Instead of this unique guy we get a new generic tamer hero.

I kinda hope we get duardin demigods or something. The ancestors had kids. It's kind of baked into the "ancestors" concept. And AoS is lacking in demigods. For some reason the gods don't shit out many kids in the Mortal Realms.
>>
>>98714441
I'm actually genuinely surprised that there's never really been a dwarf grenadier unit. Basically works for any flavour of dwarf too.
>>
>>98714416
That is/was my plan, it's a pity the kit got re-released for WHFB in a sense because it's now considerably more expensive since it's somehow driven up bits prices, I might have to look into casting some myself (especially to convert some chariots). I just genuinely hadn't realised how ugly gruntas were until I saw some in person recently, I thought the scheme and photos online made them look worse than they actually are but they're somehow even worse. I have zero intention of ever trying to play the army, I just think it would be a neat hobby project.
>>
>>98714317
I responded before realizing there was a new thread
>>98714445
Also adding that maybe the thrones with the bare plinths are relatively new and the belief is something like “it reminds us of the shame we feel for our fallen brothers” or they could even lie about an Ancestor “killed” by Chaos.
All in all, I think Dwarves have been given a really interesting hand in AoS and I really love the “Prometheus but a lie” angle for Hashut.

>>98714454
Agreed. People say "oh well you can't do a slayer army because they're just part of a larger dwarf army" but GW just never even really tried. People happily make whole armies of slayer units for WHF and they look like this lol
Fyreslayers just had the problem of being designed very early, and then never really given much of an aesthetic beyond "slayers but more decorated". There are other factions which suffered similarly to this, like Bloodbound, but GW already had an extant identity for khorne, which carried them.
>>
>>98714478
in 40k yeah but AoS priests are entirely different with ritual points, nogames fren
>>
>>98714483
Generic demigod unit/commander could be interesting if it was handled somewhat like the dragon blooded in TOW. It's weird because I like fantasy but the cathay stuff there with the dragon emperor and the dragon children and then the children having a ton of children of their own is interesting, but doesn't fit fantasy. Would fit right into AOS so it's a shame they didn't do something similar, especially because ATM khazalites are suffering from them not having much identity beyond being fantasy dwarfs transposed into AOS. When the literal fantasy dwarf models were transposed into AOS for Cities, the lore was a lot more weird and varied which I like, miss that era
>>

>>98714494
>GW just never even really tried
This is the future Sisters of Battle faced and they escaped the vicious cycle of “no one buys this faction so it doesn’t get model support and because it doesn’t get model support no one buys it” because GW acted on it. They’re the only ones that can change the fate of a faction. Unless they really considered a bunch of heroes, a side game unit, terrain and endless spells as actual support.
>>
>>98714551
Sisters are criminally underrate & GW are fools for not pushing them over lazily "trying" to shove in female custodes. Also they still suck at female face sculpts.
>>
>>98714517
The main writer for TOW(JTY) has a Battle March Army of just Slayers, which isn't much but shows there was interest inside GW for just Slayers
>>98714528
I think Kevin still works at GW, he was handpicked by Blanche when he retired.

>>
>>98714551
>>98714560
Sisters were only pushed to counter sexism accusation and after that didn't work they pivoted to custodes
>>
>>98714573
And they put no effort into custodes so nothing came from them but a shitty animation. Now they're actively trying not to push them with female heads with the new kits.
>>
>>98714494
>People say "oh well you can't do a slayer army because they're just part of a larger dwarf army"
I'm one of those people.
Slayers are a niche part of wider dwarf culture. They should have never been split into their own standalone faction. It would have been infinitely more interesting to see how different permutations of dwarf culture handle slayers (i.e. Kharadron or Helsmiths having their own take on slayers that's slightly different from traditional slayers).
Chorfs in Fantasy used to have this with a infernal guard. Unlike regular traditional dwarf slayers, infernal guard could actually be redeemed and rejoin chorf society - which makes sense in the context of their smaller numbers making individual chorf lives more valuable.

If my memory isn't totally fucked, I vaguely recall GW attempting to make slayers their own independent thing in Fantasy for a time. There were rules and lists for it, but it never really went anywhere because - again - they're kinda pigeonholed into their niche.
I'd like to see more god-themed stuff, like they seem to being doing with this new dwarf range, to some degree. Combining the FS into the new dwarf faction and transitioning them into more of a general Grungni-centric wing would go a long way to help them out.
>>
>>98714583
? The new kits also include female bodies, in fact the female bodies aren't optional parts of the kit which made some people very mad (all custodes fans deserve this punishment for their bad taste)

>the vicious cycle of “no one buys this faction so it doesn’t get model support and because it doesn’t get model support no one buys it”
>Cries in Dark Eldar
My biggest fear for any faction in AoS is the fate of the Dark Eldar. They're three subfractions in a trenchcoat, and none of them get the attention they need. Hell, what's worse is that even if they did, I'm not sure modern GW even understands the faction anymore - going off how they handled that fucking awful Lady Malys model.
I play DoK and HH, and while the HH range is still too small and too new to say for certain yet, the blood hags release for DoK has me worried. It's not a duel build kit, like most of the kits in the range, and it totally fucks up the aesthetics and spirit of the faction.

You could kind of sidestep this issue by leaning into the "savage dwarfs" theme they had going in with this particular warcry guy and the use of magmadroths in general. Would kind of move them from "slayers but an army" into "exodites but fantasy dwarfs".
That's been my daydream fyreslayer project for a while now but fuck would it require some greenstuff effort that I don't have the skills for yet.
>>98714621
Kevin has been hard carrying dwarfs at GW for 15+ years now
>>
>>98714654
Yes because companies would never lie especially in business. Marvel? Oh every new series, that gets cancelled within 12 issues, is definitely making tons of sales with "new" characters grifting all the originals. Just completely ignore what actual local comic book stores in every state are saying about both products shelfwarming.
>>
I really don’t like this appeal towards realism that models have nowadays. Even the old world has it baked in now, I thought they would at least stick to 28mm heroic scale. I fucking dread a dryad refresh as abysmal as the kit is to assemble.

Soon

Would war machines work? Either units absed on smoke, fumes and other volcano-related things and/or Grimnir's children like Morgrim who's an engineer. Get a giant lava-slewing rune golem.
>>
>>98714663
Anon, that's fraud. Kevin rountree is not risking prison time over fucking custodes.
When a product underperforms they simply don't mention it in their financial reports, OR they comment on the (subjective) quality of the miniatures themselves. See also darkwater in the latest report.
>>
>>98714694
Both are true and it’s not fraud. GW sells the kits to stores by the case load. That is positive sales. Then those stores sit on product that doesn’t sell. GW doesn’t give a shit about that when reporting to shareholders
>>
>>98714592
>GW attempting to make slayers their own independent thing in Fantasy for a time

I mean, as much as you could. I never played fantasy but considering there was like a whole chunk of slayers (dragon, giant, demon, the goblin hewer, various heroes) but not sure if it was a stand alone thing.

I figure as long as Fyreslayers aren't just out of the universe and still around I'll be happy. I didn't want to play the army because it was barely supported and while the models were cool I generally would have just wanted a hero here or there I'm fine with them kinda getting folded into a new thing and giving them some room to grow.
>>
>>98714639
>I like the Malys model
I'm not trying to be a dick, but legitimately how?
They took the second most powerful individual in Commorragh - someone who is known for subterfuge and seduction - and slapped her in basic bitch Archon armour. Insult to injury, her face doesn't even look like that of a Dark Eldar. Hell, it doesn't even look like a regular Eldar - just some basic generic fantasy elf (the shadowheart comparisons aren't for no reason).
GW has TWO lhamaean (or lhamaean-like) models to use as a reference point. It's wild they fucked up this bad.

>>98714659
I'd be fine with the blood hags, from a visual standpoint, if they were low initiates to a coven. You'd run them in units of 20 and they'd function like chaff - a dual build kit for spears and bows, combined with their above average armour, would indicate them as less experienced. However, that's not what they are.
They're supposed to be some of the most elite units a coven can bring to bear - which makes absolutely no sense in the
treats getting naked and killing people without taking injury as both a flex and as worship.

nothing gets squatted

the 3 "caster" heroes get reboxed so they're sold as the same unit (can be fielded as a lone model or a unit of 3 models) with no specific rules for the 3 types unless they're together
the 3 melee heroes get reboxed so they're sold as the same unit (can be fielded as a lone model or a unit of 3 models) with no specific rules for the 3 types unless they're together
1 box of vulkites, 2 boxes of hearthguards, the banner, and the underworlds band, get reboxed so they're sold as one unit (either fielded as 5 vulkites and 5 heartguards together as one unit with different weapons, or 10 vulkites and 10 hearthguards together with different weapons, or 14 vulkites and 10 hearthguards and a runechampion) with no way to field vulkites or hearthuard as separate units

one of the new kits is a centerpiece model ridden by special characters on special larger magmadroth, 3 builds
>bael grimnir, extremely ancient magmadroth head option
>baeldottir, extra frilled magmadroth head option belching lava
>generic build, "balesson", extra horned magmadroth head option

the second new kit is a generic caster (female) on a monstrous (but no droth sized) wyvern-pterosaur with 4 or 6 wings

flamekeepers receive a brother unit, models with the same overall design but with no specialists, instead they have multiple hound sized droths, and a different mix of weapons instead of great weapons, a mix of javelins, throwing axes, axes, picks, bucklers, round greatshields, the entire unit must either be built as having a mix of throwing weapons and melee weapons, or a mix of melee weapons with shields without throwing weapons, this latter built has optional fully covering helmets of various designs and asymmetrical pauldrons, the champion comes with a cape
>>
>>98714757
they're not really hurting aside from the consistent awful rules that has plagued destruction.
>>
>>98714662
I mean, that's fine for a one-off or a /your dudes/ theme, but I don't think it works to flesh out an entire range. It's still pigeonholed by the nature of slayers.

>>98714748
It was never a standalone thing in Fantasy, but there was this weird time (around 6ed or 7ed) where it look like it might be. Again, I only vaguely remember it but there was a push with a lot of slayers themed shit for a while.
>>
>>98714776
At least Ogors are fun.

Though as someone with an SoB army I am very depressed at the gimping of my army.
>>
>>98714751
I mean, that’s just the style of Dark Eldar armor. Hers has a few more accents to help differentiate it such as the high collar, big hip plates with a dress, the plated tail along the back. I think her face is a good female sculpt for once. The veil option looks really nice on her, too. But if I were the EM painter I would’ve made her paler and done black eyes. Maybe my reasons won’t be enough for you, but I can say I don’t hate the model but know it could’ve been better, but I also think they had to make sure she didn’t look too much like Yvraine either.
>>
>>98714773
the 4th new kit is a chariot pulled by a some weird boar-tortoise, it's ridden by priests of the zharr cult similar in look to the priest on magmadroth, but with beaked masks, and the chariot has the option of carrying a funerary pyre where they collect spent ur-gold, or a runic statue that's like the tip of the weapon of ranged hearthguards, which acts as a magic magma spewing mortar, or with nothing at all behind, to be taken in units of multiple models or as reinforcing elements to one of the other 2 types, if it's built in this simpler way the leftover magma spewing statue can be assembled as a stationary artillery piece, and similarly the pyre as well, the pyre has has an anvil on it and acts as upgrade and complementary part to the battleforge scenery piece, you can have multiple statues as artillery pieces but having multiple pyres/anvils does nothing, you can upgrade your one forge with one such pyre
>>
>>98714790

not quite the high point of 3rd edition with 72 wound squig herds, but they can get by.

same as always, their army trait is awful, gits players can almost ignore the first 3 pages of their rules section. the army rules are janky, the artifacts and traits are mid worse versions of better artifacts and traits from previous editions, and the spell lore fucking SUCKS, despite them being an army than can field 12 wizards in a list they dont have anything good to cast.

moonclan hordes do pretty much what they've always done, although fanatic tricks and netters arent as good as they used to be, they're much more limited.

squig shit and troggs carry the army on their shoulders. boingrot bounders are point for pound one of the highest damage units in the game, while troggs are one of the toughest. squigs are fast and high damage but cant hold a point. troggs are slow and have a small footprint but can hold a point for days.

spiders are.....just forget about spiders okay? GW clearly did

wolfshit is infinitely manueverable, but with an utter lack of damage and middling debuff and utility options, they end up being little more than cheap dodgy speed bumps, they arent going to tear shit up like squigs, but their shooting is also not good so they cant be a great skirmishy unit like elven windchargers or something. but they're cheap. if you need cheap dependable (non random movement) speed, this is where you look.

sadly though they cant seem to find a point cost low enough for manglers to actually be good with that new dogshit warscroll. its dropped 100pts so far and still not good.

>>98714472
It's just a simple mechanic. If you're question this, are you going to question how the Ogres' eat mechanic works on Starborne Seraphon, Nighthaunt and Daemons? How do they eat something that either burns you with pure starlight of Azyr magic, something made up of death magic or something made of chaos magic? Answer; don't question it. You have to make some rule based, mechanic based and lore compromises. Otherwise you'd have to say 'Unless they are STARBORNE SERAPHON, NIGHTHAUNT OR DAEMON KEYWORDS'. Then you got the issue on daemons having a physical form that persits even after they're killed (models have daemon bits) or where the lore says they disappear when the chaos power has been weakened in the area. Again, you gotta handwave a lot of stuff. Same with Greater Daemons or Daemon Primarchs in 40k. They can only exist when the power of warp is strong but unless you justify that every fight by going 'err this is just a small part of a big battle' or 'this is what was there to try and stop it' you gotta either assume there is some major chaos rift going or it's just the way it is.

So is it actually true that AoS spaces are more friendly to queer lifestyles, or are all Games workshop scenes more or less similar?

I've been getting the nostalgia bug lately and trying to get into a GW game, but every time i've been to the WH40K gamenight the people there can't help but subtly mock me for speech/voice/wardrobe etc. I'm literally not wearing anything that you wouldn't see at a generic pride parade. It's funny that people get bothered by a studded collar/leash when there are literally models in their game wearing the same.

At any rate, I'd like to try the AoS gamenight next and see if the reception for newcomers is a little warmer.

No? No particular space is any nicer than the rest. It's about your local scene and the people who inhabit it. People will always be angry at something. If you don't stink and aren't forcing shit on people, most people won't care. If you get called 'he' or whatever pronoun you don't like, as long as you don't lecture them and let it slide, nobody will care. Yes, social interaction when you're LGBTQIA+ goes both ways, you're not immune to your obligation in the social contract. If somebody is 'deadnaming you' or pronoun shaming you or w/e, you can be reasonable about it, not a cunt. I know trans people and while they would prefer their pronouns, I've never seen them rage when being called 'he'. But maybe they will now. Who knows.

There was a dude who said seraphon were getting endless spells, a new oldblood, and new saurus guard. Notably he was not one of the usual leakers, and since his other main rumour was that slaanesh would get a slaangor as pity hero he isn't considered credible.
The coatl rumour comes from boole, who has previously also said tetaxi would NOT be riding one, but something more akin to a ripperdactyl which is basically what we got. He is, however, claiming we will see actual coatls soon™. It's been mentioned before that seraphon will have a major part to play in the end of edition campaign, and they're one of the more likely candidates to get some releases accompanying that.

Yeah some random user popped up and said
>We have this info from a new user, which is not a proven source: Saurus old Blood, Saurus guard and 3 endless spells, one of them the swarm
And it was kept on the 'leak' page for about a month or two before it got removed, no particular reason stated but presumed the user was just bullshitting since they either stopped posting leaks or was deleted or something. Popped around the time The Last World shit was happening, but didn't post anything interesting. Claimed they had seen a sprue they thought was a 'Slaangor hero'. I think that was in response to that HoS model with the head helmet animal thing.
>>
>>98714940
I think Boole said the other day that the coatl is still coming later. Don’t quote me on it, though,
>>
>>98714790
The problem with her design is that it doesn't actually tell you anything about the character. Yeah, she has the fan and the veil if you use that head, but the rest doesn't exactly scream master seductress or spy master.
Yvraine and the actual Lhamaean model are what I was referencing before when I said GW already did similar things. They had solid blueprints for "high Lady of Commorragh" and they opted for "marginally different basic bitch Archon".
And yeah, the Malys face isn't bad, in and of itself, but it's bad for a Dark Eldar. You can paint it paler, but that still doesn't make the underlying structure of the face more Eldar-like.
>>
>>98714847
I do, he's barred me a dozen times but I'm a master of disguise
>>
>>98714944
They'd previously claimed slaanesh would get a slaangor hero but of course we got the lord of hysteria instead. Dude tried to cope about it saying he saw the sprue and it looked like a slaangor, but it was quite obvious he was bullshitting, which is probably why he was taken of the list.
Tga is fun and all but there's really only 3 guys who actually know shit; boole and both whitefangs. To a lesser extent there's also nezzhil and ejecutor but that's mainly smaller stuff like underworlds or release dates. Occasionally you'll get somebody like reformation popping in with all new rumours (and in his case straight up leaked pics) but mostly it's just these three guys.
Tga being tga you also get a fair amount of accounts looking for attention starting "rumours" which are mostly just kind of reasonable guesses (like the aforementioned slaangor hero). There's this one dude who has been posting shitty fake rumours for like half a year and keeps getting proven wrong, but the users there keep taking the bait and giving him attention like he knows something. Pretty funny because this annoys the fuck out of the dude who compiles all the rumours and keeps telling the others not to engage with this obvious fraud but it never works kek.
>t. Phd in rumours

>>98714868
its mostly a fun army, as long as you dont dwell too much on the stuff thats annoying like the army rules. its one of those armies where the majority of the gameplay is on the warscrolls, it doesnt play much out of the front of the book if that makes sense, and a lot of its value and strength on the table comes from fielding either shitloads of dudes, shitloads of attacks, or shitloads of toughness, and just burying your opponent under sheer weight of bodies and dice.

it has some tricks, but they often end up being more expensive and random, not worth the points when every 100pts gets you another 20 goblins or 10 squigs on the table, so you dont need a ton of crazy interactions to make the army work like some of the elven armies. you just need a ton of dudes.

Don't argue with me. As for his other claims, he has pending and if they're wrong they're wrong and it'll go down. We haven't had the 5th starter yet so we can't say he is wrong, he might be, but not yet.

This score is based on his one post on TGA which was
>Nurgle will get some stuff about HoH
Which turned out to be true, so he's 1/1. So, 100%. His stuff which hasn't been confirmed either way are
>New Nagash model
>Vampires vs SCE starter set
>New Skirmish game
>>
>>98715058
Just checked, kind of a shitty system.
For examples whitefangs "misses" are that he claimed tempests' eye (and more cities) would be destroyed, and they consider this wrong since it didn't happen in the CoS tome.... but he's obviously hinting at TLW rumours here, so shouldn't those also be considered pending?

I mean we know even in lore Ogres can eat stuff that couldn’t logically be eaten, it’s just apart of their gimmick/magic, but the rest is true
>>
>>98715058
So technically I could say anything and have a 100% accuracy rating is what you're saying until proven wrong.

So if next edition the starter set isn't vamps vs SCE and a new Nagash he's at 0% accuracy. Also wouldn't counter claims from other people make someone wrong since the new starter set is supposed to be chaos vs stormcast (or cities who fucking knows at this point) so technically he's already wrong...

Nta but you'd have to have one correct rumour to be on the board so to speak.
If he's wrong about vampirates (he will be) he'll be at 50%
Rumours contradict each other, but technically either one could be true. However, considering the track records of the people involved, his shitty rumour is all but confirmed to be wrong. But technically it's not actually confirmed yet.
>>
>>98714473
Primarchs are cool but I agree we don’t really need any equivalents in AoS, stuff like the CP is close enough. That said, I do kind of wish we had more godly conflicts in general, you read about stuff like Grimnir creating gouges thousands of miles wide and deep in his fight with Vulctraix and it’s hard not to want more stuff like that… though I kind of get why some people aren’t fond of it.

It’s time for a creative exercise, anons.
By a twist of fate, GW has contracted (You) to write the End of Edition campaign that leads into The Last World or a scenario of a similar concept.
The following guidelines must be maintained:
>The Realms must be made into one(1) world/plane/celestial body
>None of the current 8 realms can be excluded from being a part of this new world
>No faction or grand alliance is allowed a clear and substantial victory
>Physically active gods must be moved to a more passive role, one that severely limits their physical presence among their followers and in battle, usually only able to manifest via eidolons or a similar method
>No gods can die, but they can be rendered absent to their followers
>Whatever is done with gods must either maintain or replace their currently available model, no squatting
>No playable faction can be eliminated
Hard mode: Preserve one or more named mortal characters
Dante must die mode: Make it good
So, anon. How would (You) usher in the next edition?
>>
>>98715330
Aw shit this is easy I'm stealing various bits from other posts and myself!

>The Realms must be made into one(1) world/plane/celestial body

Azyr is invaded by Chaos who takes the core of Malus to the 8 points, Sigmar in an effort to reclaim is uses some magical thingy to have the core IMPLODE sucking in chunks of realms through the realm gates into the 8 points collapsing onto it. Azyr is practically gone as a single realm and broken up. All factions must evacuate the eight points or various other spots or are sucked into the collapsing star. The various winds of magic and energies coalesced into a large new world. (This is your new planet, the realms still exist but chunks are torn out and now basically exist on this new centralized location. Realm gates no longer function properly due to this catastrophic event so anyone stuck on the planet is stuck there barring methods of transportation.)

>No faction or grand alliance is allowed a clear and substantial victory

Easy for death and destro because uhh... They just don't get those. But Chaos and Order are both relatively in shambles, chunks of the realms they inhabited are gone, Sigmar's main base is gone, Chaos's main base is gone so neither side particularly won and instead it's more losses.

>Physically active gods must be moved to a more passive role, one that severely limits their physical presence among their followers and in battle, usually only able to manifest via eidolons or a similar method

Nagash is already like that, he effectively stays in Shyish sending out avatars to do shit(which per Soul Wars he already does), Sigmar and Archaon had a big fuckoff battle not necessarily killing them but both are MIA (another thing like the end times with them fighting it out in space, WHO KNOWS WHERE THEY COULD BE) Alarielle and Morathi can just do avatar shit (Morathi already basically has that)

>>
>>98715406
>who’s eating them

>>
>>98715406
Spoilers for the first book: the MC is approached by a crazy warrior lady who thinks he's chosen by Khorne, who she worships in the aspect of the Godeater. Because he's trying to lead an uprising against Sigmarite colonizers, he adopts the moniker Godeater's Son because it sounds cool and marketable. At the end of the novel he learns that the Godeater is not Khorne at all, but Archaon.

The factions don't necessarily need to change though I imagine cities, chaos, and other factions that actually have CITIES themselves will need some touch ups. I reckon we'll get a time skip (who knows if the magic of this event made various characters immortal or if Malus has some weird shit with all the winds of magic coiling into it, time tends to be weird, some folks live for longer, it's very different than the various realms themselves)

The gods don't have direct access to the worlds in the same way (due to realmgates fizzling out), they can send avatars but now are primarily focused on fixing up their various realms so they can't put full focus down on events. The way I'm assuming important characters or things got sucked in would be a big massive fuckoff end of campaign battle with everyone trying to go to the eight points to stop Chaos (or following other people or being commanded by gods to do so) so all your big names will be there for whatever reason. (With chaos it's easy, everyone else probably needs a bit more justification)

Now you've got your immortal realms, and the "New World" or whatever bullshit you wanna call it. We could timeskip a few years to the point of factions having set boundaries, cities, and a new status quo. Chaos hasn't united since Archaon has fucked up (haven't figured out what to do with his model but could be they summon effectively an "avatar of Archaon" or be'lakor has some fuckass pretending to be him)

I do still enjoy Order, Destro and Death working together to some extent so I'd have them all be neighboring and it's less about factional alliances and more about the realms you initially came from. You still have your alliegences but culturally you're gonna be more understanding to someone from Shyish than say, some dickhead from Chamon. The old alliances have come together a bit more since the gods aren't as active in being dickheads to fuck with things, but this has also lead to much more internal strife!

>>
>>98715330
the problem with this exercise is that I don't dislike what the rumors have been saying so far except for malerion getting allegedly corrupted by slaanesh which I seriously hope it's some exaggeration or hyperbolic fuckup

so I'll just add random parts I want in addition to what's been suggested by those rumors
>the parts of the realms that don't become part of the last world still exist but only in the form of highly volatile atolls and subrealms scattered through space, accessible via realmgates and needing to be traversed to go from one gate to another sometimes (think an overgrown webway)
>these pieces of the realm are arranged like enormous planetary discs around the last world, between these discs can sit moons and minor celestial objects
>the main satellites of the last world are mallus, with the corpse of dracothion on it and its surface split so it trails energies sometimes, the erratic bad moon, the ethereal lunaghast and the orb duplicita who rarely let themselves be seen, and 8points, which sits stationary at the north pole
>orcs are the ones who break chaos' siege of azyr and give an unexpected moment of respite for the final pushback and gambit
>destruction reaches azyr by riding the realm of ghur, kragnos fractures the realm of beasts in half with its earthquaking rampage and the two halves of the realms are like hinging jaws that literally bite into azyr, this kills dracothion that bleeds thousands of little egg-comets that give birth to its last descendants
>alarielle is not diminished or killed as a deity but she has to channel most of her powers into the oak of (the last) ages so that its roots can literally hold together the foundations of the world
>other gods have similar megastructures or vital processes to tend to with their magical powers
>chaos manages to reach azyr not by sheer bruteforce or by picking up again the varanite plot, but by making a deal with both skaven and hashutites
>>
>>98715656
>the eshin assassin that established the secret tunnels into azyr is the one who got a model and did everything else like blowing up the black pyramid
>the black pyramid is blown up again by the way, in the new world the pieces of the pyramid make separate smaller irregular structures scattered all over, which the ossiarchs establish cities around, and nagash won't be back to full power until the pieces are magically connected to one another or physically put back together, the biggest piece is the shyish nadir at the south pole of the world
>chaos tries to use ignax against dracothion during the siege but the fyreslayers activate the rune left in it and wrestle it away from archaon's control
>when the last world forms ignax will be chained to act as its sun, its first capture was in fact a trial run for this project
>mallus was supposed to sit at the center of the last world and power it, but the project was interrupted by chaos, the lizards intervened by using a lot of their own ships and the slann powers, and kroak's, to establish a makeshift high-tech heart core that supports the world instead of mallus, this strains the lizards a lot, but also it creates a conveniently jurassic hollow earth
>the dwarfs were sigmar's greatest allies in the construction of this enormous joining of the realms and the new realm comes with pillars, chains and tunnels of dwarf making for its intersections deep underground, the one realm that didn't receive those is ghur because hashut turned his back on the gods before the plan was completed, except ghur still clicked together like the others, so hashut must have done the minimum at the very least, without telling anyone
>>
>>98715677
Oh shit are you going with my idea from various threads on "the last world" being a pseudo arc built by Order as a means to escape the chaos and have a secret little spot built together?
>>

>>
>>98715708
I'm relatively sure that was the canonical plan to begin with, either a place safe from chaos or a place safe from chaos because it also cages down chaos, but obviously that can't be the case, even though it would also be cool if at the center of the engine inside the hollow earth there was the one direct permanent connection to the realm of chaos and daemons have to be summoned or push through lizards to reach the last world by emerging from faults in the ground
you know, like coming out of hell
>>
>>98715742
I think last thread (or the one before it) I saw someone mention the idea of the realms collapsing and getting sucked into the 8 points basically blowing up Chaos' main form of assault so the idea of a more level playing field (again) against Chaos seemed fun. A fresh start where each faction is setting down, less organization on the bad guys end and the good guys are ready to fight back.

The tournament scene is irrelevant?
The GHB came out a year after launch, most people weren't diving into the 2k mindset from day 1 like they're forced to nowadays so AoS' scenario driven play was fine for what was lower point games - battalions Vs battalions.
People overstate matched play autism. I played for about a year (?) before BCR launched and I shifted to points just using sourbreaths and greenskinz. It was a dice game anyway so the balance autism didn't come up honestly but people weren't dropping what would be 5k SCE Vs 1k armies either because common sense and game time.

I'd require five new kits but one would be a vulkite refresh so I feel like that has some leeway.
>kit 1
Vulkite refresh in the style of the warcry warband, so slightly more armoured, better poses, etc. Pretty straightforward
>kit 2
Again taking cues from the warband, turn the drothblood thane >>98714662 into a whole unit. Covered in droth scale/skin, more savage and draconic, etc. Make it a dual kit too. One build option with the dual fang-hammer/pick things, one build with essentially the fyreslayer version of ogre ironfists. Again, make them savage.
Keeping the hearthguard as is, we end up with three infantry units with a relatively distinct aesthetic each. We have the hearthguard in "classic" naked fyreslayer style, the new vulkites in a kind of more (half-)armoured thing, and finally the drothbloods going full native with droth larp and more savage weapons.
Anyway, that's the infantry done, now on to the special units. We're going full Droth
>kit 3
Kyndledroth riders. Pretty straightforward again, the long-requested droth cav. Make them mid-sized, maybe slightly bigger than the new named hero one. They'd be your standard 3 man "monstrous cavalry" unit. Two build options, one is normal offensive variant with lances or halberds, the other would be valkyrie support version, riders looking like picrel with branding irons which could apply runes (i.e. buffs) to your own units on the fly.
>>
>>98716739
>kit 4
Droth chariot/warmachine hybrid thing, again using slightly larger kyndledroths attached to some kind of warmachine on wheels. First build option would be a flamethrower thing, with big bellows in the back spraying the fire over the droth. Second version would be a ballista launching the long javelins present on the runeson droth kit. Both versions would have a gun shield shaped like grimnir's face, in a similar vein to how the kharadron ironclad has grungi's face. The flamethrower/ballista should be launching shit out of his mouth, almost like grimnir himself is breathing fire etc. You know those fire chariot head guys from elden ring? Kind of like that, picrel with a droth pulling it. In game terms would probably function somewhat similar to spawn of chotec. Maybe faster.
>kit 5
Alright we've arrived at our obligatory centrepiece unit. Like how khazalids took the throne of power and upped it to 11 I'd do the same for the anvil of doom. The actual anvil is placed on some type of wheeled juggernaut/temple structure, with a high runepriest ready to strike a rune. He should have some crazy big beard. Anyway, the juggernaut is pulled by either 2 or 3 of the aforementioned kyndledroths, or maybe a slightly different looking full magmadroth if you could fit it. Can also have an alternate build for a named priest or something like the boat and chorf taurus, but I don't really care

Wish I was at my pc to make some shitty ms paint mockups for this stuff. Fun little brainstorm exercise.

I can easily believe this being the case locally in certain stores or regions, but I believe on a company-wide level this is pretty much an urban myth.
>new armies, new models
It had been a while since fantasy got an entirely new army (daemons splitting off in 7th I guess?) but they got a pretty steady stream of model releases, I don't think that was ever really the problem. Quantity-wise, at least.

>>
>>98716994
Yeah, I guess DoK are in an ever weirder position with like a dozen kits in total. I think the specter of Old World Dark Elves looming over them will ultimately decide their fate.
>>
>>98716965
No. Idoneth have a larger level of fandom already. There are secondaries who like the funny crab. Fyreslayers never had that. Souping factions feels a lot like giving up, when there's so many ideas that can still be done.
>>
Tzeentch and slaanesh are very lucky they're considered a "core part" of warhammer by now so they never get included in these type of discussions
>>98717046
Eh I don't think dark elves are a problem for dok since they only really have the original witch elf kit + the cauldron kit in common, and both of those have older versions tow could use (like how e.g. night goblins or the treeman are handled atm)
The real shadow (heh) looming over DoK is malerion's army.
Man, considering all the souping that have happened (and will in all likelihood happen for DoK) I wonder how many original 1st edition battletomes are still left unsouped (or squatted in the case of Bonnesplitterz)
>>
>>98716748
those guys were cooler than the game deserved
>>
>>98717116
>I wonder how many original 1st edition battletomes are still left unsouped (or squatted in the case of Bonnesplitterz)
Alright so going by lexicanum AoS 1e had 22 battletomes. However 3 of those were meme ones (everchosen, chaos dreadholds, chaos dominions) that don't count. Additionally stormcast had 2 extra tomes, as well as khorne having one extra. Effectively, we had 22-6= 16 actual different armies with a tome of their own. Their fates are as follows:
>souped
-fyreslayers (into khazalite holds)
-pestilens (into skaven)
-ironjawz (into orruk warclans)
-beastclaw raiders (into ogor mawtribes)
>un-souped
-legions of nagash (into SBGL, NH, OBR)
>squatted
-bonesplitterz (though first souped into warclans)
>survived
-stormcast
-khorne
-seraphon
-flesh-eater courts
-sylvaneth
-tzeentch
-kharadron overlords
-nurgle
-daughters of khaine
-idoneth
So for anyone keeping score, that's 10 survivors out of 16, with 4 souped, 1 unsouped, and one straight up squatted. Though I think next edition that list will have 9 survivors and 5 souped.

We've been doing it at page 8 since forever. It's only lately that we've started doing it at page 9 because the board has become slower

It’s been exceptionally fast lately though. These threads also haven’t really slowed down and are probably easily in the top 3 fastest generals on this board.
>>
>>98717251
>These threads also haven’t really slowed down
We're currently at about ~140 generals since the start at the year, which is actually very consistent with 2025 which was around the same number in the same period (january 1 - september 22).
However, in 2024 we were already at 243 posts. In 2021, peak covid time, we were at a staggering 679 posts! Same patterns hold for most of the other generals, /wfg/ was more active back when it was a literal dead game compared to now.
I do agree we've had a nice burst of activity lately, even before last week's reveal show. I can't be bothered to check if this is actually true but I feel like this general gets more active in the later half of the year. I guess because of the seasons or some shit.

>How can Stormcast even be made if they can't be forged?
rumors say that new stormcasts cannot be made, but old stormcasts can pass down their powers to a new guy, so there's a fixed total number of stormcasts
whether the next gen stormie remembers the previous stormie's life or they fuse into one being and which personality if any takes over will be a matter of discussion I guess
>WHAT'S THE POINT IF THEY CAN'T BE FORGED?
hypocritical people criticised reforging because to them it meant that were no stakes, all while accepting for granted that marines who aren't immortal like stormcasts have even lower stakes due to plot armor, these people are what gw is aiming to sell to, so they bend the knee to them regardless of whether it makes their product better, stormcasts were made at the corporate level as slop for pigs and will be sloppified further if it's what's needed for pigs to eat them
>WHAT'S THE POINT OF ALL THESE NEW NOVELS IF EVERYTHING SET UP BY THEM GETS NUKED BY ARCHAON? AGAIN??
novels never mattered, all characters survive anyway, these stories may survive as legendary tales of the age of myth
>but isn't the age of myth before stormcasts came around?
now the age of myth is the period before the last world

>There are a couple of changes that open up list building options. Firstly, a number of infantry heroes can now be included in regiments, and a lot of units have had their reinforcement restrictions lifted.
Scrolling through the doc now. They really did remove a fuckton of regimental restrictions. Thank god.
>>
>>98718754
>>98718809
You can use foot wizards as an additional hero in a regiment. That's nice
>>
>>98718518
I would say that it depends. Warjacks and Warbeasts are designed to be fully magnetised, therefore reducing the need to restrict builds or to hassle yourself into customising your pieces for tournaments and such.

The rest I would say is around the same price as GW on a points basis. Warmachine is after all a smaller-sized game, and I would say the scale is larger too, most miniatures are 32 to 50mm range, with great detailing. I enjoy both, for different purposes, but it's certainly been cheaper getting back into WM than it was onboarding into AoS. Also, they sell some of their factions' STLs, so that can severely drive down costs.
>>
>>98718735
It would be fun if stormcasts had different ways to be reforged now, depending on the individual or stormhost's traditions

>the stormcast has a squire or chosen spiritual heir he passes down his powers and experience, and ptsd, to
>the stormcast leaves his stuff around on death and whoever picks them up and is worthy becomes tho-I mean a stormcast
>the stormcast has large groups of sacrifices that allow him to return from death with his own identity maintained
>the stormcast has to fight his way out of nagash's grip with the help of priests and pilgrims and morrda in a lengthy process
>the stormcast's resurrection is aided by a different gimmicky power source, and is tied to the maintenance of that machinery
>the stormcast isn't resurrected in a roaring lightning, but heals slowly and over time, in a cursed painful immortality
>>
I hadn't noticed before but Urak Taar's profile says his regiment can be joined by "Any Hashutite Commander" and not "0-1 Hashutite Commander" as it says for other heroes. So his regiment can be all heroes if you like. Not that it'd be in any way practical, but I'm pro meme regiments.

They talked a bit about it on the stream, they've got a theme of grudges and hitting back harder if they take it on the chin first. The Valaya golems provide bonuses to the rest of the army if destroyed was the example. They're also very dwarfy, so slow, sturdy and defensively focused. Probably well-statted all around but with little in the way of run and charge, teleportation or extra charge dice.

This is my gripe with them too. Helsmith models in general veer too far into the "magitech that's more magic than tech" aesthetic for me, although that's probably intentional and to keep them visually distinct from KO and Skaven.

I guess sometimes you can judge a book by its cover.
>>
>>98720939
I first arranged the fyreslayers to give myself an eagle eye view of what the range would look like if the old infantry models were reboxed as one unit, if the caster heroes were another box, and the melee heroes wee another, instead of a dozen individual pity stuff, with placeholders for the stuff I would have wanted added to the range

then I arranged the kharadron in a similar way to fyreslayers, vaguely trying to mirror the slayers, grouping heroes by type (flying heroes, "caster" heroes", support heroes)
Then I arranged the helsmiths and new khazalites, in many ways these 2 ranges mirror each other, in others they don't
I similarly grouped the helsmiths' casters, and the khazalites' melee heroes (even though one is a special character and I have separated special characters otherwise, but lets be real, she's just a female version of the generic hero)

then I added hypothetical units to the ranges so they've got roughly equivalent rosters, where these are added is irrelevant, they were last additions

so yes, there's a rhyme, but not a reason
>>
>>98721098
Also I didn't add it in the image, but I would specify that the underworld band for khazalites should be gazul themed dwarfs, just so that every ancestor god has a unit
>grombrindal: rangers and character
>inghilde: miners and geomancer caster
>valaya: guards and gholems
>gazul: band and gholems
>thorgrim: war thrones
>grimnir: has its own range + a build of the larger gholem maybe
>grugnì: basically everything dwary is his anyway, plus the larger gholem
>hashut: has its own range

>>

>>
>>98720889
>no bull centaur hero
>no hobgoblin wolf riders
>no sneaky gits
>no hobgoblin bolt thrower

Maybe leaning on the past too much and GW would never go for it, but expanding HoH would be so simple
>>
>>98721390
Not sure if I'd want a whole ass wave for hobgoblins, maybe a named character to buff em a bit but otherwise I'd rather stick to more mechanical shit
>>
>>98721390
I don't think an expansion of hobgrots in the vein of how they were done in fantasy would really fit their current characterisation. They're not really the overseer race they were in whfb anymore, they're essentially chorf gnoblars. The "free" hobgrots in the kruleboy army could be expanded this way, though that'e be extremely cruel (heh) to kruleboy players. Finally get new units and it's just more hobgrots.
>>
>>98721441
It's more fitting but Chorfs should get both, both the indebted chattel slaves and those serving for profit. Currently Chorfs have fluff for both but only the slaves have models and those are obviously drawn from the free people of the Hobgrots Barons or whatever
>>
>>98721454
Honestly making two separate hobgrot kits was kind of a mistake in the first place imo
>>
>>98721269
It is, there's no ranged attack but he has cards for the grapple and an ability to navigate all terrain types
>>
>>98720933
I read a little of the first and it's irrelevant, barely mentioned, but the story is aimed at teenage girls. It's unironically about a teenage vampire girl with vamp daddy issues navigating the vacuum of power left behind by his sudden death. She claims the throne but political intrigue ensues.
Meanwhile a fanatical vampire hating Marshall takes command of the Freeguilds lead by a woman who respected the vampires (for no reason).
I dropped it. Legitimately the worst BL book I've read and that's saying something.
>>
>>98721481
Nah, Chorfs should have Hobgrots slaves. The issue is they didn't get the free Hobgrots too.
Hobgrots didn't read as slaves in WHF, but it makes sense Chorfs would enslave some of them. It'd be weird to have the one enslaved musician alone, but with the current unit it makes sense.

Some of these changes really needed to be there since launch but it’s nice that they’ve finally did it. Anyways probably gonna pick up helsmiths since they don’t look completely gimped with those new formations, or cities.
>>
>>98721588
if you enjoy those two armies equally from an aesthetics and gameplay angle, i would probably pick cities. it has a much more fleshed out range so far. there's a lot more there to chew on as a collection

i love my helsmiths, but the whole army is like 4 units and a bunch of wizards. its a pretty shallow army right now as far as what you can collect or how you can build it.
>>
>>98721588
I mean... Cities is the clear winner between the two in that Cities just functions well.

Helsmiths I haven't seen the new shit but they seem interesting. I think they need a wave 2 before I can make a determination.

Not saying the next release should be a hobgoblin wave, just pointing out some easy options beyond what the guy already had on the chart.

I don't see it happening since GW likes to keep the conceptual scope of AoS armies extremely narrow. Your single hobgoblin hero is much more likely.

>>
>>98721620
>>98721608
I’m leaning on helsmiths because it seems like an army id actually finish painting before 4th ends. But cities does seem mechanically more interesting based off of what I’ve skimmed from wahapdia.
>>
>>98721858
As of recently I now have both (though helsmiths was much cheaper since I got that stupid big lot)

I'd say Cities right now is GOOD, Helsmiths can be good but are nowhere near as flexible and strong as cities is. Cities literally just has better numbers and abilities, chorfs are unfortunately much more "balanced"

10, I think? 3 foot characters, 3 different infantry, gholems kit, artillery kit, boat kit, and then the fyreslayer-droth combo makes ten.
Fyreslayers are reportedly getting a good amount of narrative focus (incl in the ptg campaign) but I wouldn't expect another kit no. We would've known by now.

>Name and visual concept of the Hashutaar helmets originates from them but the fluff was changed from a rite of passage to mind control devices for Helsmiths
>Shares design motifs with that one Helsmiths mask art that was used for teasers and shows up in the final book despite not really visually fitting
Makes me wonder if they were the first Helsmiths-adjacent models designed and got memoryholed because things changed. Of course, all chaos Warcry kits look pretty distinct from their parent factions, however.

>For two moons, the writing had been on the wall. The Soot Raker tribe's previous patriarch went to bed one night as a man, and awoke a knotted mess of writhing eyeballs. The resulting war of succession between his scions was bloody, but short.

>While the Gods demanded oaths of complete annihilation, the patriarch's recent demise had shown how unreliable their blessings could be. Meanwhile, the business of cousin-selling and tribute-taking kept bellies full far longer then cannibalistic rituals to appease the insatiable spirits.

>So it was only inevitable when the ambitious and clever but materially disadvantaged younger brother would return to the bargaining table with his tail tucked once the plurality, and eventually majority, of the clan sided with his oafish elder sibling. In truth, in their youth they had shared many carefree hunts together and neither relished being driven to fratricide.

This is the beginnings of my concept of a darkoath warband called the chosen cowards, whose standard is a bloodied white banner of surrender. The basic idea is that Khorne felt cheated because this tribe didn't drive themselves to extinction, so he filled the losing side with homicidal rage during their surrender negotiations so they go around waving a bloodied white flag
