No positive of neutral posting about UB content.>how do I search for non-UB cards? On Scryfall "-is:ub"On EDHREC selecting "Universes Beyond" under Card Filters hides them.>Can I play UB cards even if I hate them? You can do whatever you want, but you shouldn't contribute to the enshittification of this game. >>98702122you could even take the strixhaven charas that have one color in common with hex to match a shard and put them in there for any reason really>TQas for timepiece formats I find locked cardpools kinda boring after a while. maybe one day the powercreep will be too much for me and I'll stop playing with cards printed directly as eternal legal only on top of other restrictions
>>98702122>i know emrakul destroys hexhaven but i would love that a surviving group go to another plane as refugee. There's so much about the Echoverse that shouldn't have been destroyed and it's really vague as to what's going to survive
>>98702105I don't like UB, but if a card has mechanics I like I'm still gonna grab it for a deck. The aesthetics are secondary to the cards being game pieces.
>>98703677>but if a card has mechanics I like I'm still gonna grab it for a deckThat's because you are not an ensouled human, you are an insect in human form.
>>98703706Magic WAS aesthetic for a time. But UB doesn't compromise the aesthetic for me any more than, say, the last six-seven years of Magic. Magic has gotten irredeemably ugly.
>>98703706The person who posted that will instantly buy an Asmongold commander deck tho, so kinda hypocritical
>>98703714It isn't about an aesthetic, it's about whether you have self control or are a creature of pure base instinct like an insect. You scuttle towards food, you scuttle away from hazards, you are incapable of making a decision that requires restraint and higher thinking. There's dozens of reasons not to play UB. Playing UB:>rewards WotC for shitty business practices>is you paying premium prices to obtain literal ads from other companies>contributes to WotC getting lazier and lazier because they're not required to come up with anything original or cater to their audience, they can just keep repeatedly cranking the slot machine of other IPs until they hit a jackpot, and they can do so far faster than in universe sets (see Avatar which literally pushed Lorwyn out of a 2025 release last minute)>contributes to newer players thinking that the state of the game is normal and acceptable>devalues the game players loved for almost 30 years and brings us closer to a reality where Magic is nothing but crossovers and all original characters and places are gone from new releasesThe only reasons to play UB are:>I like this IP>I like this card effectIt is insectoid. There is no other way to describe it. Zero capacity to think beyond your immediate impulses and desires. You will consume with no regard for the consequences of your consumption and because you are mentally incapable of understanding the benefits of restraint

Thinking about making a 4fun premodern EDH. Dunno if I go mono B zombies or mono U merfolks
>>98706445Merfolk. Zombies are boring, especially in monoblack
>>98706445>>98706593Tribal is boring.
>>98706445
>>98706641It is the 2nd or 3rd time you try to build it. They printed way too many generic tribal staples and now every deck has no reason not to be running Patchwork Banner and Urza's Incubator etc.But there's still fun to be had. Ashling the Limitless obviously completely changes how elementals play, faeries go heavy on interaction and that can be fun. Pic related plays unlike any other tribal deck by necessity
>>98707006There are exceptions to the rule, of course.I have a frog tribal Grolnok deck that is much more mill than tribal, for instance. But I also have a dragon tribal Karthus deck that plays around haste a fair bit but is still veey much just tribal, and a Elf tribal Myrkul deck which just uses myrkul to make boardwipes and remove less dire against elfball, but is still very much just tribal.
>>98707062I think everybody should have 1 tribal deck. Again it's only something that get's boring if you have a few of them and begin to realize you have to play all the colorless staples, then the 15 or so obvious includes in your tribe, and then whatever else is a no-brainer for your colorsBut if you pick your favorite creature type, you will have fun having 1 deck of tribal
>>98707385I have 35 decks, so 3 is alright, I think. My issue with tribal is that they are mostly just "[creature] gets buff" or "do damage/draw/value thing equal to number of [creature] you control". It's much more interesting when it builds on a common mechanic for the tribe, rather than just directly referencing the tribe in the ability. If there is no common mechanic, maybe it shouldn't have tribal support.
>>98702105mtg lore and worldbuilding were going badly when they decided to do theme park planes, like not ancient greece, not ancient egypt, instead their own worlds. UB was a logical conclusion of that shit, to cash in the consoomers.
>>98707478True! Standard-legal UB is indeed the newest low in the race towards the bottom of the slop bucket, continuing the trend of such hits as black-border unsets, hat sets and theme park sets.

>>98707867It reaply just depends on how many other cards depnd on it having the name. If you don't have any cards that specifically trigger off of firebending, or if you have firebent, then you're fine to just write out what it does, but in the cases of other abilities like rad counters, they are too easily interacted with and have too specific a purpose to name them anything else.
>>98707937No positive or neutral posting about UB.
Why are there so many lesbians?
>>98708426To have "so many lesbians" you would need so many women, and this hobby has fewer women than it does trannies.Unless you mean characters that are lesbians, then I would say because lefties want the gay to be shown and know that women kissing is more palatable to their audience of men than men kissing.
I built a new shelf for my decks. The old one was too small and made of plywood so it didn't look as nice on the face.
>>98709772Some truly garbage 3D printed deck boxes anon. They're only like 3 bucks, I doubt you even saved any money
>>98709937Wasn't ever about saving money, I have lots of money, it was about doing it myself. Starred out with somone elses design, and then eventually made my own, and continually iterrated upon it until I got a design I really like (purple and geen ones in the bottom left corner), and then I paint them myself as I wish. Good fun and makes them all unique.

Reasons you had to completely ignore in your reply to make playing/not playing UB seem equivalent.Well they're not equivalent. The reasons to play it are simply to gratify your urges with disregard to the consequences.

>>98741603Hasbro execs are going to spin it as being UBpiggies staying for more than just 1 set, exactly like they did at the last investors call even though we know it's not true.At my LGS everyone is dreading Star Trek and saying they're buying in-universe "while [they] can"
>>98741656Could be, could be. I heard one guy mention he loved TMNT but aside from that I didn't hear any UB talk, it was mostly just discussing the set, what cool pulls people got, trying to work out the lore for why Jace went evil and blew up. Rather refreshing. I don't think I had to hear about any of the (((approved UB))) once.
>>98741681TMNT is rotting on shelves here. It's almost like it never released. I saw 1 person with a turtles precon one time, and that's it. Never see people playing the set at all

>>98741826Oh, I should add: the deck was originally built with two tinybones and two pack rats, but I took them out after round 1 in favor of fliers. I regretted that in round 3 when a guy played tinybones and I realized it dealt 4 damage by itself. Should have definitely run all that and insisted my partner play more discard effects.
>>98741826Cute Lavender Town playmat.>>98741834Glad to hear there's some pushback. Now that you mention it I did see a guy walk out with a box of Hobbit, so there's that.>>98741838Right there with you man. Wasn't my call.
>>98741834I go to an LGS in a small city and I will say most of them are UB sloppers. Lot of redditors, and the types of people to buy funkopops. Most games someone plays at least 1 UB card and multiple people have UB commanders. But even here of all places, with customers like that, there are still Avatar, TMNT, and Marvel product just sitting on the shelf. They don't even keep Secret Lairs by the cash register. New SLs they keep close because they're small and easy to steal. But the old ones they just put with the rest of the UB stock on a shelf. Was there an Uncharted SL? Or maybe I'm thinking of Tomb Raider, either way it's still on shelves gathering dust.I wonder how much of a loss they take on this shit. In-universe boosters always sell out in weeks. To the point where I'm not even sure they will have Reality Fracture next week. Completely aside from pre-release I saw about 20 packs of it get cracked, that's almost a whole box, and I'm only counting people I played with

>>98746834Fighting a pointless battle there. The only meaningful distinction that is objective and can be agreed on is whether it's a WotC IP or not.Feel free to not like sets, people disliked sets and planes long before UB. But what you're essentially getting into is "approved UB" but inverted- disapproved in-universe.It's too nebulous. You are always going to find someone who's like "but Neon Dynasty FEELS like Magic to me" just like it doesn't FEEL like Magic to you. No matter how good your reasoning is, it simply won't be universal because ultimately it's a matter of taste.Drawing the line at whether it's a WotC IP or not is all you can do. And it ties into the fact that UB is literally just cardboard ads. Sure the Baldur's Gate set was an ad for the videogame, but that's like saying the First-Years in Lorwyn were an ad for Strixhaven, at least it's the same fucking company shilling their wares instead of shilling stuff for their parent company or even other IP-holders entirely.
>>98747192>The only meaningful distinction that is objective and can be agreed on is whether it's a WotC IP or not.Or that it's in the Magic the Gathering universe. It's certainly more likely for them to make a new IP that is completely a-Magic than it is that they make a new set in the magic the gather universe that is completely a-Magic. So no, that's not a good line.>what you're essentially getting into is "approved UB" but inverted- disapproved in-universe.Disapproved in-universe sets are notwhere near as bad as "approved" UB. That's ridiculous. One is excluding due to bad theming, the other is senselessly including despite it not being in-universe. Mind you, I cam not actually following that, I just know it's less ridiculous than "approved" UB.>No matter how good your reasoning is, it simply won't be universal because ultimately it's a matter of taste.I'm not drawing lines in the sand here, I just don't like those sets.>Drawing the line at whether it's a WotC IP or not is all you can do.Nope, you can draw it at whether or not the set is set in the Magic the Gather universe or not. That is just as definitive and makes more sense.
D&D has very different cosmology and magic systems from MtG. It's part of why I found the idea of the mtg adventure books that used D&D rules to be kinda strange.
>>98748568Yeah I really hate that the D&D sets make no attempt to emulate D&D's magic system, and from what I've heard the reverse is true, the Ravnica and Strixhaven splats for D&D make no mechanical mention of mana bonds. Ironically, if they had done that, and had actually had some story justification of why we were going to the Forgotten Realms or whatever, I would probably have accepted the D&D sets as being not UB.
Just as a reminder, have this.Archive of many mtg books, comics.https://mega.nz/folder/WfhhzSxT#IZUbBarxAZUWOB-KKzrQWgGuy that used to curate it doesn't seem to post anymore, but this is still up.
>>98748735Thank you, brother. I was trying to find these at some point and was having no luck.

>>98748283>Or that it's in the Magic the Gathering universe. All it would take is for a planeswalker to visit another IP and this falls apart.>It's certainly more likely for them to make a new IP that is completely a-MagicIt really isn't since the company has quite literally never made an IP and only ever acquired 2
>>98751788>all it would take is for a story decition that would never happen in canon unless WotC specifically wanted that other IP in their canon, which they don't for creative and legal conserned.>WotC have never made an IPWell that's just false.
>>98752378>all it would take is for a story decition that would never happen in canon unless WotC specifically wanted that other IP in their canon, which they don't for creative and legal conserned.Having a planeswalker visit a different IP doesn't bring it "in their canon" or create any legal problems. They do it exactly the way they're doing UB right now, except they put Tam or whoever the fuck is replacing Jace now on the card arts laughing it up with Mickey Mouse and Peppa Pig. They could do it at the drop of a hat.>>WotC have never made an IP>Well that's just false. No it's true. The company was founded by Peter Adkinson in 1990. Richard Garfield approached them with a game called RoboRally, which they rejected. He later came back with Magic the Gathering. He joined Magic AFTER they approved his pitch. It's his game, they just acquired it, he wasn't in house when he first designed it.And then they had Kaijudo which was a western spin-off of Duel Masters, and then Duel Masters itself which originated in Japan.D&D was acquired by WotC, that goes without saying. So go ahead and name one time WotC has made an original IP. Bonus points if it was in the last 20 fucking years of it's 36 year existence

I thought wotc made DM.m and I just confirmation biased myself into believing it fully.Nonetheless they aquire IPs just fine, and an aquired IP isn't UB, so if they aquire it and make a set for it, it's won't be UB according to them regardless of setting and such

Game Knights is gay shite, but their Reality Fracture game really changed my mind about Dack Fayden. I thought it was overcosted to shit and I'd never want to be giving my opponents my shit, but actually it's insane. He's expensive as hell to cast, but once he's out you just keep blinking him and give your opponents armies of creatures they have to swing at each other.I even think the deck on the show was built wrong, had too many 3 and 4 mana creatures. It could also have had more blink that returns things under their owners control or other cards that return control.
>>98764627to me it confirmed my fears it was going to be oops all blink slopwanted to build him first but then quickly remembered white has flickerwhisp and co. so the optimal way is to just combo out.now I'm trying to think of a way that doesn't do that but is still fun for me but idk, people will just kill him out of fear no matter what I feel.he was the first mono white commander that piqued my interest in the slightest

The bog standard for a reanimate spell is 4 mana, so you can do that easy turn 4.So it all really depends on what exactly you are reanimating, the big boys you build your deck around. Jin is a pretty strong ones for b2, certainly against the "as casual as possible while still trying running a deck that has a gameplan" idea of b2. But it's not explicitly banned so eh.

Magic Hot Take:Mana weaving before shuffling is the sensible thing to do.If you just clear your board after a game, shove it in the deck and then shuffle a few times your deck is actually LESS random, it just happens to be less random in a way that is disadvantageous to you.
>>98772790too many times have I seen sol ring to signet starts and I just know they were too clumped because of poor shuffling. people should weave all cards from previous games
>>98772790If you aren't riffle shuffling at least 7 times, you aren't actually shuffling. Mana weave or no, you are cheating.

>>98773051What do you mean qhat I think it means? It means do a riffle shuffle at least 7 times. Do you know what a riffle shuffle is? Mash shuffling with equal stacks randomizes about as well.
>>98702122>i kinda like the hexhaven factions more than the strixhaven factionsYeah? >>98773205>overhand shuffle a few timesThen you're cheating>like everyone elsePretty much everyone mash shuffles now, regardless of format. If they aren't doing it at least seven times, they're cheating.

I can still play magic. I can bring my predh and UwU commander decks to regular commander night. They play just fine against wolverine or fallout. I can share cubes, I can lend people premodern decks, or my old kitchen table decks. I can enjoy myself, socialize and have fun.I'm not interested in poisoning my mood by whining that today's cards are bad. I'm especially not interested in calling people subhuman for buying a fucking ninja-turtle pack. Like are you for real? How can you justify that? Get used to comic book nerds buying dumb stuff. They've always done that. You're wasting your time and mine hating them. Get used to tranny's playing commander. Loads of trannies were around FNM and drafts back in 2002 before the first modern border cards, and they're not going anywhere. I'd rather play against a fag or a tranny or a spiderman-tshirt neckbeard than some whiney baby who acts like I'm personally attacking him if I put sam gamgee in my deck. There is no holy war for the soul of your beloved game, you just are unpleasant to spend time with so you can't find all the people who are happy to play the version of the game you claim to like.I'm a huge fan of creating fan formats. If you wanna play without UB I'm into that format. Just focus your energy on positive things, like creating the format and making it good, and quit the negative stuff where you insult people for like differant cardboard triangles than you. Thats the most autistic shit imaginable. SyBau
I also don't like LB. I build decks without UB cards, because I like the flavor. I also play premodern, prefire modern, 2015 'modern, predh and build pre-8th edition edh decks and kitchen table decks. I build and play cubes where I exhibit a preference against several new-style card designs, whether it be UB, excessive power creep or color pie breaks. I care about the flavor of card design and I hold the opinion that wotc's game design, game balance, art design and general flavor (card effect themes, naming styles and the move from blocks to single sets)have become worse over time. Nobody can agree exactly what era is correct magic, and what era is incorrect magic, but there is a reasonable case to be made that certain older eras of the game were better made, better balanced and had better flavor. I will argue that this opinion is based on real merits of design, not just nostolgia.HOWEVERI got really tired of complaining. I don't complain about current card design because its such a waste of my time and happiness. 40 cards with "spiderman" in the name? Sure. UB hobit and lord of the rings? Sure. Ai art and video game looking cards? Sure whatever. You can't take the things I enjoy away. Yes I'd like to hear someday that wotc has cleaned up their act and made standard really good, but I don't think that will ever happen-It doesn't sell packs. I don't base my happiness on the big company's whims. Its not that important to me that they change. I can already access the version of the game that I like, and honestly it WOTC pivoted overnight to supporting all my favorite formats I know they'd make it worse. Fan curated formats are better, just get your fake-fan ass out if you're more interested in insulting people than in maintaining a format people will play.

>>98793556Not what was said at all. EDH wins area entirely just based on social factors. It's John's turn to win because Timmy, Pete, and Joe won the last session.
>>98793556Now continuing onward, MTG regardless of format has been solved since the mid-to-late 90's. The more cards you draw, the more likely you are to get a combo out or get all the pieces you need to get ahead. Particularly this was around things like "The-Deck." You run ancestral recall, opt, brainstorm, etc. to draw cards and then you run boardwipes to get rid of any card advantage on the board and things like mindtwist to remove any card advantage in your opponents hand. MTG is won by simply getting more value in your hand and on the board. The only thing randomness is reduce the frequency to which any particular deck can get the most value. All varieties of decks in general work on this principal. The fast red aggro tries to get the value advantage and utilize it as early as possible. The classic control deck just tries to negate that advantage and gets the value later in the game. The combo deck just tries to get infinite value in one turn which it wins. More relevant cards than your opponent = win game. More card draw/fetch = more likely to have relevant cards. EDH even though it's singleton still has the same principal. Since EDH has the cardpool of legacy, even though you can only run one of each card, there is still plethora of redundant cards. Not only is there braingeyser, there's stroke of genius, blue sun's zenith, so on and so forth. Not only is there brainstorm, there's opt, portent, preordain, ponder, sleight of hand, so on and so forth. Not only is there demonic tutor, there are the other few dozen tutors. Building consistent decks in EDH is simply just a matter of learning all the viable redundancies in the MTG card catalogue.;
>>98805498Well that's literally not the case at all.>>98805536Drawing cards is generally good, yes.Playing card is generally good, yes.I don't think you understand game design at all if you think drawing and playing cards being good makes any format solved. There are lots of ways to achieve both of these, but yes, they are both fundamental parts of winning outside of some very niche decks.Outside of games that don't have draw as a possibility, or it isn't particularly relevant because you can draw so much by default, drawing is always incredibly powerful and a fundamental part of the game, yes. And obviously having the relevant cards for your deck to operate is too, that's completely unavoidable in any card game.
>>98805793>I don't think you understand game design at all if you think drawing and playing cardsSince you have reading comprehension issues:>The more cards you draw, the more likely you are to get a combo out or get all the pieces you need to get ahead. The only thing randomness is reduce the frequency to which any particular deck can get the most value. The more cards you draw the more likely you are able to get more value on the board and in your hand. ALL formats rewards decks that efficiently get out win cons and answers. Ultimately variations in win-conditions are not so relevant other than how efficiently they can be achieved. >outside of some very niche decks.Sure niche decks exist. But they lose far more often than not because they either didn't fill their deck with redundancy or they simply were far to inefficient to get their win-cons out. If we're going to talk about decks that don't win games then who cares? They by definition cannot ever be part of a solution to any game.>Outside of games that don't have draw as a possibilitySo we're not talking about EDH anymore? We're just talking about some odd one-off draft where JotC somehow forget to make cantrips or any sort of card advantage? Or maybe an entirely different game like Yugioh where the other guy drew his turn 0 win combo?>or it isn't particularly relevant because you can draw so much by default, drawing is always incredibly powerful and a fundamental part of the game, yes. And obviously having the relevant cards for your deck to operate is too, that's completely unavoidable in any card game.In other words>uh no it's not this thing but it is this thing
>>98805869Drawing and playing cards are how you win practically any card game, yes. If you think that makes a card game "solved" then you don't understand game design at all.The niche decks I was brining up win by not drawing, by mulliganing until they have a keepable hand, spitting it all out at once, and denying resources to the opponent and themselves.I was bringing up other card games to say these are partial exceptions to the rule that spans all card games.
>>98806657Since you're retarded and you don't understand what adjectives mean I'm just going to greenpost things I already said because you're arguing against someone else. >MTG is won by simply getting more value in your hand and on the board. >All varieties of decks in general work on this principal. The fast red aggro tries to get the value advantage and utilize it as early as possible. The classic control deck just tries to negate that advantage and gets the value later in the game. Since EDH has the cardpool of legacy, even though you can only run one of each card, there is still plethora of redundant cards. > Building consistent decks in EDH is simply just a matter of learning all the viable redundancies in the MTG card catalogue.I've already covered everything. Either you use a lot of draw to get your combo pieces or you build in a lot of redundancies. >by mulliganing until they have a keepable handWhich is most decks>spitting it all out at once, and denying resources to the opponent and themselves. The decks that tend to do this use high redundancy in the format enable being able to not have to mulligan to 1 every other game for a keepable hand. This was already covered. Red aggro was an example I used of >get the value advantage and utilize it as early as possible>other card gamesDon't give a fuck. I haven't mentioned any other card games nor are they relevant. You can manipulated card advantage in hand via drawing or making your opponent discard in MTG. It doesn't matter whether or not you can or can't do it in some other card game nophono cares about.
Hey guys I'm making a custom mtg card and want your thoughts. She can cross the street on command, she comes back on command, and she can take out local varmints on command too."2/2
>>98807539Mythic. I assume it's your dog which is why you gave it an absolute shit load of keywords and abilities. Going to ignore the very unsettling implication that your dog drowns cats and you think that's cute, and just focus on the card.2 mana 2/2 haste with 2 different activated abilities and limited protection and deathtouch is just insane. Powercreep is getting bad in this game but this is too much.An Island just being on the battlefield somewhere is really weird text for an ability that is shit anyway. You can just have protection from cats, it's never going to matter in 99.999% of gamesRed isn't really the fight color, green is, so flavor fail on that ability. 1U bounce is much more powerful than you seem to think it is. Can be used to block without taking damage, dodge a boardwipe, abuse infinite loops. "Deathtouch when dealing damage to cats" is just bizarre templating and so insanely specific. I don't even know why you want it given you already have protection from cats and are going to win most combats against them anyways. Again just seems to be some weird reference to your dog killing cats, which I said I wasn't going to mention.Oh and it isn't legendary even though you named it.Try:>Anya, Rabid Hydrocutioner>GUR>Legendary Creature - Dog >Haste>Protection from Cats>{T}: Anya fights target Cat.>2/2FYI there is already a dog commander in exactly the colors you're trying to play. Pic related partners with a monoblue guy and together they play fetch by stealing other people's cards. It doesn't kill cats, but I'd recommend reskinning that instead of dabbling with custom cards, you clearly can't be trusted to restrain yourself.
>>98807911Some of those points are fair, some not so much. I'll drop the death touch but I'm keeping the island requirement. Red having fight makes as much sense as green having haste. Sure it's not their primary. But it's an extra nit pick because it's their secondary and it's attached to a green creature. I can make it a 2u instead if you think that's better. And no I'm not reskinning a card that in no way is like my dog.
>>98807983>Red having fight makes as much sense as green having haste. Sure it's not their primary. But it's an extra nit pick because it's their secondary and it's attached to a green creatureIt isn't though. Red has lots of cards that cause a creature to deal an amount of damage to a target, but I can't even think of one red fight spell. It's such a green thing. And it doesn't matter that it's "attached to a green creature" you put red in the ability cost.>I can make it a 2u instead if you think that's better.I made it GUR for a reason.>my dog.Your dog kills cats and you're a sociopath.
>>98808019>I can't even think of one red fight spell. Pic related. Red and green are apart of the fight color identity and they're both represented on this card. This is a stupid nitpicking.
>>98808072Oops forgot Pic
>>98785399Big update. I played this powerful white deck at pauper tonight and got dead last. You're welcome.
>>98808224My God, it takes a master deck builder to know how to build something this trolly and janky.
>>98808224is there really only 2 in the game? plus the enchantment which I feel is pretty good for 1 mana
>>98808983whoops meant to quote>>98783099
>>98808983This dude is also a Flagbearer.
>>98808989I guess there is spellskite as the honorary flagbearer
Puppet theme deck ideas?
>>98807175You said formats are all solved.I said your reasoning for formats being solved is stupid because the thibgs you are talking about are simply how all card games work. That's it, that's all.
>>988075392RHasteAs long as an Island is on the battlefield, Anya has protection from Cats and "Whenever it deals damage to a Cat, destroy that creature."{1}{G}, {T}: Anya fights target creature.{1}{U}: Return Anya to its owner's hand or put it on top of its owner's library.2/2Switching the green and red around makes sense because green is more fight and red is more haste.I would suggest going to the custom card general, you will get better advice there and it will be relevant to the topic, as opposed to here where it's pretty explicitly not relevant. Custom UB cards are still UB cards.
>>98809045Sadly nothing really mechanically connects them. You could build a threaten deck to thematically puppet master creatures, but sadly no black or blue.If you're set on grixis for all the flavor cards... maybe you could convince your group to let you use dihada?
>>98809045play head games or mindslaver. make your opponent the puppet
>>98809125>head gamesYikes, that card is way too problematic.
>>98809087I think green feels better as a primary color for my dog. She doesn't feel like a primarily red creature. Besides we've already established, green does haste a lot and red is the second most likely color to have fight. >custom card generalWhere is that? I thought they died.
>>98810334>custom card generalThe only person that cares about a custom card is the person that created it, so it died. With that said in front:>>98809087I refuse to be bunched with the creatively bankrupt UB sets, there are lots of derivative custom sets and cards, but there is original work being done too.
>>98808983>>98808989Honestly building changeling flagbearer would be fun as fuck. The problem is that while it shuts down auras and pump decks completely, if someone else plays something that needs removing, flagbearer eats the fucking removal.>>98809045Ah my friend. My dear friend. You follow in my lonely footsteps learning that WotC has printed many cards that are puppet "themed" but don't at all do what you want a puppeteer deck to do.They even specifically printed a fucking puppeteer commander themed around theft, but then they made her monored and damn near fucking useless because most red theft only steals for a turn >>98809103 she exists to go in the 99 of grixis theft commanders, sad as it is.Pic related doesn't have anything to do with theft, but rakdos big mana can be fun
>>98810334>but they do each others things!Yes, but they are still each others things. Fight is still a primarily green effect. Haste is still a primarily red effect. You do you, but from a card design standpoint, you are wrong to do it.The custom card general goes over this, but I guess they are gone now.>>98810689You are being bunched in with them because you card is not in-universe, therefore it's UB.
>>98811052>but from a card design standpoint, you are wrong to do it.It is not wrong to have the second primary color for a keyword to use said keyword. >you card is not in-universeNothing represented on the card doesn't already exist in mtg though.
>>98811120>it's not UBIf it's not an established character and it's legendary, it's UB, especially if it's literally your dog.>it's not wrongIt's not right.
>>98811120The "second primary" color is called the secondary color and incurs additional costs.
>>98807539Maybe Reddit would be better suited to this question, AI slopping redditor.
>>98811371Fair enough. But it's still not wrong to use a secondary color for a keyword. It's not like I gave it to blue or white. >>98811372K. It costs more than Prey Upon. >>98811427I've been on 4chan for a decade mate.
>>98811582>I've been on 4chan for a decade mate.Holy fucking limey newfag!
Some of the old mtg art is cool.
>>98811371Si if UB is legal in standard my custom cards are legal in standard, right?
you do play the best blue removals: mystic reflection and amphibian downpour in order to not waste multiple cards on opponent's recastable commanders, right?
Reminder that just weeks ago this guy was saying he reversed his balding with finasteride and rosemary oil lmaoTotally didn't just sweep it forward guys
>>98814296No, official UB standard legal sets are legal in standard.
>>98814548Damn Mystic Reflection is fucking mean. Literally just have to get your commander killed somehow to bring it back.Amphibian Downpour is whatever, though. Good value.
>>98815242You can reverse entropy but you can't reverse balding
>>98702122Some of the hexhaven schools are better than their strixhaven counterparts (konstrari and fatehold) but hexhaven as a whole is garbage for wasting the ally color pair schools on the mirror universe versions of the strixhaven ones instead of their own thing.
>>98816392Wouldn't have been a waste if it wasn't just one set.
>>98816392>>98816455RF more than any other set so far is making me miss set blocks.Like previously, i got it, from a strategic point of view locking yourself in to one theme for 3 sets is going to be a disaster if it doesn't land with the playerbase, whereas if every set is a new thing you can always just revisit the successful ones. But man. This needed like one set for the Hexhaven, one for the color swaps, and one to tie it all together. It also needed to not fucking destroy the plane it was set on because this would be such a fun thing to revisit in future if you just ended and cut the "Jace is eeeevil and using this to take over the multiverse" aspect of it in future
How do I build pic related? Is it even viable in current year?
>>98814148True.
>>98817318Yes, just play it in bracket 2.You build it with self mill and double strike/extra combats. Prioritize creatures in all aspects (removal, ramp, protection, etc).
>>98817631This is also just potentially an insane stax piece.
>>98818417I should add: you don't need anything that buffs your creatures cause they are already 2/2s with menace. You're better off with graveyard protection and boardstate protection.
>>98818422Don't be a puss and play it in your next commander game. All my white decks ahev Crusades in them and nobody cares.
>>98818446I would, honestly, but I don't have a stax.deck or any want to have one.
>>98817631ebin, somebody post edited version of text tho
>>98818684I gotchu
>>98809072We're not talking about "all card games." I don't give a fuck about "all card games" since they don't have the same card effects. I'm talking about MTG where we know we have the effects which make my argument true and just make you look like a fucking retard who doesn't want to admit that this game is solved, that everyone already knows all the deckbuilding tricks to maximize win chance and have for over 30 years. Cantrips and other efficient cards that let you draw more cards are consistently a part of this. We're talking about MTG, a game with cards like brainstorm, opt, sleight of hand, portent, ponder, preordain, and a large variety of other cards that let you dig through your deck for the cards you need. You can use those cards to efficiently increase the odds you draw what you need if you can't just dig it out of your deck. This is why Ancestral recall is banned in most formats if it's part of the format's sets. This is also one of the appeals of flashback + self-mill. You increase the number of cards you can play though generally this is much more susceptible to anti-graveyard cards even though it is functionally the same thing. Accessing more cards in your deck in as efficient a manner as possible so that you can get what you need.EDH has been solved for a long time. There is a lot of variance as to what can be done but everyone knows what the best cards to run are. When new cards are released, pros in whatever format tend to figure what the best cards to run from the new set are even if /mtg/ fails to identify them. i.e. the cutter. (Is your post just another occurrence of /tg/ being wrong again? I think so!) If you want an EDH deck to run efficiently and consistently, the answer is what I've been saying here over and over again. Run lots of draw. And then the only thing you really have to worry about is variance, whether or not your opponent has an answer to your combo and can stop it immediately.
>>98820968I'm literally agreeing that drawing is good, and saying that is is good in all tcgs to explain that yes, drawing a core part of this game as it is a core part of all games. That is in no way solving any format, certainly not edh where there are brackets meant to limit deck power levels.

>>98821197I'll breach your hull
>>98799524>That's like saying that Tezzeret can now counter-spell now cos he's blueYes, Tezzeret is fully capable of casting counter magic because he's a blue mage.
Do stores actually play the modern 2015 format?
>>98822154Come at me bro
>>98702105>lose -1/-0so they gain +1/+0?
>>98823053Yes.
>>98799524>That's like saying that Tezzeret can now counter-spell now cos he's blue.Well, yes, he should be able to. Shit, Jaya won one of her most important fights by casting Boomerang, a Blue spell. Even mortal mages aren't hard locked to a color, let alone a specific archetype, they just have a particular preference and a selection derived from what they had the opportunity to learn and what lands they've formed mana bonds with.
>>98702105>TQI Love PreDH, i have Pic related for it, i just wish i had people to play with. anyone else play it?
>>98717063>MabelHoly shit the power creep has gotten worse since I stopped caring about this game.
>>98809045There's also this card

>>98824136I could grab a list from somewhere and play o n Endstep.
>>98825013don't forget your name badge, boss
>>98824136Naw. I really favor 3 color decks and the 3 color pool in predh is very shallow.
>>988271813 colors is the max I will do but the mana bases to feel jank on a budget
>>98828007My mana base always feels jank so I don't care. My 4 color deck is deserts that mostly enter tapped, and my 5 color in gates that enter tapped. It's fine. The commanders are just very limited.
>>988282814c commanders, almost none, yeah. But partners give a few options.I just feel like a 5c mana base is almost unaffordable on a budget. Aside from the mere existence of UB, the one thing that pisses me off about this game more than anything else is that WotC know everyone needs lands so they're really fucking stingy on reprinting good ones and just keep iterating on them instead so that the decent ones all hover around $5 or more each. Angers me beyond words when I'm looking at my decks and almost half the value of the fucking deck is in lands.
How many commanders is too many? I play all of these regularly. I cycle through most of them in about 2 months of play.I am also trying to find an azorius commander I actually like. In draft azorius is the only colors I actually win events with but man the options for commanders fucking suck. I don't mind playing control or blink or both but I just can't find a commander that makes me excited to build around
>>98791948>They gave her broader shoulders than a linebacker. You must be so puny holy moly.
>>98817631Stax always loses. Stax will never be allowed to win.
>>98828652pretty good taste here, especially Nin
>>98828378I meant 3 color in predh. Partners aren't legal there, nor are the other 4 color options. So it's just the nephilim if your group allows it.
>>98828699Thankies :3c
no one casts blasphemous act anymore
>>98828946Since when? See it all the fucking time at my LGS. To the point that I've actually put in a few payoffs and counters to it, like a Screaming Nemesis to ping someone, or ways to get protection from red
>>98828652I dunno. I have 38, but 3 I don't use and brewing 2 more right now.
>>98828993Sorry, 35, 3 I don't use. I thought I had thd three separated but did not.
>>98829005Can you list them or show a pic? I wish to judge you
>>98829015See>>98709772The ones covered in order (right-left up-down) are Bre of clan stoutarm, 5 color dungeobs headed by sisay, marath enrage (sorta), Dunebrood Nephilim desert landfall, and Mr Foxglove focused on wmptying my hand quickly and efficiently to refill it as often as possible, so counterspells and combat tricks, mostly. The proxied ones are avatar roku, the celestial toymaker (bracket 1 game pile), inquisitor eisenhorn, cayth famed mechanist, susan foreman and the tenth doctor, and the master transcended. The ones I'm brewing are Tekuthal as monoblue (mostly jace) planeswalkers, and Xyris grou draw like my nekusar deck: no wheels.
>>98829063The three I don't use are in the bottom right. Krenko wins in 5 or so turns unless it's KOSd then it just loses, Eruth takes 30 minute turns with a practically unchanging boardstate, and Carmen is way too opressive for regular play.
>>98829063>>98829077Other notes:I don't think I have any tutors in any of the decks, and definitely no sol rings.Gwafa Hazid was originally a very old Gwafa Hazid deck that I made into a pillowfort Zur the Enchanter deck, but I hate tutoring to I changed it back into a Gwafa Hazid deck. Lots of changes between each of them.Myrkul is an elfball deck made without buying any cards, just what I own.Ephara was a Raff Weatherlight Stalwart mantrip deck, and is mostly unchanged from that. I switched it because we were meant to have a Theros cycle game at some point, but that fell through.Rocco is usual Rocco afair, but does focus a good deal on food and chaos as it was made for a fun chef cycle game we had a few years back.Wolfgar is a legendary tribal deck with maybe one or two cards that care about things being legendary.Nekusar has no wheels as said.Grolnok only has permanents in it outside of Croaking Counterpart since I can cast it with flashback.Molimo and Jhoira is a explouding vegitation into cascade deck.Momir Vig was originally made for a hqlloween deck cycle game and only had spooky creatures in it, but has since changed.Foxglove is built as mentioned with only cards I already owned.Krenko has no creatures in it.Carmen is just about repeatedly bringing back edict creatures.
How the fuck have I never seen this card before? It looks hilarious
>>98824136All my EDH decks I build are PreDH but I just play with the normies any the LGS anyways. If they win with their broken new cards I just consider that they cheated.
