A few years ago there was a really excellent thread on this topic. I had saved some of the discussion but it seems I lost it. Was hoping anybody intrigued might want to share anything that comes to mind for themes and ideas to use in this flavor of dark fantasy. There was one anon who had some great ideas and drawings for elves which included:>feral forest dwelling elves - stocky, strong, brutish, and cannibalistic both of each other and mankind>highborn "noble" elves who dwell atop mountains in impenetrable fastnesses - sadistic, vain, pleasure seeking, like to keep slaves, and are refined cannibals>tunnel and cave dwelling goblin like elves who are as vicious and cunning as they are cowardly - make use of extremely foul black magics that invariably use the blood of innocents, oddly even more proud and conceited than the mountain dwellers - and yes of course also eat people just as their other cousins doFor my own part I had thought up:>cossack inspired tribes of horsemen who have settled towns and villages>very rough, Fremen-like culture shaped by fending off elf attacks and skirmishing with one another over resources>men are brash and full of contemptuous bravado, love to dress in flamboyant colors>women are dour and unsettling to outsiders - they also dress quite elaborately but are much more intentional with the symbolism and hidden power within every stich pattern, every use of color, and every bend of jewelry - they also wear their husbands' lowermost left rib bones, which are extracted from the men before their weddingsAny further ideas welcome.

There is a reason that cyberpunk doesn't have you play as the suits working for the megacorps, but the chromed-up gangs on the streets living on the periphery of society.
