Are you being priced out of warhammer? Can you still pay for food and miniatures?
No.Yes.
im a secondary, i only engage with warhammer via books and video games. I can still afford both of those.
>>98778021Warhammer was retardedly expensive for what it is twenty years ago, and I've never seen a need to buy in.
I print and paintI haven't bought a legit miniature for 8-9 years now
Minis are cheap if you know where to buy them or are printing them.If you're a cuck buying GW at full price, that's on you.
>>98778021My budget for Warhammer is potentially unlimited by price increases, but I shan't be paying for fat ugly negresses.
>>98778021i can "afford" warhammer, there's just no good reason to buy it. i COULD get some tanks together, or i could go on some dates and get my dick sucked. suffice to say i havent bought a model since 2018
>>98778021Price isn't the reason I'm out of Warhammer, no.
>>98778021No. It needs to become at least x4 as expensive to keep all the poorfags and normies out
>>98778021Hey, sucking three cocks is half an army.A sacrifice the Emperor would be proud of.
>>98778021this dude is insufferable, literally every video is him shilling product. who the fuck watches this.
>>98778021No, I got uhhh, I dunno, shit-gamed out.of warhammer.
>>98778149Kinda this. The special miniatures were metal and rather expensive. I would say it is more expensive today.
>>98778324who doesn't? people need to eat lil bro they don't have unlimited checks like you get from your father.even valrak is shilling his own minis game
>>98778021in this economy warhammer dropping slightly in price wouldn't make it more affordable for most people. But warhammer for the last 20 years at least has been too expensive to get into. As >>98778149 said. The buy in is insane. If they wanna overcharge for premium shit sure, but they need some entry level shit too or else why would anyone bother?
>>98778021Everyone was priced out of warhammer 25 years ago.
>>98778575I was a small child 25 years ago so actually it's much more affordable now
>>98778021Yes to both of those questions. It's the main reason I stick with TTRPGs and not card games or wargaming.
>>98778021This guys channel is so fucking funny, takes 20 minutes to say something that could be summed up in 5.
>>98778690That's to make money.
>>98778702how else could he buy warhammer?
Time is the resource that keeps me from playing with minis
>>98779293if you post here your time isn't worth a damn
Compared to a lot of other hobbies miniatures even at full GW prices are cheap as fuck. The important distinction is do I feel their price is worth what I would get out of it, and that has been no for the last 20 years even before they started fucking up the rules, miniatures and backstory so hard.
>>98778563>they need some entry level shit tooIsn't that the starter boxes?Sucks if you don't like either of the factions provided, thoidk, is $255 a lot for this? It does come with the terrain shown, which is nice.
I got priced out in the last few years. I already have a few complete armies but every fucking year they put more of them into legends.
>>98780149>idk, is $255 a lot for this? It does come with the terrain shown, which is nice.Yes, it is, particurally since you can't play the game with it. It's an intro kit to buying more models, not the game.
>>98778021Compared to other hobbies Warhammer/tabletop games aren't that expensive
>>98778021I was priced out 20 years ago
>>98778021I was prices out of warhammer 8 years ago. I'm still salty. Also thank you for posting this guy I remembered his face but could not recall the channel name and it was bothering me for the last couple weeks
>>98780149$255 is a huge buy in price for someone who is curious and not sure if they'd even be all that into it.No, that starter box is something a rich uncle gifts you to get you into the hobby. The problem is you need a rich uncle to get it. There's no justifying buying it for yourself. As an example of what wouldn't be terrible, I was into the x-wings miniatures for a while. The buy in for that was $25 on sale from maybe thirty something. It was a starter set with only three miniatures, but the whole design of the game is such that you only need the three ships for two people to play. So even without getting into collecting them you still have a self-contained 2-3 player tabletop game in that box. And then it's not too much more for a few more ships to make it interesting.Warhammer is designed for larger armies and land and more than x-wings, by far. But the reality we're looking at is they needed to downscale the quality of the average minis to get the price super low. Now would be a peak time to get a lot of new blood interested. The only thing keeping people out is the price.
>>98778291You are a millenial nigger.
>>98780149by itself looks nice, but you can't play a regular game with them.
>>98780149>idk, is $255 a lot for this?I know it's a tired comparison at this point but the comparable starter box for Battletech has the rule booklet/map sheets/dice/etc. as well as the rough equivalent of two(2) 1500-point armies for $65.
>>98778021Never bothered to care for it. I liked the pre-woke lore and all but admit between them becoming massive fags and basically shitting their own IP lore changing everything around to please the tourists and gay activists as well fucking over anyone to make a extra dollar. I stop caring about it fully. At this point I hope they go all in and make female space marines or whatever. They're on the edge and I hope they just jump the shark and go over. Become like Dr. Who and kill their IP for fags who only bought a shirt or two and think that makes them hard core fans.
>>98778021Did that back in 7th editionYes and Battletech
>>98780317Well, drugs cost more.
>>98778021No. GW is getting priced out of Warhammer. Printer goes "Buuuuur Djeeeeeeh"!
>>98779877Some of us have 15min breaks.
>>98778021I do not buy new
>>98780149>Two minimal sized units of infantry, two characters, and a light scout vee>Three minimal sized units of infantry, two characters, and a bike>some actually decent terrain>a mat>intro rules plus a few diceYeah, even with the terrain and converting from burgerpounds to real money, it's a lot for what it is. Far, far, too much imo. You could half the price and gw would still be making a massive profit. I would knock it down to $100/£75, removing some terrain if really needed. That at least allows two teens to buy a box each and swap the models so they have enough for a decentish army to start out with, otherwise the contents on offer is far too low to be a good starting point.
>>98778021>Are you being priced out of warhammer?Yes>Can you still pay for food and miniatures?I just stopped eating and subsist on water and sunlight like anyone else can.
>>98779877Can't paint or play with minis at workcan shitpost
>>98778021I'm not sure who exactly is being priced out of Warhammer recently, it was expensive back when I started (4th edition).I would say it's actually gotten a bit better with Combat Patrol boxes (especially the Custodes one), I don't recall the old Battleforce boxes being quite as good for starting out.Adjusting for inflation, $120 in 2008 is the same as $190 today, so it may have gotten cheaper to start playing (I don't remember how much the old Battleforces were at the time, but 120 sounds right).
>>98780313>>98781106>>98782646>>98782688>>98784757It comes with 2 full combat patrols, rules, terrain and lots of shit. You can play a regular game of combat patrol, thats the idea, its a beginner box. You're all just complaining for the sake of complaining, this is one of the best value boxes GW released in a long time> muh battletech is cheap!Yeah and the minis look like shit. Its not even close to the production value of anything warhammer. (The game is good tho)
>>98778021Paypigs will starve before giving up on consooming.
>>98778527Especially when they're plastic. Metals you can always sell secondhand for a decent price, assembled plastic models are lot less valuable.
Warhammer is fucking overpriced, and do not mistake this post as some GW apology or marketing, but it's Salvation Army tier compared to anyother hobby beyond knitting. Everytime I hear coworkers talking about how much money they burnt on some magnesium pedals for a bike or some bullshit golf club, I think to myself this is peanuts.Just stop hoarding plastic until you finish your current project, simple as. No, you don't need another 40 tacticals in Mark Six Seven for Horus Heresy.
>>98785120Battletech is for playing, unlike warhammer.
>>98778021In this video we're going to be taking a look at paint, why paint might or might not be suitable for your hobby projects and how you can use it. Now a lot of people ask me; "Uncle Atom how do you feel about paint", and I think that's really a very good question for a number of reasons which we're going to go over now. There are a lot of important factors to consider about paint, I was first introduced to paint when I started hobbying back in the day. Now back then there were a lot less people into hobbying, and it was harder to find information. We didn't have sites like youtube or forums or blogs so i had to go down to the old hobby store to ask people for advice. I made a video about how the hobby has changed over the years which you might be interested in: pachow. But to get back to the subject I was on my way to the hobby store and I was wearing an onion on my belt as was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war, the only thing you could get was those big yellow ones. I made a video about onions which you can see here: pachow. So anyway I got into the store and I started looking through all the paints they had and there were an amazing array of colors, reds, blues, violets, yellows, greens you name it. I bought the paints I thought I wanted and went on home and started painting but I very quickly ran into an issue, you see I had intended to paint my space marines red because I wanted them to be blood angels but I had mistakenly painted them blue which was bad because blood angels aren't supposed to be blue. I suppose I could have ran them as a blue successor chapter but that wasn't what I wanted to do, I wanted them to be red. Now the reason for this was that I, in my youthful enthusiasm had been in a rush and I had only bought blue paints; and that's the first issue you have to consider when you're buying paints, you absolutely need to buy paints that match the color you want to paint your models.Another factor is...
>>98778021No and I don't want to listen to OP drone on and on for 30minutes without ever saying anything of value until giving a resounding "it depends" in the last 30seconds just so you can say it wasn't clickbait. Gods I hate that faggot's videos
>>98785406Wheres the joke fuckleyGeedubs can in fact suck cock for ots prices, buts it the fucking rules churn that males getting into tje game suck ass now.Lemme guess, can you use those cpmabt patrols in the "main" game? Yeah. Are they worth a damn? Better hurry before those units become ass with some fuck ass update and not its just dead weight
>>98785120>Yeah and the minis look like shit.maybe instead of being a defensive fanboy you should have read the shit you replied to.Yeah. It looks like shit because it's cheap. That's the entire point. If they don't want the hobby to die a slow death and if they want new blood the only way forward is cheap low quality options.Like sure have premium shit, that's just the current standard at the current price. Let the whales eat that and then leer at all the peasants they're playing against who have inferior minis. But at least you'll have the people to leer at. But kids out there will see their favorite streamer talk about their warhammer hobby and be able to go to the store and pick up a starter box for under $50 that includes two small armies for two people to play together. Then they'll play it and get really into it and in their late 20s making adult money they'll start building armies with the real minis. That's the best future warhammer could probably hope for. That would be thriving. Think about it. Maybe the crappy minis are painted in the factory, one base color and two accents. Plenty of mistakes, awful work, very little detail. But it can be painted over, and there's tutorials online for how to get into that. They start getting better paints, they 3d print slightly better minis, and eventually they have the quality stuff and are pros at painting. And kids no less. But here I am, in my 30s, and I'd need to tighten my belt for a fucking starter kit. That's a dying hobby.
>>98778021I recently bought the starter set for TOW and i had to save money for 2 months
I buy every GW gaming product that they manufacture and it’s not problem. I’m on disability
>>98783834>printer memeAlright are we really at the point where printer truly goes 'brrrr?' Or is this a meme that people who procrastinate on getting a printer say?
>>98785120>It comes with 2 full combat patrols, rules, terrain and lots of shit.250$ is a lot of money for something that doesn't let you play the actual primary game that you, the buyer, presumably want to play.>this is one of the best value boxes GW released in a long timeThis is moreso damning to GWs overpriced bullshit than it is anything else. Some are almost reasonably priced, others are just absurd.
>>98786561>Or is this a meme that people who procrastinate on getting a printer say?Usually that but proonting is decently common and only gets moreso, even if only by degrees, given that it's a full hobby by itself.
>>987866093D printing is a hobby in the same way that baking a frozen, store bought pizza is a hobby lol
>>98786619Speaking as a printfag, it is a little more involved than that.If we're going for shitty food analogies, I'd compare it more to baking a packet cake. You are mostly just doing what the back of the box says, but it is *just* technical enough that you can run into real issues. Most of the time, it is more or less print and go, but you do need to be prepared for the occasional issue that leads to you spending 2 hours fixing your printer.
>>98786798You have soundly convinced me that 3D is not a hobby
>>987868393D printing is definitely not a hobby. it is either a tool that people use or a lifestyle and personality that they adopt completely but there is no middle ground where it is a hobby.
>>98786798Fair enough then. For me so far my 3D printing hobby is collecting STLs and learning Blender to cut up and bash models together and hope that all the vertices and polygons are lined up properly so there are no artifacts that it was an amateur "remix" job of multiple models. Even though it really is. Learning Blender is a bit of a curve for me.
>>98786605I get it feels like barely anybody plays it, but I just think of the fuckery of Kill Team being as expensive as it is when that was sort of the outlet for entry level, throw together shit not in bulk. Ok sure some unique model teams I kind of get a slight premium of that and sake of argument you really only worry about everything official WYSIWYG if you're playing for real, but 60-70 some odd bucks for a single team for a game mode that often encouraged trying different stuff and being way more low stakes, is a little stupid.
>>98778021>Are you being priced out of warhammer?Yes, but I also think we're starting to get priced out from almost ALL hobbies: PC gaming, movie and tv streaming and so on.But, until there's piracy, 3d printers and so on, we can still continue>Can you still pay for food and miniatures?Yes, I could, but I'll never give GW a cent for the rest of my life.

>>98785120>It comes with 2 full combat patrols, rules, terrain and lots of shit.Mate, that stuff costs pennies to produce and more to the point, combat patrol was once the fun skirmish40k game where you had 500 points of minus. This looks like two starter armies for 40k though I only play 4th/5th so I don't know what constitutes an army any more.>You can play a regular game of combat patrol, thats the idea, its a beginner box.£185 is way, WAY, above what's to be expected for a beginners box. £60? Yes. £70-80? Maybe, so long as there's plenty of content. One hundred and fucking eighty five pounds? I can have all the Battletech minis ill ever need, I can have a mk2 or 3 Warmachine army with options, I can have two full Infinity armies. I can have two massuve Oathmark armies plus a load of monsters and options. It's not a starting point price. On a tangent, I remember Skull Pass dropping. Two full 750 point armies, one Goblin and the other Dwarf, the full rulebook, an intro booklet for learning the game, terrain, all for £50. Now THAT was an intro box.>You're all just complaining for the sake of complaining, this is one of the best value boxes GW released in a long timeWhat value? Its nearly £200 for two minimally sized armies that by your own admission are not actually enough to play the full game with, plus arguably too much terrain, though I've heard nu40k needs a lot because of lethality or something. It is, by your own admission, a taster box that's priced higher than other systems full starter sets with actual full armies/fleets included. There is no value here unless you see masses of plastic terrain as a plus, though why you don't just make your own I don't know.
>>98778058im a tetriary i only watch weshammer on tiktok
I'm a landlord. I own most of you.I just play 6 edition WHFB and 3 edition 40k. Also historicals and SAGA.Regarding warhammer miniatures, I only buy second hand or recast. I just like middlehammer and some oldhammer miniatures, modern miniatures are made by millenials and they suck.Bye.
>>98786561Printer has been going Brrr since monochrome screen printers became a thing in like 2019 and delivered sane print times. Current printers are just massively more convenient and reliable.I don't print whole models for warhammer, I only do parts and I design them myself. What I do print whole models for is Battletech where official models often look like shit or don't exist so I just make my own version when I want something and the print a bunch.Having the ability to make something go from idea on your head to multiple physical models in a matter of hours is some shit that is beyond the wildest dreams of even myself 20 years ago. Even being on the fence about it is fucking crazy. There's a magic box that turns the content of your imagination into a physical object and its like $250 and you're not sure if you want one, what the fuck are you talking about? It's like being told that the magic was inside you all along and you are, in fact, a wizard and the, you just need to grab a magic wand from the Wandco webstore and being like "hmm maybe not". It's the most powerful hobby tool you're ever going to get.

>>98785120You're cherrypicking Battletech as an example. What about all the high quality historical miniatures where you can sometimes get like 60 of them for significantly less than GW might charge you for as few as 3 infantry. We can be very specific. 60 victrix Republican Romans are signifigantly cheaper than 3 Bladeguard Veterans. At best 10 intercessors are still substantially more expensive than 60 high quality romans.Even allowing for the marines being bulkier that's absurd. But lets go a little more like for like. Cadians or chaos cultists are a somewhat similar size to those Romans, somewhat bigger due to more heroic sensibilities but similar. A box of 10 of those is a few dollars cheaper than the box of 60 Romans.

I can go to any random town with a logs, and it's guaranteed I can find a guy to play against with my expensive miniatures. This is what people actually spend their money on, not the miniatures alone. And sure, 40k as a game, is pretty dogshit, but it's everywhere and historical games are not. And even if you find historical games in your area, chances are that it's bolt action or something similar popular and not whatever you built your Romans for.

Imagine how aussies feel.
>>98780149dark vengeance (6th ed) was £65 and had a similar amount of models minus terrain and cardboard mattthat box is £95 more
>>98780317This is true. Warhammer is expensive compared to vidya, running/gym, drawing, or playing music. (On par with playing music if you fall for the Buying Shit meme) Warhammer is incredibly cheap compared to cars, mountain biking, or skiing. The fact is that any leisure activity is almost definitionally a luxury and will be priced as such. Compared to some of these "lifestyle hobbies", Warhammer just isn't that bad. It's overpriced, but all hobbies are, and you get fucked worse paying for the likes of outdoors gear or whatever.Hobby costs can also be mitigated by going off brand and shopping for supplies at the hardware store instead of the hobby aisle. (Glue and tools) Buying other brands instead of the GW kit for a unit of skeletons. There's money to be saved in a pinch, I played Mordheim with Lego men when I was a kid. So I don't think it's that bad.
>>98780317Price generally isn't judged by the relative price of unrelated things. Its judged relative to what the product itself is. Warhammer has overwhelmingly absurd profit margins. Its overwhelmingly pure mark up.Skis and little plastic sprues aren't comparable just because they can both be broadly construed as somehow being "hobby supplies".A 30 dollar orange isn't cheap because a diamond ring is more expensive. The costs required to make the thing matter.

>>98811129left one is cool, right one is dumb
>>98811129>good IP vs boring IP
>>98778058As a fellow secondary, I hear you bro.
I'M SUCKING COCK IN UKRAINE WHILE DAMN WESTERNERS PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR PLASTIC CRAPI HOPE YOU ALL DIE
>>98789694Pentenary here: I once overheard a colleague mention how he'd seen someone watching a warhammer tiktok on the bus
>>98811219Y...yes.Well a fair few video games at least, the edgy memes tend to only be in fairly closed circles.
>>98811472>warhammer>good IP
scans are free or very cheap if you want the good stuff
>>98779877t. Never had a job
>>98812467stop being a faggot
>>98778021>Well...Maybe. Your milage may vary.It is incredible how long this guy can talk without really saying anything.
>>98795329Inflation alone that would be 100 quid today.>>98795819The gym near me costs 42 quid a month cheapest package, next closest one is 58 quid a month cheapest option.I'm definitely spending less than that on 40k.
>>98795878T. Talking from his arse Injection moulded plastic kits like this are not cheap to set up runs for. They're cheap when you sell astronomical numbers of units which GW doesn't compared to most comparable things. The research and development they've done into the moulds and plastic isn't cheap. If you'd touched anything in a related industry you'd know GW needs to be running ridiculous profit over production cost to recoup their setup and development costs.
>>98778021Being priced out implies that I could ever afford it. I couldn't afford it as a kid, and I can't afford it as an adult. The difference is that as an adult, I no longer want to play it, as James' Wokeslop has ruined both their major settings and only produced garbage for over a full decade. Age of Smegmar and nu41k can go suck my ass.
>>98778021
>>98814802shit if poor widdle GW can't help their prices then Renedra must either be a charity or some sort of money laundering op
3rd worlder here.Never able to pay it. As a kid an as an adult. I always played recasted models, and now I'm playing 3d printed.Never saw an original model.
>>98794269>And even if you find historical games in your area, chances are that it's bolt action or something similar popular and not whatever you built your Romans for.NTA but this tells me you've seen some 40k refugees play bolt action a handful of times and that's it. You have zero interest in historicals, therefore have no idea about the culture, and yet not only do you think you're in a position to inform anybody about that, you're also ponderously overexplaining "40k is popular" as if everyone else is excruciatingly simple. If the high cost you pay for GW figs is what allows you to continue to be an arsehole and still roll up to a store and get a game, then the low cost of doing a bit of research on the internet and sending a few emails is what allows me to avoid arseholes like you.
>>98778021I have like 10k points of warhammer and i have only ever bought second hand for at least 50% off.
>>98817766I'm in a similar boat.I used to joke that im the reason why GW discontinued fantasy. 20 years in the hobby, thousands of miniatures, dozens of books. All in all i think i spent maybe $900 (canadian!) in total, of which maybe 200 went to GW.
Why the fuck would anyone play warhammer when they can play better wargames instead?
>>98825259This question has always been asked. Many times. It is because communities of those games are harder to make and keep going in an LGS. Even when Warhammer miniatures can very easily be reused for them. Even when the wargames are dedicated for Warhammer mini reuse. It gets even harder when non-Warhammer minis are best for the wargame.
>>98825389Why? Is the average LGS gamer retarded or something?>here's a game with better rules that you can reuse your warhammer minis for, so the sunk cost factor doesn't even matter, now you can avoid the rules updates and edition churn you complain about>NOOO I NEED TO PLAY OFFICIAL 40K! I NEEEEEED TO PLAY IT WHILE ALSO COMPLAINING ABOUT IT! ONLY 40K!
>>98825403Yes, it's exactly as you describe. They are pigs. They will complain about 40k's (or AoS's) rules nonstop, but the moment you show them an alternative (even one where they can still use the same models) they will brush it off and continue to eat their slop. Disgusting.
>>98825403Yes. I mean look at the piggest of pigs virtually queuing at 8am to purchase £80 Black Library Limited Editions with a "free" drinks coaster and bookmark, never mind the FOMO boxes of actual miniatures
>>98825403Well in those alternative rulesets space marines are called "space warriors" and boltguns are called "heavy rifles" and most warhammer players can't really visualize things in their heads so this confuses and upsets them.
>>98825403>>98825443>>98825457>>98825482It is more than that. I think they just don't want to venture outside the Warhammer ecosystem to give alternatives a shot. I want to, but it is either Warhammer or nothing at this point where I am when it comes to miniatures.I guess all your reasons are correct in their own way. I think another reason is that they just don't want to move away just like how "DnDrones" don't move from DnD and think DnD can work for all settings or be good enough for anything. If I may use /g/ analogy here for /tg/. I think Warhammers are basically Microsoft Windows editions with all their problems but people stick with those for the sake of being used to it even when there are glaring issues and ignore alternatives. I think /awg/ is basically the large number of Linux distros where they have their ups and downs, but for the most part avoid a lot of problems Windows (Warhammer) has. Hopefully that explains things.
>>98778021I can afford to, but dont really want to anymore. I have one army at 2k points. Once im finished painting i might just play here and there or buy one thing a month. Id rather spend money on other things and the time. I barely have time for anything else.
Uncle Atom had a few very distinct brain break points that had lead him to where he was at. First was him trying to get more comfortable on YouTube and a video he had where somebody must’ve gotten him into Rust and he just got so repulsed by the sandbox survival game chaos that it made him swear off vidjas. He also got offended when people weren’t too keen on his painter friend Sam. But the recentish full scorched earth on GW was how he hated what Kill Team became and like it’s not valid but something about that just made him lose it.
>>98826152Dude.Proprietary dice are cancer.Suck a dead rat's cock.
>>98826088>I want to, butTHEN FUCKING DO IT. BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE ANON. YOU CAN DO IT. GET OFF YOUR ASS AND BE THE HERO
>>98789468That's a retarded analogy because 3d printing involves more tools than just the 3d printer itself.
>>98780149It’s not bad value for what you get I suppose but the problem is after that $225 you’d have to invest even more to even be able to try the game out. The TCG equivalent in a starter deck will give you a full deck which you can use to attend a locals for like $30 including sleeves.
>>98778021lol wargaming channels really have to think their viewers are the biggest loosers on earth, every video I watch the constant poorfag pandering, oh no those are expensive, whith these colors you get 2 more mililiters and save 50 cents per liter............
>>98778058i kneel, nogames chad
GW seems like World of Warcraft, after it's passed the peak of popularity, so developers focus their efforts, not on getting as much subscribers as possible, but to milk as much as they can from those who remained, which leads to the development of cult-like mentality.
>>98778021I only buy recasts. Speaking of which anyone know any good Chinese recasters apart from WTG? Too annoying to deal with Russian recasters right now and WTG doesn’t have what I’m looking for.
>>98789892He reminds me of a Redditor crossed with a character from The Adventures of Pete & Pete Midwestern "Do better FOLKS." P-chow!In this video we're going to talk about why 90s Nickelodeon was peak.
