Post arms and armor you like and discuss them. more realistic or more fantasy, your choice.

I have always been a fan of the late medieval Targe. a smaller sheild worn on the upper arm usually by a fully armored man. gives a nice sense of asymmetry to the silhouette and I bet it is nice additional protection on a place you will likely be hit the most without getting too much in the way.

most of the high grade armors have a shitton of little intricate patterns on them that can be only seen from up close. Especially after etching came into the picture (and some advancements in woodcuts and the printing press)

I guess the main attraction of that castle isn't the armor display because man, they did a very bad job on puttin those on a stand. I mean I've seen stuff that are way worse but it's always sad to see stuff just randomly thrown into the corner with the "good enough" mindset
>>
>>98784146

I'm also bad at taking pictures, so that might have also made them look worse. It's not as impressive as the army museum in Warsaw for sure.

It's not even about the lighting or focus or whatever. It's the posture of the armor, how it doesn't resemble at all how it would look like if someone was actually wearing it, or sometimes the attachemnts are off / sliding down / etc. it's just thrown there and that's it. Sadly that's the case in a lot of castles and whatnots, so it isn't surprising or unexpected. Just sad.

I really wonder why 16th century armored are not talked about as much when they are the literal peak of full body protection. People seem over focused on 15th century. maybe because it feels more quintesentially medieval and the english had more involvement with things like the late 100 years war. But the sort of armors worn in renassance era Italian Wars by french gendarmes or italians, or SPanish are amazing! You still have massive heavy cavalry charges mixed in with pikes and they were effective too if employed well.

Burgonets also are just underrated. really cool design and functional.

Eh. I stopped wearing a shield as my plate is more than enough protection and I don't want the added hassle.

I own 14th century plate, which I larp/work out/fuck around in. I've been in everything from duels to battles with 1k+ combatants, AMA if you've got armor questions.

What's the longest time you've spent wearing it in one go while actively doing stuff and did it get annoying/hot/stuffy to wear at some point
>>
>>98801354
10 or 12 hours, and no. I train pretty frequently and don't wear excessive padding, so as long as everything is out on correctly, it's only annoying if I try to sit in a chair or on the ground, and that is because my cuisses wrap around and make it impossible to sit right. Stools are a good send.

If shit is on wrong it'll be annoying, but I won't even notice if I'm fighting.

A lot of them didn't have armor and a lot of them used just breastplates, but yes, chainmail was used in the east pretty much until multi-shot firearms took off and in more remote places like Caucasus you could see chainmail in use up until 20th century.
