PROOOOOH Edition>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG by R. Talsorian Games, set in a (then) future inspired by film noir and the dark science fiction films and books of the late 20th century. It focuses on simulationist gameplay and lethal near-future combat.Cyberpunk RED is the latest edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG, set after the devastating Fourth Corporate War. It focuses on more balanced, streamlined gameplay and is currently supported by R. >>98785084I don't think we're at the level of going to the theme park on my game just yet, we're still at the "I'm suspicious of this gonk" stage that all parties go through.
>>98785084checked out the Nomad Presents Radio, a good chuckle, and a good base for my own media adventures. I was thinking television for my own experiments, but that's a separate occasion.
I've fallen out of love with Cyberpunk.
>>98786066My group started playing campaigns in other systems, we still like RED, but we just don't play it regularly.I've missed like a year's worth of DLC, people talk about ACPAs, FBCs, new martial arts and I'm out of the loop.
>>98786090The thing for me is the system. I'm tired of chasing crits or failing in most skill checks.
So, another thread of bitching, moaning and accusing everyone of being James?
What's the alternative?
LAND OF THE FREEHOME OF THE DEAD!
>>98786066luv cyberpunkdon't luv red
>>98786144That's it?Just replace 1d10 with 2d6 and increase DVs by 2, pretty shrimple.
>>98786144Can I ask what your play experience has been like? IME a skill base 14 means ~90% odds on most checks (DV 15 or lower) and 70% on harder ones (DV 17). DV 21 (or higher) comes up maybe once or twice a session and it's usually for checks less integral to finishing the job.The difference from most other systems I've played is that if you don't have any ranks in a skill, there's basically no point in trying, but my table has adequate skill coverage and the GM is usually cooperative in letting us take approaches that allow us to roll using the skills our characters have.
>>98787907If anon's issue is a low success rate, switching to a roll with less variance but the same average won't help much. If anything, the problem becomes worse because your odds drop off more quickly the further you get from the center of the distribution: Needing a roll of 8+ to succeed is 30% for 1d10 and 16.7% for 2d6-2. You could switch to 2d6 without adjusting the DVs, to give players a higher average (although 4-7 see higher increases than 1-3 and 8-10). Simply adjusting all the DVs down by 2 might be better, depending on taste.
I think the militech crusher should be a pistol in 2020
>>98787150Cities Without Number, older editions of Cyberpunk, Shadowrun I guess.
What if you adapted Posergangs for modern zoomerslop culture so you have entire outfits dressed as family guy and american dad characters or goku and vegeta. Even tung tung sahur if you must.
>>98793985That somehow sounds even more lame than posers already were, and if I ever see anyone who blew a small country's gdp worth of edds on a borging/bioscuplting themselves into a spooky chuck e cheese mascot or a deltarune character I'm immediately ramming my fucking car into them like they're glowing in the dark.
>>98793985You know, you don't have to bump the thread with the first retarded thought you come up with.
How much would change if you changed aimed shots to the head to multiple the damage dice by 2, instead of multiplying the remainder, after damage reduction by their SP.Shooting someone in the head with a medium pistol would deal 4d6, and 8d6 for a very heavy pistol.
Hey!Is there an easy way to find other nice info dumps like pic related or should i look through all of the cyberpunk 2013/20/red?Are there other cyberpunk games worth checking out?
Why do people keep going about "there are no happy endings" when people ask about Cyberpunk? I dont remember Night City being grimdark levels. Is this because of the anime?
>A heads up too, starting next month, DLCs will be obtainable via our store at TalsorianStore.com so that I may much more easily track how often these are downloaded and see what you all do truly enjoy and value, which will help shape future products and DLC!someone probably told james to knock it off with elflines, but i wonder if this will actually help RED in the longterm
>>98797127The game leans into that too since V gets shoehorned into getting fucked over no matter what. But generally I think its more derived from how most characters stories in the setting all tend to eventually reach a sudden, unglamorous and extremely violent end. You don't really ever hear of retired runners, since living that lifestyle will inherently either result in you just getting flatlined or living long enough for cyberpsychosis or the consequences of everyone else you screwed over getting to the top coming back to bite you in the ass.
>>98797127Allow me to gesture in the direction of all my dead 2020 and RED characters.
>>98797515Really the play is to fake your own death and move to the orbital colonies
>>98797186I'd just like to sort them by date.
>>98789929Then the solution is even shrimpler because you don't need to change numbers, just the die. Great success!
>>98794947>info dumps like pic relatedThat's not from Cyberpunk at all, it's from Underground.
Had a sudden brainwave that classic 1E to 3E Shadowrun can use the Silhouette system from Dream Pod 9 as its RPG mechanics and not have to change anything else. Now I’m reading through Shadowrun 1E to see if the brainwave had any substance.
did anyone try shadowrun anarchy 2.0 yet? is it shit?
>>98785084>OPicrelDamn, not only cyberpunk is retarded but also ugly af. Who in his right mind can like this crap?
>>98800580>I came into a thread about a subject I didn't like>the subject I don't like is in thereYou could just not posted and not waste that couple of megabytes of data it took to post that and not come here.
>>98785084>>98800580Wait a minute, is this supposed to be a cyber-elephant or an armored up main battle Pachyderm?
>>98787806AgreedGreat setting, great concepts, awful writing and pants on head retarded rulesHow do you make guns boring?! James Hutt and friends managed it
>>98801482It’s from an art series where peacekeeping/anti-poaching robots are built in the shape of regional animals.
>>98794121You say that, but we all know we would love nothing more than shooting a bunch of idiots dressed like Pickle Rick. All you have to do is make it something everyone hates and link it to cosplay instead of linking it to a gang.>>98797127It's less that there's not good happy endings, it's just that the good happy ending of a cyberpunk story feels like a bad ending too. The absolutely best ending you could accomplish from Cyberpunk is retirement by getting yourself picked up by a corporation, and I mean picked up as some middle executive. You can now afford the cars, the nice apartment, real food, you're living the dream! But you're also a slave to the corporation for as long as you live. You gotta remember that one of the main tenets of Cyberpunk as a genre, not just the tabletop or the videogame, is that human life is cheap. There's a reason why edgerunners are becoming what can be boiled down to paid criminals, risking their lives for what would amount to 3 weeks of minimum wage pay in today's world.
I need a good picture of James so I can edit red skin and devil horns onto him.
I must be doing something wrong since my players' characters get happy endings despite the suffering I've put them throughhope at the end of the dark tunnel and all that
Brigador does make for some good looking maps, though I wish I didn't have to jump through extra hoops to turn the lighting on.seehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djB5D8HrVzM to see how different it looks.
Cyberpunk is a dated setting
>>98807738Just set it in Hell, or really close to Hell.
Outside of 2077, are there any cyberpunk CRPGs? With how deep the pondsmith games get and how long the aforementioned took to release, you'd think somebody would have released one of their own at some point
>>98808328Shadowrun maybe
>>98808328Well, there's the Sh*dowrun games. They're pretty good if you like bootleg XCOM combat and you can get past the fact that they were originally made to be played on a tablet. Its just unfortunate that the actual rpg has been so mishandled over the years by its publishing company with rules that are so convoluted and poorly designed to the point of being virtually unplayable that the name doesn't really amount to anything much more than a meme at this point unless you happen to be German.
>>98808869>>98808328Honk Konk > Dragonfall >>> Dead Man's Switch
>>98808894The first shadowrun game is super linear and feels like a demoThe second opens up a fair bit but the main issue is that everyone is a dipshit Berliner, and you're kind of railroaded without being given a reason to care. The third game is where it finally feels like you're a cyberpunk hackerman doing shadowruns. You're also pushed into doing the main plot but the motivation feels ok somehow>find your missing adoptive father along with your estranged brother
>>98808904>you're kind of railroaded without being given a reason to care.Having a genocidal dragon out to fuck your ass (as far as you know) seems to me like a pretty compelling reason to give a shit. I'm not really sure what you mean by railroading either outside of the prologue, and its not like that could have really played out any other way in order for the rest of the plot to happen.
>>98808904>The first shadowrun gamePlease don't act like the SNES and Genesis games don't exist. They're both fucking excellent games.
>>98808951I meant more the very early>c'mon MC! Hurry! We need to find out who killed your bitch gf in the tutorialYou weren't given enough time to care about her. It seemed different with the dad character in Hong Kong. Finding out what happened to him felt more organic and natural.
>>98808960>the SNES and Genesis gamesThe what
>>98808974The game literally lets you choose what kind of relationship you had with her with the later convo with Deitrich. The rest of the gang might feel differently about wanting to get payback, but as far as your MC is concerned this could be nothing more than just a matter survival considering that you're all stuck together after stumbling on something you shouldn't have and you now all have to deal with the aforementioned genocidal dragon with access to a swat team from hell and a shackled AI lurking on the internet like a shark just waiting for the chance to eat your brain.
>>98808974I liked hong kong but I didn't not like that auntie gang boss lady who owned our ass.I wanted to discipline her
Gobbet. That is all.
>>98809689I want to wash Gobbet.
>>98801122Hate awful things is good.>>98803960>tech advances to make things more simple and powerful>cyberpunk scenarion>this shit, OPicrel>"LOOK LOOK IS LE FUTURE 'CUZ METAL STUFF AND NEON DOTS!!"Perhaps AI-ccelerationism is good and whateverpunk artists deserve a little shockwave.
>>98808960All the SR games are just bad to mediocre, including the unreleased Japanese one.
You guys have really run out of things to talk about, haven't you?
>>98810200Half the generals on this site are one or two guys posting inane nothing bumps on page 9, hoping to stat a fight that can keep the thread alive because there's nothing else they can think of.It's a sign that they don't actually have any interest in the game itself and just want the thread to remain on the board, because if they had any interest in the game they'd be able to post something with more value.
I'd have plenty to talk about if more people played 2020or if I could get in a fucking game. On three separate occasions now I've gotten into a game, and before session one the ref decided they didn't want to do it anymore
>>98811811It's all so tiresome.>>98811947There's a very simple solution to your problem, but you seem like the type who enjoys coming up with excuses.
>>98812119Trooning out is not a solution
>>98812622No. Even worse: Becoming a forever GM.
>>98812705I don't think that's worse. So, a question to anyone who's actually played RED with the"official" ACPA rules, are they as monstrous as in 2020? And do they offer anything cool aside from bigger numbers? Do they do anything unique to the system that couldn't be replicated with just porting 2020 splats?
>>98812622Obsessed much?
>>98800453I want to but I can't get a pdf of it. Where the fuck is it? I don't want to wait till November and I'm not giving them money until I've looked at it
>>98814275Slap a black bar over her eyes and this is actually very useable for fetish art
>>98811947I feel those GMs. Every time I try to start something I'm stuck waiting for people to make characters, and when they finally get off their ass they make the most boring shit imaginable and ruin it before it even starts
>>98815603>cover up the lifeless eyesWhat, are you into this or not? Make up your mind.
>>98815717The eyes make the fetish. Cover them up and you can make it pass for real game art
>>98815599Nvm, found it.
>>98815726You know while I appreciate you sharing your culture with us, most people find dead, glazed over eyes unappealing. If you're not just self reporting I think you're just being a little bitch about the anime styling.
>>98815603You know, you could've easily gotten what you wanted if only you made your case that a visor would make it more cyberpunky.Instead, as the coomer you are, all the blood has left your brain and settled on your penis, leaving you with no active brain cells and making you think with the head between your legs.
>>98815818>>98820602Anons, that is fetish art made by a fetish artist. Being a newfag is not a virtue
>>98821550We know, sit down.
>>98821550what the fuck kind of fetish is that?
>>98813887I have, though I haven't played 2020 with APCA's. They make for a nice boss fight and bonus cyberware, with good loot and a target on your players if they survive.I'm done with red. I'm in the middle of stealing my favorite rules from 2020, Red, Interlock unlimited, and some of my own to make my own houserules document. I find cyberpunk red and 2020 really lack some of the necessary rules to run/play them as a proper sandbox, which is what I prefer.
>>98822981I fear that once ACPAs are in the game, that's it, you can't go back, you can only escalate further.
>>98823081Eh depends on how retarded your players are. If they lay low and play it smart they can keep a suit as their nuclear option, or on the DM's side you can send regular hit squads after them with different equipment and tactics rather than just upping the ante.
>>98823081My PC only uses her APCA in straight combat roles, mostly smash and grabs and the like. Just like if a Moto builds a tank they can't expect to drive it everywhere, the APCA is a big blunt instrument. Hers is even a pretty lightweight upscaled Grasshopper, if she had one of the big boys built it would certainly not be an every-day driver.
>>98821830This kind
>Uh-oh, the Barney Dinosaurs gang is having a war with the Mr. Rogers impersonators gang for the control of the territory.
>>98827513Do you use old icons that are relevant to the players (but make little sense in 2045 or w/e) for Poser gangs? Or create in-universe faded celebs that players would have to learn and may not care about, as basis for Poser gangs?
>>98815759anon please give me a hint where i can find it too..is it on annas or zlib?
>>98813887>MonstrousThey, and anything else for that matter, cannot be as insta kill as anything in 2020 is, because RED is a different comat wise by its design. A humble rocket launcher is still the strongest weapon in game, though I do recall discord trannies figuring out a MA combo that has a potential of dealing more damage than a single rocket ever would. It required like a 4 different martial arts, so to pull that off you'd essentially gimp your character from the get go, or grind a really long road to get there in normal play.Would make a helluva cool boss fight though.>anything coolIt's... it's something, sure. You get one unique stuff - resistance to MA SP halving, afaik it's the only one instance of it in the game, melee still works on you though, so beware. You've got the basic RED design, ie. bunch of utilities are crammed into every single ACPA by default, so ignore EMP, fumes, toxins, got independent oxygen that refills, can hold up in space and deep underwater, and you get a radar/sonar (so the price match up to required 5000eb), and can bolt up to 6 weapons.>bigger numbersThere arent really bigger numbers, anon. Hate to dissapoint you, but even including tuning top possible ACPA RAW is like SP19, so a tech upgraded MG. I'm not saying it's low, it's pretty big, but they arent their own tier of power, more like they can reach to the top of whatever was possible for borgs or really chromed up people. Rtalds really went an extra mile to make sure everything is gimped they did rebalanced the toxins poisons and drugsthough. My prime example is picrel that they made into 6d6 sniper, and it was a one shot kill for tough borgs, acpas and the like, now there are mooks that could survive the hit from the 37mm solid uranium slugs.>Do they do anything uniqueAside from making MA users seethe, I dont think so. Do not get me wrong though, these are pretty strong beasts, but they exist in a system that is adamant in being not really lethal
