No phone policy at the table y/n?
>>
>>98804092
I play with adults who can be trusted not to be retardedly on their phones 24/7.

Also we need our phones so we get the government alerts.
>>
>>98804092
No, they're useful for lookups. Just ensure sensible adult players + nonshit engaging GM, so that the players don't doomscroll when it's not their turn.
>>
>>98804118
What has Hobbes got to do with it?

I trust my players to not be distracted by their phones and all of us get alerts from the RoK government sent to our phones since we live close to a ADA battery.
>>
>>98804108
Yep, the fastest way to look up spells is through your phone.
I encourage my players to use their phones/laptops to look up information that would take time to find in the rulebook.
It's also fine if a player needs to occasionally respond to an important message. Our outside lives still exist, afterall.
That policy doesn't apply if player spends the entire session scrolling TikTok though, that would require a discussion about whether or not they actually want to be here, and may be grounds to kick them from the group.
>>
>>98804143
I have a collection of well over 1000 dice.

Every one who plays one of my games gets a free set of standard polyhedrals matched to their personality eventually.

Why would we need dice rollers?
>>
>>98804092
Just play with people who respect you (those who don't play 5e) and phones are completely fine for various stuff. One of the players at our table made an app where we can track NPCs and take notes.
>>
When I GM at events, I suggest people not use their phones, and that there will be a scheduled toilet/snack/phone break half way through the session for X minutes.

If someone asks me to repeat myself because they were on their phone, the table gets 1 repeat, and I point that out to them.

Players are adults, but, also, I won't my time wasted by assholes who don't respect me or the hours of free labour I put in for them.
>>
>>98804298
I have had players use dice rollers and phone as an accessibility/disability thing.
These people rarely fuck around wasting time on phone, because they generallyrespect how much effort people put in to things.
>>
>>98804308
This is really it.

Phones are fine when they're fine, they're bad when they're bad.

"No phones" is a good, easy rule, but the real rule as always is "don't play with assholes".
>>
>>98804308
Why are you playing with people too disabled to roll dice?

>What has Hobbes got to do with it?
You designate the GM as the Leviathan and thus empower him to use physical violence against phone zombies, pretty straightforward I think.
>>
I use mine because the 3.5 app is pretty solid for tracking everything and its easier to look things up there. My retard friend keeps playing star wars games on his phone though
>>
>>98804092
Nobody owns any books, except for the one guy who doesn't read them and won't share with anyone, not even the GM. So it's digital tools for us.
>>
>>98804092
It's not an issue for my group. We're older guys so we don't have the smartphone culture, but primary it's because the place we play is some kind of faraday cage. It's actually kind of a hassle because I'm about to be running a HERO game and I'll be needing to translate mps to mph pretty often, or look up maps of cities.
I've been in groups where it's an issue though. Some guy with his phone stapled to his hand but can't look up his spells or know what happened between his last turn and this one, giggling to himself between his turns looking at videos.
>>
>>98804159
They're useful whenever there's a lot of dice to be rolled. Rolling 15d6 is fun the first time but if you start doing it semi-frequently it gets annoying.

Greg?

Also just multiply by 2.2
>>
>>98805178
Usually not an issue at my table but I can see that being a thing for games that use larger dicepools.

That said I'm old enough remember a time before internet on phones so I'm nostalgic for biggly dice rolls.
>>
>>98804092
Yes! I have a "No electronics" rule, actually.
I let people know that after their first session, if you want to play, you have to leave your phone, tablet, laptop, or smart-watch by the phone.
>>
>>98805195
This is not Greg, it's good to hear I'm not alone running HERO though.
>Also just multiply by 2.2
Fuckin' Oklahoma education system didn't teach me anything useful about the metric system. I know that song though.
>>
>>98805303
So, do you play by candlelight or lantern, or just do day sessions?
>>
>>98805317
You're not alone in running HERO in a faraday cage.

>>98805317
>Fuckin' Oklahoma education system didn't teach me anything useful about the metric system. I know that song though.

I'm British, we use both Imperial and Metric so you just learn to translate them. Also I drive an American made car (in MPH) in Korea (using metric speed). I have several speeding tickets...
>>
I take it you don't play Genesys then.
>>
>>98804636
Sovereign-sama... I kneel...
>>
>>98804359

True.

But "disciplined" players can use their phones only for game-supporting things (like quickly checking rulebooks or something) and put them away otherwise.
>>
>everyone will stop and stare at the doomscroller till they answer or take their turn
Stopped the distractions for the most part. Social reinforcement helps when your up against companies who spend billions finding ways to keep you addicted. We also play games with full involvement so its a bit easier when they have more to do in the table then on the phone.
>>
>>98804092
If it's being used as a life counter and/or a rule/text book, it's totally fine. Otherwise, leave that shit alone. Texting and doomscrolling can and should be put on hold.
>>
>>98804092
If you need to enact a phone policy you have already failed. In getting a group together, in managing a group event, and in GMing.
>>
>>98810664
>If you have a problem it's you that's the problem
Foid.
>>
>>98804092
Yes.

>>98804106
My players are also adults, we're in our 50's, but some of them are phone junkies so I have do demand that phones are turned off
>>
>>98805149
>the place we play is some kind of faraday cage
Colour me curious anon. Where do you play exactly? Faraday cages are used for blocking EM fields, radio, phone signals, things like that. Why would you play in a place designed to do that?
>>
>>98814472
NTA but concrete and rebar buildings and older buildings with lots of metal pipe work inside work pretty effectively as faraday cages.

Source: one of my family homes is from the 1860s and the other is from the 1700s and I've worked in a myriad of concrete bunkers in my life.
>>
I maintain a general 'no electronics at the table' rule.
If phones become an issue, I have a basket they go in to. If you object, you can leave, and people have left.
>>
>>98804092
The people I play with are in their 30s with kids. If the phone rings its important and you answer it, thing is we are all praying it bloody doesnt.
Nobody who has had to shuffle, beg, borrow and steal spare time to play a game for the first time in 6 months is planning to sit on their phone all game.
>>
>>98804106
>Adults can be trusted not to be retarded
>So we can get government alerts

I live next to an ADA installation the 긴급재난문자 and 위급재난문자 are somewhat important.
>>
No. Everyone's books are on their phones.
