How do we make Familiars less terrible in 5E?

What exactly do you get out of trolling like this?

This injected negativity doesn't really seem to have changed 5e from maintaining it's dominant player ratio here, and you driving people away from this board may have actually resulted in a decrease of players who play more niche systems, since it's become increasingly difficult to sustain a conversation here.

You probably should stick to talking about whatever games you actually play instead of trolling at every opportunity you can about a game you don't play.

I talk about other games plenty, just not in spam threads.

My familiar is awesome and I love him. I play a level 8 Eldritch Knight with an evil infernal familiar who most often takes form of a black snake with red eyes. I use him for recon and combat assistance. Sometimes I turm him into a black hawk (bird) so he helps me map out the town I'm in. I once turned him into a man o' war (cnidarian) for seaborne recon. Currently he is a really mean black monkey who helped me load a cannon and fire at my enemies and afterwards he delivered many useful healing potions.
I love you, Malrubius!

Familiars are the coolest when your DM plays them as an extra party member who can turn into any small animal. The telepathic bond is incredibly useful in all sorts of situations. They're satellites, endoscopes, periscopes, spyglasses and drones.

I rp a wildfire druid as having the familiar and spirit all rolled into one, it doesn't do damage or anything of the sort unless I spend the wildshape but it means I have this cute, ethereal fire critter hanging above my shoulder, I will fed it the carvings I used as a firestarter when making the campsite and it will might my pipe when my turn of nightwatch comes, wildfire seems to be well rounded when it comes to damage, utility, healing and rp in that sense, I also think ahead of time out moves so when my turn comes I roll what's needed and don't stop the flow of combat which is what most people seen to struggle with, either you hit you heal or you do Susie's idea people, just pick and mover on

Didnt they just buff familiars to be OP? I swear there was a Pack Tactics video about it recently. And even if not, they're still OP for scouting. You can bypass 90 percent of traps at the cost of a 2nd level spell slot. I don't know why I even put traps in my game anymore when I end up having to explain "no, mage hand doesn't work like that" and then they just use a familiar to do everything dangerous anyway.

Familiars were better in 3.5e where you lost 200 XP per level if it died. That might have been a bit extreme but I still say it should have cost some gold and time to summon another one, so that they srent disposable. The amount of cruelty to animals in my last 5e game was through the roof. I remember in 4e my friend drowned his cat familiar 5 times trying to see what was on the other side of an underground river that went under a wall.

You failed to give any information on why you didn't like familiars and you failed to provide any of your own thoughts on the subject. If your thread's prompt is one sentence long, you should not have made it.
