For a short time it used to be fashionable to have some kind of space god in scifi settings. Do you think that adds something to the narrative or do you consider it trite? I'm asking in the context of games especially because I'm seeing the potential to have them as recurring characters between vastly apart locations and times but feel free to talk about your thoughts overall, I'm not your dad.https://youtu.be/y2i3kZVcG5s
>>98761497I guess, tell us about, well, several scifi campaign you run with space gods and how that played out. What was the feedback of the players and how it affected the course of the campaign.
>>98761524I'm currently wrapped up an Exalted campaign, before that it was a smattering of Ryuutama, Dark Heresy, D&D, Traveller and Vampire amongst other things.
>scifi >gods So fantasy
>>98761741Or Star Trek, so, scifi so soft it’s somehow got more magic than actual science fantasy settings.
>>98761750Star Trek is weird because its fans have so much goddamn Attitude about its realism and seriousness and then it's just soul transmigration and Olympian gods and spacetime manipulation out the wazoo
>>98761681How, for example, sci-fi space gods relevant to Ryuutama, the cozy fantasy travel game with special role for GM as GMPC with basically divine intervention mechanics? What was the feedback from the players about the supposed sci-fi space gods in Ryuutama, and how did it affect the course of the campaign?
If there's magic like in starfinder, it makes sense that there's gods as well, but as usual, you sooner or later have to wonder if they're not just to be considered really powerful aliens or something.
>>98761970Same issue for fantasy. Gods are just Big Guys .
>>98761776I almost said ‘star trek is consistent’ but they very very much aren’t.It’s a high fantasy setting in space, more than anything. It even has orcs, elves, succubi, the whole shebang
9876187898761524Why is this nigga seething?
>>98761750Any work of media that revolves around an impossible aspect to function is itself impossible, thus a work of fantasy. Moreover, a work that has nothing to do with the systematic study of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment has no right having "science" in its genre.
>>98761776Star Trek fans want the entire series to be serious and logical, but unfortunately the original series did a bunch of weird shit because they had to borrow shit from other sets on the backlot to save on budget, and future series kept making references to those episodes instead of just writing it off as a wacky part of the early part of the show like how early Dr Who was more of an educational show before it became more plot driven. My problem is with the episodes that aren't as wacky in appearance but is a mundane version of those episodes under the guise of superscience, like when the crew is exposed to a lifeform that makes them act drunk and they solve it at the end of the episode by unintentionally time traveling by restarting their engine cold (something that definitely would've been discovered in testing).
>>98762186Star trek is pretty consistent for a sci fi TV series.
>>98762822Lmfao
>>98762582Either he's trying to farm for content or he genuinely wants to read some good old storytimes but doesn't know how to ask. Or he's a retard.
>>98763948He's clearly trying to be an asshole by trying to punish OP for asking a question then sealioning to kill discussion.
>>98763999So, a retard.
