You already asked this anon but because it'll get the thread chugging along:

Leaker man comes out and says "HEY GUYS BAD NEWS, NEXT EDITION WORLD'S GONNA BE BLOWN UP AND REASSEMBLED INTO "BATTLE WORLD" then specified that no characters will be changing, sigmar might or might not die, and a bunch of other more in depth shit. (Game gets edgier and cribs 40k for most of the bullshit) supposedly a timeskip but again, no characters are going away so, eh.

Starting box contents has been like, several different variants of chaos bullshit which is odd because the order of operations puts death as the next starter box.

There's talk of AOS being rebranded to "The Last World" which frankly seems like a load of shit, changing boxes and brands on all of this shit would be the absolute most pants of head retarded shit ever so it's more than likely just shit like "skaventide" or "necroquake" as an event.

Basically in lore realms go bye bye in some way shape or form, Sigmar might or might not die, things get edgier and it's a new edition. I dunno if anyone's said anything about Gameplay but the guy who leaks this shit knows dickall about AOS so I doubt he'd know his tits from his taint.

People tell me skaven are weak but it really doesn’t feel that way to me. Granted I’ve only player spearhead so far but looking at the warscrolls it feels like they can do a lot. Personally I’ve been winning spearhead through sacking clan rats and just using my superior numbers to hold more points down and do more objs.

So it’s basically a nothing burger? Kinda sounds like a fairly standard new edition with more of a lore shakeup than normal.
>>
>>98758529
More or less, I don't imagine they'll be changing too much of the gameplay basically just doing a bigger lore gimmick for this edition. Units ain't gonna get squatted that already weren't, armies they literally just put out won't go away, and realistically it's still gonna be Age of Sigmar because it would be nigh impossible to do ANOTHER rebrand on shit like this.

It's just another Necroquake or Age of the Beast.

>>98758987
I’ve been talking and posting some skaven stuff for about a month which is how long I’ve been in the hobby. I’ve usually gotten at least a few responses. I think that while the skaven are beloved they have been discussed to death to the point where it’s frankly not too interesting to talk about. There’s like 10 different factions that need more love and the skaven are doing the best out of any faction in terms of having a large model selection and quality. We really only need a pestilens update and the range is fully up to date. The other thing is that since skaven are so popular people probably already talk about them in person at their flgs and play against them. It’s more interesting to talk about the rarer factions you don’t see often.
>>
>>98759390
I would love to see plague monks that were designed in this century lol.
>>
>>98758987
Whay do you guys think are the most and least discussed factions on /aosg/? New reveal or rumour talked excepted, of course.
I feel like fyreslayers have been punching above their weight, though that may have been because of the abovementioned rumours functioning as a sword of damocles for the last two years and spurring a good bit of discussion because of it.
Gits I think come up fairly often. CoS too, of course.
Least talked about probably has to be slaanesh. Tzeentch talk too is sparse but every so often there will be some discussion about how to expand the range.
>>
>>98759408
Coming from vermintide 2 I really badly wanted to use plague monks since they’re absolutely terrifying in that game. Seeing their battle scroll abd learning that they are a poor man’s clan rats was brutal. I couldn’t even cope with them having good models lol.
>>
>>98759425
Slaanesh is the least talked about, can’t say who’s the most talked about though. Maybe ogors?
>>
>>98759425
I think the chaos god factions in general are kinda overlooked since they all have counterparts in 40k. If you’re a big nurgle fan you’d probably go death guard unless you really like a fantasy setting. I think most guys who build these armies build it after whatever their first army is. Hence why they get less discussion. Also I haven’t seen much nighthaunt talk.
>>
>>98759430
Absolutely brutal stuff. I guess we’ll have to cope by painting clanrats green.
>>
>>98759425
least discussed would be the ranges that have the least updates or haven't had one in a while

>Seraphon
>Nighthaunt
>DoT
>DoK
>BoK
>>
>>98759438
I’d guess that CoS gets the most consistent talk. Ogors probably got a boost from their new stuff. Also stormcasts are talked about a decent amount although with a lot more negativity then most.
>>
>>98759450
On the bright side at least we know an update is an inevitability rather than a guess. No way gw will shaft the skaven.
>>
>Skaven don't have updated plaguemon--ACK
>>
>>98759445
Really? I feel like if you're really into one of the chaos gods you'd go aos/fantasy since they're more their own thing there rather than just marines painted a different colour. The tzeentch egyptian space marines feel a whole lot more egyptian space marine than tzeentch to me for example, if that makes sense.
>>
>>98759496
True but 40k is many times more popular than AoS. It’s just easier to find 40k kits and 40k players so new player would probably just pick the more popular one since finding a game can be hard. I live in Dallas and I still struggle with finding games. Cant imagine what living in a smaller city would be like.
>>
>>98759425
I think the last time IJ came up was the rumor of a wyvern leader. Nothing before or since unless I bring them up myself

KO is the least discussed faction and probably the least popular overall, and it's not close.

>how did they get the look of the infantry so wrong? i feel like dwarf warriors have to be one of the easiest things to get right, there are so many good examples
I think that's part of the problem, there's a billion generic dwarf warrior / gunner designs so they tried to do a twist to it.
Honestly they should've either done basic ass normal warriors OR went full balls to the wall and went for an entirely "different" take on basic dwarfs. The way clanshields and ESPECIALLY clangunners are right now they are left in this awkard middle field. You can't arm your thunderers with these crazy borderline scifi guns and then have them wear jumpsuits with some iron plates slapped on them.
Either go full traditional like the heroes, or full aos bullshit like the drakkar. Can't fencesit.
>>
>>98759706
i tried to do my speed paints method but it doesnt have enough texture so it ended up looking like a dark green mess since it just spilled over onto the hands and such so i just slapped my bright green on it and il probably try to do a tiny bit of lime green streaks on it or something, i dont really try to keep things clean
>>
>>98759764
The best method I found for skaven green glass was a dark green base, a half moon highlight of some average green and then some white in the opposite corner as a fake glare.. it’s what I used on my warlock last thread and it seems alright for telescopes and goggles. I’m hoping it works on the glass balls the gas rats have. Paints I used were caliban green, warpstone glow, and white scar

Is it just me, or do the Helsmiths rules kinda suck? The whole DP mechanic feels very win-more/lose-more, like the Dark Eldar's power from pain mechanic in 10ed(?). I have to play the first half of the game with my hands tied behind my back, all so I can play the second half of the game with the baseline benefits basically every other faction has.

its not you, they suck. its pretty universally recognized, even by GW as they just buffed all 4 subfactions, but it probably still wasnt enough, even combined with their armies several waves of points drops. demonic power is just a fundamentally flawed mechanic that doesnt get good until the most important part of the game is already over

Looking for color scheme suggestions for darkoath/Slaves. Mostly I want something that isn't any of the following:

- Have already done orange and blue CoS/sce w. Green trim
- Have already done classic blue-black armor with gold trim chaos warriors
- copper nurgle w. Agricultural theme
- have done red with black/white checkers for gits

I'm trying not to just do the box colors but black/gold w. Red cloth and lava bases is so classy for chaos

They used to suck. Even before buffs they have been more than decent for the last battle scroll update. Taar's Grand Forgehost is the 7th or 8th highest win rate subfaction right now. Like KBs, they spent a long time after release being bad but they are currently not bad at all, although the ancestral memory of sucking has remained as a sort of persecution complex. In a way, life has mimicked art.

Taar's Grand Forgehost works because the battle traits aren't dogshit. The buffs are still slow-rolled out, but they're not dependent on a finite resource you have to generate to put yourself on a baseline with everyone else.
That being said, it does have two big problems. The first is that it cuts down on your list-building options in a range that's already small as is. The second is that it still suffers from the point cost cuts making the faction feel more like a horde faction. As a result, every list you make winds up being more or less the same.

>>98759877

I’ve never had a problem with there being dwarves or elves of color in AoS. My problem is with *The Rings of Power* and their pathetic justification for making dwarves and elves pitch-black that phrase destined to go down in history as infamous: "Tolkien never said that..." Not to mention their hypocrisy in making a huge, fanfare-filled deal about having diverse dwarves and elves, only to feature—so far—just one dwarf and one elf of color across the entire series. That’s without even mentioning that the show is a piece of crap dragged out of the foulest sewer, and a total, absolute insult to Tolkien’s original work

Finished up my warlock engineer from yesterday. I used screaming bell for the chest armor and I like to imagine he used some scrap metal from a destroyed screaming bell to craft his armor. Shit especially hurts when older people always ask if I’ve got a girlfriend or if I’ve been to any parties. It is what it is I guess. At least I’ve got frens to show my rats to here.

I understand how you feel, i was and still am in a similar situation. but to be honest chances are the types of people you meet at parties or going out or whatever arent going to be ur vibe and will likely choose not to be friends with you anyway. i made an effort to go out and make friends and did briefly, but eventually just drifted apart

just do what u enjoy, its one of the great inequalities in this world that some interests are massively more socially rewarding than others.

Alright thanks Anons. I’m feeling better about things. To be fair there are far more degenerate and destructive hobbies than Warhammer and tabletop gaming. At least I get some creativity and sense of accomplishment. I won’t lie I still feel left out seeing other groups of zoomers all hanging out and having fun but it is what it is. I have at least made friends with a few boomers at my flgs. Last weekend I played my first game of Bolt Action with a boomer and he gave me a free mode he 3d printed and invited me over to his house. It feels insane how friendly boomers. Is this just a tabletop games thing or is the zoomer/boomer culture divide this strong. Talking to zoomers is like a humiliation ritual half the time. I just get hit with the fucking fluoride stare.
>>98760256
Speaking of holy armor I was thinking of doing a royal/holy guard stormvermin paint job. I know albino stormvermin guard the council of 13 so I need white fur. I also want to use screaming bell for the armor since my lore will be that they essentially have armor from screaming bells the grey seers blessed them with. Can anyone help recommend paints for the fur and what other colors I should use for leathers, weapons, cloth, etc.
>>
>>98760466
It's a bit of both boomer culture and tabletop game thing, being a social hobby after all.
>>
>>98759780
Nah I think folks just generally agree on that, they're lacking in any real "strengths" as an army since even if you get max DP on a unit generally it's not even too much of an improvement.

Like you said, you're basically climbing uphill to be at the normal power level of everyone else.
>>
>>98760291
You're fine man, I've had on and off girlfriends and have been a massive fuckoff nerd who stays inside for AGES. Thankfully I've got buddies who I can have my own parties with, I'd rather have a small party with 6 people I really enjoy as opposed to like 30 people I barely know.

you might be hyperfixating on the generational divide of zoomers, millenials, boomers, etc. tabletop gaming has a bit more of a leaning towards older dudes in the hobby but but it's as big of a divide on like, who uses facebook and who uses tiktok. as for the fluoride stare thing, that's just people in general, regardless of generation. a lot of people are just kinda dumb and live their life in auto-pilot mode, it is what it is

as for color testing, what i like to do is download the image of the model from GW's site, then use a paint program (CSP is my go to, but anything that has layers and "color" modes for them works too) to test out ideas for what kind of color scheme would look nice. picrel is a shitty mockup i did since i'm also starting to work on a stormvermin unit.
if you want white fur rakarth flesh highlighted with ulthuan grey works pretty well, but as long as you don't use a pure white color it should look more than fine.

That's what it feels like with CoS too, though I think my army might be in slightly better place.
Plus they nerfed the only damage option of the army recently too, while giving a few QoL changes with mage/priest army list option improvements and giving reinforcements to grenadiers.
These new armies are a mess and I bet the new dwarf tome will have same issues.
>>

>That's what it feels like with CoS too, though I think my army might be in slightly better place.

CoS honestly feels like it's all around super fucking strong. They have decent damage, loads of options. Chorfs feel very limited and what you do have is pretty mid. (despite this one dickhead I have to deal with locally who anytime I bitch about a faction being mid he'll be like "nah man you're wrong. Everythings balanced")

I definitely feel a divide between myself and younger zoomers too, the culture gap feels like it gets more and more extreme every year, it’s crazy.
>>
>>98760658
NTA but I'm 31, I'll tell ya shit has both gotten worse and better. I reasonably think people don't really care about your hobbies so much anymore and being into shit that used to be classified as nerd shit is less of a social stigma.

Just keep some deodorant on and shave every now and again and you're fine.
>>
>>98760632
yes, but only as objective/battle tactic grabbers. they're frankly pretty bad in melee, even with the +1 damage on charge, having no rend sucks ass in my experience. (they can just move out of combat during their movement phase though, which is nice if it survives)
the plus side is that they're 100 points and have 2D6+7" movement, so on average it's moving 14 inches and can go over friendly and enemy models. it's ranged attack is honestly pretty good all things considered
>>
>>98760668
It still feels weird how I got to witness in real-time all these nerd hobbies being not only extremely niche, but also carry social stigma, to suddenly almost overnight becoming just accepted into social norm and basically paraded everywhere by people who have surface level interest in said hobbies.

as many boingrot bounders and squig herd as you can stomach (i personally run 30 bounders and at least 20 herd in every list). they are by far the armies best units. troggs are good too. i would also recommend always including at least 2x20 moonclan stabbas in every list regardless of theme.

lots of the support characters and units like snuflers are kind of a trap, you waste more points getting them than you get value out of them in a game.

pic related is my own personal tier list. just my opinions, i dont base it on whatever tournament guys are doing, i stopped following that stuff years ago, so it may not be accurate to what everyone else thinks but this is where i stand on the units in the army having played it for 10 years
>>
>>98760709
What makes the EEs and all the spiders so bad?
>>
>>98760709
jesus christ are manglers that bad?
>>
>>98760715
spiders are down there for a couple reasons, the biggest one being that those models are fuckin oooold and probably not long for this world, so i will never recommend spiders to a new player until GW redoes those kits and proves they actually want spiders to stick around. until then, im firmly in the camp of believing wolfs were meant to replace them and the spiders will be phased out sooner or later.

but also spider shit is just notoriously pillow fisted and has bad support, lost its medium combat character, mediocre rules. flinger and naked arachnarocs have a few interesting tricks so they get bumped up a rank. would actually maybe be even higher if they werent on impossible to use dinner plate bases. like yeah you can move over terrain but...can you? physically? base size is a stat that doesnt show up on whiteboard warhammer, as as someone who's played mawkrushas and vulchas, lemme tell you, its one of the most important stats on the model. those huge bases are very difficult to use.

i hate to be a doomer, i own 3 of them, but yeah. the 4e rewrite did them dirty. they've dropped 100pts so far over the edition and i still dont know if i take them.

the boss version ranks higher because artifact/trait caddy and he actually gets impact hits unlike the non hero version, but unfortunately because its 4e, once per (army) on those impact hits. the other two mangler bosses have to gently sashay into combat, only one gets to careen.
>>
>>98760732
do any of the heroes for squigs help em out? (I ask because I have 2 manglers and might have just gotten 2 more for 90 bucks)
>>
>>98760732
>>98760720
and one of the reasons they rank as lowly as they do is because they are a missile, you are trading points for fast damage. but so are boingrot bounders, so you have to compare the mangler to a unit of boingrot bounders (they're pretty much the same pts 1 mangler vs 5 bounders)

the boss actually does okay, but only if he gets the once per turn ability, as well as his once per army buff which helps squigs out quite a bit if you have a lot of them, so a single boss mangler is actually solid, but you get extreme diminishing returns beyond that, and the non boss mangler is just a wet fart all around
>>
>>98760765
Can 5th hit please, I want my ghosts and goblins to be less shit.
>>
>>98760770
They'll be monkey-paw'd to be worse. My favorite edition was 2nd and gits were awful there too. I think I only remember them not being remotely shit during 3rd edition, which got them nerfed despite never being the top army.
>>
>really like vampires
>blood knights are one of the coolest models in the game
>the spearhead no longer exists and everything i look up about the army is just skeletons and zombies
i just want some cool vampires
>>
>>98760778
Vampires are strongest part of the game, don't worry anon. Blood knights, ever since the tome was renamed Soulblight, been consistently best unit in the army.
>>
>>98760746
the heroes are generally all useful. squig boss has a very strong buff. rabble rowza is great for mangler bosses, squig herd, trugg, dankholds, etc. speeding up the army always helps, and you can combine his effect with the squig bosses effect for even more speed if needed. so there are buffs you can put into them, they just tend to get out competed by the smaller squigs.

the ball and chains losing 3 attacks, 1 hit, 1 wound and 2 rend in the rewrite really hurt them. but i wouldnt despair, the game gets rewritten frequently enough that they'll probably get a new warscroll or some new bonus rules sooner or later to help them out.
>>
>>98760784
i just wish i could still get the old spearhead for a decent price

kragnos is actually a fantastic unit. he's a nasty beatstick and every unit in the army likes his buff. he can be a good crutch to lean on while you build your army out and figure out what you like. he's also very helpful to the trogg build of gloomspite as they desperately need the speed boost.

im seeing a lot troggs. so to get your army off the ground with what you have, i'd lean into troggs to start. something like pic related, its a monster mash list that utilizes krangos's buff with rabble rowzas taunt to make your big guys extremely fast. the rockguts are gonna be your main scoring units, while the troggs and kragnos are gonna break faces.

one of the hard parts of aos's 4e, is that most armies, and especially gloomspite gitz, are plagued by something called once per turn (army), a qualifier on a lot of unit special rules that make additional inclusions of that unit beyond the first redundant and ineffective. so we've gotta be conscious of that when making your list, if it looks like we're leaving a lot on the cutting room floor, thats a big reason why.

since you dont have any goblins or smaller squigs yet, you're going to have to be agressive on the table since you dont have any screens to shield your units. this is going to be a very pedal to the metal type of army
>>
>>98760960
Part of me regrets not snagging more gitz from stormbringer, also if you're wondering the reason I got dupes or random heroes is because of underworlds. I think if I'd go anywhere I'd probably plonk a reinforced unit of boingrots have the troggs be meaty point monkeys.

It's a real shame manglers are hot shit because honestly there's a few ways you could buff em. Crit mortals, set attack profiles to like... d6+3 or some shit, or just make them hit slightly more consistently or give them double the amount of attacks. I'm not sure I'll be hopping on the gitz train (most of these models were just obtained from trades or dirt cheap, mostly hobby fodder that wound up with enough to have a full army)
>>
>>98760960
Shit I'm sorry, I also didn't say thank you for the input here. apologies, it's late and I probably should get my requisite 6 hours of sleep before work. Thanks anon.
>>
>>98760865
>>98760960
when you're looking to expand your collection, i would decide if you want to remain a generalist dabbling in all elements, or lean in one direction or another with troggs or squigs. if troggs, then pick up trugg, and maybe even another unit of rockguts or fellwaters (although the fellwaters are an old warhammer fantasy kit and may be retired any day now). if squigs, bounders, hoppers and herd are all good, bounders are probably the best bang for the buck since a single box makes a reinforced unit so thats best value for the money.

if you want to remain generalist start getting some hordes of moonclan stabbas. these are useful in any build, but especially if you want to play a board control style list with lots of shaman, which you already have.

wolf stuff is a whole other ballgame, much harder to play. its very fast, but pillow fisted, wolf stuff relies on a sort of alpha pin playstyle where you just gum up the board with cheap wolf bodies and screen out objectives all game. tricky to play, easy to lose with. but droggz fits in any style list thanks to his useful general purpose debuff, and a few wolfs here and there can also fit into most lists since they're cheap.
>>
>>98760865
NTA but if it's already painted then you could try a monster mash with rockguts on obejctives. It should give you a clear imdication of what you like to play with and what to buy next

I think it really boils down to there not really being much to talk about with them. They've had a shit unit release and a terrain piece release, there aren't really any rumors involving them floating around, and they're not really doing anything lore-wise. Hell, GW themselves backtracked the last significant DoK lore development by basically deleting the internal schism in the faction.
I mean, I've talked about how blood hags being elite infantry is anathema to the visual and thematic design of DoK, but there's only so many times you can talk about DoKs entire visual identity being at odds with modern GW's sensibilities. It'd be great if there was more DoK stuff, but the reality is that they're a niche faction comprised (almost) entirely of mostly naked sexy elf women - which basically means GW avoids them like the plague.
>>
>>98761404
>niche faction comprised of X
I mean if you really wanna go this road majority of all factions can be boiled down the same way.
>theyre just demented paladins in golden armor
>theyre just deluded undead who wants to eat flesh
>theyre just fish elves who raid for souls 24/7
>theyre just green dudes who love good fight
>theyre just buffed up dudes who want to chop heads and collect skulls
and the list goes on
it feels like ppl dont even try with dok nowadays. like where are the robed poisoner crone wizard unit? where named high gladiatrix ? where the monsters from broken mother cauldron? where those prominent named hag queens? early summer WD even had cool lore for Draichi Ganeth arena. so fucking cool!
>>
>>98761169
Daughters of khaine are simply not a faction, they're basically just one character, morathi, the units or characters or subfactions underneath her have no interesting traits and the one character they've introduced is so antithetical to the faction than her getting folded into it feels like a letdown.
So of course the only thing there is to say about this faction is how better it's going to be once it's inserted into a larger ecosystem to build some interactions and depth with.

I see you missed the "mostly naked sexy elf women" part. Modern GW doesn't really do sexy women, if they can avoid it. Little Timmy's mom is cool with genocide across multiple realms, but draws the line at a woman showing a little too much skin.
I mentioned it in my post, but the blood hags are great example of this. They consciously chose to make elite infantry fully clothed and heavily armoured... in the faction who treats fighting in little to no armour or clothing as both a display of skill and a show of religious devotion. It spits in the face of what the DoK are supposed to be.

I don't disagree with you, generally, though. But the reality is that GW doesn't want to engage with DoK on any meaningful level, and that drought information and releases translates to limited discourse. Lord knows I'd rather DoK have their range fleshed out with more proper units, but there are a ton of easy options for character model releases that GW simply just doesn't bother exploring or exploiting.
It also doesn't help any that for every one person willing to talk about DoK seriously there's two that are either a Mommy Morathi femdomfag or a whinging pseudo-puritan that will dismiss or deride DoK out of hand. Really poisons the well of discourse pretty quickly.

This is actually one thing that really pisses me off about AoS in general. There's this heavy focus on religion in the setting, but there's little to none of the intrafaith conflicts that could add so much more meaning and depth to that focus.
The whole Morathi v Krethusa schism being scuttled is just a microcosm of the problem. You just feel it more within the DoK because of how ignored they are as a faction.
The whole Hashut being an ancestor god will likely be another case of this. It's an excellent idea with a lot of implications that could flesh out the dwarf factions (especially the HoH and the new Khazalite faction), but it likely won't go anywhere or mean anything being "these factions are enemies".

Yeah I do I also remember this general having this issue with extremes and blowing things out of proportion. Every single day is an Orktober here
>>
>>98762051
None of that has anything to do with changing the name. You can slap on all the "wow if you can't see this..." you like but it doesn't strengthen your argument.
Besides, the shift to mudcore is overstated. We got this thing not half a year ago
Similaely, the grimdarkening is aping 40k, not whfb. Whfb was never grimdark.
>>
>>98762051
>nta anon but you're a fool if you think they're not going to rename the game in the next 10 years

the rumour is that the next edition will have a name change. not within the next ten years retard

It did when it underwent 40kification post 6th edition. It’s part of why most of the vampire stories are so bad.

>>
>>98762207
Yeah but that's the thing, that's not the rumour. No leaker ever claimed such a thing, it's just something that people took and ran with for some reason.
>>
>>98762183
Basically everything wrong with modern GW comes back to 40K. it's their least creative, most profitable product, so GW is forever dreaming of making everything else just as bland and corporate as their flagship setting.
>>
>>98762011
Which subfactions? Troggoths if you run Dankholds which no one does or spiders which are obviously getting squatted?
>>
>>98761946
that absolutely was the case until gw backtracked on it
>>
>>98762515
I don't care for it all personally but imo you can't really call 40k bland or unoriginal. It's just that changing your more niche game(s) to be more like the bigger more popular game is always going to suck, no matter the quality of the bigger game.
I sometimes wonder how stormcast would've been received if space marines didn't exist. Paladins are a pretty standard fantasy trope, and making them art deco of all things is a pretty unique twist. But of course, at the end of the day, space marines DO exist and they're clearly aping them, so it just feels kind of meh.
>>
>>98762550
I mean stormcast would still get some hate since the pivot from warhammer fantasy focused on normal humans doing their best to fight incomprehensible horrors vs the new epic superhumans who annihilate chaos would always ruffle some feathers. Now granted people do kinda downplay that fantasy humans did have a lot of pretty big advantages in terms of tech and magic and people also kinda gloss over cities of sigmar that carries a lot of fantasy’s spirit but that’s public perception for you.
>>
>beardless female dwarfs
is woke dead?!
>>
>>98762605
this has always been the case...
>>
>>98762607
They should still have long braided hair that is visible on the models
>>
>>98762610
I mean, the named hero lady does but the frontline jobbers don't. Helsmith lady doesn't have visible hair because she has her funny big hat.
>>
>>98762550
When I say 40K is bland and unoriginal, I'm not really talking about the original conception of the setting. I'm talking about it's current status as a bland corporate product that gets 90% of it's revenue from reposing the same space marine designs over and over and over and over again. Almost everything modern 40K puts out is just the same characters and same models, same memes and sloppy story developments, regurgitated endlessly.
>>
>>98759313

Agreed but that's another matter.
But yeah look at picrel, really shows the difference braids -even short ones- make on a female dwarf model. While we're at it I also really like the fur lining on her outfit, I wonder if it would help the basic infantry if they also had something like that going on.
>>

>>
>>98762648
I like the angrier depiction but not a particular fan of them being nigh catatonic. I think they're a nice step towards the kind of... Angry over the topness of the fatcasts, alongside being slimcast.
>>
>>98762651
It's Brunhilde-style boob plate; they get it because they are fat, and thus it's not a sexual titillation thing for heterosexual men
>>
>>98762642
??? We only have 6 kits total that aren’t foot heroes (not counting terrain, spells, or kragnos)
>>
>>98762668
they're not fat, they're short and stacked!
>>
>>98762657
It seems like they still have varying degrees of personalities, but they're far more "Gregorian Monk Paladins coming out of the scary monastary to save the village" which is frankly cool as hell
>>

This is the strangest goal I’ve seen someone want out of elves. Like I’m not judging you, but even in 40K the dudes are wearing panties and bras with their power armor so you get desensitized to the sexes of pointy ears.

Man, it's really the double whammy of shitty facial structure and no/short hair that really fucks the female Khazalite dwarfs. I mean, most of the Helsmith shit suffers from the same issue, but at least you can pretend they have a bunch of hair piled up under their tall helmets.

>>98763721
It was brought up in the other thread, but the female champion from the infernal razers is one of the only decent-looking female dwarf faces. I'd prefer she look more feminine, but she still manages to pass the low bar that basically every other female dwarf model fails to clear.
Her concept art has some real "fuck me" lashes, for some reason, though.
>>
>>98763990
the power is always there anon. If there's one thing I always say, you can make just about anything look good if you get in there and follow that old SoB japanese face guide on pretty female faces. I'm sure if someone was dedicated they could make every lady dorf fuckable.

>>98764033

>>98764049
I just want dwarf females to actually look like females. The hair is part of that - even better if they're braided -, but so are things like softer faces and breasts. Part of why the Hjulda model works so well is that she has all three of those things.

yeah, i never judge female models until i see some decent painters get their hands on them.

that said, the vongrim models absolutely understood the assignment when it came to making dwarven women giving them all long braids, a lesson that the helsmiths and khazalites seem to have completely missed. i dont think a single female helsmith model has any visible hair whatsoever, as far as i can tell they're all bald shaven under those helms. they look like little ogres. the khazalites at least have some hairstyles, but for whatever reason they went with short cropped soccer mom hairstyles on most of them instead of anything remotely dwarven.
>>
>>98764077
>single female helsmith model has any visible hair whatsoever

Tbf if a helsmith has no hat, they also have a shaved head so I imagine that's pretty universal with them.

>>
>>98764057
I feel bad for the eavy metal guys who catch a lot of flak for this stuff when of course these are all highly competent people that know the style sucks on female faces. It's just that they're generally mandated to paint in that specific style for marketing reasons. They're able to do more their own thing in more niche releases, and you can really see the insane shit these people are capable of. Darkwater blight templars are a good example.
>>98764077
I don't like the vongrim because their balloons look like backpacks but I do really like the face second from the left on the bottom. Really shows what braids can do.

That's the thing, I'm sure these are all fantastic people but I imagine GW's mandate is "You have to see EVERY DETAIL on a white background. Keep it simple." And it's not like I'm implying I'm some amazing painter, fuck no, I just wish GW would take fucking note of this shit.
>>
>>98764154
Yeah it's probably some shit like that, every detail has to stand out, all the models have to be recognizably part of the same brand and hence the same paint style, etc.
But damn you'd think by now it would have come up in a meeting or something that this simply doesn't look very good on female faces. This is actually costing them money (alright probably not a whole lot but still)

>>
>>98764579
I think the problem is that realism often gets conflated with being logically coherent. A setting doesn't, strictly speaking, have to be "realistic", but it does have to be consistent with its logic. Rules in a setting need to be applied or broken with the same level of consideration.
People, like the fag in >>98763210 image, are fucked from the get-go because they're basically refusing to deal with the setting on its own terms. Instead, they opt to plaster their own arbitrary logic over it and claim the setting is "broken" based on that.

if you're looking for other skin and fur colors though, cadian fleshtone with gorthor brown is a nice color scheme if you want your guy to have a bit more of a saturated look to the skin, but painting them all rakarth flesh with variations of brown fur is a pretty good idea.

The premise is retarded and false.

1) Many empire knightly orders have magical powers (usually the inner circle).
2) Questing knights do not have any magical powers and yet are statistically better fighters (better weapon skill, higher strength).

Grail knights are grail knights because they're the best knights of an entire nation of knights. They're some of the best fighters of the old world -before- receiving the lady's blessings.
