Have you ever played in a game where you became emotionally attached to your character and party?
yep
I think it depends heavily on how good the rpers at the table are and how good at running a storyline that puts the players characters struggles in the spotlight the dm can do.
>>98705698I try not to, but sometimes I take a real liking to a character
Arent you tired of these spam threads? Im tired
>>98705698Yes, but because you guys lack any context, you won't get why I got attached and similarly I don't really care about characters of random 4channers.
>>98705755You could at least try to sell us on why you felt that way, anon.
>>98705698Isn't that like the default RPG experience?
>>98705821No. Lots of people play games where they care less about their characters.
>>98705778Tomorrow then, when I have energy to effort post.
>>98705821That depends how deadly and serious the campaign is.
>>98705698Why would you bother playing a game where you had no connection to the main characters in it? If you're not interested in how things turn out for them, why find out?
>>98705698Yep. Game ran for three and a half years and was probably the most satisfying campaign any of us have ever been part of. Still have some epilogues and side-stories wrapping up.
>>98705778OP could have elaborated on his own experiences too, but here we are.
>>98706120Love games like this.
>>98705698Never. I'm also in the process of purging myself of emotion entirely. It's already starting to work on most emotions but I am having a hard time purging anger.
>>98707980That sounds pretty gay.
>>98705778Ok, like I promised.I'm attached to the very first PC I've played as I think it's true for a lot of other people. It was also one of the longest campaigns, so it's not just primacy effect, but also because I was able to have a "character arc" of sort and the GM used the plot hooks provided for her backstory. One of the characters I'm playing in a ongoing campaign explores the theme of sibling rivalry and I can use my personal experiences to take inspiration from because of my close relationship with my brother. The PC's relationship is different, but he cares and I can relate to caring about one's sibling easily. One character is from a game set in the World of Darkness and those games put heavy emphasis on roleplay, so I got emotionally attached to her as she struggles to come to the terms that vampires are real (and they control the government). One character was a teenager that went through coming of age experience of sorts and it's also from a "story-game" so I got attached emotionally to his journey.Overall my attachment is function of how long I played the character, EXCEPT the PF2e.It's not just that PF2e focuses on combat, I'm playing in Mekton game and there's combat 95% of the sessions as well, but the PF2e campaign didn't really had anything to do with what my PC cared about, so he was mostly just going for a ride. I'm not complaining, I had fun, but the emotional attachment is lesser, it was very easy to switch to another character when PF2e was proposed.
>>98709734>95% of the sessionsYeah I feel like too much combat not enough RP stops this.
>>98710460Let me clarify: 95% of Mekton sessions contains combat, not that 95% of a session's duration is dedicated to combat.
>>98705698>a game where you became emotionally attached to your character and party?
>>98705698Emotional attachment is a feminine trait, and I don't have those and I don't want people who have those to be at my table. Toons are game pieces, nothing more.
>>98717195>ToonsTaking dicks up the ass is also a feminine trait but that never stopped you.
