>new paint from GW>same shitty bucket pots>slightly less paint per unit than competion>slightly higher price>less color range than all other major competitiors>most of the range is just rebrands of oldstock paint>range is limited special-order only How does a company worth this much money consistently fuck up so spectacularly?
>>98810565>range is limited special-order onlyWhat in the special order fuck now? I thought they were revamping their main line again, who the hell's gonna buy fucking PAINTS as special order?
>>98810594Assholes with more money than sense (GW target audience)
>>most of the range is just rebrands of oldstock paintSo I can (likely) still get the GW paints I'm currently using when they run out? That's not exactly a negative.RIP Scorched Brown.>>range is limited special-order onlyThey're on pre-order. Considering that my FLGS was filling up a rack in preparation for their release when I dropped by today, and my backup FLGS has them on their website as soon-fore-sale (neither being GW stores) I think it's pretty likely that they won't be special order only.
>>98810565>slightly less paint per unit than competionPaintpods of other brands do have 50% more volume. That is not just slightly more.
>>98810594>I thought they were revamping their main line againApparently they're not discontinuing the existing colours, these Tone Pros are just an extension of the range like Contrast paints wereAt least, they're not discontinuing anything *yet*. Depending on how well they do, I'd be surprised if it wasn't the long-term goal to slowly transition to them as the new main line
>>98811282Good point. 18ml of APF is $5 or $6, while Citadel 18ml costs $10
>>98810565As Sargon said GW is only worth what it is because they "sell magic" in the form of their setting. Sargon also said these paints were good except the container.
>>98812226>Sargon said
>>98812246Not only does he make good political content he also has a channel where he does 40K discussions and painting tutorials. He's probably one of the most prominent members of The Hobby.
>>98812296At least part of this statement is true.
>>98810565How are these different from the flexible triads from army painter or valejo's base, light, shade combo thing?
>>98812999The difference is GW charges an extra $5 for the equivalent amount of paint and has one less tone than the competition per color (see APF Flexible Triad+ at 6 tones per base color)
Wasn't there a quote of them saying the pots are specifically made to make people buy more because they are so shit? I swear I read that from them once in some business journal.
>>98812999GW's official stamp and the paints coming in terrible pots and overpriced.
>>98813237Wasn't that the really old screw tops?I don't think its as bad as people make out. I user droppers and GW pots and the thing people miss is droppers have a minimum amount of paint they'll drop out. Probably wasted more from that than the odd clean out of a GW pot, and none of them have gone solid in years.AK interactive twist top ones are rhe worst of both worlds.
>>98814623>AK interactive twist top ones are rhe worst of both worlds. Are you referring to the Deep Shades Acrylic wash pots?
Its funny because you actually get less pigment in this as it used more adulterants, so you are paying more for less pigment instead of just mixing more resin in using a glaze medium
>>98814836>using a glaze mediumIs Blending medium GW's retarder medium? If so then what is shade medium?
Well, people still buy this shit so...
>>98814836I mean you're right about how you could just mix in a medium, but I honestly don't think synthetic pigments (I can't see GW using natural ones) are going to be the big cost in the production of acrylic paints. That said I know nothing about paint manufacture so I could be wrong.
>>98814623>Wasn't that the really old screw tops?I'm pretty sure that's where the rumour started at least.>I don't think its as bad as people make outYep, it's grossly overblown , probably a good bit of "GW is popular so GW is bad" mixed in there. Now those old screw tops were indeed god awful, but outside of those? Meh.
>>98814853All just acrylic polymers with different levels of hydration and viscosity
>>98814866So what are the "tech pro" paints specifically then?>>98814865>"GW is popular so GW is bad"That's the problem with a lot of anti-Warhammer sentiment.
>>98814868I don't know gw's cult like terms? With tone pro it is probably a polyurethane resin with less pigment and more adulterant so that the pigment doesn't clump along with more filler for opacity (which will give it a chalky mat look)
>>98814820>Are you referring to the Deep Shades Acrylic wash pots?Sorry, I'm retarded and meant Pro Acryl were the bad ones for wasting paint, not AK Interactive.
>>98812999The paints are self-leveling and substantially more opaque than most other acrylic paints. I had assumed they were just a competitor for triads based on their marketing, but they're actually very different other miniature paints. In the future these are probably going to be my default choice for painting anything yellow.
>>98810594Someone was keen.
>>98814868>So what are the "tech pro" paints specifically then?Sounds like the technical sub-range of their new "Pro paints" range.
>>98814623>>98814865>>98814868>you just hate it because its popular!I hate it because every single line from the contrast paints has a warpped top. Right at the exact same spots, bought at different times and places (even counteies). Even after flipping the top inside out, after shaving down the inside area, still fucked. The inside of the cap captures so much shit and dries it out on that stupid fucking lip inside (which is really great for making dry flakes gum up airbrushes in the Air line!). Sorry but there is not an excuse to be in those bottles other then planned obolescence. Bonus bullshit: That flimsy little plastic shit thats supposed to hold the top open just dosnt, claps down on the brush and stops all progress as you clean up. If your solution to that is just take some paint out of the bottle: congrats, you agree the bottle is shit.
>>98816602Didn't say people hate it because it's popular. I will say the lids popping closed is fair, one or two of my pots do that. Don't have any warped contrast pots though. The design could definitely be better, my point was more that dropper pots waste paint as well because they have a minimum amount they'll put out that's often more than you need for small details.Something like Coat D'Arms pots would be better for sure.
>>98818364>The design could definitely be better, my point was more that dropper pots waste paint as well because they have a minimum amount they'll put out that's often more than you need for small details. There are three reasons you could say this:1. you're a spastic with no fine motor control2. you're a disingenuous lying piece of shit GW shillfaggot3. you're such a colossal fucking retard that you haven't realised you can control how much the bottle dispenses by simply not squeezing it enough for a droplet to come out while holding the nozzle near to the palette surface, causing the paint to put a little dab down but mostly get sucked back in to the dropperMoreover your "problem" isn't a problem even if it were actually true, unless you're some kind of fucking savage still refusing to use a wet palette. There is no scenario beyond being a complete newb who doesn't know any better that pots of any sort are superior to droppers, end of, period.
>>98810565>5 versions of each color for people who don't know who to mix>pre-thinned for people who don't know how to thin>still the same dogshit pots to ensure your paint will dry out before you actually use all of itWe're reaching the levels of brush licking never thought possible.
>>98812296I sometimes confuse him with that Australian Mormon.
>>98816602>Sorry but there is not an excuse to be in those bottles other then planned obolescence.Planned obsolescence is not an excuse at all unless you're a corporate cumchugger. If you meant an explanation, picrel is simpler and more likely.
Most hobbyist grade paints are shit, low grade unspecified pigments, fillers and extenders that de-saturate the color, cheap polyurethane medium instead of formaldehyde, no color fastness and the same price or more than artistic grade
>>98816532>$10 per bottle at the "retail" price??????????
>>98816430The “wasted paint,” acts as a seal when it skins over the nozzle.
>>98818965Nta but I hate how the dropper bottles with mixing balls get the ball stuck in the nozzle with dry paint, so then you have to squeeze with retard strength to get anything out or poke a paperclip in there or something
>>98810565>most of the range is just rebrands of oldstock paintThis is not true. They might be using the same pigments as an older paint, but it's not the same paint. I tried some after picking up a free mini and painted it unprimed and it adhered way better than the paint I have at home.
>>98820241>The “wasted paint,” acts as a seal when it skins over the nozzle.Really? That seems a bit strange.
