Welcome to Mecha Monday! Here we dedicate ourselves to mecha RPGs, wargames, and boardgames alike. Here we start games, tell campaign stories, share resources & assets, and seek advice for our games and homebrew.Assorted Mecha Goodness:https://pastebin.com/E2wi55AZEmbryo Machine Translation:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1r_cjOLuUp3HussVRhbQYU3G0zK6hwy1rLancehounds Homebrew:M3g4 folder/eMEBUbCL#kj2FRrlqTa-02U16XpnVRgPrevious Thread: >>98346561Heavy Gear 4e adventures are now out to backers; Heavy Gear 4e is also on sale at Humble BundleQuestion of the Thread: Can you have too many guns on a mecha?Thread Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozOg9cluZuo
>QOTTThere are never enough guns. Picrel.Anyway, I've been working on a mecha ttrpg, is it fine for me to share it here once I have it in a more presentable state? Here's some of it's features:> focus on character and mech customization, the shape of the mech doesn't matter much, a gundam, a zoid and weirder machines use the same base rules> rules for kaijus and playable kaijus> enemies and players use the same rules and baseline, so stealing their stuff (or viceversa) can be done without any issue or homebrewing> out of robot rules, including robot vs pilot stuff> d100 dice, point buy system for mech and pilot creation> designed as setting agnostic, but with some premade ones for ease of play

Thoughts on the mecha hack?
I'm in the beginnings of creating a homebrew setting for some mech adventures. We are going experimental and try for a mixed system game:Lancer for the giant robot action and Stars Without Number for character and maybe ship combat if there's interest in it.My group and I are still in the general "what do we want to include" phase, and so far we've nailed only yes to aliens, both intelligent and not, and AI are a thing, although we are probably going to reflavor Lancer's NHPs to fit with kind of AI we end up going for.Personally I want to take advantage of all the worldbuilding tools SWN offers and create a sector of space the PCs can jump around in. I'm just wondering about how to not fall into the trap of making "Inner Sphere, but with aliens".Any settings you /mechm/aniacs could suggest to look at for inspirations?
Guns are cool and all, but have you considered adding a pile bunker to your arsenal?
Anyone excited for the votoms this season?
>>98715750I'm the same guy, just found out about aether nexus, what do you think about that?
>>98717224Not really. Don't care for the redesigns. I'm sure the techno thriller political philosophy Oshii directorial memes will be great, but they ruined the ATs.
>>98718614What’s wrong with hem?
>>98713149>TQNeverAfter I pay the Gundam tax, would /mechm/ rather see Xabungle, Dougram or Votoms added to the MechaStellar roster?
Are there any good mecha TG that got turned into good CRPGs?I was a big fan of the Gihren's Greed games.
>>98722573It's hell trying to find a good scifi CRPG, let alone a mecha crpg. But a man can dream
>>98722538Xabungle needs more love. Dougram and VOTOMs already have plenty of representation in BattleTech and Heavy Gear.
>>98723090Plus we need more mechs running around lobbing tactical missiles like they were footballs.
>>98722573To an extent the rework of the Mobile Suit Gundam Battle System could work for you. While its a ttbg at its core the option to level up suits and pilots in a campaign setting is cover in the book. It's nothing hella deep, though.
>>98725453>Mobile Suit Gundam Battle SystemThe UC Gundam setting would make a damn good Warhammer:40k/BattleTech tabletop/CRPG system.
>>98725709Its based off of 5th edition 40k. The original group had updates through 9th or 10th; but by then trying to get all the updates together and keep track of it all became chaos. The rework being done by a small group of autists makes it just its own self contained thing with room for some small expansions in the form of mobile armors, named characters and the Gyan(because they left it out of the original rules, maybe because it was a custom one off for M'Quve?). Its pretty darn decent. I'll link it here when they finally upload it on mega or something.
>>98726718>I'll link it here when they finally upload it on mega or something.cool. looking forward to it.
>>98722573>TQAll successful mecha have a Full Armor/Upgunned version (fanmade or official). Fact.
>>98730615yes
First mech done for E:OP
do we have a brigador tabletop game yet?
>>98716203something like starsectoroutlying cluster of a larger space empire cut off for generations by the unexplained collapse of long-range travel gatesyou get an authority faction loyal to the (possibly defunct) empire, and other local polities that have been around either since empire times or formed in the past few centuriesnobody knows if or when the empire will come back through the gates
>>98723090>>98723465Xabungle it is! >>98722573>>98725709MechaStellar also has a solo / co-op campaign mode, just uploaded the campaign a few days before the OCT monthly release. I had to remove all the space missions because that stuff isn't ready yet. But if you want a simple mission pack for a Zeonic Front or Gundam Senki kind of campaign it's perfect. You can also make custom missions too if you feel like tinkering. There's pilot progression where you can upgrade your Shooting, Melee, Evade, Morale etc. or purchase unique traits like Newtype or more mundane ones like Steel Resolve.Setting wise its around 0081 to allow you to use any GM variant you can think of while playing. Do well on missions and you'll have more points to requisition better GMs, Goufs, Doms etc.For Mech profile and core rules you can find em here: https://mechastellar.com/game-downloads/
>>98715750Mechanica are a bit too strongly coupled with its setting. Also, on-foot is very much an afterthought.
>>98713149Nevah enuff dakka!
Has anybody here tried the AC6 ttrpg? Is it any good?
Bump
Playing Ace Combat 8 really gave me new motivation to work on my system. It gave me refreshed idea on what the atmosphere I was going for needs.
>>98721554Yes
>>98751733It's okay Game died after two sessions
>>98767326Is it fluffy or crunchy?
>>98761210What a handshaking simulator?
>>98713149>Can you have too many guns on a mecha?Nah.
>>98768283What the hell is this slop gen supposed t9 be about?
>>98738753Why would anything good ever happen?
Got an idea for a post-apocalyptic mech-centered setting, even have some mechanics in mind but I'm not really familiar with any systems besides Battletech (not the right theme) and Heavy Gear 2e which at this point is really antiquated. How good are the vehicle design rules in 4e or are those out yet? I haven't really been paying attention to it because I know the older one so well. I'm always worried about newer editions because I'm almost always disappoitned with them.
>>98722538what are all those 80s gogo dancers doing hanging around the laser tank?
>>98773202Very good vehicle customization. While you can't build your vehicle from scratch, it would honestly hold no point any way.
>>98775545Aww. I really liked building them from scratch, I might stick with 2e. But I'm thumbing through 4e now and it does look good.Either way there's a glaring lack of rules for enduring cold weather in every edition, which is a problem because part of the setting idea is that the world is undergoing a plankton carbon apocalypse* so the world is slowly freezing over. I expect that will be mostly narrative but if someone has to eject or bail out and ends up in freezing temperatures and has to run back to base it'd be good to have some guidelines. I guess I'll just rip something outta GURPs and try to adapt it.(*Runoff of nutrients and phosphates into ocean after nuclear winter fades and light can again reach ocean causes hyperfertilization, huge overproduction of phytoplankton which sucks CO2 out of ocean, then dies and sinks because food chain already collapsed, burying CO2 at bottom of ocean. Ocean itself sucks CO2 out of atmosphere, inverting greenhouse effect and causing temp to lower ~6 degrees globally which is on par with the Last Glacial Maximum meaning the Holocene is officially ogre and most of the planet is going to be under ice sheets soon)
>>98775816>there's a glaring lack of rules for enduring cold weather in every editionEnvironmental rules are the weak point of almost every TTRPG, despite being a major contributor to feeling like your characters exist in a world instead of just being statblocks you shuffle between pre-written plot events.
>>98775901Fortunately I was able to conjure up a simple one, albeit with relatively little medical rigor. The premise for the campaign is that there was a nucelar war in 2088, which caused aforementioned nuclear winter followed by the carbon hollowing, so the planet is sliding into an ice age. A world-government style managerial state took over and began building huge geothermal-powered arcologies to house humanity while they try to fix the problem to avoid everyone freezing. However sticking billions of people of different ethnicities religions and culture in close quarters ended up causing a lot of friction and eventually a war inside the Arks, so they opened the gates and told dissidents to gtfo. Now it's an unknown amount of time later (maybe centuries) the world is freezing over, and these exiles have tried to set up survivable enclaves whereever they can, but resources are scarce, the only fuel left that most people can access is ethanol diesel which requires agriculture. Upside, giant robots used for construction and resource gathering were left behind and they can use mass-fabricators to make more, so wars have started over the remaining resources and arable land with giant robots. The Arks loom over the whole thing like silent monoliths, many have forgotten what they even are because they never communicate with the outside anymore.I think I'm going to run the actual campaign in California, with everyone starting off in fairly idyllic conditions in Northwest Canada, but then the first big wave of arctic wind sweeps through and everyone is either driven south or forced to adapt. Gonna let the players just sort of do what they want, have a whole bunch of increasingly whacky shit going on as they head down south, like Zeeatl (Seattle) being a feudal Duchy with mech pilots as knights, Frankfort (San Francisco) being a fortress hermit kingdom, and Japanese colonists having invaded and taken over Los Angeles, all with thematic giant robots. It'll be fun!
>>98738753God i hated the sequel so much, forced to play as some shitty nerd for hours in some kind of single player extraction shooter grindfest, death meant losing everything and you can only built some shitty cart with guns. Man i don't want to lose my mech and go back to nerd grinding for materials just to have another shot.
>>98777517Pretty sure they just added vehicle recovery.
>>98777574I'll wait for the full version to play instant-action mode or some kind of story where i'm not a hobo scavenging for scraps.Hobo grinding was never fun, many of the guns you got are just crap so I ended up just spam fist and save the good guns for the shielded mobs. Like 50 scraps to add....lights to your hobo base? what is this?
>>98775816The thing is, there's already an insane amount of variety when it comes to available gears n vehicles. And they're all statted in 4e.Since you can 'strip' all of them and customize them from their base point, it allows you to build basically anything you want as it is.
>>98775816>>98775901Funny enough, there's actually a pretty detailed system for that in 4e. It's part of a really wonky damage system, but it's there.
>>98777754Oh damn, where is it? Do you have a page? I tried searching for freezing and cold but I didn't see it.
>>98722538L-gaim.Nagano supremacy must be upheld at all times.
>>98778337These exact two aren't there, but the Damage Results section (page 85) has dedicated 'Dehydrated' and 'Starving' ones, which could be modified to do the stuff you're looking for quite easily.
>>98773830It was the style at the time :^)>>98779279You got it buddy. But until then, you'll have to settle for the Baund Doc>>98722573I had grand schemes for a Gihren's Greed module a couple of years ago and all you need is a Risk board. Basically, gets Europe and Zeon gets South America to start. Resource accrual is based on territory controlled. And a tech tree is added so you can't buy GM Sniper II's day 1 regardless of points. Mass Production of Big Zam's is encouraged.Downside is, I'm not too familiar with boardgames with a good space map to represent granada, colonies, etc. What do you all think?
>>98780411>Baund DocAckshually that's a Kobayashi thing, along with The-O and the Marasai. We do have the Qubeley and Hyaku-Shiki to fill that Nagano-shaped hole, though.
>>98776448...So Forever Winter?
>>98780807I bring my great shame upon my familyI will marathon rewatch L-Gaim & 5 Star Stories in compensation>Rick Dias>Hyaku Shiki>Hambrabi>ArgamaNagano is responsible for 3 of my top 5 Zeta designs
>>98782630>Qubeley not part of your top 5Shameful.Nagano is one of the goated mechanics that's been shoved aside as the industry weirdo for his obsessive work on FSS/Gothicmade.Had he remained in the hegemonic mecha sphere, today's panorama would be considerably different. But such is the way of the good mech designer, they either get consumed by a strange obsession or devolve into genericness.>Nagano lost himself in obsessively perfecting his story to the point he's become shit off from the world.>Kobayashi became a conspiracy theorist and spends his days on fitter rambling about war nonsense.>Kondoh outright disappeared from the surface of the earth a decade ago.>Yokoyama is MIA, supposedly also lost building the MaK universe without really taking it anywhere beyond plamo>Fujita has been MIA for years>Okawara lost his magic and has been dropping slop for a good 20 years now>Katoki went from genuinely innovative to generic shitBleak times.
>>98784718>QuebeleyI can see why people love it, but I prefer Gaplant, Hambrarbi and Palace Athene tbqh>Kondoh disappeared a decade agoI will fell geniune sorrow if he never comes back, love everything he does>We mass produced the Sazabi for an earth invasionSasuga
