So after looking around a bit it seems like the biggest problem have with the new dorfs (aside from the awful guns) is that their armour just looks weird, almost like a cross of kharadron and 40k stuff with pyjamas underneath.
One of the little characters on the landboat has an interesting elevated version of the basic design which I really like. Ever so slightly more ornate, more fitting shapes, and especially the little bit of pelt which helps a lot in making it feel less "flak-armour". What do you guys think? Imo this is really just a straight upgrade on the normal clangunner/clanshield armour and would take them from a 4 to a 7 basically instantly.
Also I know I keep harping on about this but holy shit just give the female dorfs braids. Look how much better this lass looks compared to the braidless thryng behind her, let alone the awful faces in the clangunners and clanshields.

Nothing was "stuck" in the pipeline, the writing has been on the wall since they launched 4e and squatted all the whfb shit from the game to replace new models with and free them up for TOW reprints, as well as removing sacrosanct. The upcoming rebrand aping The Old World in name is pretty clear that they're trying to realign it with traditional fantasy.

For everyone that didn't get a pity hero, if they got a big wave release it was some bullshit focused on refreshing models that have strong whfb ties or a riff on an existing concept. Gitmob, Ogors, Soulblight, Maggotkin, CoS Helsmith and now Khalazid Holds played that shit pretty close to the heart, they're not really new concepts, not a single one feels like something that would have been released in 2e.

For the new factions that did get multiple things IDK got a rebranded incarnate that was from scrapped thondia plans and KO got a scrapped warcry warband. CoS killed off the remaining mixed races ideas and is basically is the IG or Empire in AoS now. The endless spells & terrain that came out has likely been designed since malign portents but then they stopped adding them for certain factions like seraphon and helsmiths because why ???.

There's a reason there's not many LRL or KB rumors and that's because they likely put the releases for them on hold until they figure out the future plans for the faction's aesthetics. Would not be surprised if they abandon the idea of stormcast chambers and LRL temples in their next tomes.

Profoundly retarded reasoning. Yeah no shit most of the releases we had focused on adding stuff to existing factions instead of creating new ones; that's the way things have been since 3rd edition. It's imo no coincidence that we got our first new tome in like half a decade only after losing another one in beasts. The 3 year cycle can't really sustain more than ~24 tomes for AoS. This has nothing to do with realigning the game to fantasy or keeping things on hold for 5th edition or whatever, it's simply the way things have been going for the past 5 years. 1st and 2nd was them shitting out new armies every other release, 3rd and 4th is them consolidating those. Unless you're idoneth in which case fuck you.
Also you're just kinda wrong too? The nurgle wave was a significant shift in aesthetic, one away from the whfb one at that. Also there's a lot you can say about helsmiths but "played that shit pretty close to the heart" ain't one of them
>would not be surprised if they abandon the idea of LRL temples next edition
Lmao how the fuck would that even work? Stormcast sure, the chamber shit is kind of tacked on anyway but the temples are a core part of lumineth both in terms of lore, gameplay, and aesthetics. You're just saying shit to say shit.

Good chances of it, if it was exclusively a female model it would have had a shaped breastsplate.

But also what's the point of having a character on a throne if it's not sitting on that throne?
Valankrom looks generic enough anyway, also easy to cut off the crown and slap your own topper on it.

It’s magical ammo or some shit on the stream that can be smithed into different types. So yeah they were lazy about it.

The hexagonal stone bits? They wouldn't seal in a "right sized" barrel anyway, so even ignoring the enchanter standing there and doing glowy stuff to the ammo there's clearly magic involved.

A pair of considerations:
>the gholems being this small, and only being for gazul and valaya, leave the room for a way larger version meant for grugni and maybe grimnir, and if grimnir is a version of that construct then fyreslayers may stay part of this book long term or get that as a regiment of renown

Racism is a modern concept, previously humanity was divided by religion chiefly. There are plenty of instances of crusaders getting along with Arab Christians, of African Christians being embraced by England, etc.
There are black saints, black Turkish Arthurian Knights, etc.
It's anachronistic to project modern racism onto a at most 15th century world, one which includes living gods who have created races not together but in isolation.
You're an uneducated amerimut. Read a book.
>b-b-but I would be racist in that world! I know I would, it's my whole personality!

no amount of upgrade sprues will be enough or practical to change the posing of the body, and that's the main part that will make them look alike on the table, otherwise they're in a good enough neutral pose for 2 or 3 of them to be on one table with little issues, but being neutral makes them poor centerpieces, so I'd say the ideal solution is having a completely separate kit for some more special characters on a differently posed and maybe older looking magmadroth so you can have 5 or 6 in total between the first ones and the latter ones with little to no problems.

I can imagine one coiled around a volcanic outcrop, a bit like in pic related, ridden by either bael grimnir, his daughter, or a generic option meant to represent one of his other sons or some other hold's champion, with the droth itself having at most a choice of head+neck to make it look to the left or to the right (so the miniature will look very different because the whole model will be turned and seen from a different angle)
make these ancient magmadroths a bit fatter and with longer quills crests and reptilian whiskers and slayers would be set for a long time in the droth department, I say
>>
>>98702955
>no amount of upgrade sprues will be enough or practical to change the posing of the body
Tail, legs, necks, heads are all separate retard. They are a tiny part of the sprue, another would give options to alter the pose entirely

Retarded pop culture-level understanding of history

The Romans literally called black people Aethiops, meaning 'burnt face'. One emperor saw a black dude for the first time and thought it was an omen of his death

People absolutely categorised others by race and lineage, it was just that they hadn't travelled around quite so much as to make a comprehensive catalogue
>>
>>98702941
You are entirely wrong and retarded. Racism extends all the way back to the time of the ancient Greeks and even before. To claim that it didn’t exist just because some wholesome niggos were accepted here and there or because people weren’t constantly at each others throats over it is the kind of thing that shows you need to take your own advice. Your own premise is so retarded on its face it’s hard to even take seriously. I have to assume you’re trolling because holy shit there cannot be someone as retarded as you still breathing.

It's a shame AoS didn't get an RPG but I suppose cubicle 7 have the rights. You could actually sell the setting with something like that. No one gives a shit about an unofficial RPG, but a new official product with minis would work most of all because d&d guys would want the minis.

the bait is particularly low effort tonight I must say
>>
>>98702965
Since they've shown it during this reveal stream it means that it's coming out before the next reveal show, which is probably the new year one.
Rumormongers say dwarfs would come out first, but it's questionable whether they mean the army set or the full release wave.
The ogres reveal in the big summer preview came at the end of june.
The ogres army box came 3-4 weeks later.
The rest of the ogres came out roughly another month after that.
Giants after another month, shortly before the following reveal stream.

So we're looking at dwarfs coming out in october, the rest in november, lizards in december, unless the fact they've shown lizards now instead of some later monday reveal means they're coming out very soon before dwarfs, and the dwarf releases are instead postponed to attract christmas-time purchases.
>>
>>98702981
But soulbound is a thing and the miniatures already exist?
>>
>>98701186
Very strange that AoS has some truly inspired factions like Kharadron overlords and Ossiarch bone reapers, and then there's by the numbers guys like the new dwarves. I mean imagine the opportunities of a faction that has spent thousands of years sealed in their hold. Something truly strange should emerge! One idea I for example came up with would be that they hybridized with olms so instead of beards they'd have the olm ear things growing in their chin.
>>
>>98703005
Or the lizard and the dwarf box are coming close to one another, regardless of the later full dwarf wave, after all lizards are a small release and I doubt there's much overlap between customers for these two factions.
>>
I wonder what the demographics of this place looks like for the activity to always see a boost around this time

I get that they're trimming down the Fyreslayers bloated roster of foot heroes a little given that they don't have to hold up a whole army anymore, but it's funny that they're still gonna have way more heroes than the Khazalites for a while. The new Dwarfs have, what? Two generic foot heroes, one foot special character, and the throne? I guess they just wanted to bring Fyreslayers down to only having twice as many characters instead of 3x.
>>
>>98703364
Atleast they have some stat sheets and rules they can kit bash count as models and convert. Most factions don’t get that

Oh Khazlite Holds in general is an easy proxy fest. Run Vulkites as Clanshields, run Dispossessed as Clanshields or Valayan Guard, run Thunderers or Thunderers (KO) or Irondrakes as Clangunners, run your Grimwrath as a Thayne, Run the Runemaster or Runesmith as the new wizard guy, etc etc. Dwarfs are so interchangeable in general, and with armies of renown you can chuck KO into the mix easily, so the options are endless.

I think the most interesting option is that grimnir and vulcatrix come out merged into a single entity like you can see implied in some of the statues here. Maybe a little bit more interesting than just a droth-minotaur thing though.
Sidenote but fyreslayers have always had kino as fuck art (and lore) despite being fucked over hard in the range department. Especially when it comes to magmaholds, I love the sheer enormity. Reminds me of some of the old whfb castle depictions which were also gargantuan.

They found that the spawn were strangely amenable to them after they started the practice of Ur-Gold engravings. Pretty sure you're supposed to pick up on the clue there that it's not Grimnir, the mortal enemy of Vulcatrix, that lives in the Ur-Gold. The Fyreslayers are convinced it's Grimnir, not Vulcatrix they're reviving.
>they know it'll bring back both that's the whole basis for the entire faction.
No, I'm pretty sure they don't know that. It's all a wild guess on their part what using up all the Ur-Gold will do. There's no guarantee that a lesser, mortal god like Grimnir can even be revived, but a divine elemental godbeast native to the Realms is much more likely to be something that can be resurrected through sorcery like they're performing.

NTA but two things
Death to a god regardless of their elemental, conceptual, or just a state of existence is superfluous. To truly kill a god you have to wipe them from memory, even gods with largely no following have power and influence over various things, and we all know the saying “what is death to a god of death?”
Two, the Aelven gods are not conceptual they are just as much gods in the same way that Grimnir is and they themselves explicitly exist in cycles. It’s why Khaine even has power to be stolen and the fact that his power is being stolen is what’s preventing his reformation.

My personal belief is that Griminir and Vulvatrix basically fucked each other to death and who or whatever is revived in any case that it does happen will be neither Griminir or Vulcatrix

Not true at all. If you killed Sigmar he'd be gone for good. No amount of belief can resurrect him because he, like all
>Two, the Aelven gods are not conceptual they are just as much gods in the same way that Grimnir is and they themselves explicitly exist in cycles. It’s why Khaine even has power to be stolen and the fact that his power is being stolen is what’s preventing his reformation.
Aelven gods work by different rules than other gods though. They don't 'resurrect,' they mantle archetypes and roles. Alarielle is just Ariel 2.0, and Ariel was just another elf to take the role of nature goddess. Khaine is well and truly dead beyond recovery, but anyone could take his role if they met the requirements. Morathi is just borrowing the power of his corpse but she's becoming her own goddess, and Morai-Heg (who is slowly being mantled by Krethusa) is a little pissed about that and is currently working to oust Morathi from the cult so that a true Incarnate of Khaine can arise.

>Not true at all. If you killed Sigmar he'd be gone for good. No amount of belief can resurrect him because he, like all
Actually true because Sigmar is the same kind of god that Nagash is, not to mention the fact that Morr could literally be eaten by Nagash and subsumed into a separate and living crystallization of worship but still be alive is even more proof of that. Death is just a state to a god it is not a final end. Even Mathlaan who’s apparently the deadest god of all time still has fragments of his essence and consciousness drifting the seas and interacting with people.

>They don't 'resurrect,' they mantle archetypes and roles.
This is a distinction without a difference because gods are not bound to a singular god head. Nagash the black priest is as much as Nagash the Undying King is Nagash. Just so, Sigmar IS a literal heavenly bull for Ghurrites just as much as he is the God-King.

>Khaine is well and truly dead beyond recovery, but anyone could take his role if they met the requirements
Including Khaine himself, his respawn timer is indefinitely paused until his heart runs dry and considering how retardly homicidal Morathi’s snake half his I wouldn’t be surprised if he reincarnates through her. If the true worship of koans returned and the heart was left to its own devices he would be reborn for the next part of his cycle.

>Morr could literally be eaten by Nagash and subsumed into a separate and living crystallization of worship but still be alive is even more proof of that.
Morr was never eaten by Nagash dumbass. He's the one death god that got away and remains in hiding.
>Death is just a state to a god it is not a final end
Only elemental gods like Chaos and Gorkamorka can shrug off death. Mortal gods don't have that luxury and are very killable unless they use some sort of magic to restore themselves. Nagash, for instance, bound his existence to his pyramid like a phylactery, something he can only do thanks to being undead. He doesn't die, he gets his current manifestation destroyed and his soul returns to his temple to slowly rebuild his body. But if you destroyed his temples and hideouts, he would no longer be able to regenerate and he would be dead for good.
>This is a distinction without a difference because gods are not bound to a singular god head. Nagash the black priest is as much as Nagash the Undying King is Nagash. Just so, Sigmar IS a literal heavenly bull for Ghurrites just as much as he is the God-King.
Worship of Sigmar in any form is worship of Sigmar, yes, congratulations on pointing out the obvious. This has nothing to do with the Aelven gods, for whom worship of Alarielle is worship not just of the mortal goddess Alarielle but also of the nature goddess Alarielle has mantled. Alarielle will eventually perish and a new successor will incarnate as the Aelven nature goddess, receiving the same godhead Alarielle once carried by name and body.

>>
>Including Khaine himself, his respawn timer is indefinitely paused until his heart runs dry and considering how retardly homicidal Morathi’s snake half his I wouldn’t be surprised if he reincarnates through her.
There is no respawn timer dumbass. Khaine is dead-dead. Someone has to step up to take his place or the Aelves will never get a true war god, but Morathi has been careful to destroy anyone who could potentially threaten her parasitic hold over the cult including potential candidates for reincarnation. Morathi can't mantle Khaine because she represents a lie, a stain on Khaine's honor. Her path to godhood was through the consumption of the souls of the Phoenix Kings and the betrayal of her only true love, which makes her a goddess, yes, but not a goddess of war. We don't know precisely what domain she represents, but she's closer to a monstrous beast at heart, a daemon of Aelven creation that grasps for power by any means, even the most unspeakable crimes of deception and betrayal.

>if morathi wasn't syphoning the heart it would have swelled with power until khainr just stood back up with all the worship it was getting
No you fucking retard, read the DoK BT. It is made expressly clear that Khaine is DEAD, not just kinda dead like Nagash getting his body blown up but DEAD. His heart does not have the ability to 'swell with power,' all it can do is bleed. It's a remnant of a dead god, not the last living part of him. Morathi has been lying to the cult since the day she started it all as an easy excuse to gain mortal followers, telling them about prophecies Khaine tells her but in actuality she's just using regular divination spells and Khaine has no voice at all.

>Morr was never eaten by Nagash dumbass. He's the one death god that got away and remains in hiding.
So Nagash-Morr is a false flag I guess

>Only elemental gods like Chaos and Gorkamorka can shrug off death.
Except Aelf gods, and death gods, and gods, and… also I’m not buying into this “mortal” distinction of a god you keep using.

>Nagash, for instance, bound his existence to his pyramid like a phylactery, something he can only do thanks to being undead.
So what’s the excuse for death gods not truly dying?

>This has nothing to do with the Aelven gods, for whom worship of Alarielle is worship not just of the mortal goddess Alarielle but also of the nature goddess Alarielle has mantled.
This is literally the case for all gods and if this was true to the extent that you say it is you could worship Khaine and not Morathi regardless of her having his heart . The second Morathi completes apotheosis Khaine and Morathi will be one until their death and the next part of the cycle. Worshipping Morathi = Worshipping Khaine. The idea that Aelfs both exist inside and outside the cycle is preposterous. Alarielle is Alarielle not Alarielle 1.5.9.2

Being confused about the existence of black people when you live in a time when sailing from Çanakkale (Troy) to Ithaca could lead someone to being stranded for 10 years isn't racism lol. Of course it's wrong to say that history didn't have 'racism', but the conception of white vs black didn't exist until the usage of slavery, where it was used as a simple separation because such large populations from other continents hadn't lived in close proximity before.
Meanwhile, in the Aethiopis (the lost poem which we know about because of later abridged versions, that is where Achilles' famous death via being shot in the heel by Paris is from) features Memnon, a subsaharan demigod (son of Eos) leading an army of Aethiopians to assist Troy. It's described as too big to be counted, and his war stories cause Priam to declare that the Achaeans stand no chance, meanwhile Memnon is super humble, and the gods love him so much that Zeus and all the other olympians promise not to assist the Greeks in the battle. Memnon is seen as beautiful, and noble, he refuses to fight Nestor of Pylos because Nestor is extremely old. Nestor begs Achilles to kill Memnon for him, the two fight, Achilles kills Memnon, then shortly after an arrow is guided to hit his heel and kill him. Greeks had no problem with mythologising and revering this black guy, and while he was on the trojan side, almost all depictions of him are favourable, while he's also treated as the one who comes closest to defeating Achilles in melee combat. Saint Maurice, a soldier from Egypt who was instructed by the Romans to relinquish his faith and offer sacrifices to pagan gods, was consistently depicted as black for 600 years, even becoming the coat of arms of Coburg, Germany as a black man. Arthurian legend has a literal 'black knight', Moriaen, etc
Tl;dr historical western storytellers liked the idea of 'exotic' peoples and didn't see anything wrong with them so long as they were of the same religion

Well, his plinth is empty, but it used to be his thing. I wonder if his domain got overtaken by one of the other gods, maybe that's grungni or thorgrim's area now? Kingship and stuff?
Now it'd be really kino if khazalids now shirked the usage of the title "king" because of the hashutite title and used something else instead, like e.g. the romans with their princeps, or godfrey of bouillon with jerusalem, etc.
Seems like they didn't take this angle though

>Grungni was a sneaky liar
>Valaya doubted him

It's a whole cloth lie, either meant to deceive the nuChaos Dwarfs into following him or just to piss off the Dwarfs in general by denigrating their ancestors. >>
>>98704702
No problem anon. I was gonna make it longer but forgot about the post limit.
I think most fantasy racism seems to just assume shit will pop up at random because most people grow up seeing racism as a very specific thing where you say Naughty Words against people you don't like because they look different, when there are many cases historically of people integrating in different-looking populations with no problems, and we only remember when the groups are actively trying to avoid being integrated for one reason or another that we have historical grievances building up, justified or otherwise. This leads to most fantasy racism just being like "Yeah these guys hate these guys because they have knife ears/are short/whatever".
Warhammer fantasy actually avoided this problem, which makes the amount of fans who's only understanding of dwarfs vs elves the funny 'short' vs 'knife ear' jokes somewhat depressing. The history of the two makes it clear that neither party is really fully at fault and it was an ancient political conflict that was the source of all later problems, even if the modern people only really understand it through their own warped lenses. Meanwhile dwarfs treat humans as dedicated allies, but bumbling ones who can't build worth a damn, despite humans typically treating dwarfs extremely well for the most part, while there are racial conflicts within humans, empire humans treat stirlanders (bumpkin germans) much worse than they treat southlanders (aka black people), which checks out with how they're inspired by renaissance europe and you had shit like Othello at the time

If emprah was born in 8k BC he would have been born near the city of Gobekli Tepe and worshiped their religion.

Ironically the emperor being born in 8k BC is kind of a boring origin now that it seems increasingly likely that human civilisation began in the 'garden of eden' which is also atlantis and beneath the ocean, based on the Basal Eurasian genetics and origins of the Sumerians in 'Dilmun'.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBTa41cK4wM&t=339s

Punic religion came thousands of years later. Much of their religion, like Tanith/Astarte was originally Inanna of the Sumerians, and became Aphrodite for the Greeks and Venus to the Romans (ironically, Rome and Carthage revering the same goddess, though the Romans considered this to be natural and proof that their religion was the One True Pantheon worshiped by different names by all races of men).

Basal Eurasians 'come from nowhere' unless you realize they originated in the garden of eden, which follows the timeline given to plato regarding atlantis. The people cast out of the garden into the drying wilderness, as the sea encroached. Noah/Utnapishtim survived the flood by building seaworthy vessels

Doggerland in northern europe was likely destroyed by a large flood from norway, catastrophic and submerging the lands leaving only engl*nd. Likewise we can surmise the possibility of a mass glacial flood that was catastrophic against the people living in the southern end of the Sumerian lands, the ancestors of the sumerians fleeing northwards by boat to escape their now-flooded homelands.

The origin of Sumerian culture is at the bottom of the persian gulf, villages and tools dating back 17000 years to when most of the world was under ice, but this region was a fertile oasis of food and beasts to hunt.

Without the hydroarchaology in this region, we cannot ever understand the Origins of Civilization and early humanity.

Unless everything in The End Times remains canonical, and HASHUT the Father of Darkness and Fire was killed and devoured by Gork and Mork, who became Gorkamorka, and it is an entirely different being when the world was rewritten by souls and belief that took the mantle of "Hashut". In the same way 'Sheogorath' is the Hero of Kvatch originally, as the truth was that Sheogorath and Jygallag were the same Daedric prince, with Jygallag choosing to become fulling the Prince of Order when his mantle was assumed by another.

In the same way Thorgrim became a god, or that Teclis and Alarielle and Morathi have replaced the elven gods, perhaps Hashut the Ancestor God is himself someone else entirely, assuming a name of power that allowed him to ascend to godhood, and then fall to chaos.

Alright here's inghilde with bonus thorgrim. Like I said she's associated with miners and caves in general, she's the one who inspired dorfs to delve underground and stuff. Also apparently the youngest ancestor god, which I guess means she was originally an AoS-born dwarf as we also have thorgrim?

The point wasn't that they weren't racist ever against people who are black, they believed in the superiority of their own cultures and people, including over the northern europeans and did not see them as related to them
Also, picrel isn't exactly relevant. Juvenal hated the Roman empire and was nostalgic for the lost political power people had in the republic
>Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses.
The guy who idealizes the Romans and thinks of them as based and groyp pilled absolutely does not idealize the Roman republic and probably thinks democracy is le bad. Juvenal also believed Greek philosophy and it's fans were gay, owning the busts of Aristotle and being hairy in arm and face while having shaved buttholes. He also believed roman women were liable to have sex with black men instead, because they were more 'vigorous'
>Be grateful, you wretch, and offer your wife yourself whatever she has
>To take, since if she had chosen to let vigorous boys vex and stretch
>Her belly, you might have been father to an Ethiopian! Your dark heir,
>Barely visible at dawn, would soon be seen everywhere in the will.

>Of course it's wrong to say that history didn't have 'racism', but the conception of white vs black didn't exist until the usage of slavery,
This is outright false and a bit fucked to think american chattel slavery invented being able to determine skin colour and that being a relevant measure in a variety of previous historical circumstances as you're presenting it. There were other ways to discriminate such as lineage or cultural grouping or geographic location or whatever, but these were often combined and colour sure as fuck was part of that mix too.
>>
>>98705357
>The point wasn't that they weren't racist ever against people who are black
The point was to refute
>but the conception of white vs black didn't exist until the usage of slavery, where it was used as a simple separation because such large populations from other continents hadn't lived in close proximity before.
People were regularly racist on and off outside of slavery and on the basis of race too, as well as against blacks for the reason of them being just black. They looked down everyone else sure but were especially harsh on non-Europeans in the case of Greco-Romans, with Greek intellectuals making sweeping generalized analyses of the populations of Europe and Asia, implying or stating outright that they belonged to larger population groups or “races” and alienating and singling out ‘Asiatics’ in particular (some Romans even later looked down on Greeks because they felt they had become too influenced by them).
>Also, picrel isn't exactly relevant.
It’s relevant to show that Greeks also called themselves White. That’s it. Which is why I said to forgive the meme so no one would hyperfixate on it. Juvenal wasn’t a role model of any kind.

>>
>>98705409
Discrimination wasn't hereditary until slavery and even then it was notably discouraged by Christian nations such as a Dutch and promptly dropped by others such as the English in the Americas.
Racism simply didn't exist. The barbarians weren't bound by genealogy, which is why Rome gave citizenship to slaves and soldiers from all colonies.
Please provide one example? You can't. Read a book.
Anyway, there's no reason for racism to exist in AoS based on the colour of one's skin. Sigmar created everyone and they're all cosmopolitan, innately as Azyrites and by necessity as the reclaimed - the tension between is like that of Greece or Rome NOT the Antebellum South.
Your worldview is irrelevant.

also pretty sure slaves were only given citizenship if they were freed
>>
>>98705989
But the claim was that this emperor was the one responsible for making soldiers from all colonies citizens. That's not what Caracalla did - Caracalla made all non-slaves of the Roman empire citizens with the exception of those conquered in wartime. Roman Military Diplomas were a thing nearly 200 years prior to that, where foreigners became citizens via auxilia service.
>>

They weren't always so mysterious. Hell, the Goddess of the Amazons was just straight up an Old One in their original lore, which is why they had access to high tech weaponry.
>>

I’m not aware of anything like that being passed (or for slaves barring freed ones for that matter) so thats what I assumed he meant. The closest thing would be them completing 25 years of service or however long it took before being granted it afaik.
>>
>>98706078
He never said anything about it being 'passed', though I have no clue what he was referring to with slaves since basically none of them were granted citizenship in a large mass. However, freedmen's children were given citizenship. Interestingly, even non-citizen freedmen were so prolific in government bureaucracy that Hadrian had to implement a law limiting the amount of them who were allowed to do it.
In the times when the Roman republic expanded to cover Italy, all the men were enfranchised the citizenship doubled to nearly a million in less than 20 years which is funny

True, but if that is what was meant the 20 year stipulation feels like a pretty important stopgap to that all things considered so should probably be mentioned, it definitely wasn't a free meal ticket in the same way the EoC was at the least. Honestly, even freedmen being given citizenship was mind boggling, let alone for their families. Dionysius found it so remarkable he made mention of it. in his writings iirc. Their privileges were allegedly limited but as you point out that wasn't always the case I guess.

It's definitely a huge thing. I think it's clear to me at least that simply going "non-romans ruined rome because severan dynasty" is wrong, especially because Caracalla ruled in sync with his mother, who was basically the power behind the throne and a Roman, but also that Commodus was responsible for the period of shitshow that allowed Septimius Severus to become emperor in the first place and restore some order. Soft men, hard times, etc. It's not like Caracalla did the mass citizenship because of some desire to ruin the Roman identity, it was just a cynical means to fund his treasury because citizens had to pay inheritance tax while non-citizens didn't

Just putting it out there but even a guy like Juvenal of all people was complaining about "foreign influences" in Rome
> "Since the day when Roman poverty perished, no deed of crime or lust has been wanting to us; from that moment Sybaris and Rhodes and Miletus have poured in upon our hills [...] Filthy lucre first brought in amongst us foreign ways; wealth enervated and corrupted the ages with foul indulgences." (Satire 6: Against Women).
>>
>>98706290
There were definitively poor conditions at play that played a role in allowing Severus to climb the ranks in the first place by him being made a senator. They had a lapse in judgement after Commodus, soft men, hard times like you say. I don't think Caracalla did what he did with the intent of destroying Rome or anything, I think he just did what's natural for all people to do and put the interests of his own first, possibly while hoping it would all work out for the best for all sides with some input from his mom likely influencing him, but the results speak for themselves and the picture it paints does show Romans were right to be wary; In the 23 years following his Edict, they had a succession of MENA emperors: Geta, Macrinus, Elagabalus and Severus Alexander, and their collective reigns culminated in the Crisis of the Third Century (235 - 284 AD), which almost resulted in their collapse. It did thankfully end up being saved by two Illyrians, Aurelian and Diocletian, but after that Rome was near continuously headed by non-Italian emperors. That entire period and the cascading effect it had was objectively a net negative for them in the end despite them managing to avoid what came later.
>>
>>98706515
>put the interests of his own first
The problem with this is why would he see MENA people as 'his own' when he was son of a Roman emperor, born in Gaul, died waging war in Parthia, and he most famously massacred 20,000 MENA people in Alexandria. Regardless of his ethnic makeup, I think you can't make an argument that he was doing stuff to benefit MENA people specifically, when the majority of beneficiaries of citizenship from this would be northern Europeans
Also, are you implying that the Illyrians were Italian? Because surely that means that they were headed near continuously by non-Italian emperors, them included, since the Severan dynasty? Ultimately the problem with wanting local emperors in a culture which prioritises expansionism and idealises militarism is the soldiers are all going to become further and further from the heartland, and therefore the leaders who are made by those conditions will, too
>>
>>98706650
Caracalla was fully aware of how he was perceived due to his heritage regardless of where he was born or what he partook in or where he died, it's simply something he never forgot despite being surrounded by everything Roman. The financial motivation certainly played a role in the Edict and he did try to fulfill what was expected of him but the ethnic motivation of having those of his roots enjoy the same freedoms as Romans can't really be understated (remember that his mom was half Arab too). Also he definitely didn't see them all as 'his own' but he knew Punics/arabs were grouped into the same category from the Roman perspective. Conveniently enough, we actually do have genetic testing/studies conducted that shows that there was a massive flux of Middle Easterners in the late Roman Empire/after the edict was passed, that seemingly only changed because the continuous Germanic/ Northern European invasions/Gothic War depopulated the collapsing empire, so it would seem they were actually the ones to benefit from it the most. Illyrians weren't Italian of course, they're included in the non-Italians, it just shows that it seemingly took two non-MENA emperors to get things back into some semblance of order after a trainwreck of successive ones, which probably didn’t help any lingering confirmation bias the Romans still had,
Anyway we're at the end of the thread and have moved away from the original topic for a good while now but this was a good talk.
