Just tested 3 colours.

GW did it again. Best paints on the market. Like contrast, now all the third world brands will try to copy them.

The DEI Team did a great work. Also the DIVERSE GROUP OF PAINTERS that joined the Warhammer World test of the paints.
>>
>>98699292
Shit-talking third world countries?
Not very inclusive of you.
>>
>>98699292
I don't like GW forcing blacks and women into every unit regardless of how little sense it makes either, but sperging out about gw inviting a black guy to a promo event is embarassing. He won gold in the diorama category at the 2026 miniature painting open, btw
>>
>>98699292
How likely are these paints going to truly be an innovation other than the "modified triad" system GW is doing?
I remember when contrast paints came out and everyone went nuts with how they worked. Then other paint companies followed like ArmyPainter and Vallejo. AK even made their own line.

I do fear it making other companies reformulate their paints as Vallejo supposedly had bubbling problems when their paints came out. That was years ago so hopefully it is fixed. I'm gonna test their metallics from their mecha and game line, and true metallics line.
>>
>>98699292
Why can't you just buy like 6 colours and mix on a palette?
>>
>>98701653
Too hard for the 40k fanbase in 2016 apparently.
>>
>>98701653
Consistency when you're painting an entire army, with a view to adding more units to that army over the years
>>
>>98701653
Miniature paints are how they are because
1. it makes paint recipes easier to make and follow
2. having the color you want available immediately has a convenience factor
3. like >>98701701 said, you get a more consistent result
4. you buy more product to achieve the first three
You can mix everything yourself if that's your jam.
>>
>>98701653
I want consistency. Paint mixes don't do that when I want uniform consistency. Though paint mixing is a very important thing. I need to get into the habit of doing that.
>>
>>98701701
>>98702900
I honestly think you're underestimating yourself.
>>
>>98702936
No.98702900 here.
I think you're right. I do remember that paint mixing is a huge thing that I need to get good at. I already mix armypainter washes with their speedpaint medium. Creates a nice shading effect of minimal toning but the shading around details are still there.
I keep it 50/50.
I need to learn to glaze paints.
I will confess that I need to learn to mix acrylic paints more than they get mixed in Privateer Press Formula P3 paint tutorials.
But I'll never mix paints with paint pot paints. Only droppers because accidentally putting a paint in a pot instead of using the clean brush could mean ruining the pot's contents with pigments that are very strong.
I'll mix with droppers. Most of my paints are droppers anyways.

As odd as it is I think I've had the hardest times mixing metallic acrylics as weird as it sounds. Maybe I just don't notice the subtle differences.
>>
The five colour range thing is a marketing gimmick that's marginally useful.
The real draw of these paints is their smoothness, pigment load, and opacity. All of which are exceptional.
I'll be stocking up on the new white, at the very least.
>>
>>98702964
This all hinges on whether the white paint and yellow paint are actually good after the real reviewers come in.
It is hard to tell which reviewers are legitimate and which aren't.
I do hope that GW is somehow pushing acrylic paint development leading to improvement.
I think Vallejo is also doing that too, but I'm not sure.
>>
>>98702936
You misunderstand; it's not about ability, it's about convenience. Sure, you could mix the colours for yourself, maybe take some notes so you have a rough idea of where to start each time. Or you could just cough up the extra cash and go straight into painting with the same pre-mixed colours every session. Not incapable, just lazy

1) GW wants to appeal to retards who use paint right out of the pots.

2) The paint pots drying out long before you use up the paint is part of their sales strategy.

Call it.

>>98699292
What is this and why should it use it over Vallejo/Army Painter/Reaper Paints?
>>
>>98703754
Its a marketing ad teasing GW's new line of Warhammer paints.
They're supposed to be better and hopefully nontoxic acrylics. I think GW is hopping on the "triad trend" vallejo and armypainter followed. Not sure if Reaper is doing that. Duncan's Two Thin Coats also organized paints in triads.
The Warhammer paints are teasing easy yellow and white paints so I'm watching and cautiously optimistic in case it isn't true.
But the autism in me forbids me to use paints that come in GW pots with little exception.
Are Tamiya/Mr. Hobby pots superior pots to GW's paint pots?
>>
>>98703962
>Not sure if Reaper is doing that
I use their triads for skin tones. Been doing that for years.
As for pots, none will ever beat the P3 pots in my mind.
>>
>>98703962
>Not sure if Reaper is doing that
Weirdly, Reaper used to have their main Master Series paint set up as triads, but they're reformulating the whole line this year and seem to be dropping triads in favour of just having odd colours
>>
>>98703962
>The Warhammer paints are teasing easy yellow and white paints
Army painter did the exact same thing with their fanatic paints, posting videos of how easily they brushed over black undercoats just like GW did with these paints - but as an (otherwise) avid fanatic user I can safely say their yellow covers like shite over dark, or even midtone, undercoats.
>>
>>98704102
>As for pots, none will ever beat the P3 pots in my mind
Coat D'arms still uses those pots for nostalgia reasons I believe.
Those pots are leagues better than what GW is using at the moment. And I think they make for great convenient handles with their textured tops and some tack and are probably easier to clean gummy buildup in the back and positioning upside down so the primary pigments "return" to the top where they should be too.

>>98705236
Yes. The Foundry Paint System as they call it is built around triads.
This makes me think triads are even older.

Yeah, I tend to just tint anything metallic with something transparent over the top instead. Alcohol based inks will let the metallic shine through while strongly colouring it, in my experience.

who has the best matt white?
>>
>>98702936
I once spent two months trying to perfect the exact shade of ghostly grey I wanted for the primary armour colour of my Titan Legio, I had to keep making adjustments after test paints because the colour appeared a little different when set against the secondary colours, trim, heraldry and so on. I finally arrived at a "chromatic grey" that looked *perfect* in every light I tried it under, next to any kind of terrain, flawless - it also used seven colours plus two additives and could only be lightened or darkened with other custom-made off-white and chromatic black mixes or it would stop looking correct.

Or, I could buy three layer paints, make two simple intermediate mixes, and get 95% of the way to that perfect result for a fraction of the time and effort, with zero risk that I might lose the written recipe and be fucked trying to add anything new to the force.

Like >>98701793 says, it's about convenience. I'm painting an army to play wargames with, not trying to show off to the Old Master I'm apprenticed to in fucking Renaissance Italy.

>or
>Buy 3 bottles from any other manufacturer, get 3 shades of one colour, create 2 more shades by making 1:1 mixes from your 3 existing shades, which you can do easily and repeatedly because you bought *dropper bottles*

I know which I'll stick with thanks geedubs
>>
>>98699292
I'm over buying paints that have such tenuous IP-related names that they make me feel like I'm buying a themed meal at Disneyland like one of those Disney adults
>Lustria Green
>Mos Eisley Cantina Coffee
>Shelaxi Purple
>Jessie's Rootin Tootin Roast Beef

Also I can't believe "Green Morkshroom" and "Blue Gorkshroom" got all the way through multiple approvals and made it to production
>>
>>98704894
Reaper too
>>
Tested yellow, magenta, red, teal and white (my cousin works at a GW store).

These paints are insane. Im dead serious, they are going to murder the rest of the “new gen paint” brands.

They cover black with 1 brush stroke, ALL OF THEM, ANY TONE OF THE HUE no marks, smooth as hell, semi satin eggshell lovely finish (not shitty ultramatt granular finish), vibrant as fucking hell (not shitty pastel ultra white pigmented Army Painter paints).

I don’t know what the hell they did here, but it fucking worked. And I own Vallejo, AK, GSW, AP, PA, Reaper, P3 and Ionic.

These fucking pots mog them all. It’s insane. If all the range behaves like the 5 tones I tested, I will just keep Vallejo/AK for more “historical” realistic tones.

Let’s face it, most of you, like me, are from shitty for god enough mediocre painters. These ones make you a good painter almost instantly.

I hate to admit it: good fucking job James Workshop.
>>
>>98704768
No, because these ones cover better being much more vibrant and no fucking pastel like army painter.
>>
>>98711362
tbf GW/Citidel is not the only company that does this Army Painter, AK, Two-Thin Coats(which is just made by a former GW guy), and P3 all have kinda silly names to an extent though I think Citadel goes further than the rest
>>
>>98713638
True, but they're generic fantasy paint names, which I think is kinda fun and has a long history in the world of fantasy hobbying. Feels a lot less cringy and consoomery than buying a paint called "blackstone void" which is actually a plain white paint with a (misleading) name from their IP shoehorned in there, or any one of a number of the other paints whose name is a reference to some obscure model or place or named character from AoS or 40k.
>>
>>98713454
>They cover black with 1 brush stroke, ALL OF THEM, ANY TONE OF THE HUE no marks, smooth as hell
I watched warhipster on livestream yesterday apply 2 coats of the green and then give up trying to get an even coverage because he 'needed to move on with the stream'
>>
>>98713454
>These ones make you a good painter almost instantly.
this was a decent bait up to this point but you blew it
>>
>>98713454
>They cover black with 1 brush stroke
I never really understood why people paint over black to be honest.
>>
>>98713697
Isn't it just a historic thing, like if you started the hobby in the early 2000s, the main primer sprays were all Black
>>
>>98713682
>warhipster
why would they even give him these paints, his entire shtick is being a contrastfag
>>
>>98713454
Post paint collection with timestamp and NTMA.
>>
>>98713737
Probably so that not every person they got was a Golden Demon winner or a pro painter but had a more casual audience
>>
>>98713737
I assume that's why, "look, even contrastfags can paint with these paints, now go buy some". Contrast isn't my thing but I have to respect he films quality tutorials, he puts out 8-10 a month, and they pull 10-15k views each. Smart move by GW imo.
>>
>>98699292
Pro acryl just responded to triads.
I like triads and this one got me. It got me good. I need to learn to mix paints. But I’ll probably keep it 50/50 drop mixes as always.
>>
>>98713454
Good one gw intern but you need to have a pic to be more authentic. See >>98713777 and do what he commands if you’re not a shitposter.
>>
I'm just waiting for tales of painter on youtube to do a review, or test it myself if my lgs got a demo. If it's good I'll take all the white to dark grey range, if it's incredible I'll go all in.
>>
>>98714593

Pro are shitty paints. Shitt comsistency, shit finish (ultramatt paint is lowest vrade quality paints), shit colour system, shit bottles (worst than pots kek).

But they spam the internet saying is goos. Like army painter does. Vallejo/AK/IONIC mog pro acryl in every aspect.
>>
>>98701653
Because I’m not going to measure out my mix every time I need to base a different unit. I’ll buy the exact colors i need and if I need to make a mix for some detail that will probably be the only time I need that mix and I’ll let it dry. If I need to make it again I pray I remember what I used. Also fuck me if I’m trying to mix up metal shavings to make a metallic paint.

Also, as the other guy said. I’m painting them kinda nice so they don’t look like shit on the table. Not trying to perfect my art skills to rival Michelangelo or something.
>>
>>98701653
Mixing is for niggers.

Painting miniatures it’s not fine art.
>>
>>98699292
so what are these paints for anyway? are they basepaints?
>>
>>98716396
Brand loyalty is for faggots, they all have good and bad colors. But you're clearly retarded if you think you can get a better white paint than the pro acryl one
>>
>>98703962
>Are Tamiya/Mr. Hobby pots superior pots to GW's paint pots?
they're worse, screw tops are the absolute worst kind of lid. inevitably they eventually either glue themselves shut (and forcing them open can crack or deform the lid) or fail to seal and dry out.

GW pots are at least fine if you're just moderately careful not to get paint on the hinge.
>>
>>98713697
its not just about priming, covering black is the hardest to cover so it serves as a benchmark.

It also comes up when you make corrections, where you're potentially trying to go over areas you might have applied heavy shading or dark colours too.

>>
>>98716510
I had to look it up. Apparently they're just really really good one coat paints? Apparently especially for problem colors like yellow and white. I don't know if there's something more to them.
>>
>>98716502
>t.paintlet or a gw shill
>>
>>98716581
>brand loyalty
I felt that one. Most of my paints are Ak and even their acrylic washes and contrast paints are Ak. I think their 3rd gen acrylic metallics are where they fell off a bit which is why I have armypainter and some Vallejo metals. I heard of the bubbling of Vallejo so I’m cautious. Mecha color’s gunmetal is a great looking dark metal grey but not too dark that washes will have no effect. I hope the problem was fixed or didn’t effect metallics.
>>
>>98716723
Pro acryl metals are pretty bad, the light silver has a weird baby blue sheen making it difficult to use, maybe I'll try it on some high elfs. The vallejo airbrush metals are very nice, they have really low surface tension and the first time I overloaded my paintbrush it followed every crevices on the mini kek.
>>
>>98713454
>yellow over black
>one coat
LoL get better bait you fucking retard.
>>
>>98713697
I think these days it's just for easy shading. I saw someone prime the whole thing black and then prime grey or white from top-down
>>
I've decided I prefer using fewer paints, actually.
>>
>>98716706
i mean, hey- thats convenient at the very least. contrast paints were a novel concept, im sure they serve their purpose. i might give one or two a try. maybe i'll use that as an excuse to get into painting some blood angels
>>
>>98714593
Triads are fine, but the main reason they don’t sell em and are making fun of them is that they’re not universal. Depending on the material or the environmental lighting in the setting of your model, the colors would transition differently. They talk about this a lot on the Monument Hobbies streams when the topic of environmental lighting comes up.
