Itt: art that inspired you to write about fantasy subjects for the rest of your life non-stop because fantasy things are so metal and badass that you couldn't help yourself from falling in love with it for eternity. Amen. Am I the only one that feels this way? Please post your favorite stuff. Even the depressing stuff.
Well I don't write, I just GM.Here's something out of my reference folder that's inspired my current sci-fantasy post-apocalyptic game. I adore the isolation, which I also find handy in running meaning I have to keep track of less NPCs.

I'd say Ken Kelly's illustrations either for People of the Black Circle,
>>98815471Or his evenly awesome image for Red Nails
>>98815474The hazy background atmosphere, the power in the musculature, the impressive bodies, dramatic posing, it's good stuff.Clyde Caldwell is also pretty great, as a lot of his art covered the AD&D modules to give tone to how a lot of fantasy felt back then.
>>98815487Though now that I'm remembering better, I think Michael Whelan's "Sentinels" probably was one of the single most inspirational - it was the cover or one of the main entries in a "Best fantasy art" book back in my high school library and I always loved imagining the world that gave rise to such an image.
>>98815504I was sitting here wondering where I'd seen this piece before, then it dawned on me THAT IT'S THE COVER OF THE BOOK I'M READING RIGHT NOW! What are the odds?
Liz Danforth drawings from 80s MERP rulebook will always have a place in my heart. Sadly, I can't upload them (some IP rangeban or something of this Nu-4chan).
>>98815487And on the left: some random middle aged dude's head.
gonna risk being annoying and pretentious by saying non-fantasy art is what usually drives my imagination for fantasy. For me natural history is entwined with myth and folklore.
>>98813516Probably this one when I was about 9 in a used book store. Getting the VHS wasn't an option but getting books, even if they were total pulp, was a lot more acceptable to my family. Having a hard time finding a larger or full version of the art but it got me good. Not my copy.
Great thread op
>>98815861It sure is.
