it's actually a bit weird how often magic or other supernatural things are seen as being in opposition to technology and not something that can be used through it. I mean there are tons of urban legends about what are essentially digitally delivered curses or monsters that live in the screen and either drag you in or leave it to kill you if you encounter them

Alchemy affinity boosts charisma and personality, Legendary Deceit makes me the greatest troll to ever live, and I took every charisma beneficial alteration. I won't even need to fight, as my raw charisma will let me bully any enemy to tears.
I plan to make entire legions of artificially ensouled chimera to bow and worship me as their creator and any spirit I kill as an exocist will be bound as conscious observers into my devoted chimera servants.

How is science not bloody magic?

All scientists are sorcerers to some shade. That's why they seek theories of everything to unify different layers of reality. It's as if scientists believe as-above-so-below and as-within-so-without. Scientists believe in summoning entities that transcend the body like AI and wish to become transhuman themselves. Don't forget scientists' quest for immortality either…and think about their obsession with seeking patterns, their inclination to turn patterns into geometrical representations, and their wish for theory to be beautiful! Scientists might as well wear robes and dissect bodies on altars- no, wait, they're already doing that… Christ, they might as well sacrifice materials in rituals to gain a material back with transcended properties. Oh wait…

It looks like consistent prosperity when your baseline living standards are set by life in fucking Hindustan.
>>
>>98796649
The longest running civilizations in history are in China. This is because when civilization is at risk, all of civilization throws itself at itself, which is why Chinese civil wars are so fucking awful. When everyone’s prosperous you’re bound to reach a point where everyone’s miserable until that prosperity can be reached again. That everyone in that city even agreed to eat each other just shows how dedicated and committed they are to keeping their civilization going.
>>
Chinese philosophy is about unifying divides. When divides are present they tend to start massive wars.
>>
Oh nice new thread. Anyone mind making builds for my survey?
>>98796085

>>98793247
I want to run a couple experiments, would anons mind making builds to see if they balance things better?
>Experiment 1: Talent Discount
Making a builds where your talent rating in one aura type provides a discount. This is to make basic techniques cheap, master techniques slightly less ecpensive, and leave legend techniques largely the same.
Compare your "G" rating to the rating required for a technique, if you G rating is higher it subtracts it's value from the point cost.
Example:
Seismic Strike costs 5 poimt to buy.
Your build has G3 in Core.
Seismic Strike only requires G1.
Seismic Strike now only costs 2 points for you.
>Experiment 2: Aura Burst Mode
Kufoku mentions you'll be able to Double your points after completing an Aura Burst campaign, so why not make builds for that?
Make a standard build for your freshly summoned conscript, then making Another build for your conscript after completing all their campaign missions.

The second build gets build, free powers, and equipment points equal to their starting "Potential"(45 and a free great technique for talented, 35 and 2 free basic techniques for mutated, etc). They get no bonus alterations.

Given how the "Prodigy" alteration works,, double these bonus points and free techniques/skills for your second build, but equipment points are not doubled.

>The longest running civilizations in history are in China
Anon, no they aren't. The chinese love pretending that empires are the same to push this, even when the foreigners that replaced said empire existed at the same time and as a separate state from the empire they supposedly were part of.
Chinese civilizations lasted on the same era cycles of around 250 years, just like everywhere else.
>>
>>98796671
The famous Chinese proverb is "The empire, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide" (分久必合,合久必分, fēn jiǔ bì hé, hé jiǔ bì fēn).

>>98796649
Chinese history is fucking hilarious. Too many golden moments that never should have happened.
>>
>>98796686
You’re not comparing the right things. The Byzantine empire wasn’t the same thing throughout its millennia+ long reign either, and yet it was still perceived as an eternally Roman thing.

The dynasties changing don’t mean shit when the people still consistently identify with their cultural identity as one and the same.
>>
>>98796673
Has anyone ever actually made an aura burst built for your survey? As much as everyone complains, I've only ever seen "non-canon" talent discount builds.
>>
>>98796686
>Chinese civilizations lasted on the same era cycles of around 250 years, just like everywhere else.
Cute how you think the cycle number is always the same number, or that nations haven’t been able to delay collapses, or that some cultures are just better at long lasting reigns, or extending it. America is a great example. Let’s see if they can do it again…
>>
>>98796698

They didn’t replace them they enforced their cultures on them. You can see the difference between the Han and Manchu.

Once. An anon make a yokai build for before and after aura burst, but yeah the discount is way more popular despite everyone talking about aura burst every thread.
>>
>>98796707
The Byzantine empire is a parallel of the later dynasties of China, lol. Both fell behind the rest of the world for very similar reasons. Both looked inward and thought they had everything. They were obsessed with upkeep of the glories of the past.

It should be noted he said that in reference to being able to defeat them straight out of character creation, and proceeded to say that making cults for your spirits to make them stronger is a good idea, or even subjugating one of the trigram themselves to beat the others.

Culturally speaking the Chinese have become something radically different from what they once were, but their genetic heritage is still there, enslaved by the Manchu and then, later, Mao.

Genetics matters more than culture. Sorry. This is why European culture will always evolve into a form reminiscent of Christianity.

In the vanilla cyoa you can buy 1-2 legendaries(except alchests buying 5),with aura burst, you can double or triple that.
>>
>>98796745
Because intelligent people use comparisons all the fucking time, retard. Parallels exist all over the world. You’re an idiot if you think cultures are totally unique from each other. They aren’t. Your stupid 250 year cycle thing is an example of that. There IS a given lifespan of any given culture or civilization, and this extends to ALL cultures and civilizations, with select differences (it won’t always be 250 years; this is a safe estimate; some cultures also have threshold moments where they extended their reigns exponentially really, or a culture had multiple periods of 250~ year ups and downs, and managed to still come out on top). There ARE ways to mitigate the collapse and to come back on top. Most cultures and civilizations don’t do this.

>>98796738
Yea it's not intended to be taken literally as "no spirit can EVER beat the trigram no matter what!" and was in reference to boosting a small or medium tier spirit all the way up to trigram levels. Softies game plan of subjugating more/stronger spirits up the food chain is still a completely valid gameplan in all honesty.
>>
>Most cultures and civilizations don’t do this.

Actually I take that back. A lot of long running civilizations seem to have been a thing due to a periods of collapse having managed to make a rebound. Civilizations can nearly croak and then come back to life. Those periods of collapse are relegated to violent burps.

Some nations just don’t come back ever.

One major issue with that plan is that if the spirit dies they're set free and they'll remember who bound them.
>>
>>98796804
He can just rebind it assuming he has enough aura to do so when it dies. Given he has 60 aura, I think he will.

Ambivolent alteration doesn't let you buy aura from the cyoa. But you can still train it like normal. So you could train it during the burst all the same

Pretty sure softie said he will be in the thick of it most of the time, I presume so that he can actually capture spirits with subjugation in the first place. It's a downside for someone like ming yue maybe who just sends them out and hides in her room.
>>
>>98796818
>>98796829
I just noticed, nothing in harmonious restriction says it prevents spirits gaini g aura from worship. Just make sure you don't use a Silvered weapon for the exorcism and your Trigram Sword will have functionally infinite aura coming in from their cult.
>>
>>98796840
Doesn't even hurt your maximum aura possible, just the start.
Its harder to gain more aura the more aura you have, now you just have to gain 5 more aura, but the longer it goes it will less difference.

The time to go from 95 aura to 100 is the same if you have ambivolent alterations or not.
>>
>>98796854
Doesn't universal sovereign say spirits need to be present for worship for it to affect them?

Anons, you're assuming kofuko's instant meridian expansion shortcut is the same thing aura users do to cultivate aura. PCA anon confirmed they were different when we asking him if ambivelant cuts your ability to cultivate forever.
My understanding is that taking meridian expansion during the auraburst would be copying kofuko's fast and easy cultivation method, not standard(slow) cultivation.

I come to you with an epiphany I had last night.

CYOAs, as a whole, are about designing a new character and a new life for yourself from a pre-set selection of choices. Daydreaming a different life and person you could be within the limitations the CYOA imposes. There's no real "gameplay", just a character builder - you can have fun daydreaming about the character you built, but that's it. The hobby itself is focused solely on this character building aspect.

Are CYOAs not a very closely related, (very very slightly) more masculine version of dress-up games, like on DollDivine?

Discuss.

The abyssal lords, just like chimeras, are a threat to the rest of the city. Not to the spirit kings.
When the cyoa says something is dangerous to the city they are not talking about it killing Yama or Yudi, its about the common folk.

Not the same anon, but upon looking at the angel and holy state technique. They are written in a way which really doesn't make it seem like they're under Yudi. Connection to the highest divine authorities, plural? Ancient gods? To me that sounds like Yudi is a middle manager, even if he might be ordering the angels around locally, he doesn't sound like he's the source.

>>98796847

The city in between got its name due to being in the middle of the mortal world and the spirit world.

Heaven and hell are different from the mortal world and the spirit world, and are also stated to be what the city is between. The city between is between every realm, hence its connections to all of them.
>>
>>98797275
Also fusing summons makes them stronger by default, they get both their abilities

>>
It isn't that complicated guys. If the anime hits a wall where basically the city itself is too small because we become too powerful and have done everything. dont you also lose your human weaknesses by that logic?

>>98797299
that wall is already hit at the mortal level, earth is a million times larger than youdu and it's still too small for mortal humans

>Why would it?
because that's how every other summon works and this one doesn't have an exception written into it

angel fused with abyss lord can be stronger than plain angel, i don't se what's complicated about that
>>
>>98797308
And this is why you're wronganon, unironically.
>>
>>98797314

Alchemists, no sense of right and wrong.

that's nothing, wait until you hear it's part of the plan to fuse both into yourself and use the dichotomy to not go crazy
>>
>>98797305
>If I fuse an angel with the demon summoning method it's not going to significantly make it stronger it will just turn it into an archdemon summon or something.
...what?
Anon, fusing summons isn't like megami tensei where fusing demons just summons a new, existing demon type. SC fusion summons actually fuse the ingredient summons into a combined monster.
If you read the linked post and pic from this post: >>98797205
Pouring more aura into a summon makes them exponentially stronger. Fusion summons have the combined devotion cost of their components, meaning they get much stronger than the sum of their parts.
>>
>>98797338

>>98797305

What's not to understand? You can already summon incredibly strong things (spirits), and there are already techniques that let you make the stuff you summon flatly stronger so you can just build off those.
> If I fuse an angel with the demon summoning method it's not going to significantly make it stronger
...Ok, purely from a cyoa design perspective it should be pretty obvious that's not how it works.
>>
>>98797338
>Pouring more aura into a summon makes them exponentially stronger
That only works on the spirit summons which can have more aura devoted to them, so softies methods are really the only way to make summon rites actually strong? Fuck.

Not even 1% as crazy as they actually get:

This is the second time today I have to correct someone on a basic fact of this cyoa, in less than 30 minutes. I will go off 4chan for today.

You are heavy on headcanon in the last part of the cyoa. I suspect you are the same guy saying we dont know who is the god commanding angels, and then got humilliated with the receipt. Good night.
>>

This entire conversation is basically alchemists arguing about how to make the biggest, deadliest nuke that we all know they're gonna accidentally kill themselves with.

You are dumb.
The city is the middle point between the mortal world and the spirit world. Ffs, read undead's description, they literally spawn in the city for a reason.

Now that I got several points saying the city is between life and death, now show me the examples saying the city between is between heaven and hell

fixed. Going to sleep for real now.
Doubt you will admit it tho.
>>98797398
It isn't described as both.
People think it is.
The only talk about heaven and hell is about Yudi, Yama and the river of the souls. The city is never called between heaven and hell or anything like that, its the city between life and death, where undeads spawn
>>
>But powerful souls are in great demand in this City between life and death, and you’re just the one I’ve been looking for.
>somewhere in this City between life and death, the hidden Star can grant any wish of its owner’s heart
>A lot of people disappear without a trace in this great City Between Life and Death.

>technologies and treasures are buried in the infinite depths of the City Between, where only this pocket world between Heaven and Hell bears the record.

This is three instances of between life and death and only one instance of between heaven and hell. Obviously this means that Youdu is between three lives and three deaths, but there is only one heaven and one hell.

How do you tell the difference between evil and good alchemists? It says alchemy was taught to mortals by spirits. It doesn't say making chimersas went through that same pipeline. It also doesn't say every single advancement in alchemy ever made was made by spirits, which is a very extreme statement that you'd need to justify somehow.

Do you have any reason to believe no mortal ever came up with a new application of alchemy?

I have thought about this as someone who likes the Yokai. Normal shapeshifting like Inner Demon Chrysalis wouldn't be enough, you would have to use Transfiguration or a whole new body with Vessel transfer. Even then I would say you would have to take an alteration to gain either Inhumanity or Spirit Blood (Seen). If you already have Spirit Blood you might not need an alteration and could just unlock another Spirit Blood trait (same would be true for adding the benefits of other races if you have Undead Blood or Animal Blood), but that's iffy. Honestly "Seen" might be the best Yokai trait as a result.
>>
>>98797591
Her* obviously a Foid
>>
>>98797606
personally i think you could start with chrysalis and just train your aura system via regular cultivation and meridian manipulation until you make your aura system qualify for another eye

this may take a while but i don't see why it wouldn't work, everything in the cyoa is just starting stuff and a lot more than is listed is possible
>>
>>98797594
Its the same three fags arguing with each other for the last 2 weeks
>>
>>98797618
That could possibly work. Cultivating a change to your body until it is soul level. It's kinda obvious that PCA improvised the idea that to actually have more eye techniques the eye had to exist on a soul level after people pointed out how easy shapeshifting is. He created a lot of alterations that give body parts acting like getting them was somehow difficult when we are literally in the hands of the City's best flesh weaver. Shapeshifter race as a whole is extremely mid as a result.

Speaking of demon chrysilis, where don't core users that use it turn into chimera.
From what I can tell, the user is a real member of the species they turn into rather than a chimera using aura to fake it, even if the species is supernatural or something the core user made up. If another core user becomes the opposite gender of the same species, they could probably produce more of their kind without making chimera, and thus avoid the "Universal compatibility" problem.
>>
>>98797673
Which ones?
>>
>>98797684
mythic beast, mostly

>>98797681
>Speaking of demon chrysilis, where don't core users that use it turn into chimera.
a chimera is a soulless thing with hyperadvanced and aura-suffused biology but no aura system and soul in the human sense

core shapeshifters are already doing the first half of that, doing the second half would be pointless and completely detrimental
>>
>>98797681
Might work for an actual Jurassic Park scenario. I think the main issue is that no one really cares to do it. If you wanted to "safely" breed a bioengineered monster using core users getting freaky in monster form it would probably work but it would take much longer than simply making a Chimera with Alchemy. Core users don't make monster armies and Alchemists really don't understand the science of what they are doing. Honestly a Conscript with scholarship "genetics", could do Youdou a world of good.
>>
>>98797700
>chimera is a soulless thing with hyperadvanced and aura-suffused biology but no aura system and soul in the human sense
Anon, chimera can't be difined by the lack of a soul. Alchemists can literally make cjimera with souls of they use the right powers.
To say nothing about if a retarded bestality fetishist fucks a chimera and produces human-blooded sapient chimera...

>>
>>98797700
>mythic beast, mostly
No disagreement that it is a really good ability but it is very build specific. Outside of a dedicated mythic beast shapeshifter that is a literal dragon or something it's other abilities can be replicated with other techniques while undead, Yokai, and even humans have really exotic abilities that can't be gotten anywhere else. And the animals blood choices are kinda lackluster as they either grant body parts(you could easily get those elsewhere) or let you double up on two recovery dispositions that aren't really the ones you want to double up on in most circumstances. Prey's Reflexes is a nice Phase boost though.
>>
>>98797753
CHRISSSSS!!!! yea it's more likely they would go bad.
>>
>>98797745
didn't we just go over this like three threads ago?

if you remove that distinction then there is no distinction remaining between a high level shapeshifter and a chimera

>>98797770
i can see major use cases for mythic beast, which is more than i can say about the exclusives of the other races

like yeah aura drain is cool and can be built around but that one isn't even exclusive
