Against ogors you can take +1 to wound on non-hero units in almost every situation. Your units have ward and good save or resurrecting models (both on cavalry). You can also lower rend on a roll once per turn.
Your general is even tougher, since he has better save, better ward with bodyguards and you can give him heal.
You don't have amazing rend but you do have crit mortals
>>
>>98734038
In other words, I had the odds stacked against me?

>>98734097
Yes. How fast was he at killing your models?
>>

It sucks man. You can bond to them on everything but that. You can chat about game design and game feel, mutually watch a podcast, watch Jonny progress videos, etc but then they say "that's not for me." My Brother in Christ what do you mean.
>>
>>98734318
Gluttons were taken off the board and never got to use them. My Ironguts, Cavalry, and Tyrant killed his armored skeletons which I don't remember the name, destroyed his cav, 1 shot his Wightking, and that's about it. He started to get ahead when he 2 units of the weak skeletons came in and had more control.

>>
>>98734399
No he did not, I landed 11 damage on his Wight King.
>>
>>98734393
Mold costs were never relevant. Sure, they're like 50k but GW produces each kit for a material cost of like 0.0005p. That's a 100% profit at RRP basically. GW's main expenditure is warehouse and shipping logistics.
GW aren't squatting stuff because of lagging profits or whatever, they just lack the capacity to produce and store everything. Thankfully they're opening US warehousing because the UK cockblocked every expansion they attempted, hence two paint ranges because they could only build one new factory and you can't just overhaul half your production capacity to adjust the older one.

the army isnt even properly defined and the Akhelians that do have armor wouldn't look out of place with bronze age stuff. Hell, the ones with actual armor are hero's, and its fine for just them to be stand offish from the rank and dank.

>>
>>98734574
No, GW bought the land outright. They're only leasing the upcoming one outside Nottingham, which can't be helped given the location is ideal for exporters.
GW were 100% upheld by planning permission. Heck, they had to postpone everything for a car park once because someone reported a single endangered bat was seem there once.
UK officials just want bribed, it's like Russia. Where I live you see a listed building mysteriously burn to the ground every few years after councilors are bribed to grant free permission afterwards instead of a restoration effort. Meanwhile half the city is derelict because a big company had development efforts stalled at every turn by council opposition because they weren't getting bribed. It's been like 20 years.

the armour should be similar to the akhelian king, soulrender and eidolon
making them heavily inspired by historical designs just for a unit or two will cause tonal whiplash in the range and make the new models look less like elves and more like humans

Helsmiths, Slaves to Darkness, Idoneth, DoK or Sylvaneth? I'm completely new.
>>
>>98735093
Slaves for ease of play, might be a bit annoying to paint with all their trim and trinkets. DoK are kinda hard on both play and painting. Helsmiths look easiest to paint out of all your options, no idea how hard they are to play, though. They aren’t too strong presently but that could change because they just got some significant changes. Sylvaneth are strong and not too bad to paint, but definitely have a learning curve to get that strength out of them. I, as a player and collector of Idoneth, cannot in good faith recommend them to a newcomer in their current state. If you want to paint them, they can be tricky but not impossible.
General guideline is to collect what you want via a priority. The priority I follow is Models>Hobby>Lore>Gameplay.
>>
>>98735093
You posted a bull centaur, you mentioned helsmiths first, you clearly want them above the others, so what's the holdback from?

>helsmiths
a new, and fairly small army, it has a limited pool of units to draw from but does have all the meat and potatoes of army building covered. it uses a mechanic of territorial control to gain sorcerous power which it uses to upgrade its units, which can make its learning curve somewhat steep. can build shooting or melee depending on what you take. not outright horde but not super elite, a well rounded army

painting difficulty: 4/10
gameplay difficulty: 7/10

>slaves to darkness
bulky armored knights: the army. does what it says on the tin, its a stat check army with good fundamentals in melee and durability, and some not insignificant spellcasting as well. has more or less zero shooting. leans elite, has access to horde elements but they often arent very good paying for sins of past editions where the horde was too strong. very easy to play, possibly the easiest in the game, also easy to paint

painting difficulty: 2/10
gameplay difficulty: 2/10

>DoK
this army lives and dies around a single model: morathi. when morathi is strong, the army is strong, when morathi is weak the army is weak. how well you use morathi determines how well you do with it. otherwise its a glass cannon army of elite snakes, tricky harpies, and hordes of berserker elves in bikinis. lots of damage, dies easily. painting is mostly easy if you are confident with skin, but if skin is hard for you it will be a hard army to paint

painting difficulty: 5/10
gameplay difficulty: 8/10

>sylvaneth
tricksy army of big monsters and fragile sneaky skirmishers. relies on teleportation, terrain, and hit and run shenanigans. has a powerful god unit but doesnt always rely on it like DoK does with morathi. after a recent expansion it does have more unit diversity. easier to paint than it looks, harder to play than it looks. possibly the steepest learning curve in the game, very unforgiving, but rewarding to play, very tactically deep.

painting difficulty: 4/10
gameplay difficulty: 10/10

>>
>>98735093
>idoneth
a lightning assault army that uses high speed mobility and high accuracy and high damage attacks to launch scalpel strikes at vulnerable targets. some of its units have good defense, but its low body count, low health count, and lack of healing make it an army that doesnt suffer losses well outside of a rarely played niche horde build. how hard it is to paint will depend on how fancy you want to get with painting sea creatures skin, but the elves themselves are not too difficult. i recommend painting in sub assemblies for cavalry and weapon platform models. mostly melee, mostly elite, can build for horde and ranged though those arent its strengths.

How would you feel if in the next starter set, the "order" side of the box had two spearheads for two completely different armies?
>>
>>98735523
I'm tired of stormies, but cos also have a good range now, only thing they would reasonably warrant is an order of azyr expansion.
>>
>>98735331
the models are good, but the army does have some serious problems at the moment.

the overall lack of unit choices, combined with the fact that several of their unit choices are not good or limited in function means they get stuck relying on 1 or 2 units to do all the heavy lifting. neither the shieldwall troops nor the hobgrots have any decent buffs or heroes to let you build them into a meaningful part of the fighting force. those units can barely fight their way out of a paper bag and no amount of wizards or commanders can really change that. but they also lack attrition mechanics like regeneration or high wound count, so they dont really do the ardboy thing of being dense walls of meat either. they're just speed bumps and territory grabbers, and can never rise above that mechanically with what they have.

then there's the sorcerers. overall low spellcast count. most are 1 cast, the 300pt generic sorcerer is only 1 cast. the 350pt named sorcerer is only 2 cast. this is a general 4th edition problem but it plagues armies like helsmiths that want to rely on a cabal of wizards. this is compounded by most wizards not having unique warscroll spells anymore, the army not having its own endless spells, and the spell lores in 4th only having 3 spells each instead of the previous 6. all of this adds up to wizards just being very downplayed this edition, and helsmiths are an army led almost exclusively by wizards.
>>
>>98735363
That’s a cool design but I can’t tell where his head/face starts and ends.
>>
>>98735584
cont

then there's the issue of the army having an inverse power curve. most armies in the game are at their strongest on turn 1 and diminish as the game goes on and they lose models, which means all of age of sigmar is usually playing balls to the wall in the early turns. helsmiths, because of their territorial control demonic power system, are the opposite. they start off very weakened and their units feeble, and as you seize more control over the table during the game you get more points to power up your units. but the issue here is that your army has to endure against the enemy for 3 or 4 turns to get to that point, when most enemy armies are at their strongest turn 1 or 2, and with single health infantry and 4+ saves on the cavalry with no ward, helsmiths didnt really get the benefit of being particularly durable as an army compared to a proper tank army like maggotkin or ironjawz.

the armies of renown address a few of these issues, but also severely limit the army rosters by excluding cavalry and hobgrots or infantry and artillery respectively, as well as losing access to a lot of the armies buffs, so they are dubious and highly skewed

>>
>>98735523
I wouldn'y be a big fan. Unless we explicitly get grand alliance rules for army building again. Getting what woukd equate to like 250-300ish points for 2 armys (and its entirely possible I do not own the other) would be pretty shit.

Especially if its like 4 half assed armys in the box.
>>
>>98735342
Well, the world is yet somehow the rules will probably remain the same and we'll still be playing the same armys...
>>
>>98735599

>>
>>98735724
Not enough to particukarly fix the glaring issues of DPP being the main focus of the faction.

If they're gonna do that at this point I'd rather stacking buffs for you or debuffs for the enemy as you destroy the map alongside the passive power gain per turn for the aor.
>>
>>98735737
This playstyle is quite hard to make work in IGOUGO tabletop. I’ve seen it executed very well in Conquest’s Ermor, sorry, Old Dominion thoughbeit.
>>
>>98735703
Best I can do is An army of renown
>>
>>98735744
I think a bit more power needs to be baked into the units to be honest, a ward save at base level or slightly better save would do wonders. God forbid maybe 2 hp infantry so it doesn't play like a pseudo horde army.

I don't really understand the gimmick of chorfs because they don't particularly hit anything super well and are just okay all around. (Except bull centaurs being solid shock cav)
>>
>>98735724
yeah, it made them slightly better, but its still a bandaid on a broken knee.

the faction traits are nice, but it doesnt change that most of the armies units still require 2-3 dpp EACH to power up, which means you are just very limited in the amount of units who can actually do their job at any time, and the FAQ didnt really address this. we would need faster dpp generation or lower dpp costs to full power on warscrolls across the board to really make a dent.

this would be a great thing to give the wizards, like an unlimited spell that generates dpp or something, given that its demonic power and the daemonsmiths are the wielders of demonic power, but currently there's nothing to generate more apart from controlling more of the board and a once per turn (army) ability. making reserves of demonic power an unlimited spell instead of a once per turn command ability might help

Plenty of routes to go down and that's just considering stuff to refresh from earlier versions of the army. Also more obscure oldhammer options like the juggernaut.
If we're talking totally new stuff I'd like them to do something with the hashutaar cult, like a berzerker unit with dual axes or anointed sentinel style glaives.
Also a bull-chariot unit to up the assyria connection. I just like chariots in general and aos has too little of them. Rules team has no idea how to make them interesting either.
>>98735703

>>98735667
I just want fluffy stuff that fleshes out and exemplifies HS culture. The Infernal Guard are an easy example that I really hope make the transfer from traditional chorfs to the HS.
Beyond that obvious one, I think I'd like to see some sort of war machine designed around area denial. Maybe something that pollutes the ground behind it, or "blesses" the ground ahead of it.
Moreover, if GW is going to commit to the whole fem-dwarf thing, then I'd like to see some priestesses or handmaids of Hashut that are meaningfully different (in terms of looks, function, and lore) than the priest of Hashut model(s) we have now.
I wouldn't mind some bound daemon stuff either. Maybe some constructs that function like monstrous infantry or a wall that you can lose control of under certain circumstances.

I feel like they should probably have their own versions of Black Arks that they use to experiment on and mutate stuff and deploy them on the battlefield at will, but land based of course instead of the naval theme the WHF/AoS BAs have. Kind of like a bigger more messed up version of the new Dwarf landships, maybe even Ziggurat themed.

>why would fyreslayers join a bunch of atheists?
Idk I just like the idea of a bunch of dwarven refugees in khadrons.
Also an obligatory swarm unit composed of the mechanical bird things. It’s odd how little swarms we have in aos. Even 40k embraces them.

the KO arent atheists. they fully aknowledge their gods, they just dont trust them

but the city of barak thryng has a more religious overtone and sees the veneration of the gods as well as the welcoming of fyreslayers, so thats definitely a thing in the lore. you used to even be able to run them together via coalition

Guess we can start by just giving our thoughts on spearheads and someone can make a chart based off our responses. I’ll go first
I’ve only player the gnawfeast clawpack so far but it feels quite strong and easy to play. The warlock engineer can basically shoot across the entire board and can just sit on an objective deep in your territory. The grey seers bonus to control combos well with clanrats since it can give them control and getting decently consistent mortal damage is nice. The clawlord on gnawbeast is a decent general although he feels too squishy for melee. It’s best to take skryre connections for him and just shoot with melee being a last resort. The clan rats are useful and the fact they both respawn is amazing since they can just hold down the enemy for the first turn or two. The rat ogres are your best unit and can both apply some nice ranged pressure against melee armies and provide a good counterpunch against whoever pushes through the clan rats to try and attack your back line. I will say the whole tunneling thing isn’t that great since the board is so small and you don’t exactly have any units that can comfortably drop into the enemy back line.

Heavy slow melee infantry that would actually need transporting.. im thinking heavy armor suits with massive hammers, pick axes, pile bunkers.
One man skimmer style boat for cavalry.
Submarine design looking boat for ultra high atmosphere.
Most importantly, an actual centerpiece character model. The iron clad is fine, but KO really needs a proper central character on a boat. They had the opportunity to do this with Drekki and they didn’t. Im thinking something like the dwarf king on his stone boat or the newer female commissar with her personal vehicle, thats the kind of shit we need more of

Please understand I am attempting to say this as politely as possible, but people with your mentality are the reason that all GW products have went to shit. Warhammer is all about /yourdudes/, not having Faggot McBIgmodel on a $100+ centerpiece that gives game winning buffs and is effectively a must-take for any army to win. Keep that this in 40k.

My favorite dorf faction across all of Warhammer and my second-favorite for AoS after Sylvaneth.
I think I'd lean on the capitalism angle, I like the idea that they can use their aethergold to supercharge their weapons so some sort of in-match economy would expand on that concept nicely. Battle bursars, vault golems, Fort Knox zeppelin centerpiece. True blimpheads could play to maximize their profits rather than for the actual win conditions.

While chorfs had a low win rate for a long time they are currently very strong and consistently put up top 3 or 5-0 results at tournaments. The overwhelming vibe of the response above make it seem like you'd be shooting yourself in the foot competitively by starting with that army. Theyre a 48% win rate army where the competitive builds routinely place in tournaments and the army just got a buff on top of that two days ago. They're competitively rock solid rn.

I believe that the Last World interpretations that assume complete reduction of the realms into mere continents are just going way too far. It would completely erase a lot of what makes AoS' identity separate and unique from WHFB, render for nothing all the efforts and costs GW sunk into redeeming AoS and developping its lore and cosmology, and (much more importantly from a pure business standpoint) intrude too much into the space of Warhammer The Old World. If GW wants to cater to the WHFB nostalgics, then the simplest and more straighforward solution is to just put more money and development into TOW, instead of risking going through a redo of all the backlash they got for the End Times.
I think it much more likely that the Last World will only have parts of the realms getting pulled into the Eightpoints to form the continents of the new planet, not the whole of the realms. That way, GW gets to have its cake and eat it too: give the people who want a simpler setting what they want, while still keeping the original realms around in some form for the people that like them as they are.
>>
>>98739950
The realms are irrelevant to the setting, they're just geographically separated.
>but the potential of 1st edition realmgates
GW don't care, we got concrete maps in 2e and in the case of Hysh: a COMPLETE map
The realms have zero bearing on AoS save as zones of particular magical influence which is mostly also subdued and secondarily could and will just be a geographic biome.
>>
>>98739001
you just know
look at his smug expression
>>
>>98739950
Eh I honestly don't think the realms being their own little pseudo-planets is essential for them to work. If they become continents, but each retains their bullshit (like ghur's landmasses "fighting" for dominion, or ghyran's sprouting new peninsulas all the time) I'd be perfectly fine with things. At least on the cosmological side of things.
I think the timeskip is going to introduce far bigger problems than the realm merge honestly.
Starting off your clean slate second attempt at the setting with a bullshit "and all the important character's emerged from their bunker :)" seems like an awful idea
>>
>>98739950
We just have to wait and see. Whatever is going to happen might be good idea done poorly or bad idea salvaged by execution
>>
>>98739982
>Starting off your clean slate second attempt at the setting with a bullshit "and all the important character's emerged from their bunker :)" seems like an awful idea
Maybe, but "all the important characters you just bought and painted are dead" is an even more terrible idea. The sensible thing to do here is to minimize the timeskip instead of jumping to some 1000 years bullshit.
>>
>>98739994
I agree, making the timeskip less dramatic is the best way to avoid the named character catch 22. Make it say 200 years or something and it's still long enough for all the new developments they want to fit in, while not fucking over the named characters. With aqua ghyranis being a thing that just about covers everyone, though it's probably stretching things a bit for the human characters. Seriously though a thousand year timeskip opens up a bunch of issues after we've been working in terms of decades since 1st edition. Why the fuck does all the cities stuff look exactly the same as it did a full millennium ago for example?
>>
>>98740021

>>
>>98740082

>>
>>98740095
She's been definietly around for several 100s given she was old when vandus fought Khul.
But yes, it does say Aqua has its limits and her age is werid as fuck
>>
>>98740095
>source: my gaping anus
>>
>>98740095
Her backstory is that she is an ancient Aqshy death god or carries the essence of it. The skeleton is the last essence holder or mortal it possessed; used up like a flame as the followers are.
Zenestra was old when the Stormcast first arrived, so within the Darkwater monk territory, but that's irrelevant because she's an immortal god
>>
>>98739982
I agree too regarding the timeskip.
Other problems I’ve thought about (although admittedly more personal nitpicks then anything else):
>Hysh is supposed to be the Sun, and Shyish the underworld. Like, that’s part of their "bullshit", as ypu put it. If they just become continents, they lose what makes a lot of their inherent cool factor on a conceptual premise level.
>The whole deal with Slaanesh’s chains each needing their own unique paradoxical requirement to break them might end up just getting nowhere, because if Hysh and Ulgu no longer orbit each other and sustain Uhl-Gysh, then Slaanesh will just break out.

Really, my main gripe with Last World is that I like the wacky cosmology of current AoS. Makes you feel like you’re really living through ancient mythology made literal. It’s the kind of high-concept nonsense that I adore, outside of adaptations of irl Norse mythology, it’s something no other high fantasy setting really does. I also fear that the change of tone towards grimdark might end up too pronounced. AoS as a genuinely hopeful setting with straightforward good heroes is part of the charm for me as well. I don’t want AoS to just become "40k but it’s a renaissance fair", otherwise I’d go to WHFB and The Old World.
>>
Looking of getting into this. I play Custodes in 40k, is there anything similar in AoS? Basically elite infantry with super high stats but also super high point cost

Totally agreed, the realms are one of the best parts about the setting, the fact that they’re similar to DnD elemental realms but not as absolute makes them very charming and I especially like how travel between them is a fairly big undertaking with all that it entails. A planet combined with the different realms while the actual realms stay unchanged seems the best option.
>>
>>98740261
Yeah I've thought about the sun problem too. My guess is they bring back ignax but on a larger scale. Just having a regular sun would seem a bit dull now. As for slaanesh breaking free I think that's actually supposed to be happening.
The grimdarkening, yeah, we'll see. I like aos' current thing (nobledark? Grimbright?) where the world is fucked but there's genuine forces of good instead of 40k's version where Brutus Genocidicus is technically the "good guy" because he's slightly less comically evil than the other factions. Aos' protagonist factions aren't perfect but they're very definitely "good". More like fantasy was than 40k.

The cosmology of AoS isn't hard, literally just say 'its like they are on seperate planets, and magic gates connect the different planets.'
For more intelligent people, you just say 'its like the Norse mythology with the 9 realms.'
The kind of people who have 'difficulty' imagining this shit are the sort of people who were never going to buy the product anyway, smashing it all into one world isn't going to change anything.
That's it.

>>
>>98744436
As the poster of the mini, I should also inform that the sword he’s wielding is not the weapon that build usually carries. He has a long lance and his large shield I assume is because he’s more of a “jouster”. I just made some changes to personalize him because I prefer that posing over the generic build. I would’ve liked to use the generic’s shield which is much smaller but it’s a completely different assembly for no reason. Also sorry for swelling up the horse autists brain.

>>98738604
Several mistakes here, if it's based purely on competitive win rate.

Tzeentch is consistently S tier and wins A LOT. S2D is a middling army and should go down a tier. Nighthaunt has a 49% win rate and doesnt deserve more than A tier, probably B tier.
>>
>>98744657
I figure the racism comes from humans that likely never see non humans, and usually when they do it’s the non human trying to eat them. The exception to this are the dwarfs which the sigmar religion likes. As for between the dwarfs and elves, it stems back to the War of the Beard thousands of years prior to both settings and lasted up until the end

Lot of issues with their rankings actually, mostly that their rankings are not corroborated by IRL tournament results. DoK as not-S tier is also really off base. FS confirmed to be an over performer IRL, although the people who play it are typically very dedicated to that faction. Tier lists are always so bleh for this reason, either they're full of these 'hot takes' or they're just rehashing data.
>>
>>98744676
No I know all of that I mean they didn’t have to lean into it and could’ve easily said “teclis and the elves decided to stick around and do foreign exchange frotting with humans after setting up the colleges but humans have short memories and elves are dicks with long ones” or some stupid shit

I doubt it was based on tournament winrate and more on their opinions as professional players.
Winrates are influanced by popularity of the army or its main strength being something easily played around by more seasoned tournament players.

>>98744828
Out of curiosity - how closely did you look at the pic? Woehammer specifically uses metrics like player experience, attempts to calculate a rough ELO of more experienced players, and specifically tracks which armies are most popular with first time GT goers. I understand we need to be cautious about sample size, but these guys are the only ones aggregating hundreds of games worldwide with any semblance of controlling the variables.

>>
>>98745208
>Nighthaunt - Sons of Behemat
>>
>>98745284
I understand that this is not just pure winrate but some think you can't just measure. For example, a faction popular at higher level will generate new tactics quicker than something niche but opponents will be more likely to come up with something on a fly by having experience with fighting against that faction. If woehammer wanted to achieve what, from my understanding, aos Poland wanted to achieve, they would have to look only at seasoned players and their matches. I doubt that it would have wideo appeal and be more useful for average player and I doubt that AoSP wanted to contend with aggregated data provided by tournament stats. But again, maybe they did and maybe they are wrong
>>
>>98745364
Nice. Any chance id recognize your dudes?
>>
>>98745444
Purple Deepkin and >>98742818.
>>
>>98745430
Have you ever looked at the woehammer metagame stats articles because they spend like 70% of each article talking about how player skill is a confounding variable they try to control for. They attempt this in multiple ways including stratifying the prior tournament experience of people attending these GTs.

Also, again, does AoS Poland even win enough for you to say their analysis is representative of the top players? Idk. For example, Tzeentch has one of the highest levels of player experience AND one of the highest win rates, so even at face value their opinion doesn't corroborate to what top players are actually bringing to these events.
>>
If they just gave the slaanesh archers the death rattle treatment I would finally pick the army up…
>>
>>98745470
>>98744846
As I said, they are not top of the top (more in the middle), so whatever you respect their opinion or not is up to you. What I was talking about was the approach and goal of it and how they might differ

>>98745593
That's a fair point to make.
