As someone with a few boxes who tried a few trial runs. ehhhhhhhhh I enjoy modern way more but I feel like I'm the only exception for some god damn reason. I just find old yu-gi-oh so fucking slow and there's so many "dead turns". Even with the player or whatever you call it cards, it doesn't really get into a place where it's the knife fight modern yugioh is.

The opposite of my experience.
Games are IMO best designed with opportunities for comebacks and lots of interesting interactions in mind (I.e. the mentality of wanting to optimize the experience for all players or spectators); not designed through the eyes of a player wanting to optimally kill the opponent. That should only be the idea once the game started and you are playing it.
And choosing a format/deck-building is a form of game design. If you play a trading card game the final bit of game design is left to you and your opponent (but without communicating beyond knowing the format you chose are the same) and both being (understandably) intersted in winning, rather than making it fun. This often leads to awkward and frustrating games.

I like Speed Duels specifically because the small deck size did not lead to less varied strategies. I don't mind the modern powerlevel mentality once you are in the driver seat but I hate how modern often boils down to executing your combo and it either working or not. So in spite of the larger decks, it really isn't any more varied because there's a lot of just running three of the best searchers in the archetype. (How do you enjoy that in the physical game with all the shuffling. The few modern games I played were much more of a slog because of this.) Consistency could have just as well been achieved by running fewer searchers and copies of each card and instead have smaller decks. Speed Duels does just that.

At least, I think, sealed formats with pre-balanced decks are the way to go. Instead of everyone designing their knife to kill the other guy, people should design a set of knifes together (and then kill eachother).

Then again, I only play with friends and never actually played in any store or tournament, nor do I play online. (And have no interest in changing that.) So my view is probably a little skewed.
>>
>>98764960
shrug, I think speed duels is great for larping though. no seriously, having fun with some friends pretending to be jaden vs chazz or something is some good fun. then again too most of my decks are suboptimal because i really like nutty engines or combos and I wouldn't have it any other way. fuck playing to win. playing to stick a really fucky endboard 3/10 games or just summoning slifer is my jam.

>>98764660
don't really play much of old style yugioh. I only really know edison and that's mostly gemini spark stuff era right? was it before or after DAD? either way I just don't really like old yugioh with dead turns. i feel like im in the minority here but nuyugioh feels like a game of chicken or a one inch knife fight, just one bad misplay cost you the whole game but there's so much pressure and intensity in the interactions that it's fun and I will fully admit i love completely piling on an opponent. going first and going full combo is euphoric or even the they mistime a handtrap at the wrong place where you can go full gas because you baited them and it's great.

it can't, again the deck is just shittier lunalight
>princess and call are the only real searchers the deck has
>call is OPT
>war chief can only set spells/traps, and all the spells you run are quick plays ie you can't use them that same turn (she can also set polymerization)
>spiritualist needs to be summoned by her own effect to search, and she can only search poly (lol)
>the pendulums have decent effects, but can't be searched/scaled from deck reliably
>secret arts is just an archetypal poly, and while its other effect really helps out the deck, you need to find a way to send it to grave because you can't use both effects the same turn
>it has two locks, and ZERO going first endboard pieces, it's strictly an otk deck
>they actually printed some cards for it in DOOD, but they're also just meant to help you otk
>it's not consistent enough to run a lot of handtraps, non-engine and boardbreakers, and lacks the gas to push past a board with engine
amazoness needs a complete overhaul
lunalight had solid foundations, it was actually used as a rank 4/link engine by many decks due to it, hell, some of its cards got banned and limited over the years due to how good they were
they also don't mind going first, since liger + s:p/bagooska is a solid board

seriously, just play lunalight

rewatching DM right now and it always gets me how much of a cheapskate Pegasus is in how he ran Duelist Kingdom in regards to how he treated the contestants, asshole gets a big honking cruise ship to take everyone over but only provides actual rooms for Weevil/Haga and Rex/Ryuzaki and then once everyone's on the island proper provides no shelter or provisions for anyone, and that's not even getting into the whole Player Killer system or how eliminated players are treated

like I get the whole thing is a complete scam on Pegasus's part where no one is supposed to win but him(whether it be the anime's goal of getting the Millenium Puzzle or the manga's goal of getting control of Kaiba Corp and its Solid Vision technology) but man is that scuzzy behavior
>>
>>98766593
Most kids knew they weren't making it past their first duel, so they wouldn't need rooms, iirc boats were running from pegasus island to japan on the hour, so there would be no issue as long as they brought a couple energy bars and some water, unironically who the fuck goes on a trip without supplies? Not even dumb foids leave home without their credit card and phone. People could also drop from the tournament at any time.

Pegasus probably expected only 10 or so people to make it to day two, which would be easy to handle since he lives in a castle. And the island itself can provide nourishment if you can hunt for it, mako was cooking fish and vegetables. Mai actually brought food, a tent and even a fucking portable shower.

Are they though. The modern "Toon" deck uses practically none of the old cards. Its basically a completely different archetype except it hijacks the name of the old one, really hate how they do that and dont even try to integrate the old stuff in a meaningful way.
>>
>>98767250
the modern toon deck actually uses the gimmick of the toons jumping back into toon world every time someone so much as snorted in their direction. the old toons were nothing like how they were in the original In terms of playstyle.

Is Dungeon Dice monsters gameplay fun?
>>
>>98769128
No. If you've played Deltarune (I don't give a shit how others feel about it, the comparison is there) it's like a significantly slower version of the Roulxs Kaard encounter in Chapter 2. Your basic win condition is the same since swarming the field with low level monsters can literally lock your opponent out of playing the game entirely, but there is random chance in whether or not you can even afford to move your pieces, let alone summon more. It is cool on paper but dogshit in execution.
>>
>>98769428
It would need a complete rules redesign.
>>
>>98769428
Shoutouts to the strongest monster in that entire game
>>
>>98766476
You bring up a good point. Even thinking about it just in general, Lunalight really is modern day Amazoness (in terms of intended play design I mean, not necessarily card quality)
>>
>>98769128
DDM has a lot of cool ideas but its overly reliant on RNG from rolling the dice to do anything which not only murders the pacing of the game(and this is from someone who prefers the slower pace of the early days of the TCG) but also means that odds are whoever manages to get a couple lucky rolls first will probably be able to snowball their way to an easy victory

I don't think it'd require a full on rules rewrite like >>98770078 but it definitely would need some mechanics changed to reduce said reliance on RNG
>>
>>98770673
Yeah, it has too much reliance on RNG and board movement limits to allow more variety in gameplay. It has a lot of cool ideas that don't work well blended together.
Maybe if it was more like the RPG Capsule Monsters game it could work better. Maybe premade maps with obstacles and a different summoning method could fix some major problems.
>>
>>98771696
Duelist of the Roses would be another point of reference for a potential rules redesign. Maybe use its automatic +3 stars per turn and free movement of 1 as standard and 2 on favorable terrain, with the Summon Crests of Dungeon Dice Monsters dice changed out for just the terrain function (movement crests remaining for bonus movement?).
>>
>>98771696
>Unify all crests as Unallocated Crests during your roll. You only roll 2 dice to accommodate this change, instead of 3.
>Allocate Crests to individual types (Summon, Attack, Defense, Progress, etc) during your upkeep/standby. All unallocated crests MUST be allocated during this time.
>Summon Crests can be collected. You must pay crests equal to the level of the monster you want to summon
>Allow players to summon over enemies' tiles, by paying an extra Summon Crest for each tile they summon over, to get around the aforementioned auto-loss problem

I think that changes like that alone would do a lot of legwork, since the game's biggest problem is the total lack of consistency. Like they even show it off in the anime where Yugi gets RNGcucked multiple times in a row.

Has anyone here jumped from the TCG to OCG before?
I don't play the game in person anymore, and if I did I play older decks. I mostly collect the cards these days. I'm thinking it would be wiser to collect OCG going forward even though I don't know Japanese.
>>
>>98774485
The people that do are a minority amongst a minority of players. There isn't really an OCG scene in the west nor on most online simulators. If you wanna get that general feel then you could just play Master Duel instead, which (while being distinct from the OCG and TCG), *FEELS* like an amalgamation of both formats.

If it's just for collecting purposes then yeah, just pick up some OCG cards for a fraction of the price of their TCG counterparts. As long as you're not accumulating them with the delusion that they'll increase in value over time, it's all about what looks good in your collection.

Well if you live in the US enjoy getting fucked by the tariffs.
If you only collect then who gives a fuck? (not in a mean way) It's just cardboard that's going to sit in a closet somewhere that you'll never/rarely look at, much less play with, that will the same as cards in any other language for you. Not like you care what text is on the card or know anything about them.
That all said IMO if you're getting cards just to have cards then it says to me that this "collection" doesn't mean much to you and missing the point of collecting which is to have something that means something to you. At some point you have to realize when you're actually just hoarding rather than collecting and if you're just feeding a problem. If money is getting tighter for you then you're better off stopping rather than trying to import product.

Cyberse contract witch, ideally you run 3 pre-preparation and 2-3 ragged records too, and you have to go for the "long" combo now.
>normal ice, summon ext, add sword
>ice + ext into witch (this is why you don't run twins anymore), dump a spell to add habakiri
>reveal, summon saji, tribute it, add prayers
>activate prayers, choose both effects, tribute habakiri, add futsu, summon saji
>on resolution you add ritual
>ritual summon futsu by sending kusanagi and aramasa, CL1 kusa CL2 ara, add the other copy of murakumo (or wousu, if you run that) and grab ritual
>now ritual summon murakumo from deck by using futsu
>on resolution you add mirror and summon futsu back
>ritual summon habakiri by using murakumo as tribute, on resolution you add prayers/purification and summon murakumo back
You get the 3 ritual snakes, saji and witch. From here you can link witch and habakiri into dyna mondo, then use sword to grab another copy of ice, overlay into duo drive to add cross and node, then summon node to send duo drive and summon any other name, overlay them into detonator, and then shuffle back sword and ext with cross for a draw.
You can also use witch and habakiri for w:p, who can quick link into quartet in bloom next turn, and she can bring back w:p (with her negate now live) and any of your mitsu names (murakumo for the raigeki, or kusanagi to grab any of your cards from grave/banishment), with zero downsides since w:p is a formidable endboard piece and the small snakes can still tribute themselves to tank a hit for the big ones.

Mind you that KotFI is still the better bridge, since it's entirely possible for you to not draw a single spell. However this spell-heavy version of the deck removes mirror's garnet status, since you can toss it as witch's cost then shuffle it back while doing your combo.
>>
>>98783921
Great explanation, anon. Have you got a list, at least for the extra deck?
>>
understanding chains is easy, understanding timiing...a little bit harder.
>>
>>98784260
That's because people treat timing like it is its own thing, while ignoring how Priority works (if not being completely oblivious to the concept).

>Turn player gets priority
>Mandatory trigger effect(s)
>Pass priority to their opponent
>Mandatory trigger(s)
>Pass priority back
>Optional trigger effect(s)
>Pass priority back
>Optional trigger(s)
>Pass priority back
>Spell Speed 2+ effects (priority is passed back-and-forth from each effect at this point)

Timing is piss-easy when you actually understand how chains are constructed, which entails understanding priority. But people skip teaching priority when teaching new players.

When did your proverbial coma begin?
>>
>>98784712
Not that rich
>>98784726
March 2025 but just give me a simple rundown, I've been playing casually on and off before that so I wasn't even really paying attention to the meta, just my own petdecks.
>>
>>98784955
I don't need that much, just 3 Starlight Overframe The Great Gallant Bandit, 3 Starlight Pot of Sloth and 3 Hey, Space Trunade!
>>
>>98767895
NTA but I think he meant actually supporting old cards like they did with the new Ra support. You still need to use the OG Ra for that to function.

I guess they could've made it so the old monsters can now do all the stuff the new ones can.
>>
>>98784955
Right, so you probably get the gist of things right now then. Just in case you've been playing with your eyes closed somehow, I'll get this out of the way; More turn 0 plays, More generic and compact engines (Azamina directly bridges into Dragoon thanks to DMOD for instance), more Mulcharmy relevance.

Ritual of Light and Darkness (ROLAD) piles and Elfnote are the two biggest meta contenders right now. Branded ROLAD, Azamina ROLAD, Sneedsmith ROLAD, Azamina Mitsurugi ROLAD to name a few. I'm pretty sure that Angelechy ROLAD is also a thing since they don't give a single solitary fuck about their extra deck. Black Chaos gives them a free towers that can just nuke 2 cards off the opponent's field with nothing they can do about it, and they can get the ritual monsters looping on turn 0 for removal and to protect Mind Shuffle. I am absolutely sick of seeing ROLAD everywhere I go, so I'm a little bit biased on that particular topic. It's fragile in that it falls apart if you can keep Mind Shuffle off of the field and completely dies to Evenly Matched, but it's extremely resilient in general and has recursion thanks to their Summoned Skull.

Elfnote plays like a more conventional meta deck. It farts out negates from the extra deck. It just synchro spams until it gets what it needs on the field. I would like to give the deck credit in saying it does more, but it really do just be farting out negates like every other Synchro deck in the damn game.

We're about to get hit with Toon FTKs since they only banned one of their FTK vectors (Beelze) while leaving multiple others open (however, banning Beelze also removes Angelechy FTK as an option). Namely Dark Eradicator Warlock and a few Creature Swap-like cards that make Shadow Toon lethal first-turn damage. The best we can hope for is an emergency list that hits Dark Eradicator and Shadow Toon.
>>
>>98785364
Also, more Mulcharmies are seeing play, primarily because of ROLAD. Purulia doesn't completely suck cock anymore because deck have been summoning from the hand quite often, and a few upcoming options will make Meowlz playable (Xenovader, the eternal Maliss, etc)

I forgot to mention it but there's a few more things you can do with that board.
>use habakiri and murakumo to overlay into photon lord, summon sword and overlay it with saji into duo drive, attach a material from grave, detach the 2 ryzeal names (important) to search node and cross, summon cross and send witch to summon another ryzeal from grave, then overlay detonator and attach a material, then shuffle sword and ext to draw 1
>use habakiri and murakumo to link into knightmare phoenix, use witch and phoenix to link a bao a qu(te), use her effect to summon back murakumo, summon sword and search another ice, overlay sword and saji into duo drive, detach 2 to search node and cross, summon node and send duo drive to summon another name from grave, overlay into detonator in the extra zone (important),, shuffle sword and ext to draw 1, in the end phase summon a bao a qu(te) back
The last board is mostly a meme, but i WILL shove this cute blind child in every single deck i build, luv me alt art a bao a qu(te).

Also every time you send with node you can send the ice you searched (to keep duo drive with a material) OR another card from hand, but i'd rather keep ice for follow up next turn, since most of the time i do shuffle back 2 ryzeal names.
Absolutely do send a mulcharmy if you have one however.

>contact fuse chorozo (level 4 tuner) by sending lyna and requiem to grave
the extra summon can be literally anything, even a handtrap

I can give you some pointers, but you'll have to decide how to fill out the rest.

First, here's how a uninterrupted board should look:
>ice/bonfire
>detonator (3 mats), duo drive (1 mat), cross, futsu, purification, photon lord (2 mats), 3 additional cards in hand (wousu/murakumo, ice, random draw from cross shuffling back ext and sword)
>habakiri/ragged records/pre-preparation
>detonator (4 mats, one of them being mereologic), futsu, purification, i:p, 2 additional cards in hand (wousu/murakumo, random draw from cross shuffling back duo drive and sword)

Pic attached are the bare basics IMO. 13 spells (before staples) is a little over a fourth of your deck, so you should always draw at least one for witch's cost.
Some people run 2 murakumo, but at my locals wousu is a necessity, as it's full of people playing either lunalight or mitsurugi, both easy to learn and absurdly strong for how cheap they are.
When you do the habakiri line, you have to send something with ext to summon it, and here's where you could send twins, but i would rather send mereologic for the negate or vallon for the backrow pop. Either card forces an interaction going second, whereas twins does not.
Tachyon is a starter, but locking yourself into xyz can be bad depending on how your extra deck is built. Still, 1 copy and dragluxion + masquerade in the extra is always required if you want both halves of the deck to bridge to each other cleanly.
Witch is your ryzeal bridge to mitsurugi, and you can use her to keep climbing or as fodder for node's effect.
Dugares pulls triple duty (quadruple if you consider it a handtrap magnet), it'd be foolish not to run it.
Dyna, i:p and s:p are a package deal more or less, they have a permanent place in the deck regardless of how you build it.

The rest is up to you, personally i'm running gorgon, phoenix and a bao a qu(te), but w:p + quartet is also a decent pick. It's only 3 slots, you should have no issues filling them out.

I tried to build a deck consisting solely of fairies back when solfachord got new support, and i got really close to making it work, but there were a few problems with it.
>ostinato can only bridge me to solfachord IF i choose not to run dawn angel kambi
>ostinato IS the reason to run melodious in this deck, as a normal summoned refrain only leads to schuberta
>primoa is EARTH, were she LIGHT i could have bridged through starring knight
>there aren't a lot of generic fairy xyz or link monsters
If apollousa was still legal, i could absolutely take this shit to locals and steal a few wins with it, but unfortunately she will rot in jail forever.

Now you might be asking, why am i so adamant on using kambi? Several reasons; without exceed the pendulum, there's no other way to bridge melodious to solfachord.
She's a free special summon if all monsters i control are fairies or my field is empty.
A normal summoned refrain can be turned into full combo thanks to her, as she tributes herself to bring out primoa. Similarly a handtrapped primoa can turn into mirage lights (with majesty hyperion in grave) if you have kambi in hand, which seems weak but can REALLY stump the opponent if you have a few heralds in hand.

Basically kambi is just a really good card for fairy decks, and without her my deck turns into a generic pendulum pile instead.

Genuine noob ruling question:
>normal summon dragonic warrior, use ef (discard a card to special 1 lvl 4 or lower dragon from deck but negate its effects) to special red rose dragon
>make a lvl 7 synchro
>red roses effect still activates in grave
Why is this if his effects are negated by the effect of the dragonic warrior? Is it because he is no longer on the field, or the warrior only negates effects that activate on summon?
>>
>>98793351
The former, cards tend to "drop" any lingering effects on them when they swap zones or go face-down.
>>
>>98793351
>>98793408
oh, wait, I think I misunderstood what you meant. Essentially the effects of red rose ON THE FIELD are negated, but the moment it goes to the graveyard, face-down then flipped back up, banished etc. the effects it might have from there are live.

How to make Yu-Gi-Oh more interesting:

Once per turn, you can activate 1 Trap Card from your hand as if it had been previously set on the field.

>What about Continuous Trap floodgates?
They get banned with this announcement. They will not be missed.

>Why?
Handtraps have been around for an extremely long time and are very explicitly and very clearly not going away, while genuine trap cards have been heavily on the decline. May as well give them some handtrap functionality so they can actually be useful outside of the odd searchable.

I'd enjoy it and I think it has some genuine merit ALONGSIDE TCG.
I definitely prefer the style of banlist/points over the TCG way of limits. One of my issues with TCG and like is that every deck gets any cards so there's no consolations you need to make to play the "best" generic cards alongside the best archetype or engines in a vacuum.
The fact that they give us points for cards on release makes it so we don't know the format 4-6 months before it drops and makes things feel a little fresher.
My only negative is the loss of pend/links, but I've pretty much gotten over being a crybaby about that. Kind of surprised there isn't a community 'expansion' for them.

It is a nice palette cleanser format. Some people will describe it as "TCG-lite" like that's a bad thing, but having a format where you don't need to worry about 10 million handtraps, Droll as a guaranteed card in every deck, X Y or Z number of engines haphazardly crammed together, (more) Turn 0 bullshit, and random bridges into shit like sneedsmith or Dragoon is nice. >Konami released even more Medius lore slop
>literally hundreds of other decks still starving for even a scrap of support because they're close to unplayable in modern game
I think it's finally time to give it a rest with this game, like forever I mean. It's really going nowhere, decks that are already viable get support for no reason because "the lore has to go on" meanwhile I'm still stuck with my Raidraptors hoping one day it will get something because it's just so outclassed. There is no point in waiting for infinity when you don't even have it guaranteed if the support for your favorite deck will ever come, and if the support will actually make the deck matter long run and not just be a new flavor of the month. Doesn't need to be meta, just be powerful enough to compete. And the game itself isn't really all that enjoyable since the game now is just go fish, whoever draws better cards in opening hand wins... So at that point why even stick around?
>>
>>98811901
The irony of calling anything slop with that pic, I get the sentiment tho, the new shit reads like custom cards from 2010s
>>
>>98811901
>calling anything slop while posting sloppa

Yeah it might be time for you to give things a break if all you care about is a single deck and feel so attatched to it that you needed to slop out an image about how butthurt you are. It just doesn't seem like a healthy relationship with the game.
Alternatively you grow up and out of LARPing as an anime character (not even an exaggeration here if you're slopping them in as a stand in for you) and find another deck. Not criticizing the archetype, but it's not like it's super unique and doesn't have comparable archetypes. Surely you can find another archetype in the 100s of them in this game.
If you actually take a break you could check in maybe every 6 months to see if they got cards I guess.

question from a non-player:
has there ever been a casual ruleset in which instead of players counting down LP damage from 8000, they instead count UP damage as score, with the player having dealt the most damage either by a set number of turns or when either player's deck runs dry being declared the winner?
>>
>>98813936
No. That probably also wouldn't work out very well since fundamentally you can just summon any card that makes your opponent take damage (see rank 7 burn strats and the new angelechy card) to instantly gain a lead. You'd either need to have a really weird banlist for it to work, or specifically require battle damage.
>>
>>98813966
>specifically require battle damage.
as in damage dealt from monsters' attacks, yes, that'd be the primary stipulation
>>
>>98813968
It'd probably still be a little rough, but play a lot better. You could more broadly expand it to damage inflicted during the damage step (a specific part of attacking) so that SOME effect damage is allowed without turning it into "how many burn effects can I pack into this deck"

At least i can take this honest petdeck to locals and gape unsuspecting people with it. I'm still not sure if i want to run magnet warrior cards in it however, the deck genuinely doesn't need them. It actually wants apollousa and baronne more than it wants block dragon.

>order express shipping on a different website to make sure i get them by Saturday

iirc psychic pile got a big wave of support themed around that loser from the first episodes of 5D's right? Anything for psychics I may have missed since them?

>Link 3 Magistus representing Witchcrafter, Invoked and Endymion
>Also a individual card for Witchcrafter and Invoked each
Based on these two cards, I'm not sure if the still unrevealed Spell Counter support they promissed for this deck will be of any actual help for Endymion...

Yeah, Mitsu and Sky Striker are both good decks to get a casual start with.

Tried it out of curiosity about a year ago.
The regurgitation machine doesn't actually know anything so it can only be as effective as existing content. It would get things about then current TCG metagame wrong such as listing decks that were not actually meta or were upcoming and being speculated.
I feel like I wasted my time trying to course correct the damn thing and I would have been better off spending the same 10 minute chunks watching a dedicated video.
One thing that became apparent is that it doesn't seem to actually know the text on the cards unless you specifically press it to include the context of a card's contents. It's like it knows to use Ash on a starter but just by name. If that starter does 2 things and the other isn't Ash-able it still thinks you can Ash it because it doesn't actually understand the effects/game.
If I had to describe it I would call it like conducting a Clever Hans experiment where the subject is stupid and I'm giving it so many cues that it starts to appear to understand. But that "understanding" falls appear as soon as you do something new like ask it about the new meta.
.
TLDR I thought it was a waste of time and I feel stupid for it. I think I got more out of simply reading the cards to correct it than anything else.

>(3) If this card is sent to the GY: You can banish it, then target 1 "Magistus" or "Witchcrafter" monster in your GY; Special Summon it.
Not sure if it would be worth running Nu-Aruru since it requires a Magistus monster for its self-summon, which isn't a tall order (either Maid) but does pose questions about deck composition. Might be something better reserved for a Magistus-adjacent build rather than a Pure one. The (3) effect is neat though, just a tiny bit of extra advantage off of Terracotta resolving to make going into Selene a little easier.

Is Spirit Charmers fun

One of the faggots at my locals runs onomat and routinely cheats because all of his cards sound like he's having a stroke and he capitalizes on the fact.
