I'm personally obsessed with it, a dull blown functional socialist republic in america's heartlands, what is the best way to go about setting a campaign there?
>>
>>98702318
Could probably start with players as a group of frontier soldiers/rangers that are trying to protect the worker's dream from the encroaching corpoworld forces, potential to a lot of neo western shenanigans desu
>>
>>98702318

Funny how you guys only have this and a few other tired and already worn out non arguments.

I like this idea, a vanguard of rangers sent to the frontier to fight corpo soldiers for the mainland is peak aesthetics, picrel

It has to be a cyberpunk+post apocalyptic thing where a socialist collective is trying to make socialism work even though history books have shown it don't work. As much as it sounds nice on paper.

Anyways a big thing about Cyberpunk is that the corporations have won and that they always will win in the end. Socialism in the end wouldn't work in a cyberpunk dystopia unless the "rebels" all stand together like a "rebel collective."
I've pondered the idea of 'rebels of competing and contradictory ideas' working together to resist the corpo death squads.
>socialists motivated by corpo horrors to remove all and rebuild society
>reformists that want to "reform corpos"
>jaded maniacs that just want to destroy everything in a blaze of glory
>anarchists that want to burn everything down in hopes of a better future
>cartels and mafias doing cartel and mafia things
Things like that. Could lead to some interesting inner rebel collective politics like tard wrangling the anarchists and jaded maniacs and redirecting their desires where their usage will be maximized.
But everyone knows that if the objectives are accomplished everyone is gonna backstab each other.
>>
>>98702999
It will 100% work, the genre has Rastafari in space and anarchists and alien AI gods. Socialisms as a sub-culture with its own fashion and symbols and shit.

Fuck off to your slop general.

I just had this idea that it could be opposite of how people usually perceive the rural vs urban divide.

What if the big cities, especially the coastal ones, just keep squeezing normal people with higher rents etc until the urban poor have no choice but to live in the deep country and flyover states?

Similarly, right now we're seen big immigration crackdowns in areas with lots of white liberals that the Trump administration wants to terrorize(Minneapolis et al) but have you heard of farms, ranches, meatpacking plants etc in red areas getting raided by ICE even though they tons of undocumented workers? I wouldn't be surprised if their owners straight up petitioned our manifestly corrupt president to leave their businesses alone.

So long story short the big cities are mostly white/rich and the countryside is full of plucky bands of diverse former city folks trying to stealth-homestead/squat on lands owned by private equity, eco-terrorists protecting the former state parks, etc

>>
>>98702318
Could work, but you cannot make it about the socialism alone, otherwise that'll make it a fucking Mecca for everyone to show up and take advantage of your socialism until the dream dies.

So your socialism needs protection, meaning that alongside the socialism you can also keep a very healthy military industrial complex, every adult man or woman had to go thru the military, and be ready to conscript, etc. otherwise you might see your futuristic dream utopia destroyed, either by mere immigration from too many people straining the services, or from corporations or even the former US government itself, coming back to assert authority over your liberal arts hippie dream commune.

Post apocalypse would work better to be honest, because one of the major themes of cyberpunk is that the people are powerless to do anything against their situation, this is why the only from of rebellion left over is to become a criminal (Edgerunners, Shadowrunners, every single protagonist from every cyberpunk novel, etc.) so a socialist utopia rising from the ruins of the old world is far more realistic than one rising up under the shadows of corporate government. Only way that would happen in cyberpunk is under the thumb of the corporations themselves, and that will mean less socialism, and more a masquerade of socialism, as the gleaming socialist city on a hill is instead nothing more than a corporate prop used for publicity.
>>
>>98703590
I'd argue in Cyberpunk's case, that wouldn't apply to Wyoming mostly because its considered a sealed off socialist rogue state (From the perslective of other, corpo controled polities and the NUSA) , it definitely applies to the roaming packs of nomads on the wastelands however.
>>
>>98703172
His love of slop implies jeet though, actual white people are rightly viscerally disgusted by it to the point of nausea

See
>>98703295
>>
>>98703762
Canonically, what happens in Wyoming is the socialists take over and do seal themselves off to protect their land from hostile influence and incursions, outside of this, there's very little lore on the Wyoming state in the Cyberpunk 2020/2077 universe so I thought it'd be ripe for expansion.

>Mao made 4 disgustingly rich jew capitalists from fucking Wall Street his financial advisors, one was even made minister of the cconomy
>Disgustingly rich jew capitalists, to this day, costantly bankroll every leftist cause under the sun
>Modern commies rightfully hate billionaries, yet they are perfectly fine with accepting donations from George (and Alex) Soros, Reid Hoffman, Larry Fink, and many more
>M-muh CIA!
The wet dream of every capitalist is to become a monopolist and have no competitors. All it takes to achieve this is a bunch of sufficiently militant useful idiots that refuse to see the truth. Tell me, in all honesty: why wouldn't the Corpos want to see socialist Wyoming gone? Could it be because it's actually not a threat... but an asset?
>>
>>98703902
>/pol/slop seething

Calm down chuddy, trump won't pay you for shitposting here or posting a shallow 3rd grade understanding of history and marxism.

Either way, the corpos absolutely want Socialist Wyoming gone, they are just too busy fighting eachother and a gorillion factions at the same time. Hell IIRC in 2077 they had just come from a corpo war and were basically on a massive locked arnistice between the larger corpos. If anything, wyoming's isolation is its greatest triumph, which is why a campaign where wyoming revolutionaries drive corpo armies away would be a herculean task and be an excelent setting for a campaign as OP said.
>>
>>98704213
I'll gladly let you dodge reality, we are on /tg/ after all, so let's stay on topic: wouldn't a campaign centered on saving Wyoming from a Corpo conspiracy and ensure the Will of the People is respected interest you? This wouldn't offend your communist sensibilities AND make for a slightly more original plot. I don't want to suggest how to run your games, I'm just saying it's Cyberpunk, not Cybertankie.
>>
>>98704275
I mean yeah, that's a good idea, I was agreeing with you on that

I mean history has shown that shit doesn't work.
Not saying what we have now is good either. The solution isn't to try something that has failed repeatedly. It is to try something different. But road to hell is paved with good intentions has always been proven right.
I can easily see marxists fitting in Cyberpunk dystopia settings because the unchecked unchained corporations doing their things would easily radicalize the ordinary citizen to give it another go in hopes that this time it will work.
But I do stand by what I said at >>98702999 where their collective will be a mishmash of conflicting ideologies and misfits forced to work together to stall the corporate boot stomping them dead or perish in pieces faster. I should have had that part in the post though.

>A slick, ambitious bastard has been hard at work bribing and blackmailing his way in Wyoming, and has managed to create a clique that would turn the place into an authoritarian, corrupt puppet state where his parent Megacorp would call all the shots from behind the curtain
>The PCs find out
>They are marked for elimination
>They now have to escape hit squads and accumulate proof, in order to expose the conspiracy before these corpo kikes actually manage to take over Wyoming
>Maybe they even start an uprising against the traitorious clique and their corporate sugar daddies
>But they have to be careful: other corps, or even the US government, may exploit the situation
So, how's chuddy's plot working for ya, comrade?
>>
Mutually exclusive power fantasies.
Cybrpunk is ancap paradise, unconcerned with the well being of Humanity at scale, the conclusion is already set about the capacity of the specie being unable to keep up with the technological advancement and how it disassembles us. The fantasy is to escape and develop enough capacity for violence everyone leaves you alone to do as you see fit.
Tankies want the same cyber industrial capacity and befits of the bourgeoisie but to be Good guys because their board of directors wears a different hat and save the world.
Very different focus so its going to be hard to line up a conspiracy one of you won't find revolting because its based on fundamentally different assumptions about human nature.
>>
>>98702318
IS Wyoming socialist like soviet Russia, or socialist like the UK, Canada, France, etc? Like, are we talking capitalist with universal healthcare, or gulags and bread lines?
>>
>>98705714
Socialist like the soviet union, complete with its own iron curtain and heavily militarized border, it needs to be like that because itsbliterally surrounded by threats all around.

Also social democracy isn't socialism.
>>
>>98702346

It isn't /pol/tardation to point out something just doesn't work.
I do suspect that this thread was made by a /pol/tard and is doing a larp of being a bad lefty/pol/. The AI slop usage is a good indicator. No shibboleth moments have happened yet to be the big giveaway.

That actually sounds amazing. I think ripperdocs in Cyberpunk settings are basically voodoo docs with technology and less anesthetic.

The only thing longer than the list of failures and attrocities that have resulted from socialism is the list of excuses constantly coughed up by its apologists.
Do not ask me to repeat them, i do not have the energy to spend half an hour summarising marxist failure to then recieve a response of "nuh uh, capitalism is worse and stuff". You know you are backing a dead horse.

what is to do in FUNCTIONAL society except getting fat?
>>
>>98702318
It's not that hard. Just take any European country and style Wyoming after it. Iceland is a great start.
Seriously, America is the exception. Most countries are socialist to some degree. Nork is the closes thing to the classic 80s socialist dictatorships. Belarus is the distant second. Turkmenistan is a post-socialist kingdom, same as Chechnya.
>>
>>98703590
>I wouldn't be surprised if their owners straight up petitioned our manifestly corrupt president to leave their businesses alone.
Imagine how corrupt the other presidents were for allowing them all in through our southern border despite having the worlds most bloated military budget
>>
>>98702318
presumably you have read the source material socialist wyoming comes from?
wyoming is likely not so much functional rather the entirety of the united states is in complete dysfunction, which is the reason it exists.
considering it is isolated depopulated wyoming and a socialist rogue state surrounded completely by what is essentially capitalist overlordships, i imagine it is poor, extremely paranoid, and under perpetual siege mentality.
i would model it off of north korea or communist albania. hell, wyoming is actually home to a lot of old nuclear missile launch bases so north korea is probably pretty on point.
>>
>>98702382
Dude, every fucking time socialists take power they fuck everything up pushing they gay shit. Name one place that "socialist" and not a shit hole.

Face it, socialists is just fascists with a mask or their dumb little brownshirts. Same goes for commies, marxists, nazis, and whatever these fags are calling themselves these days. It's all the same gay shit in the end to me.
>>
>>98705961
What us Nordics have is just capitalism with a gigantic rate of taxation
It's just as nonfunctional as regular socialism with the current birth rate and economy

Just say the military doctrine is people's militia. Either that or say there is no difference between police and the military.
