>>98733110>LOGH OPNice. I hope Anvilindustry puts out some nice two handed axe arms for their modular stuff so I can have some units in my Imperial Army "reusable" as Solar Auxilia. Until then mrm's axe arms will have to do. Problem is they haven't gotten the STL release yet. Doubt they will. I bet scanners who will clean the resin models will pay loads of money so that leaves only AI to 'rely' on. But then after that there is the problem of resizing stuff.
Anyone know the artist who made paint version of the horus heresy book covers? I can't find the pics or the artist rn.
>>98733473Little weird to private all the videos since a decent chunk of the channel had nothing to with anything Warhammer and like 1 out of 3 grimdark therapy episodes will just be unavailable.

>Battle of Calth and Burning of Prospero got boxes in the “1st edition”>2nd Edition seems to not have a specific theme for the starter set>3rd Edition is themed on the Dropsite MassacreThey’re not very deep into the Heresy at all in regards to major releases. Wonder if they’ll do any big story centered release outside of starter sets ever again.

>>98733599No, a fan made paint parody of the covers, sorry for my poverty description. >>98733700Calth was such an insanely good value for the price.
>>98733700I’m assuming the system will shift toward the Scouring possibly even expanding the covered time line to offer a way for GW to re-sell old OOP 40k sculpts that are just sitting around in ever growing numbers. I’m guessing it won’t be one where the majority involvement is the Sons of Horus, Imperial Fists, Iron Warriors, or Salamanders, so they can elevate another couple of legions as the new poster boys for an edition (probably introducing MK V and maybe MK VII plastics along the way). So really any post Siege of Terra campaign or battle that isn’t the Iron Cage could work and it would be a question of who GW is willing to make the poster boys.
>>98733731Timeline-wise they’re just getting started, wouldn’t make sense to jump past the end even if they’re still branding the Scouring with Heresy logos. I would bet more demons are gonna get active rules support. The Blood Angels have to fight Khorne guys out wherever they are as their intro to the Heresy. Maybe the Deathguard get a Zone Mortalis update where the last of the loyalists are stuck in a zombie movie with Nurgle demons overrunning the place.
Would N35-grade magnets be good enough for magnetizing the Telemon's weapons? While it uses a horizontal connection at the biceps like knights, I've no reference as to how heavy the options are.
>>98733213>>98733473What happened? Did his pedo allegations finally come to light?
>>98733771I still can't figure out what magnet grade and sizes for magnetizing my miniatures for transportation should be. Especially for metal models. Would love for an anon with pics to chime in with advice.Please.
>>98733771I don't actually think magnets you buy off amazon or ebay are actually graded/categorized correctlyyou're always just getting chinkslop
>>98733837Most of the mystery meat magnets I have in bulk are from Temu and I assume most of them are N35 or possibly worse. Usually they fuck up orders of 2mm by going up to 3-4mm otherwise, but the miniatures hold in my transport case just fine, and the 3mm ones seem to do alright for some dreads I have, all which are considerably smaller models who have two vertical connections. At least locally, I can get the Army Painter-branded ones that are supposedly N52 grade, of which I'd assume 5x1mm will work just fine for this job, but I'm wondering if what I have might hold and hold better than having to splash out for more of the damn things.>>98733799For the bases on plastic/resin models, I just roll with the ostensibly N35 ones from above, usually 5x2mm or 6x2mm. Couldn't tell you about metal other than needing more magnets. Anything with a 40mm base and above obviously gets more than one magnet. If you're really paranoid, a higher strength would let you put your model upside-down, there's one Knight anon here who has some of his hang on the case like fucking Spider-Man and the most I know is that he uses one the size of his base or some shit.
>>98730140>caestus and scary flamer, that thing's better than a Warhound flamerWhat flamer?
>>98733788Disillusionment with the direction GW is taking HH, GW threatening lawsuits to get perfectly legal 3d models taken down, faggots defending GW's behaviour (for free). The last one is probably the most blackpilling.
>>98733869>N35 ones from above, usually 5x2mm or 6x2mmAlright I'll go with n40 then. I do fear having magnets be "too powerful" and pushing or attracting other magnetized models away.Does one have to ensure that all the magnets are facing the same up or down direction?
>>98733973Polarity isn't relevant for just clinging onto metal surfaces that aren't magnets themselves, but you probably don't want models acting up around another if they're too close to the sides, so keeping it consistent can help. What I like to do before gluing is using a magnet on the opposite side of the base (provided there's no model on it yet) to keep the one below in place, repositioning it with more ease accordingly before super-gluing it in place. If you haven't played much with magnets, you could consider the following for a primer:>https://1d6chan.miraheze.org/wiki/Magnet

Has there ever been a Horus Heresy romance story?Like not even a little brief snippet about a man and a woman finding love despite everything else going on?
>>98734187Yes. In Know No Fear there's a small sub plot about the love between two techpriests in charge of Calth's defences. Fortunately it ends with death and self sacrifice, as is good and proper in this setting.
Opinion: the reason why Stormcast Eternal heads are hated with such fervor is not because they don't fit the setting, but rather because they're butthurt about Fantasy getting canned and Age of Sigmar replacing it.

>>98734298Keep in mind that picrel isn't just a Stormcast head though. Look closer, see how it's been applied onto an existing helmet? That's the crucial difference, SC heads are way too small on their own and need to be attached to a proper Astartes base first.
>>98734298No? It's because they are a normal helmet rather than a power armour one. Same as the fantasy/aos chaos ones, people don't even do the bare minimum of trying to make them look like they are capable of being voidproof.
>>98733213Maccabros... not like this
>>98733970>GW threatening lawsuits to get perfectly legal 3d models taken downI cant believe my GameLad console was taken down by evil nintendo, truly it was a fair and legal use of intellectual property and IP with its beloved games of Super Plumber Brothers: Illiad and Pokeman. Im all for the use and production of 3rd party models, but come the fuck on, theyre clearly "dubiously legal" at best and are more often than not clear ripoffs which no legal department in the world would allow, they fly under the radar because theyre small fry who are quite literally beneath notice most of the time. Its like complaining your favorite recaster got a sternly worded letter and had to rebrand/shut down (I am also not against recasts, I use them plenty, but lets not pretend theyre legal or whatever).
>>98733700>>2nd Edition seems to not have a specific theme for the starter set"Late Heresy". We see horus looking full chaos, theyre in MK6, the main campaigns for that edition were siege of Cthonia (literally concurrent with the siege of terra) and whatnot. 2e was the heresy in full swing and coming to its eventual conclusion, 3e is the heresy just starting out.

>>98734298>fit the settingOf 40k/30k? Sometimes they do, often they dont. Its like using chaos warrior parts, it CAN work, but its also often a fairly lazy addition done without regard for logic or coherency. Theyre clearly very ceremonial pieces and do fit into the broader "greco-roman/gothic" look of the imperium at places, but theyre also clearly not power armor, and need to be modified or used carefully because of it.

>>98734573The current wave of takedowns is a strange one. GW is going after files of models they either never sold or have been actively winding down production on which had alternatives for years they ignored until now while largely leaving alone people who monetize actual scans or near 1:1 copies of their kits. A quick look at the most popular or trending models on Cults makes that pretty obvious. My guess is that GW is preempting future releases. Within a year or two they either plan to bring these models back or start working on updated versions, and they’re trying to clear the field early. As far as I can tell, the takedowns began right after they announced that a bunch of Space Marine kits were going out of production in 40K and they immediately started targeting related STLs.That leaves two possibilities either GW is being comically spiteful “we’re done selling these, so no one else can make files of them either” or they intend to rebox or update the kits for Horus Heresy and want a head start on the people already offering cheaper more flexible alternatives. Not much of a reason to ignore peoples boxnaught designs for literal years, announce you are removing it from 40K, and then go after 3rd party designs unless you intend to do something with the unit.
>>98735051Im not an expert on copyright law, but that sounds plausible. Or maybe its precisely because they no longer make the models and the alternatives would somehow "dillute the IP" in their eyes, or create a sort of "grey game" where people no longer follow the GW release schedule (something they obviously dont want). Either way, its obviously something they both could do at any time and - as far as things like the law is concerned - they have the right to do at any time. Calling your blatantly GW space marines "space crusader ancients" wont save you.
>>98735058That’s what makes it so interesting to me. GW is being absurdly selective. They’ll look at something like picrel and decide it checks out, yet they decided weapon upgrade sets for Saturnine were worth chasing down even though no melee Saturnine models are sold outside the Praetor (a journal does mention them as a unit, so another case of “we don’t make that, how dare you make that”).All I can assume is that GW intends to do something with these units in the nearish future and simply doesn’t want competition during the model’s initial release window. The other possibility that they don’t want a grey market to exist could be true, but they’ve done a pretty good job of breaking that risk among a lot of their customers. In 40K, many of the units they’re now targeting have a deeply entrenched “it’s legends, so it’s forbidden” mindset in the system already. When GW announced some stuff would only become proxies with no rules support, some people actively celebrated turning other people’s models into ruleless paperweights and insulted anyone who cared that their Forge World models no longer even had shitty rules because of course they did.

>>98735051>a strange one. >>98735333>nuking everything just makes it look like he is actually seethingHis channel dies as it lived. Suffocatingly miserable.
>>98735334Except that’s not what I said. I’m not arguing “you they can’t go after this.” I just think the pattern is weird, unless GW has some intention in the nearish future to make, re-release, or update the units they’ve ignored for years while continuing to overlook files that are literally their own models being sold by random people for money. The only other explanation is comedic levels of maliciousness. Which is funny, but unrealisticOne of the first models I noticed them go after was some guy’s chaos’s boxnaught design, and that happened within days of the mainline boxnaught being sunsetted. Yet you can still find files including paid onesof every other dreadnought. That’s why I assume they probably have plans for those units. Why else would they bother going after a models that are losing mainline rules supper, while models as recent as Saturnine Terminators apparently aren’t worth their attention?>you also think it’s fine for something which is literally still in production to be ripped off? That’s a decision GW’s sporadic takedowns suggest, not me.

i was looking at militia rules because i was interested in militia land raiders but multi melta rhinos looks like they could be one of their best vehicles. Would 8 of them with a full grenadier muster actually be decent, or would it be completely retarded?
>>98737278This image clearly shows that Saturnine termies are actually dreads.GW really went full retard with those even going by the new scale

>>98735844Because only the fists have the phalanx? What kind of question even is that?
>>98733110the problem is that a lot of the kits bigger than the cerastus are just that much massier that they'd either need to be lots of very large multi-part plates, which adds to cost via complexity, because they'd also really need to be reinforced internally at the joins and on long flatsyou might look at acastus and think it'd be easy to translate to plastic but aside from the physical mass of those knights they've also got weird joints with lots of stresses on them; solid chunks of resin hold up well but plastic will get brittle just from being picked up and put down again, so eventually what is a prestige kit will just snap its arms off or break its waistand anything larger than an acastus has the same problems too so even though they're the same height a warhound, despite having far less of a wasp-waist problem because its big heavy arms aren't hanging on a series of small weird joins (which, in plastic, lets not forget are going to be "no glue"), well a warhound is going to have that same brittleness problem (resin does too of course but with resin you just make solid lumps to overcome that); for the same reasons we're unlikely to see dark mech walkers at 30k scale any time soonthe upshot of which is that titan legios will remain resin (until resin is phased out), and the upshot of that is that peripheral products to that range, like secutarii, will also remain resin because the only people buying them are filled with emphysema and bone cancer from all the titans they built, and don't really care about the relatively high cost (secondaries who buy recasts care, but they're also filled with emphysema and bone cancer and in any case don't buy from GW, so why cater to them, they're unlikely to buy a £300 plastic kit with a reputation for breaking itself)if we did get another mechanicum book it'd be nice to have plastic vorax, domitar, scyllax etc, maybe a more general tech-priest kit with options
It's beauitful.
I am of the idea World Eaters, Emperor's Children and Blood Angels armies avoid non-Land Raider vehicles because they essentially have no legion trait on disordered charges
>>98739397Thats like saying IF armies avoid all non auto/bolt weapons. Retarded and wrong. The legion trait is spice, not the main dish.
>>98733213Dude has the most retarded takes so frankly I don’t care. He also ought to stay away from fantasy because he clearly doesn’t know their lore.
>>98739605If IF tacticals lost their trait after disembarking from a Rhino I bet they'd avoid Rhinos too
>>98739643Only if the rhino did not provide a benefit worth the loss of the trait you moron. IF dont get their trait AT ALL on their melee units, do you think none of them take melee units?
>>98738218>>98738421I've had shitty recons and an infantry troop with a sniper rifle pin a Fatty command squad for 2 turns.
>>98739649Do I think imperial fists don't take non-Terminator melee squads because they don't noticeably benefit from improved (combi)bolters or solarite fists or teleporters or storm hammers? Yes! Yes I bloody think so. You should be thinking the very same!
>>98739731>Yes! Yes I bloody think so.Then youre a retard. They take command squads with thunder hammers the same as everyone else. They also take huscarls, who dont have shooting of any sort and therefore dont benefit from the legion trait. They take assault veterans (the same as everyone else), when they need to kill vehicles they use laser destroyer rapiers the same as everyone else. They bring plasma dreads the same as everyone else. What next, no one takes any vehicles because they dont get the legion trait either?
>>98739748I dont know if youre joking or genuinely stupid, but good units do not cease to be good because they dont benefit from the legion trait at any given time. The legion trait is not - if you are sane - a hard buildaround, it is a supplemental benefit in certain conditions. The WE trait only works in melee, that does not mean you should make a WE trait without any shooting, that would be retarded and disfunctional. It simply means the melee component of the army you built will be slightly more potent (and in return if you were playing IF the tacticals will do slightly better than the WE players tacticals)
>>98739748Unironically they either don't do the things you said (taking assault vets) or simply there's no alternative that achieves those results (plasma dreads & laser rapiers). You say everyone else is taking, say, Assault Vets. I don't think Death Guard players take any jump unit indeed
>>98739768>I don't think Death Guard players take any jump unit indeedDo you want me to go get the brand new assault vet squad the local DG player built? Units do things, the things units do are often valuable. You will want to do those things even if you are not advantaged over other legions in those things. IF (or DG) do not cease wanting to kill things in melee/have their melee units be quick and maneuverable. WE do not cease wanting things dead at range.
>>98739763Woah I'm not saying they forego of good units when the occasion calls for them. But focus on other units when they can afford replacements (Termies instead of vets)? Totally doable.
>>98739786>Do you want me to give you evidence so you modify your assumptions?Yes please. I see that as the main goal of asking questions and having arguments. Thank you.>WE do not cease wanting things dead at range. As I say here >>98739807, I'm not saying they abandon niches; I am saying they focus their attention on more synergistic alternatives when available and viable.
>>98739807Vets and terminators dont really have the same niche.
>>98739825>Yes please.Sure. Here you go, DG veteran assault squad. Not the most meta loadout on them, but ive heard they do fine. >alternatives when available and viable.Okay, but thats a pretty big conditional. To go back to the original point: a land raider is not "an available and viable alternative" to a rhino in most cases. Theyre very different units. Sure, everyone would love to take a land raider "if they can", but theyre more expensive, they take different slots, theyre bigger and slower. Theyre a different unit. WE take a rhino for the same reason everyone else does (because literally no legion except sort of WS does the rhino rush better than anyone else), a rhino rush is the cheapest and most cost effective way to get somewhere for most units, because a rhino is 1/4 the cost of a land raider and like half the footprint. If they could, every legion would have theit trait active for maximum effect all the time. But they often cant (indeed many legion traits are balanced by that (NL)), and trying to maximize its activation leads to unnatural or disfavorable circumstances which are worse than "conventional play" where you dont have the legion trait active, but just do the normally good thing.
>>98739869Wooo Dusk Raiders. What is that jump pack. And they all have iron halos? OohYeah I reckon that "when available" is doing some heavy lifting as plenty of times it's just not equivalent but do you know how this sounds:>no legion does the rhino rush better than anyone elseImagine a Blood Angels being no better than an Iron Hand at melee all because he disembarked from a Rhino. Maybe do take all the common core you need, but take all the advantage you can of your specific traits :(
>>98739768Why wouldn't DG take jump units?
>>98740037They might take some, but probably won't focus on them, only as support for their core of ranged units and supporting transports and terminators

>>98734651>they/them"They" should take the rope.
>>98740361Fair enough, that makes sense.
>>98740371I speak from ignorance, but I hear recovering alcoholics saying how they try to avoid even a single can of beer and I think, that's not normal either. Like it's either drink everything or never drink at all. Drinking a single one doesn't seem to be an option. It's like alcohol rewired them, but irreparably so. I fear that power. Maybe enthrallment is the word. I cannot believe there's no escape, I refuse the notion.

>>98740405the moment you start viewing alcohol as a solution you're fucked; brain rewire itself too so you're fucked forever. there's no escape outside of abstinence
>>98740409No they're not. Compare the boxnough sarcophagus with the Saturnine torso. They're pretty much the same size. The Saturnine pilot simply isn't suspended in amniotic fluid, he's just a nugget plugged into a big suit.
>>98740033>Wooo Dusk RaidersYea theyre pretty neat. >What is that jump pack.A print. Pretty sure most of that unit are various 3d printed elements desu.>Imagine a Blood Angels being no better than an Iron Hand at melee all because he disembarked from a Rhino.Yea? Its a pretty important niche (fast speed threat engagment) which no legion has a particular edge in. Legion traits are nice, theyre a thing thats good to play into where possible. But fundamentals trump them. A NL list doesent want to focus on nothing but setting up the legion trait, a terror squad with +1WS is still worse than (for example) a command squad with thunder hammers.
Looking for the Custodes book if anyone has a pdf of it, thanks in advance
>>98740444A solution? If only it was just a funny soda. Big strength and hope for the enthralled.
Despite having effectively a short sword as a bayonet, I don't really think bolters can use a bayonet effectively. Especially with their lack of buttstocks, seeing how they're handled like SMGs.
>>98740405For a "normal" person its fine in moderation, but thats the issue of addiction. Alcohol, drugs, spending. It doesent matter what it is, once youre in that negative habbit you have to go cold turkey, because you already burned through the normal "moderation" layers that a person has. Youre predisposed to go all in.
>>98740465Also, because I feel you COULD make the argument"oh, but BA(and the other "charge" legions) are encouraged to use jump troops because those are another form of fast melee unit but they get the legion trait"This is true, and its where you start running into the issue of unit specifics. Tacticals and despoilers are line, for example, and assault marines are not. Which means assault marines are a lot less valuable on an objective than despoilers or tacticals, even if the package is more cost effective for close combat. It ignores that the rhino can bring relevant weapons with it, or provide a good "fallback" spot to prevent a counterpunch from foes in some situations. Basically: A WE unit (with the trait active) is anywhere from 100% to 20% better at close combat (usually around 50/33%) on the turn it charges, but there are instances where that still doesent tip the odds between two different options.
>>98740405I'm a recovered alcoholic and I can't ever drink again, because as soon as I do it will just be a matter of time until I'm back where I was. Maybe I can just drink that one beer, maybe cope with a glass of wine with a dinner every so often, or a toast at a wedding, but eventually I *will* be back to being unconscious on the floor at 5 am on Monday morning from drinking a litre of whiskey between 9 am and 10pm on Sunday, and then going to work effectively steaming alcohol from my pores so everyone knows what I've been doing, and then go straight to the shop to buy 9 bottles of 8.5% cider after work is done and do that every day until Friday night when I can break the spirits out again. Rinse and repeat until I either get caught drunk somewhere I shouldn't or my liver/kidneys/nerves start crying out for me to stop.I am 1000 days sober today.
>>98740614Congrats anon. I know it cant have been easy, but good on you for sticking with it.
>>98740614We're all gonna make it bruh. Congrats.
>>98740405Seems to me that some people use drugs or alcohol to cope and self-medicate, find out why you want to do that, find the root source and fix that. But most addicts are very selfish at heart and do not consider how it affects others.
>>98740465>a terror squad with +1WS is still worse than (for example) a command squad with thunder hammers.and that's a problem; they wanted to balance shit and made it the blandest it's ever been; legions barely matter

>>98740526Yes I much prefer combat knives.

>>98740688This. 2E NL was spoky at range, and didn't depend on the enemy to trip to gain an advantage.Hell, playing your cards right you could make the enemy break in the movement phase, their presence alone was dangerous. Now got a conditional melee trait. Yikes!
>>98740526that's why i give everyone a chainsword
>>98740713>and didn't depend on the enemy to trip to gain an advantage.Because their legion trait was "diet iron warriors". The NL 2e (and 1e) trait may as well functionally not be there vs anything except dreads and vehicles, because all the relevant weapons either had rerolls to wound, fished for 6s, or wounded on 2s anyways. In 2e the night lords were exclusively about the Terror assault ROW, thats it, thats all the army had going for them. Their trait was "conceptually interesting" and mechanically fun, but it was objectively weak and mostly pointless. It may as well have been "night vision" (frankly that would have been an upgrade), which coupled with every legion unit they had being unusable led to them just being the same gunline everyone else played except they got to give everyone else -1 to hit and a cap on their range. By contrast the 3e trait is incredibly impactful and therefore makes itself felt and adds to the "feel" of the army in an actual game. Its situational, its also the strongest trait in the game when it works,
>>98740688>and that's a problemNot really. Terror squad ARE overcosted (18ppm for them is outrageous, something like 13ppm would be much more reasonable). but the fact that one of the more cost effective "general use" melee units in the game remains so and isnt supplanted by (insert legion specialist here) is good. Legion units SHOULDNT be just the best no brainer choices, they should be specialists and niche picks. >legions barely matterLegions matter a lot, theyre just not the monobuilds of 2e. You are rewarded for building a proper army, with the legion trait providing support and specialization to a coherent force, rather than just spamming whatever your broken unique unit is.
>>98740742>may as well functionally not be there vs anything except dreads and vehicles, because all the relevant weapons either had rerolls to wound, fished for 6s, or wounded on 2s anyways.Uh, try regular bolters? Wound marines on 3s. Nope, not good enough for you huh? You could disembark, have your Rhino go truck of peace and force a LD test at -1Ld before the movement phase was over.Diet iron warriors. I was IW, I wished I had NL rules. At least those dependend on them, not on how many vehicles the enemy decided to bring.
>>98740747>We shall discourage legion monobuilds...>...by giving them bland traits that will stand out less, thus making them little extras instead of something to define your play style overYuck.
>>98740688>and that's a problemCommand squad (all flavors) are THE designated "elite melee unit" option, they are THE most cost effective melee unit and should be that, that is their niche. They the unit that does nothing but beat ass, a pure statstick. Terror squad are a melee unit yes, but theyre also a support piece (they can provide statuses and a fear bubble) and can score extra points via their vanguard (and theyre in a much more accessible slot, troops vs retinue). They should NOT be as good in close combat as command squad, that would be fucking insane.
>>98740742hah lol; as ifnever played a 3rd game did you ?
>>98740774>...by giving them bland traits that will stand out less"+1WS on statussed units" is certainly not what I would consider bland. If you wanted to die on this (retarded) hill you chose a really poor initial example. The NL trait is by far the most interesting its ever been, both incredibly important mechanically and incredibly flavorful and thematic, it oozes narrative whenever it occurs (or when it doesent occur, the two sides of the NL fantasy).
>>98740787No, never. I only play a homebrew version of 1e converted to use 10e 40k. With alternating activation.
>>98740788"+1WS on statussed units" is certainly not what I would consider blandthat's bland as it goes, it require so many shit to ever goes off it might as well not existyou need to :status a unit (unreliable)be in range to charge said unit (unreliable)can actually beat said unit (unreliable) and then maybe if all goes right you get a nice extra dead marine at the endidiot
>>98740797yeh then fuck off when people discuss 3rd
>>98740799>it require so many shit to ever goes offYes, it requires thought and a plan to utilize. Thats not bland, thats "requires three braincells to use". Its an incredibly unique and powerful effect, it is objectively not bland. There is basically nothing else like it in the game, certainly nothing among the marine legions. >you need to do some thingsYes, that makes it unreliable, not bland. The unreliability is itself both part of its balancing and a part of its flavor. Quite simply it lends itself to two fantasies, both incredibly fitting for the NL:>the enemy is under duress from fire and their morale fails them, the weakness is seized upon and like predators sensing blood the night lords proceed to butcher the foe (this is the outcome when you status something and arent a gibbering moron, because +1WS is very powerful and turns any remotely close combat into a massacre). >the enemy steels their resolve and stands their ground, and subsequently punch above their weight against the foe(this is the outcome if you fail to status them, its less fun for you but its not too statistically probable and it helps represent the alternative fantasy, of the hero rising above the odds (and because NL legion units are often overcosted for their combat stats, they dont do well in fair fights))>and then maybe if all goes right you get a nice extra dead marine at the endWhat the fuck are you using? tacticals? But sure, +1 dead marine for you and -1 dead marine for the other guy is pretty good in a tactical slapfest.
>>98740802Im sorry for being mean to you anon, life with such crippling autism cant be easy for you.
>>98740788>The NL trait is by far the most interesting its ever beenThey went from +1 to wound, be it at range or in melee, when you outnumber, or the unit is falling back, or is Pinned, to+1WS in melee only, when the enemy has a Status.Range? Gone. Outnumbering? Gone. The enemy better fail that test, I guess It's not useless by any means, but you cannot tell me it's not blander
>>98740903>They went from +1 to wound, be it at range or in melee, when you outnumber, or the unit is falling backYes, a largely useless rule which was irrelevant even WHEN you activated it because all the relevant weapons either wounded on 2s, rerolled wounds, or wanted high rolls anyways. It did not matter whether you got that +1 to wound or not 99% of the time. Your lascannons were already wounding on 2s, your nemesis bolters still wanted those 5+ rending hits. Your thunder hammers still wounded on 2s, your lightning claws still rerolled their wounds and wanted those 6s. Their trait was "sometimes +1 to pen tanks", thats basically it. It made our laser rapiers really good. Big whoop, tanks were really hard to kill in 2nd after all.The actual legion trait was "night fighting for 2~3 turns and night vision". Except one was the ROW and the other was a paid upgrade. >but you cannot tell me it's not blanderYou keep using that word and im not sure you know what it means. Their trait is now somewhat harder to get (no outnumbering, although the game isnt full of cancerous Stubborn 10 fearless units either). but is much more impactful when you get it. The difference between activating or failing to activate your trait at a key moment can be the difference between game win and game loss, as opposed to the previous version, which may as well not matter. Night lords went from an abusive gunline that actively wanted to never do close combat, and which may as well not have had a legion trait, to a combined arms (but melee oriented) force built around "win more" combats and bullying weakened units with glass cannons and mobility elements.
>>98740903>The enemy better fail that test, I guess>the legion all about terror tactics and preying on psychologically broken foes needs their opponents to lose their coolMuch wow! So strange!
>>98740824>Yes, that makes it unreliable, not bland. The unreliability is itself both part of its balancing and a part of its flavor.that make it so you need to capitalize on status weapons; who are often trash. and then get a good melee squad in range of a unit and better fucking pray they get a statusfor all that shit i'll get a twin inversion beamer dread who doesn't give a fuck thank you
>>98740947>that make it so you need to capitalize on status weaponsOkay? What do you think all that fear access you have is for? >who are often trashWhich*And no, theyre actually very good. Statuses are incredibly powerful, even if you arent night lords. NL are just the best at applying them (or up there, AL can do it really well if they take effrit) and the best at capitalizing on them. >and then get a good melee squad in range of a unit and better fucking pray they get a statusYes, to use your melee trait you need a melee unit to get into melee. I dont think anyone realized this before. >for all that shit i'll get a twin inversion beamer dread who doesn't give a fuck thank youBetter hope you play on planet bowling ball then. Because that shit is m6, heavy, and 350+pts.
>>98740963didn't realise you played necromunda my bad. my cunts over here use 2ed terrain rules on planet bowlingballthere's no melee; life is shit
>>98740824>>98740942They didn't need before, actually. Murder is eliminating the target without allowing retaliation. Which can happen outside of melee.Officer Murphy didn't need to fail a morale test to be murdered, he merely got outnumbered.In fact there was strategy in 2E NL traits: encircle the opponent, have your units gang up on their equals or receive support to force unfair battles, inflict a status to turn the tide. Now it's just a boolean:>If melee(>If Status (>Then +1WS,>Else, don't>End if; end if;
>>98740927>Their trait was "sometimes +1 to pen tanks", thats basically it.That is fucking huge. It's so big the Iron Warriors got an entire trait out of that, without it affecting non-lethal or melee at all. You are being obtuse.>It didn't matter anyways because lascannons already wound on 2+It mattered lots because it affected bolters also. You are being stupid.
Has anyone managed to free the latest Journal Tactica yet? I know there’s the ZM floating about, but my collector brain needs the latest Custodes vs T-Sons one.
>>98741019>>98741019>They didn't need before, actually.Yes, because the trait was - while more interesting than most - not particularly fluffy/on brand for NL. >Murder is eliminating the target without allowing retaliation. Which can happen outside of melee. And yet the NL are not dispassionate killers. They "can" be, but they are not - as a rule - so. The NL are SADISTIC killers, the people who want to watch the light leave the eyes, to hear the final breath and pained gurgle. Not just shoot everyone from half a battlegrid away with high power guns and go home. >In fact there was strategy in 2E NL traits:Yes, have more guys than what youre firing at. Although that didnt really matter most of the time. >have your units gang up on their equals or receive support to force unfair battlesWrong, that implies getting into melee, which you never wanted to do as NL. The only melee weapons worth anything didnt care about your trait, and your melee units didnt have access to the only melee weapons worth anything anyways. The strategy to the NL trait in 2e was realizing that vehicle squadrons and rapiers would almost always outnumber their target. Maybe that "hey, if I add an apothecary I can have my tactical squad be a tiny bit better into theirs".Now it involves coordinating your forces, setting up firing lanes on charge targets you want and managing the balance between status application and DPS.
>>98741028>It's so big the Iron Warriors got an entire trait out of thatYes, IW got to do for free what NL had to jump hoops through to do (and which was also not that big, because vehicles were made of tissue in that edition anyways). >without it affecting non-lethal or melee at all.The NL trait may as well not affect melee. Because in the fights you would actually get and care about, it wouldnt. >It mattered lots because it affected bolters alsoWow, you kill an extra 0.25 tactical marines with your tacticals per shooting phase, very impactful! Well worth jumping through hoops to get. +1 to wound on small arms, when you got it, did not matter particularly much. It did not change the strategies you used or change what the best tools for the job were. It was simply not very interesting or mathematically significant. Wow, your tacticals did 2x the damage to dreadnoughts with their bolters? Thats insane! Except 2x basically nothing is still basically nothing. And this is before you remember how terrible pinning was in 2e, how the only actual strategy for it was "telepathy librarians", because all the other options were never going to do anything to anything important, even when they werent literally immune to it.
>>98741019>have your units gang up on their equals or receive support to force unfair battlesSo the current trait, except instead of 2x melee units its 1x melee unit and however many units providing ranged support. >turn the tideThe NL trait in 2e did not turn the tide. Not in any combat that mattered. It was okay in low stakes tactical slap fights, but every actual combat was between two squads with thunder hammers (because this was 2e) or with twin lightning claws (if not thunder hammers) and subsequently the +1 to wound did not matter one bit. You wouldnt think "oh, those cenobium sure are tough, but if I just get +1 to wound on them I can beat them". Because that wasnt true, whether they were pinned or not was irrelevant to how that combat went.
>>98741072>>98741106>>98741147Oh, it's the Hammer / Lascannon / Contemptor folk. Wasn't that more a problem with Hammers, Lascannons, and Contemptors than it was the NL trait itself? Because those three caused issues with plenty of things, and each got nerfed.Otherwise you'd also say Siege Breakers were bad because they didn't do anything to lascannons, which already got natural sunder for whatever reason. And lo and behold, now Siege Breakers don't do anything for any heavy weapon at all. Congrats, Patrick, we saved the city.
>>98741262>Wasn't that more a problem with Hammers, Lascannons, and Contemptors than it was the NL trait itself? The trait did not exist outside of its edition and context. Because the weapons balance was fucked and the weapons people used were limited, the effect of the trait was limited. Although the issue with weapons was as much the fault of AA tanking as it was the weapons themselves, especially in melee. Put another way: the DA +1 to hit with swords would have been a very different trait in terms of effectiveness if terranic greatswords sucked. Its only good because the weapons it takes advantage of are good. The IF trait would not be powerful if bolt and auto weapons did not provide a good payoff for it. >Otherwise you'd also say Siege Breakers were bad because they didn't do anything to lascannons, which already got natural sunder for whatever reason.Okay but siege breakers could work with other units (sunder autocannons for example). They also had the +1 to hit thing if memory serves, auspex? But yes, if the only unit anyone ever took for shooting was lascannons, the sunder benefit from siege breakers would not be very useful as a shooting buff. >And lo and behold, now Siege Breakers don't do anything for any heavy weapon at all. Congrats, Patrick, we saved the city.Yea, now all they do is provide easier access to siege units and provide those siege units with phosphex ammunition. How pointless.
>>98741284>Yea, now all they do is provide easier access to siege units and provide those siege units with phosphex ammunition. How pointless.Masters of signals both do their thing and provide a special detachment.Champions both do their thing and provide a special detachment.Siege Breakers provide a special detachment...and optional phosphex, often for units in said detachment. They could totally kept on also doing their thing :( I'll miss that.
>>98741262>Wasn't that more a problem with Hammers, Lascannons, and Contemptors than it was the NL trait itself?"no"The issue with +1 to wound is that it inherently does not scale well with attack quality, because there is a finite (and easy to reach) cap on how well you can wound. Even if thunder hammers were balanced against power fists, both thunder hammers and power fists wound on 2s. Even if chainblades and chainglaives were worth taking, they would wound on 3s with rerolls (and want 6s). The same goes for ranged, there simply is no weapon system which has good AP but struggles to wound for the rule to kick in on. Because the conventional system for "good weapons" is that they generally do not have issues wounding. There are also more ways to get +1 to wound than +1 to hit, which is why +1 to hit is more valuable, because it remains just as valuable regardless of your weapon type AND there are almost no instances where it would be wasted because WS/to hit is such a premium.
>>98740526
>>98741427Make it a double.
>>98741307>and optional phosphexWhich is their thing. They provide a special and highly limited weapon option for some units in their field of specialty. They also come with phosphex bombs, which are insanely good. Phosphex is one of those rare weapons that is both a powerful status weapon AND high damage.
>>98741591Phosphex is phine, and the fluff says Siege Breakers enjoy watching destruction from the front lines (making them Siege *Breachers*), but them guiding heavy weapons fire was fine also.
>>98741796>but them guiding heavy weapons fire was fine alsoThey still do that, they help you direct fire artillery from out of LoS.
Which sicaran is better? the Omega or the Arcus? Im not convinced either is "great", but im interested in having a pair of sicarans for aesthetic purposes and its probably between those two. The omega would have been my choice last edition, but now it just seems like sort of a "poor mans plasma predator", which is weird since its "objectively stronger", but it does essentially the same thing and I dont think much better. Plus it looks coolerThe arcus is more flexible, but im not convinced any of its firing modes are very good. The punisher exists, but double punisher feels like a meme.
>haven't painted in a while>go to start on my daemons>hobby desk is covered in cat hair>spend 3 hours deep cleaning the room>too mentally exhausted to paintwell, maybe next week
Are demons a proper army in Heresy or are they a novelty “they technically have rules” situation? The idea of demons on circles being good in 3 game systems seems appealing enough.
>>98742003Usable, but perhaps the least fleshed-out and cohesive when especially compared to armies with dedicated ranges, though it gives traitors more flavour and everyone else's selection kinda pales compared to marines anyway. While a few resin Ruinstorm Daemon models exist that you can still use in the newer deity-specific rules, I guess we'll have to see if James wants to relaunch them as being more than a PDF army at some stage, since right now this is the year of Custodes or some shit.
>>98742003I have not seen them on the table in 3rd. 2nd, they were at least an army and you had some unit customization and special rules, but 3rd they look like a stripped down shell of what they were in 3nd and I don't know if they are functional on the table or not.The rules for god specific daemons may help them out some but honestly, they need to add some flavor to the units because right now the army has a couple gimmicks but no difference or specialization for models in the army, just your base army rule itself.
>>98741427I think the magazine all the way to the front can act like a crossguard of sorts. At least it looks cool, which is what matters.Fr the buttstock isn't convenient, disregarding space limitations? I heard using essentially a short spear in a trench was so bad even a stick with a rusty bail was better
