Total Faerie Death edition>What is Shadow of the Demon Lord?:Shadow of the Demon Lord is a horror-fantasy tabletop adventure game that presents a world standing on the brink of annihilation. In this game, you and your friends play characters charged with fighting back against the spreading evil, whether that involves tracking down potent relics, exploring ancient faerie ruins, journeying into Hell to bargain with the Devil, or battling demons and the cultists who summon them. The system is setting agnostic and has a wide variety of possible details for your own world.>What is Shadow of the Weird Wizard?:It's a high fantasy game running on the Demon Lord Engine. It's similar to SotDL, but without the horror elements and the power levels are higher.>Other games? Many other games were made using the system, some even set in the expanded Demon Lord multiverse like Abaddon: The Angel in the Void, more info here: https://schwalbentertainment.com/>Trove Link:r3br@nd <dot> ly /SDL>Reference Table:schwalbentertainment.com/play-aids/shadow-of-the-demon-lord-reference-tables/>Simulacra (5etools for SotDL)pastebin.com/5yj3vYRj (embed)>Roll20 statblocksr3br@nd <dot> ly /SotDLBestiary>Latest Releaseshttps://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/586667/rage-of-the-goblin-king-a-most-crooked-path?src=newest_recenthttps://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/585148/weird-foes-weavers-of-webs?src=newest_recenthttps://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/584101/return-of-the-witch-king-part-11-the-last-days-of-urth?src=newest_recent>Thread QuestionNow that Rob has finished the demon lord metaplot and nuked the setting after more than a decade of supplements to focus on DL666, what's your retroperspective on Shadow of the Demon Lord?>ExtraWhile he's been doing this with Weird Wizard, Rob's also been releasing stat blocks of the various gods and powerful characters on Urth like Ashrakal, the Great Dragon or the Horned King. How do you feel about statting out gods in RPGs?
The trove seems pretty outdated on the weird wizard front. Does the maintainer have a drop for cleaning?
POO POO MAGIC LOLOOPOO
Are there any rule changes from Weird Wizard or the demon lord engine that can be easily implemented in SotDL?
>>98754959>what's your retroperspective on Shadow of the Demon Lord?It was ok. Fine really. I played it for 3 years or so and run multiple campaigns in it. Some of them even to the end. It was pretty rough at the beginning but eventually after what? two years? Most glaring issues where ironed out. Still the rogue needed a rework and classes like the adept and spellguard shouldn't exist. Most enemy statblocks ended up severely underpowered in actual play but the rules allowed you to create custom monsters pretty easily. I dislike the boon/bane mechanic because it brings back in full force the problem that advantage/disadvantage tried to solve, going hunting for modifiers, that end up being meaningless, before every roll. It is still my go to system for a setting up a quick and dirty game.>How do you feel about statting out gods in RPGs?It's worse than just pointless nerd wankery because it diminishes the scope of these beings as something well beyond mortals.
>>98754959>Now that Rob has finished the demon lord metaplot and nuked the setting after more than a decade of supplements to focus on DL666, what's your retroperspective on Shadow of the Demon Lord?Give me a tl;dr please? I stopped following the actual setting plot around the implications of the Witch King's return with Kingdom of Skulls and the Dark Lady preparing for his return.
>>98756403Basically Dungeon of the Damned, Return of the Witch King and Orc Wars all happen before, alongside and after each other depending on where in the adventures you are, with Dungeon of the Damned setting off some major events.Dungeon of the Damned ends with you reaching the bottom where Ashrakal is imprisoned, you find that Emperor Eronymous was alive all along as a god emperor but was stuck guarding the gay baby jail and going slowly insane while his empire got ruined. Ashrakal gets out and fucking kills Eronymous because while they both got obscene statblocks eronymous rots alive. After that adventure he gets out and starts conquering shit in Rul while Drudge in orc wars kicks in the teeth of the Holy Kingdom. In orc wars Diabolus reveals his true nature and a large chunk of the faith just accepts it. Midway through the campaign turns into "protect the devil's daughter" before the big reveal and then "Uncurse the orcs back into jotunn" which literally has you go in and out of the underworld to get the last imperial heir in order to accomplish the ritual. While this is happening, Diabolis got his daughter to kill the World Mother and collapses a mountain on the Horned King to kill him. Unfortunately fir Diabolus Ashrakal just kills him and gets his full soul back, which he then uses to murder the fuck out of every faerie god in the setting while using the oblivion engine to implode their hidden worlds. This insane clusterfuck leads to a ridiculously strong demon prince showing up that you can probably only kill by throwing the Witch King riding the Great Dragon at it. Meanwhile you can free Rob's self-insert(i'm not exagerrating here), being the Weird Wizard and get to teleport to Erth.
>>98756460Wait, is Astrid Diabolus's daughter? Also who's the last heir, I remember reading Horus was the last living heir of the Empire when the orcs took over the capital.
>>98756562Horus is the last heir yes and he dies so you need to revive him by getting his mane from the underworld. Also no Astrid isn't Diabolus' daughter it's a new character introduced in orc wars. Astrid is very dead.Diabolus' statblock is coming soon in a book of its own btw
>>98755681Nope. But if you want to shove it all in a gofile I'll upload it later.
>>98755743Raging
>>98754959why is this game worth playing in the big 26? (I'm a zoomer btw)
SotWWPriest is the best Novice Path, and Inheritor is the best Expert Path, basically bar none. Turns out the two just happen to be fucking busted together as well. I would highly recommend either heavily altering Inheritor, or outright banning it from your table.
>>98756460Can someone actually upload the recent adventures? I heard multiple gods got stated in them.
>>98765885don't have my books at hand, I have the general concepts of each in mind, but whats the specific interaction/stacking between the two that make it that good?Even if its busted, that makes for a pretty decent progression narratively, overall Inheritor can easily be fitted to any novice path I guess
>>98754959Demon Lord is my game that I point to for getting forever 5e folks to try something else. It has JUST enough shit to not feel like a totally different game but also so much different that highlights just how much better other games are it is easy to rope the tards into trying it and making them realize D&D is dogshit so they are much more open at trying other systems. That's when you can get them to try your generic system of choice so you can can just play the shit that works best for group and is infinitely modular.
>>98770278Inheritor pound for pound does way too much damage by default, and the Vorpal trait for the weapon is exceptionally easy to pull off with Priest as a Novice path. As soon as lvl.4, you can dole out 11d6 damage, and Vorpal can add an extra 5d6 damage at lvl.5 extremely easily for 16d6 damage. The Inheritor path is absurd, especially combined with Priest being slightly too pushed with it's Holy Smite feature (should only add an extra 2d6 damage vs 3d6, considering the effect is also multi-faceted).
