digit wheels on them and those would do the trick but they're too bulky to haul a dozen of them around for every game.

>>98699058>arent anything too crazy like the new Ashling preconWhat do you think was crazy about the Ashling precon??? They completely cheaped out on the lands and didn't even include no-brainer tribal staples. Ashling is the objective best elemental commander and I still never see anyone playing her. Hell I have the fucking precon and I played it precisely once after trying to upgrade it.What I'm saying about these monocolor precons is that even for budget there's just some strange choices. Artifacts can actually run pretty cheap because often they're not good unless you're going all in on the card type and can then cast them for free. But there's some includes in there that are just not worth playing, which is odd when they could have put a 10 cent rare in its place
>>98699080Fair enough, ive seen the Ashling precon absolutely go bonkers mutiple times in my playgroup though, including when i play it. I do see your point though anon, id like to give the zombie one a go because it looks competent for the most part. They have a habit of putting in cards in decks that defentally has you questioning why, like the Sphinx in jaces new deck
>>98697974they re-whitened her
>>98697266nope they already consider BlasAct+Repurcussions a two card combo and bracket 4 only.
>>98699108>like the Sphinx in jaces new deckThat one's pretty easy though. It's basically the original Etali except it has wings and fur. Not very hard to figure out, it's a good and fun effect on a big beater.
>>98698305this is one of the craziest cards in a few years. hitting platinum angel with this is hilarious
>>98698266nah i think we should just yank seat one's balls more by making them skip first draw.your idea is silly. seat one just punches seat four in the face to get the draw for themselves, you're literally making seat one even better.
>>98699108>They have a habit of putting in cards in decks that defentally has you questioning why, like the Sphinx in jaces new deckWell in that one it's more understandable because the truth of it is that they wanted to colorshift a few more characters than they had space for in the main set.The real question with that one is what idiot talked the design team into making so many of them 6CMC. It makes it feel like more of a win when you cheat it into play, but goddamn some of them are really not 6 mana worth of stats and effects. Jhoira and Tamiyo in particular are overcosted. But yeah the simple answer is they wanted to print a bunch of new commanders but only had 1 precon to do it in
>>98699137It synergizes with sphinxes when there are no other sphinxes in the deck AND has an eminence effect.
>>98699206It's a 10/10 flier that shits out value without any other sphinxes unless you get supremely unlucky. I don't understand what your problem with it is. Do you just have tribalbrain?
>>98699251This shit has to be bait. Here's a question. You can take any 1 creature spell out of the precon and replace it with Edgar Markov, do you do it?
>>98699259Profoundly retarded comparison. Thanks for answering the question though, tribalbrain.
>>98699275>erm it's fine to have the sphinx tribal commander in the precon but no I would not trade any of the worst creatures in the deck for the vampire tribal commanderThanks for proving the point, retard. An eminence commander does not belong in the 99 of another deck.
>>98699355>hurr durr the ur dragon would somehow not be a good sneak attack payoff because it's a dragon in the 99 of another deckThis is how you sound.
>>98699479How many eminence commaders do you run in the 99 of your other decks anon? I'd love to know. It's more than 0, right?
>>98698558>>98698590>>98698787which of the decks caan be properly upgraded?
>>98699526All of them??? All decks can have cards taken out and replaced with better cards anon, what the fuck are you asking?
>>98696696Couldn't help retooling the deck now that I've seen it in action. The ramp package has somehow dwindled into even more deranged territory, but with the baseline curve of living weapons so low it feels weird taking an early turn playing a rock vs. playing a living weapon.Something about the deck is still nagging me structurally, but I'll see after I get a few more games in next week. I'm much happier with this version.
>no reality fracture yawgmoth, urza, gerrard or ixidor or mirari
>>98699667Here's your Mirari bro.
>>98697902I think there's a simpler explanation>UB has established characters that force top-down designs more consistently>UW is flooded with safe bottom-up designs that don't do anything new because it's easier to make
>>98699667>Make universe with no Bolas>Ugin MIA>Make universe with no Phyrexians>Urza and Mishra MIA
>>98699556thoughts on this for the same sort of strat?
>>98699745Ehh, I mean he will let you run every living weapon in one place. But then the rest of your deck is just a colorless equipment heap? I'm not too big a fan, especially when he's six mana to get out.I vastly prefer the novelty of commander + strategy and going from there. Dalakos and living weapons has a synergy in that he hastes the equipped creatures. But what you do from there is sort of up to you as a brewer. The polymorph subtheme isn't necessary; you could easily just go all-in on flying haste aggro. I'm sure there are other novel living weapon commanders, though I've sorta latched onto Dalakos. If only because he's like 1500th place on EDHrec.
>>98699667I just wanted my rakdos faeries man
>>98699800yes ok cool but consider
>>98699859Honestly a based card, though good luck finding a commander who capitalizes on it AND lets you run more living weapon synergies. Cloud is close. The fact that he draws you a card for each attacking equipped creature is relevant, though he only makes it a 5/5 which isn't very interesting.Jinnie Fay also makes living weapons work. As does Sephiroth, Fallen Hero. Even this fucking thing has some synergy. Not that any of these help you run Tangleweave Armor.
>>98699889OH, there's this guy. He would make it a 10/10 and he has blatant artifact synergy. But of course that synergy is ETB: draw card and he's a 5 color pile, making the deck unbelievably slop.
>>98699667>No color swapped goblins.>No goblins at al other than some crummy prepared creaturesC'est la vie. Maybe because Jace didn't know the really old story guard, so he didn't think to remake them, or some other lazy excuse
>>98699667did they touch anybody from the weatherlight saga in this? (besides karn)

>>98700094Mtgsalvation of course.
>>98700094You don't. This game is meant to be mindlessly consumed. If you think about it for long enough you start realizing that many issues could be fixed, but won't be because the playerbase is too retarded to accept a fix.
