What sources and supplements do you like for creating/referencing traps, hazards, obstacles etc. I like incorporating them when I DM but I have a hard time coming up with complex traps on the fly.

Well back in 3.5 after reading the dungeon master's guide I realize the only legitimate trap trigger is arcane eye because it can trigger the trap outside of the rogue's range to detect it. A trap that fires some basic spell like scorching ray hits the target's touch AC.

In the majority of my games players were not looting dungeons but rather acting as political agents for a faction of their choosing. By designing dungeons intelligently like a dungeon inhabited by Kobalds having all small rooms and that give the party a -2 on every roll because they are medium made the game way more interesting. Why would Kobalds or goblins construct a base that medium sized creatures can move naturally in.

The moral of the story is that genre savvy enemies are always going to outclass a random table.

This was a nice read. Not really because of the hints and tips themselves but because you can understand the approach you should have in trap anbd dungeon design. Most importantly, it's a question of mixing your real world knowledge and system knowledge (you have to know what is possible to do and how, on both sides of the trap).

That said, I don't use traps that often, I always feel like arbitrarily fucking over the PCs in case they miss a check or something through no fault of their own, so I usually rely on good honest scraps.

I liked to use LiveLeak videos of industrial accidents for inspiration, though I'm afraid the site is now defunct.
