>>98776997>>98776990yes, you can commander damage kill with skittles in weird cases. infect/wither deals damage, but it's in the form of counters and counts as combat damage.
>>98776997>Damage is replaced by that number of poison counters.Damage is still done anon. It's not prevented in any way. If you do 9 infect damage with your commander, then your commander is dark steel mutationed, and then your pump it up to a 12/13 and still hit that same player, they will die to commander damage because that commander still did 21 commander damage even with 9 of it being put in as poison counters.

I got a chance to play with the Jace Reality Fracture precon this weekend, and I like it a lot. I unironically love how top-heavy it is. You ramp up with mana-rocks, and then start playing big-boys. I also love the gameplan of making some shitty tokens, and then trading them up into big-boys. Also the fact the big-boys in question are all member-beries from Magic's past. It is a fun deck, and it did a lot better 'out of the box' (unmodified) then I thought it would. My favourite play from when I played this weekend was when I did a "board wipe, but also make tokens for me" effect from White Sun's Twilight, and then the turn after I played Synthetic Destiny to upgrade my tokens into a squad of big-boys.

>>98778435You can hold priority with every single activation so your opponents don't get a chance to respond until you do it 10,000 times. After that point there's 10,000 activations on the stack that still haven't resolved. At that point there's only a few cards that can even try to answer it, and none of them are particularly good (and you can respond to all of them by just activating Lethal Vapors another 10,000 times).

When passing priority wit stuff on the stack, does priority always progress onwards in turn order, or does it go back to the active player once someone does something? As an example: Player A (active player) passes, player B passes, player C does something then passes, and players B and D both want to respond to player C. Does priority pass onwards to player D for their action, then A, then B for their action (who gains extra info from player D doing something), or back to player A and then B for their action before player D gets an opportunity?
>>98778469The latter is correct in both instances. Whenever something is added to the topmost of the stack, player responses always go in APNAP order

>>98777871Doesn't work according to the rules. I almost always hate the "spirit of the format" shit people vomit out to excuse browbeating pods to cater to the whims of retards that refuse to learn how to play, but color identity is LITERALLY one of the major pillars that defines this fucking format. In every other format of the game, cards with hybrid mana are explicitly easier to play on account of requiring one of two kinds of mana per pip. Only in commander do these cards become more restrictive based on arbitrarily changing their "OR" behavior to an "AND" behavior. The change would be most helpful for mono-color decks who may be given access to some secondary or tertiary color pie effects by the change, but more importantly would not be locked out of their primary effects by cards that feature other colored pips. A good example is Memory Sluice, a card that could very well have been printed U, but was printed U/B explicitly to be made easier to play. My Mono-U Mill deck cannot run it. There are 10 hybrid mill cards all unavailable to my deck that could otherwise run them without changing the land-base or producing any different mana but for the problem that there cannot be any food touching on people's plates. We return to Manamorphose "problem"; if these hybrid cards would so horrifyingly damage the sanctity of the format, why aren't they being played in the decks that CAN run them? 3.21% inclusion; and I suspect most often in cantrip goodstuff where 98% of its purpose is to bump storm count and trigger and draw a card "for free", and with 1% is to manafix for 5c and the other 1% to be copied to multiply mana as bullshit.Outrage over 'sanctity' of color identity is performative concern trolling and ought to be ignored out of hand.

>>98779269Color restriction is the only thing keeping commander interesting. Magic's lack of a heavily constrained color pie is one of the worst parts of the game and it ensured there would be truly unique identity or flavor in the game right from the start. Hence why they now have to rely on UB to generate interest in the game, because Magic itself is flavorless slop.
>>98779269The only argument that makes sense is that the brain dead designers find it too hard to actually do their jobs without abusing hybrid mana
>>98779300Yarok is great, but if you just add the most common or efficient staples then it's a tad dull.
>All it boils down to is "we must suck sheldon's dead cock at all costs!"Every time.
>>98779395Give it up, Rosewater. I have the high ground!
>>98779356>in every other format, color identity doesn't existIn almost every other format, it's not necessary because the decks are naturally significantly more consistent and anyone trying to play a slower, 5-color deck would be naturally punished, but even then they still appear from time to time.In EDH though, the speed was much slower thanks to how decks were constructed, and without color identity the majority of 3-color decks would just opt for more all-color lands and mana rocks and function as 5-color decks in order to take advantage of being able to run powerful Always-Good cards like Rhystic Study or Cyclonic Rift. Originally, EDH was actually built around having to choose one of the 3-color Elder Dragons, and without color identity most of the decklists would have begun to blur together to take advantage of the best cards in the format while many were already running the requisite all-color rocks and lands to play them. Color Identity in EDH was never about Hybrid cards, and weren't a factor involved in why Color Identity came about.
>>98779400lol I remember our last game before Prophet of Kruphix was banned, my friend cast it then I killed it, then his brother reanimated it, then I cloned it then the original caster stole both copies then we board wiped and his brother reanimated it again and won due to pure value by the time his next combat step rolled aroundWe all got a good chuckle out of the update >went to find the exact verbiage they used to justify the ban>wotc nuked the archivesFuck what is wrong with them?
>>98779406wew what a bunch of headcanonanyways you can wait until 2046 when they change the rule to play your shitty two color common in your mono u deck
>>98779356Phyrexian Mana would not need to be changed as Phyrexian Mana is still colored and not hybrid mana. Noxious Revival would only be playable in "includes Green", Gitaxian Probe would only be playable in "includes Blue". The only edgecase this produces is people running something like Beseech The Queen as a 6 mana tutor. Oh god the humanity, it would be then the most mana expensive 'any card' tutor in the game outside of jumping through a bunch of hoops to produce the black mana necessary to drag it kicking and screaming back to rate. Like, "Boohoo the colorless commander can run Karn, Gilded Guardian at 10 mana", what the fuck are we doing man?>>98779357When color constraints prevent me from playing cards with effects within my color they're not preserving deck and format identity, they're just putting idiotic hoops in the way of deckbuilding. "Aw, I can't run this B/U card in my U deck; better throw in some undercosted colorless staple slop instead. That's what's best for the format, more homogeneity."
>>98779418>When color constraints prevent me from playing cards with effects within my color they're not preserving deck and format identity, they're just putting idiotic hoops in the way of deckbuildingThe color pie is retarded and outdated fedora nerd ivory tower game design. Essential game mechanics should never have been locked behind a color just because there was no rule against "splashing blue if you want good draw or counters" or "green if you want ramp". The designers need to stop being retarded and kill the sacred cow. Every color should be able to draw, or counter spell, or remove any card type - just HOW they do so and how efficiently they can is what should define a color. Blue should be able to outright pay mana for cards, but everyone else should be able to draw just as well if they pay/gain life, sacrifice creatures, have x toughness creature, etc.

>>98779544You jest but something like this happened to me the other day.Last week I built a budget green and white enchantment deck for a modern event at my LGS. I don't have any shock lands so I used gates for duals. When I got there I asked the people at the table if they were playing modern and asked if I could join them. A store employee asked me if I had signed up yet and made me pay $10 and download some stupid app. I don't mind supporting the store but the app was really annoying. When I got to my first opponent I asked them what their deck's powerlevel was and they looked at me bewildered. He said that it was a 10 very bluntly and I asked him if he had any other decks that he could play. He smirked and just said no. He was playing some sort of jund goodstuff deck and spend the first couple of turns playing discard spells and eventually killed me with some creature that gets +1/+1 for each card type in all graveyards. I had never met a pubstomper until today and it really put a damper on my mood. The next round I tried to start a rule 0 conversation with my opponent and asked him what he was playing. This guy said that he didn't have to tell me and the two people at the table next to us turned to listen in to our conversation. I told him that the game would be more fun for both of us if we were playing on the same power level and the people next to us immediately started laughing. One of them told me that this wasn't the command zone hosted by Josh Lee Kwai and Jimmy Wong and that this was real life. The other guy told me that this was "big-kid-magic" and I decided to leave after that.It really sucks and I had no idea that the people who play modern at my LGS were so toxic. I was really looking forward to playing this new deck but I guess I need to find somewhere to play casual modern as it seemed that everyone there plays exclusively cModern (a word I guess for tryhard modern)
>>98779595I dont know how that relates to groomers but yeah just generally annoying people that should all be banished to another dimension. this is one of the reasons why I have no interest in modern or standard. when hand rips are the most viable deck archetype, the format is cooked. people dont want to announce it to randoms because no one wants to play against that, or they're going to counter everything. almost as cancerous as C[ancerous]EDHI have not played any 60 card in a long time except some pauper on MODO where I played my old green black scars of mirrodin/New Phyrexia era infect deck. only 1v1 I've played really in person at all is Hobbit & Reality Fracture pre-release (so sealed 40 card)if I was going to intentionally do 60 card I'd only play legacy and even then I'd be more wanting to lean into just straight up kitchen table style rather than "true legacy">>98779593this is one of the best things about the new mono colored EDH decks. they're actually great platforms to modify. I had been wanting to do either a mono white soldiers or angels and then this dropped and I changed out like 15 cards and now its a great lower power deck to have on hand for random n00bs or just lower power play.

>>98780183UB is fine because the IPs fit. Lord of the rings inspired Magic. Final Fantasy was inspired by all sorts of High Fantasy from King Arthur to Japanese mythology to Nordic shit and so on, and it was like a digital off shoot of DnD. All this stuff is like spiritual cousins in the high fantasy realmplayers since the 90s have wanted Wolverine and Hulk and Captain America cards and shit. Some of the IPs dont fit as well, and without good mechanics they suffer and just become jarring (like TMNT)I know I personally really hoped for a final fantasy crossover back in 2010 when I started. people always said "it will NEVER happen". look who's got goo on their face nowtl;dr since the 90s players have clamored for Final Fantasy and comic book other cool crossovers. the only people mad about it are retards

>>98780380Jesus the Neo modern frame is so abhorrent. as much as possible I've tried to make sure all my cards in any given deck are either original modern or retro frame. so much wasted space. hybrid mana cards are particularly abhorrent for missing all this good vibe shit.

>>98780404right and I definitely agree with that. there should be phone booths in the middle of a fucking swamp. I'm just not a Dr Who fan anyway. TMNT had egregious offenses from art to just everythingtoo much super hero stuff is just sloppa as well. it would make more sense if like the X Men were transported into the Magic plane or somethingthen other high fantasy LOTR, FF but more towards the older games fits in. I never watched Avatar the Last Airbender (its more my little brothers time period) but even that stuff seems kind of fitting, just with an Asian flair (which some FF stuff also shares)for the blackening I dont know why people haven't just made proxies with a book or movie accurate Aragorn. seems like a no brainer

>>98780401We all like to imagine crossovers happening cuz it tickles the heart. In practice it usually just means I wish I went one way or the other. It's funny, but not "fun". Mechanically, the game is still the same, but I'm looking at my pod's round of commander and I see Thanos, Hatsune Miku, Gary from SpongeBob, and Niv-Mizzet. My mind is preoccupied with a pervasive, gnawing question: What the fuck am I playing?
>>98780380Pretty messed up they erased Mr. Walker's signature.
>>98780471The reason why I can't even give LOTR a pass is entirely due to implementationUB was an effort to firesell mtg's good willIf LOTR was a summer draft set like conspiracy, wasn't standard legal and was a one off thing I'd be more inclined to let it slide but that's not the world we live in.Though I think even in that world LOTR would be divisive and for good reason.
I don't see the problem chudalso did this spoil LOTR? I'm in the middle of Fellowship, they just met Strider
Oh boy it's the hybrid mana argument again.Color identity is only meaningful if there aren't decks that both functionally bypass it and have commanders strong enough to compete at a premier level.Unfortunately, as history has shown, 5c access so completely mogs everything else that for nearly 20 years it was better to functionally have no commander if it meant 5c access, and now the best deck(s) in the game are 4c piles featuring noncommittal partners as small self-sustaining value engines. This, mechanically, demonstrates that not only should hybrid mana be changed on a philosophical level in order to assist decks with weaker color identities and allow them access to effects that they deserve, but the most radical interpretation of this should be that color identity should be abolished entirely in order to reemphasize that the format is supposed to be about building around your commander rather than just using them as a support piece for Rhystic Study. The only arguments I have ever seen against hybrid mana are from people that overtly refuse to acknowledge this reality and instead insist on pretending that color identity crippling decks with weak color identities is doing anything but encouraging legendaries in this field to become even more comically overloaded in order to compensate.

>>98781104>add Worldslayer to my Tajic, Blade of the Legion voltron deck 10 years ago>still have never drawn itYeah I go through the same
>>98781299Easy fixLook at your collection and a strategy will pop out to you, make it work with what you got and don't worry about the general so much
>>98781311>because my deck has a dozen equipment tutors in it
>>98781348It's b2 and only plays against other casual decks. We don't run tutors in these
We all hate pure netdecking, but what about netdecking but modified?
>>98781355>world slayer>b2>>98781356You are only cheating yourself, so you do you. That being said I had to look at half a dozen edh lists and a few canlander lists to make my eggs deck do what I wanted That was a case where trial and error was not really giving me the results I wanted.I also regularly check decks from other formats to get inspired.Ymmv
>it's taboo to>let's see here>play the game using mechanics printed on the legal cards>https://youtu.be/N0oPx_rurmQlolwut? This is exactly like fighting game casuals saying fireballs are cheap
>>98781356Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
>>98781383>world slayer>b2As a joke/alt wincon. We've all agreed that if it ever pops off there's no reason to continue
>>98781402Curious. List?
>>98781389Yeah as it turns out Commander is really shit when everyone's only playing to win. It's the same problem DBD has where the devs just let the game go to shit for years and the playerbase developed an encyclopedia of rules that you need to follow because the game is unplayably unfun otherwise. The problem emerges when nobody actually agrees on the specifics of said encyclopedia because everyone has a different line in the sand.
>>98781383Tbf, if worldslayer connects, it's basically game over and it's telegraphed as fuck
Can someone explain how Gitrog Monster and Dakmor Salvage results in an infinite?
>>98781389>5 years ago>hating on basically everything that isn't lands>why does simic always beat me?!
>>98781411Discard to hand size, discarding Dakmor SalvageGitrog triggers, making you draw a card and creating another cleanup step.Choose to replace your draw with dredging for Dakmor SalvageNext cleanup step, discard to hand size again, discarding Dakmor SalvageRepeat
>>98781411>When land goes to graveyard from anywhere, draw with Gitrog>Dredge 2 instead of drawing the cardResults in infinite dredge triggers if you can discard it
>>98781406Currently in the process of moving, so everything's packed up unfortunately. I don't even know which box its in. It's just the usual Tajic + normal equipment card draw (Sram, etc) + stuff that makes creature tokens to always have Battalion + all the cheap/shitty <$1 equipment. I think it cost me like 30bux in total
>>98781421>>98781422But to what end? How does that make you win?
>>98781407i'd rather have a boring meta that works than an unplayable mess where everyone seems to be offended over everything
>>98781428You have your deck filled with cards that do thing in the GY.
I play a snow-covered island and end my turn
>>98781430Then try playing cEDH. There's a reason it's niche and most games end in a draw.
I've never had these conversations about brackets, power level or rule 0, is this some weird online shit that doesn't happen IRL?
https://moxfield.com/decks/Ftu0TXqkEkOmTVRsPDD5FwI wouldn't say this is exactly a serious deck, especially when I'm running a silver-bordered card, but I feel like I probably need more protection for my Planeswalkers like Onakke Oathkeeper. What should I cut/keep? Realistically, the answer is probably some of my Planeswalkers but that kind of defeats the purpose.
>>98781443>I don't actually play with randoms
>>98781389More onionslads consensus building, nothing to see hereThere hasn't been a youtuber worth watching since RoyalAl stopped uploading videosOr at least since moxnix didAnd i might be able to squint and say at the very latest when VonMacabre trooned out
>>98781389Going to watch this video for ideas about my next deck
>>98781440>Then try playing cEDHi do>There's a reason it's nicheit's not that niche when everyone who proxies has one by default>most games end in a drawplaying cedh without retarded rules like giving 1pt for draws is much betteralso every noob's reason for dipping their toes in cedh boils down to 'i don't want to argue anymore one what's acceptable and offend people's feelings'
>>98781438Based. Someday we'll get a snow commander that I like and I can finally build a snow deck. I was hoping so hard that the Mystery Booster Commander set would have one but fuckin nope
What's the matter chud, you don't want 4 hours of how magic is fascist?
>>98781443>I don't ever go to the LGSTry playing literally anywhere other than your/your friend's place. Everyone discusses it beforehand unless you're one of the regulars at the sweaty table
>>98781428Usually combos with picrel and you can recur it by flashbacking Dread Return
>>98781456Quips and Guac has some decent videos, but it's very hit or miss. Some of his deck ideas are neat af
>>98781454>>98781467I play at the LGS and still haven't had this conversationUsually people just explain what their deck is, and if it's expected to be powerful. None of this numbers talk
>>98781443>i live in a bubble and i must speak
>>98781443I'm always shocked at how slowly the bracket info is disseminatedNiggas will be like>I found this cool combo on tictok>aw you don't know thefluffygolemancer>he's gotta be the best commander content creator>what's a bracketIf nothing else you can gauge what kind of maladapted person you are playing Magic against... cause you gotta have a screw loose to be shuffling up in 2026
I'm stealing Quipsandguacs one mana green deck with some adjustments, watch out
>>98781475hi, let's play
>>98781443>>98781475>I've never had these conversations about power level>people just explain what their deck is, and if it's expected to be powerfulI see.
I scoop
>>98781461Yes and there's also a reason most of those noobs don't stick around.
>>98781488NO YOU CAN"T DO THAT SCOOPING IS SORCERY SPEED
>>98781474Can't verify because I refuse to watch anything new but my favorite old youtubers were also basically retarded (top and go, cmdr decks, techdeck decktechs).Im sure they arent any worse unless they are doing the clickbait thing or taking regular LGS banter/musings and presenting them like they are ground breaking shit.
>>98781490those that don't stick around can't handle no-holds barred but also can't handle compromising with others people so they just live in their basement insteadwith that said brackets have made it easier, you'd be surprised how LGSs simply b3 as>no infinites/alt wincons before t7>no mld>3 GCs max
>>98781508What does your LGS think about Blood Moon?
>>98781505Wait seriously? I'm certain that the rules say you can concede at any time
>>98781505Unironically mtgo lets the triggers for Rith the Awakener go through if the player concedes after attacks are declared Since the rules don't specify (last I checked) I take this as gospel.
>love red>hate how often it devolves into dude fireI've complained about this before and I'll continue
>>98781516mld, gavin even specifically calls it out by name>"These cards regularly destroy, exile, and bounce other lands, keep lands tapped, or change what mana is produced by four or more lands per player without replacing them. Examples in this category are Armageddon, Ruination, Sunder, Winter Orb, and Blood Moon."
>>98781519ummm you just can't okay because it wouldn't be advantageous for me???
>>98781516I was thinking about bloodmoon todayPlayers are going to have to get used to non-basic hate if they are going to insist on making this many 5c commanders
>>98781531or, you know, wotc could just buff mono, like making background commanders specifically for them
>>98781523What's a good example of art that doesn't follow the dudefirelmao ideal?
>we have a little houserule here, you see, anything you do that can beat me isn't allowed
>>98781519They do, anyone who says otherwise is a salty little bitch
>>98781538Well that's enough /edhg/ for one night.
>>98781539Genuinely can't think of any because red is always dude fireI get that it should be fire to some degree, but red is the colour of passion, action and charged emotion, not lava and fireHow to get that across in magic art? Beats me, I'm not an artist.
>>98781548>he's afraid of meeting potential colorsee you tomorrow
>>98781531Blood Moon doesn't check nonbasics even in 1v1 where there's 1/3rd the available removal. Look at how many basics Delver runs in Legacy, or Izzet prowess in Modern.
>>98781548>night>12:47pm
>>98781539>>98781551you two need to be 18 to post here
>>98781551You know there's an entire archetype of red that is just buff your shit and run over everyone as fast as possible, right?
>>98781566Non-sequitur of the millenniumI'm talking colour aesthetics
>>98781565>2004I know it's not the point, but if you were born the year that set came out, you'd be over 18 now.
WTF is kindred?
>>98781591The politically correct term for "tribal", because "tribes" is cultural appropriation or racist or something. Same reason "Totem Armor" is now "Umbra Armor".
>turn 1>plateau>sol ring>arcane signet>serra ascendant >go
>>98781587the point is wotc tried before and the playerbase didn't like it
>>98781621absolute TRAVESTY
>>98781621People didn't like it only because they were weakThe only snow card I can really think of that's get played is Skred in Pauper
why does this have squad instead of replicate
>>98781680Ninja's don't replicate they squad up
>>98781682but enchantments replicate not squad
>>98779418Bro, you are a soulless retard. Just admit you are a secondary, and this entire conversation can get to the natural conclusion of telling you why you're wrong without the bloviated back and forth. Color identity is one of the central pillars of this format, and if you don't want that, you can literally just play 60c multiplayer. It's what most of us did back in the day anyways, and frankly, it was more fun that what EDH has become. But it's still no excuse to kill one of the main reasons to play this format all the same.
>>98781551Act of Aggression is an entire archtype in red.
>>98781680Slight mechanical difference, squad is an ETB trigger, while replicate is a cast trigger. A single counterspell will stop the enchantment from entering, and thus you get no copies, but the trigger for replicate still functions. Also, replicate puts the copies on the stack, so they all enter one by one, while squad puts all the copies into play at the same time.
>ban most of the banlist>bring back the old tuck rule>bring back the old legendary rule>ban UB by defaultThere. I fixed the format.
>>98781698>color identity is a central pillar that's why we allowed sen triplets to produce fire and broccoli
>>98781698If implementing the hybrid mana change gets troglodytes like you to fuck off into other formats it will have two substantial benefits to Commander rather than one.
>>98781730wait so zur actually works as ninja commander
>>98781792You can fetch the enchantment with Zur, but since you aren't casting it you can't pay the additional cost, so Squad doesn't trigger (and even if it did, it would make 0 copies).>702.157a Squad is a keyword that represents two linked abilities. The first is a static ability that functions while the creature spell with squad is on the stack. The second is a triggered ability that functions when the creature with squad enters the battlefield. “Squad [cost]” means “As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may pay [cost] any number of times” and “When this creature enters, if its squad cost was paid, create a token that’s a copy of it for each time its squad cost was paid.” Paying a spell’s squad cost follows the rules for paying additional costs in rules 601.2b and 601.2f–h.Squad has an intervening-if-clause on the ETB, which means if the Squad cost isn't paid at least once, the ETB never goes on the stack.
>>98781830so it's the worst of both worlds
You ever notice how every "LGS horror story" goes along the lines of>i was there in my "when a Black Womyn speaks I listen" shirt and my smoking hot but also independent wife>this total 600lb nerd wearing a fedora unrolled an anime playmat in front of us>i sat down to play with him>a few turns pass and i have the greatest combo known to mankind and was about to smoothly execute>then he starts raging and screaming at me>i coolly say "hey bro calm down, we're all friends here" and my smoking hot wife agreed>but he screamed, threw his deck and left the storeThese people are literally making up fictional stories about stereotypes that don't exist right
>"haha okay im just going to attack in a circle to be le fair and balanced" xd>first player in this circle eats just 3 damage>fourth player in this cycle eats 18i swear to fucking god i wish people would stop these autistic rituals and just play to win rather than twist a random players balls
>>98781917>>98781917>>98781917migrate to NEW
>>98781911every time someone does this, or rolls to see who to attack, or some other nonsense I tell them it doesn't reduce aggro. they are still making a decision and it will have consequences.
>>98781636Wow a shitty Serra Angel. What powerful white card.
I tend to spread damage around just so that I don't knock anyone out early, but only if I can safely make the attack.
