Reminder that (you) will NEVER have wargaming clubs in the USA. You can never have pic related. You will be stuck in LGS hell and be forced to play mainline GW warhammer wargames FOREVER. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Based. Our local club is great and cheap. All ran democratically and cheaply.

I did see one New York club but the list to join reminded me of those polycules.

where is this club?

>>
Canadian here and before I moved for work I was a member of a wargaming club in Whitby. At its highest there were about 16 members. We organized tournaments and campaign events. We also had 2 tables every year at Games Day Toronto before GW stopped hosting that convention in Canada.
>>
>>98825252
I had one in college, but we were all too poorfag to keep our LGS from folding and we lost our on-campus playspace to a late-night diner in the dorm.

Our club is just as good so what if we only prefer 40k that’s our preference and that’s just what the shop carries anyway so it makes sense. Maybe get off your high horse and you could have fun like us, all are welcome even little kids because wargaming (which btw is what 40k is, you probably haven’t tried 11th edition yet?) is for everyone
>>
>>98825364
>wargaming is for everyone
No it isn't and trying to make it forever one erodes and dilutes it. It is for a specific type of autistic nerd. Attempts to water it down for mass consumption ruins it as we've seen over the course of 40k's last 20 years. I know you're a troll so just fuck off.

Tbf, 40k was really sweating for a hot minute when Warmahordes and X-Wing (and by extension, all three FFG star wars wargames) were threatening to overtake/outright overtook 40k like, a decade ago. So much so that the 40k designers panicked and we ended up with index 8th edition, which was good enough to turn a lot of heads. Unfortunately this was coupled with Privateer Press and FFG shooting themselves in the dick practically simultaneously with atrocious rules updates nobody asked for that ruined both games and killed what momentum they had, and ever since we've been dealing with GW dominance to the point that they could shovel literal shit in their customers' mouths and GWtards would gobble it up.
>>
>>98825424
That pic related truly and fully captures the essence of everything wrong with lgs 40k game product consoomer culture
>>
>>98825678
I never got in on xwing when it was good and I honestly regret it even if I don't like star wars very much :(
>>

it was a really fun space game. ships buzzing around. easy to learn, hard to master.
then 2.0, hey you need to re-buy every card you have, here a bucket of cardboard. splits the player base, kills the game
>>

Spain clubs mog every country btw. Best wargaming scene. Yes, better than UK.
>>

>Unfortunately this was coupled with Privateer Press and FFG shooting themselves in the dick practically simultaneously
Many such cases. Happened to Flames of War previously. And Malifaux. That's what I mean. Whenever someone seems like they are widely played enough to challenge Warhammer, the company then does something mind bogglingly stupid, usually burning LGS who then say "Fuck those guys, I am never ordering anything from them again", and becomes a ghost of itself.
>>
>>98825794
I heard warmahordes came back and is actually good again, but the problem is that GW is way, way bigger and harder to compete with now than it was then. I don't think we'll ever get a true GW competitor ever again just due to the fact that GW hit critical mass to the point that normies now associate the term "warhammer" with wargaming, like D&D and TTRPGs

The thing with American real estate is that it's increasingly squatted on by private equity. They view all these old storefronts, former factories, venue spaces etc as poker chips to trade with other rich lizard-people. They'd rather the properties stay empty than rent or sell them for anything resembling a reasonable price. I live in a pretty nice part of the Midwest and there are buildings that have been empty for 20+ years everywhere. When I was a kid in the 90's and a teenager in the 00's you'd see people under 30 do something organic with an empty building like opening a concert hall or independent coffee house.

tl;dr I don't think any gaming club would be wiling to to pony up enough to rent out a building so you're stuck with the LGS. The game stores really depend on the MtG freaks to pay the bills so miniatures guys will usually be in the back corner and most of the playing space will be screaming unhygienic card players. Every once in awhile you'll see a really cool LGS owner really spearhead and push miniatures so you'll see healthy communities for niche games in small cities of 50K people and then go to a city with 400K people and it's just a handful of 40K guys.
>>
>>98825851
Your real estate issues are not unique to the USA.
Everywhere has similar issues.
Property staying empty for decades usually is a result of government meddling in some form. Either some regulation makes the place unsuasible for some reason or taxation make it non viable for the intended permitted things in the area.
I see it in my third world country and know about the USA and Europe issues because we used to build things there too. Till both of you decided to do the stupid shit we do and completely fuck up your markets.
>>
>>98825873
It's either governments enabling private equity firms to pull their bullshit or actual shitty governments in the case of third world hellholes like yours
>>
>>98825783
Proofs?

Other than competition painters I don't really hear of much wargaming culturally coming out of Spain. Not to go into the slightly dodgy companies like AK Interactive and Gamezone etc.
>>
>>98825885
I was mostly thinking about bail outs and regulations that strangle business and encourage not doing anything with the properties because doing anything else beside playing poker chips is just stupid
>>
>>98825851
You lament this but in actuality those arcane zoning laws are one of the last bastions from the country turning into an actual third world shithole full of browns with their vape, barber, and shitty food places. There’s downsides, but I’d enjoy it while it lasts if I were you
>>
>>98825958
If you deregulated everything, then the lizard people would just find a way to fuck you over even harder, including fucking over honest small businesses (there's also the fact that at least 75% of small businesses are run by insane sociopaths but that's a different discussion)
>>
>>98825970
>guy maybe making an entire sector of the city a national monument is a retarded idea
>specially if it includes building built 10 years ago and you can't even change the interior of it, regardless if the building has public access or not
Random intentionally dense individual:
>clearly this means we must deregulated everything
The discussion is never about absolutes, but bad faith fuckers always bring it to it and such end turning a shit situation into a shittier one
We see it everywhere from energy production where retards refuse to build nuclear or dams and the country ends burning even more coal, because the meme energy of the week does not work in practice.
First, second, third, fourth world all do this stupid performative bullshit that gets nothing done.

This. They're really lionized in American culture but they always seem to come up with the same retarded schemes. "What if I classified all my employees as independent contractors? Surely no one else has thought of this before!"

extremely common practice amongst boomers

Just happened to my hometown's first pizzeria that was opened by a WWII veteran in 1950ish.

His Millennial grandson was turning the place around but his Boomer mom and uncles kept meddling. First they demanded he change the restaurant's name since he wasn't worthy or something. (Why wouldn't you want that sense of continuity? They really hate the idea of the world going on without them.) And now they're forcing the sale of the building to afford more cruises and Vegas trips, truly a demonic generation.

Boomers will forever be an enigma to me.
They were handed the most prosperous economy and overall status quo we've ever had on a silver platter and collectively decided "nah, fuck my kids and grandkids, I got mine" and just sat on their dragon hoard while everything around them rotted.

And as they approach their final days on this plane of existence, the only thought running through their heads is "I need even more".

Utterly incomprehensible mindset to me.
>>
>>98826191
You sound too set in your beliefs and too willing to demonise an entire generation.
It's easy to blame everything on a single group but you know reality isn't that simple?
>>
>>98826199
About 10% of you boomers are fine. The rest of you have issues.
>>
>>98826191

>>98826224
It's the lead poisoning. Almost all boomers have levels of lead in them that would be considered medical emergencies for current children.
>>
>>98826224
I think you genuinely have a serious problem if you think that anyone who defends a group must automatically be a member of that group.
>>
>>98826248
NTA, but in fairness to them... who else would defend boomers? Their parents and grandparents thought they were so selfish they called them "generation Me". Then everyone that came after them agreed with that assessment independently. I have never, in my entire life heard anyone have anything good to say about them except themselves.

Went to see my mum in hospital (she's had a hip replacement) and the boomer woman in the bed next to her was lamenting having to sell the house she and her husband built to downsize. I suggested she bequeathed it to her children or grandchildren and her answer was
>"Oh they couldn't afford it"
Feel I should have said more but I was too stunned at the retardation and blatant selfishness on show.
>>
>>98826104
Because the business is making no money. It only works for the boomer because their costs are locked and paid off.
>>
>>98826483
As would the sons, if the boomers were not demanding he finance their lavish retirement from the restaurants profits or cough up the inordinate sum they demand from him to purchase it.
>>
I lucked out that my grandparents were smart enough to leapfrog their children and left everything to the grandchildren. Grandma and grandpa were old school. Every generation is supposed to leave something so that the people that come after have a smoother ride than they did and over the generations the family had amassed some serious money. Meanwhile, my parents and my uncles were very open in their opinion that all money should be used up before they die cause anything the left their children was enjoyment of life that they had wasted. This selfish mindset pissed off my grandparents fiercely. So when they died, I was stunned to find out that I was not like wealthy wealthy, but I have some serious money. (I just threw it into index funds and have been living as if I don't have it for now.)

My parents lost their fucking minds over it. They demanded that I turn over what I inherited to them and when I said no, they "disowned" me. They tried to sue me twice, but that got tossed. They tried to kidnap my daughter from school and I had to get a restraining order against them. Now they spend their golden years talking shit about me to everyone who will listen cause the only thing their stupid, boomer asses give a shit about it money.
>>
>>98827354
i cant imagine the struggle of being american and having such shits as parents.
here you are expected to get your parent's house at the very least and they obviously wouldnt pull that shit.
>>
>>98827354
My grandparents and parents were very open about spending the inheritance.
My parents were fine with it because they did ok in life.
I have yet to hit that level but it’s a process. The money will be gone but some stuff will still be there.
>>
>>98827954
I can't understand the mindset of "spend it all" myself. The only investment worth making in this life are the people you leave behind cause they are the only thin that will be left of you. I am very much of the mindset of my grandparents on this.

But I've got a plan for my little girl. Oh buddy do I got a plan and it is going smooth as silk. I know this is off topic, but I've gotta brag somewhere. See the year she was born, even before this inheritance stuff kicked off I opened a 529 educational account and have been maxing that bitch out every year. When she turned 5, I got her an "informal job" where she receives "income" sufficient to qualify her for the custodial IRA. Been maxing that out every year, too. I got two credit cards on her name and wouldn't you know. This little girl pays her bills on time every.. single.. month. She has a higher credit limit than me and is on track to have a better credit score.

On school I have gotten her tutors and managed to advance her enough educationally that she has skipped 2 grade levels so far. That's gonna translate to two years ahead in her education and career and I am going to try to squeeze out two more grade skips before high school (where I will just have her do the full 4 years). If all goes well, she will be starting her associate's degree at 14.

If everything goes according to plan, and it has been so far, my girl will be coming into life at 18 with great credit, her retirement taken care of, and a bachelor's degree. Her life is going to be fucking AWESOME.
>>
>>98827354
The weirdest thing to me is when these same old guys just gives away free shit or at extreme discounts to anyone who isn't their kids whenever they pick up a hobby they really love. But they still won't do shit for inheritance.
>>
>>98828452

Going to high school at age 10 is going to fuck her over socially.

Let her do school normally. The social development is more important than the couple years' extra income, and from a purely income perspective will probably more than pay off.

t. kid who was shoved 3 years ahead and started high school as an 11 year old
>>
>>98829620
At this point she is already going at 12, so it is a bit of a moot point. That said, I've got a psychologist on board who specializes in these sorts of aggressive learning schedules. He helped to make a plan to mitigate any socialization issues that has been going really well.

The Fuck are you talking about? Wargaming clubs are a thing in America. That's like saying no one care about Soccer in America, it's big in America but just not bigger than sports like Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, etc. Same with Wargaming people play it, but it's not big compared to TCG and TTRPGs, they're often all played in the same game stores.
