I'm looking for ideas to fill out to make the journey more interesting. Not just tactical combat, not just social role play, but a combination. Things like skill checks, oddities and side quests, weather, and various other ideas. If you have some good random tables, general broad ideas or even campaign specific ones that could be inspiring I'd appreciate it.
>>98704898thank you.I'd like to get enough of these I can recycle a good number of them to reuse several general ones for more specific travel settings.Right now I'm working on a random encounter table that uses a deck of cards instead of a d100. The suits of the cards determine the relative theme of the event. That way it's not stacked up with one kind of thing only, and it makes an interesting way for the players to draw cards as they travel and have stuff happen.
I'd like to make a kind of generic one I can easily reuse.Like there will probably always be changes in the weather, or low medium, and high challenge encounters, or some kind of plot exposition, or some kind of survival exploration will thing in any environment.I have a few campaign/regional specific ones in mind, but the more reusable ones I can add to a generic editable deck of events the better.
>>98704863why d before each d100 roll result number?and where is 70 more?
I was gonna post the old (not-quite-complete) WFRP one I had, but then I remembered that they took away pdfs and they're not giving them back.
>>98707993I just found an image of a travel table as an example. I didn't make that, mine is a work in progress I'm trying to make good.I was hoping for good ideas, or knowledge about what works well and what doesn't.
>>98704938Originally, I was soft trolling by posting that one, but you're so polite now I have to actually deliver.
>>98708741Thank you very much either way.Sometimes it's hard to get traction on a thread going in /tg/ so I'm glad I didn't have to be the guy bumping his own thread. Those also look pretty useful, so I'm looking forward to working on my thing when I get home from work.Ideally the deck of cards will make a nice prop for drawing events, and the players will have some kind of general expectations based on the suit and card drawn (for example if spades are the combat suit then a 2 being low CR and a king being high or deadly CR).But the more inspirational material I can draw from the more I can fill out things like helpful weird or hazardous skill check or social encounters as well.
>>98704863D4 Caltrops 100 Wilderness Hexes has a page like this per hex. Good material with a variety of biomes. https://blog.d4caltrops.com/2018/03/wilderness-hexes-version-10.htmlThey have a lot of good tables in general.
Elf Maids and Octopi has a bunch of zines of setting specific tables, Shadleport has a lot of fantasy encounters, seasonal events and areas. Sort of the opposite direction of detail compared to D4 Caltrops, very sparse but I find has just enough to work with. https://elfmaidsandoctopi.blogspot.com/p/downloads.htmlThey also have a lot of good tables in general.
>>98708373>what works well and what doesn't.if simply taking result as is, table will get repetitive eventually, rather use it as starter for imagination processlike you rolled here "skeleton hanging from tree"neither it has to be skeleton (can be goblin if in goblin campaign), nor hanging (can be buried, laying etc), nor from tree (cage on chain, gallows)all depends in what players are situation, like why it is even here? some baddies hanged goblin as warning for others? or skeleton buried here is some murder victim?this way you expand table like hundredfold
I wish we could still upload pdfshttps://clst01.blob.core.windows.net/community-cdn/free-pdfs/1372-roadside-encounters.pdf
