Yeah I have my own chaos god. His name is Blalice, he's the chaos god of hatred. He HATES chaos and is always fighting the other gods and he always wins because he hates them so much (just like how I hate my dad fuck you dad I don't even like softball). He hates religion so he hates all his worshippers, he only likes people that hate all gods (fuck you grandma i hate when mom take me to church with you it's dumb). His color scheme is black and white because it's the coolest color combination and it makes my minis super easy to paint.

A lot of those are normal words, though. How do they protect a copyright more than "devastators" or "tactical marines"?
>>
>>98776836
Eradicators can't be copywritten
Primaris Eradicators can
Primaris is a nonsense word that doesn't exist in the English canon, so throwing it in front of a verb can be defended in court
>>
>>98776836

Those words may be "normal words" but they're far far less used than "tactical" and "marine" and GW's lawyers would argue that since these words are almost never used today except in reference to their copywritten IP, then using them for gain n anything even tangentially similar to said IP is infringement. Just j*wish tricks anon.

If a Catalan company makes a line of "Primaris Soldats Espacials" and a line called "Secundari Soldats Espacials" that are slightly smaller but clearly meant to be used alongside the "Primaris" ones, yea GW would have a hard time getting that copyright enforced.
They could still sue, but it'd be very difficult to get the case anywhere that they'd want it to go.
Context and intent matter a lot in copyright.

They were made up of those exiled before Corax was found or those who didnt match Corax vision for his legion. So all the mk2 mk3 armour. Mk4 was given mainly to those favored by Horus, mk6 was a newer mark released after they wete exiled.
Mk5 is just stopgap methods used to keep the armour repaired. Molecular bonding studs, external cabling, etc. It was also stolen from traitor/night lord armouries near the end of the heresy

>Context and intent matter a lot in copyright.
Brand confusion matters even more. You think all the companies making their totally not 40k space marines don't know what they're doing? Their intent is perfectly clear for everyone, but just as Oreo can't sue every company making two dark cookies with a white stuff in between and Dr. Pepper can't sue Dr. Bob for making cherry soda in a dark red can, GW doesn't have a strong standing if their products aren't being copies (merely looking similar isn't enough) and there's no brand confusion.

Remember the Chapterhouse case and how it was decided
GW cannot enforce a copyright claim on the vague silhouette of "big guy in armor with big pauldrons and a big gun," nor on models that they've never produced at all. The largest specific point that I see people mention was the marine pauldrons, but the general marine silhouette is arguable because of this point (and prior material). The point goes farther on units like Guardsmen as well for obvious reasons, they're a lost cause in IP protection at this point but I digress.
>be a more apt comparison
It wasn't meant to be literal, it was just to give an example to express the "context to clarify intent" point.
>Brand confusion matters even more
It depends on intended use
If our hypothetical Catalan company wrote up a set of game rules for these "Primaris Eradicadors," they'd have a much stronger case against a brand confusion claim by GW. "'Primaris Eradicadors' are for 'Soldats Espacial' and are sold as such," etc. GW can't tell them to not use their language or to make a rival game, and GW also can't force *you* to only buy GW models to play 40k unless you play in GW shops or GW tournaments.

Copyright law is probably like lawyers in that everyone hates it/them until they need it.
As weird as it sounds I think GW was gonna go on a "copyright court crusade" if they won over Chapterhouse.
That might explain the petty thing GW did afterwards to middle finger CH.
>The point goes farther on units like Guardsmen as well for obvious reasons, they're a lost cause in IP protection at this point
But I think the Imperial guard is the "safest" when it comes for people to make proxies. They can just say they're a historical army in space.
>but I digress.
My CWC watching phase makes me think of Chris Chan when thinking of this. It would be funny if he got into Warhammer 40k with the Imperial Guard.

I don't know how many times people have tried to hammer this into your skull, but nobody here wants to make peace with you. Several anons (Myself included) have tried that in the past, but you've shown that no matter how people treat you you will continue to behave and act as you always do. People have left this general for good because they know that as long as you are around nothing good will come from it.

If you really want to make peace, just fuck off for good. You've burned your bridges, and burned them again when they were rebuilt. I don't get how you don't understand that people don't want you here even after being banned hundreds of time.

>was gonna go on a "copyright court crusade"
They sued the creators of Battletech over a mech in Battletech called "warhammer," including people who sold tertiary merch about that mech. GW *is* going on a copyright crusade, it's just very sporadic and inconsistent; yes they retracted the case in regards to Battletech products specifically, but the fact that it was even filed shows that they are more than wont to bring a case for any reason whatsoever, up to and including words that they know they would lose a copyright case on, such as "warhammer" because of the historical class of weaponry.
And fwiw, the Battletech Warhammer has existed since 1984, predating GW's usage of the brand name in regards to a sci-fi setting.
>I think the Imperial guard is the "safest"
That's kind of what I meant
GW can't really enforce their IP on guard infantry because they're too historical or too much like other pre-existing IPs. The tanks are arguable in GW's favor though.

Yeah I think that is a better description of it. Perhaps it would have been more intense if they won the Chapterhouse lawsuit?

I guess I'm part of the literacy problem then.
>The tanks are arguable in GW's favor though.
I think Forge World tanks like the Macharius are more easily copyrightable so it is weird to me that tank isn't in plastic yet but the Malcador is.
I can see GW eventually squatting the current roster of guard tanks that existed before the Rogal Dorn tank but even then most of the guard stuff is inspired by historical stuff and the vehicles too.
>if GW squats the tank for new roster
There will be reeing like when Yarrick was said to be dead and when the Steel Legion were MIA. So oddly enough I think GW "somewhat" listens to the guard fanboys. But maybe not this time.

>I can see GW eventually squatting the current roster of guard tanks that existed before the Rogal Dorn tank but even then most of the guard stuff is inspired by historical stuff and the vehicles too
None of the new ones are really enforceable either.
The Dorn is too similar to the M6 Heavy Tank in its silhouette
The Hippogriff is just "Saladin armored car, but round"
The Centaur is just an M3 Half-Track

Ironically, the older guard tanks are more copyrightable because of how bespoke they are vs. real world vehicles.
>There will be reeing
If GW squats the Russ, I just stop playing 40k. It's too important to the army as-is and I've bought too many of them over the years.
The Russ and all the Chimera hull vehicles do need a refresh, but I don't trust current GW to do it because they gave us these new vehicles that clearly take no cues from the older design language. And other armies need refreshes far more than we do, like Eldar still using models from the 90s (so are we in the Basilisk, but it's not as important to us as the Fire Prism and Falcon are for them).

Bought the new intercessor kit, I compared it to the previous one.
>removed all but 3 unique pauldrons
>no options to customize bolt rifles anymore
>less arm poses
>MULTIPLE TACTICAL ROCKS
>pistol holsters and knifes are molded onto torsos
>pouches and grenades are no longer included
Only positive parts are the aesthetics of having the old helmets, interchangeable leg greaves, chest/aquila variations, back banner, and 10 unique poses instead of the previous 5. This new kit is overall cut down on bits, while costing more money, and I hate it.

>New Chaos God name
Mabon. Because even to the celts in Britian Mabon/Modron/Maponos was an ancient lost celtic god that only the most ancient of beings from the dawn of time had even heard of. GW is a british company and a long lost fifth god kinda fits with the idea of a long lost celtic god (or gods Mabon might be 3 gods in one).
>what feeds them power?
Well if we're going with the long lost god idea, maybe it can be powered by memories and nostalgia. No one can remember Mabon so he is powered by powerful memories and people wishing things were as they were when they young. Im sure loads of people in the imperium want things to be as good as it was when they were kids. Hell the imperium is all about getting back to the DAOT and longing for the glory days of when the Emperor lived so he has a big emotional powerbase to draw from.
>Bonus what would his daemons look like
If Mabon is all about memory and nostalgia his troop deamons could be shadowy silhouettes that, to each person watching them could be the forms of people they knew in the past that are dead, playing on the idea of forgetting the geatures and details of peoples apperance after many years after they're gone.
>>
>>98777423
Well fuck it, whatever. I'm not sitting on my ass waiting for them to may or may not care to remember they sell other shit besides Space Marines like 5 years from now. >>
>>98777457
They're extremely fun to play but their low model count means you have to know what you're trading into or you can very easily run out of models before your opponent does. With their invulnerability saves being only a 50% with no re-rolls, you models aren't as tanky as they seem since currently 3W isn't alot

I'm writing some background fluff tonight, about a cave where the main sewer lines of the Hive and its underhives pours into. Its where the worst and most inhumane of mutants live.
Some loyalist space marines whose geneseed has corrupted/mutated so badly they're just near mindless monsters now, hiding in a cave with constant sewage coming on a world that was once their homeworld

While interesting fluff for a 40K RPG or necromunda or something, how the fuck do these guys get out in the galaxy to fight shit? Maybe if you ran these guys as blood angels and the mutated ones are your death company or space wolves and wolfen, but I don't see how these guys can do anything but rot in their sewers. Like, how are they even recruiting new members if they're too mindless to even have apothecaries?

Hello anons, reading up on Sister lore and need assistance (pic related).

Wiki says that the command structure of a Order is very strict and doesnt diverge like a space marine chapter. Does this mean a Preceptory/Commandery/Mission will not have individual names or can I just make it up?
>>
>>98777976
>how the fuck do these guys get out in the galaxy to fight shit?
They don't. I just thought a hive should have some dirty secret it wants hidden from the wider imperium and thought of that. Background fluff to make a planet more interesting to me, they're not leaving the planet unless they're captured and transported.
>Like, how are they even recruiting new members if they're too mindless to even have apothecaries?
Funnily enough that was the first thing I thought of, for them.
Bascially they're the hives boogeymen (no one really knows they're space marines) what they do know is that when the dust storms are really bad and the ancient power lines of the hive cut out, when the lights are off, in that blackout monsters emerge from the underhive. They climb on the outside of the hive to the highest towers, break in and kill anyone they find, except little boys who they steal from their beds/ under the covers/ wardrobe. Essentialy a monsterous cargo cult for space marines
How they turn these boys into actual space marines I dunno, plot armour/magic.
>>
>>98778006
Yeah I dunno. Like I said, a neat idea but I wouldn't really base an army around it unless it's purely for narrative necromunda type stuff.

>>
>>98778046
Akshually no you only get to run them as 3, or whatever it says in the Codex under unit composition.
>>
>>98778018

To run the new unit size for custodes you need at least 6 of the old models.
They are shorter so only count as a half a model since they are manlets.

Just some chaos space marines, called the Tain. The'yre more pirates than anything else. I was playing far too much starsector and thought it would be cool to have your fleet explore a mysterious sometimes hostile galaxy while doing odd jobs for different factions. So my CSM take on that is contracts to explore distant worlds, abandonded labs, do slave runs, find and deliver artifacts, kill people, assassinate chapter masters, act as a fore hire diplomats for other warbands who don't trust each other. Any reason to keep them on the move, be rather small and have a reason to go anywhere and see all the mysterious and cool things that are out there.

True, he's a false prophet using humanity to fuel his own ascension to godhood.
Humans are but fuel to him, for humanity to succeed and truly overcome the material we must worship the true gods
>>

>I was playing far too much starsector and thought it would be cool to have your fleet explore a mysterious sometimes hostile galaxy while doing odd jobs for different factions
Nah I get that and love that shit. One of my favorite parts of the first Mass Effect was reading up on the background of random planets and those unsolved mysteries you could stumble across during the free-exploration stuff.

I wanted /myorks/ to be more blood axe/freebooter aligned for the same exact reason, having an excuse to fight for or against anyone is both nice for fitting pick-up matches in my autistic headcanon as well as ork mercenaries being a favorite underutilized part of modern 40K.
>I like this alot cool idea
lel, thanks. It also gives me an excuse to have my Warboss never die even when he's cleared off the board. The odd git just loves faking his own death for a dramatic reveal later because he thinks that shit is peak plot. Also because the midboss who just keeps coming back long after the plot has moved past him is another one of my favorite cliches.

The problem with Craftworlds is that they still live in a post scarcity society where every material need is provided for. Without the path system and rigid society, they would have nothing but time, and idle hands are the devil's playthings. Secondly, most Craftworlds rely on their farseers to predict future threats to be eliminated. This means sometimes they kill innocent beings that one day *might* be a threat, as predicting the future is fickle. That's something that can be hard to rationalize. They need both things under control. Meanwhile Exodites are living day to day hunter-gatherer like. They don't have much time to be thinking about an existential dread spiral. They also usually aren't going around killing innocents for something that they might or might not do, mostly. They might kill you for being on their planet, boom, justification, morals satisfied.
>>

godhood is a trap that pigeonholes you into just a couple emotions that represent you the best. for the emperor this would be malice (sending people to their deaths). him becoming a god would mean he could never win since that would no long fit his MO

you get way more options and bits by just buying a standard deff dread for $67 which allows you to choose what you like, but also kitbash for future ork projects.
not only that, but with the money you could spend on the MTO deff dread you, can buy three standards characters, or ghaz and a standard character, goff rokkers and a standard character, ect.

>ascending to godhood
He specifically isn't doing that either.
He literally had the chance to ascend into godhood in the Horus Heresy and he actively rejected it.
Emperor isn't a god, never was and never will be one.

You make a great point. I've already got a deff dread and the modern sculpt is honestly close enough to the old one that I'm not missing out by not having one, save for the option to sockdredd someone. Ghaz + Rockers is a little more expensive but I'm getting properly discontinued models with those ones.

Thats so funny, so peak ork I'm amazed it hasn't been done before. I iamging a super serious helmet-less space marine chainswording him in the gut and them the warboss doing a hammy overacted shakespeare like speech about how wounded he is and how dead he is (well clutching his heart and moving around and talking just fine) before falling into a conveniently placed bottomless hole like you see in videogames to just reappear later

The whole >prophecy thing is also inherently difficult to write for, because when they're correct nothing happens so for the conflict-oriented setting of 40K you can only have their plans go awry in order to force the Craftworlds into battle or have everything blow up further.

Like yeah, you can have a brief codex entry about how by assassinating a key genius member of the Administratum of some Hive World stopped said world from experiencing a golden age of bureaucracy that would see a hundredfold increase of efficiency, causing them to expand to nearby planets for materials-harvesting and thus putting them in conflict with nearby Exodites. But since they killed that one scribe before he had a chance to do all that none of this happens and thus the Maiden World is safe. But again, this is 40K so for it to be anything more than the tiniest lore entry it needs UNFORSEEN CONSEQUENCES such as doing so keeps the Hive World vulnerable enough to attract chaos/ork/deldar/etc raiders and now the Maiden World is in even greater danger.
>>
>>98778356
>The whole >prophecy thing is also inherently difficult to write for
Because setting itself is poorly written (not for the lack of sheer volume of writting, but by it's structure).

For sure, it absolutely doesn't not muster up to high concept writing (nor should it). It's part of why the whole CHAOS IS TIMELESS thing is fucking stupid and largely ignored: GW's writers are in no way smart enough to actually conceptualize what it means to exist outside of time, much less weave such a concept into an ongoing plot in a convincing and intriguing manner.
