Ok I'm on officially over trying to remember my entire campaign, what do you use to organize notes?

I like Scrivener, though it's a bit much for most people. Just use a Google Doc with lots of tabs. You can ctrl+f to find stuff so don't sweat the organization.

I have a folder full of .txt files, the filenames start with numbers to give me a sort of an index. For complicated things I have diagrams/maps drawn.
>>
Word Document + Headers + Indenting
That's all for me. And usually I organize my sessions like
>Goals
>Map
>NPCs
>Items
>>
Homobsidian
or Markdown

Is there something like a obsidian that doesn't force you into a single cancerous vault and instead allows per-folder collections

I think I've seen something like that in linux repos years ago, local wikis notetaking apps whatever.
But linux is its own kind of cancer anyway.
You can't go wrong with simple markdown in a text file.

I use old agendas I don't use at work, every year for a different system, or specific campaigns/settings if I have more than one in a system that require that much space.

Rules summary at the beginning, then PC and campaign details for quick reference, then you start with the campaign notes, every day is a session. Between sessions I use a page to write possible outcomes and NPC reactions to what happened, so that I have an idea of how to react/move things foward.
Recurring NPCs or enemies I use often get their entry in the phonebook pages, referencing the book and page number.

This is complemented by random sheets of paper where I draw shit to set the mood or, more often, I write down points for the coming session so that I have a framework. We're playing a system that allow for a lot of player freedom and expects them to ask a lot of questions, so there's no point plotting but you have to have an answer ready and keep things consistent.

Yeah. I have a folder with different vault configurations depending on their goal, and then I mount the folders I need in each one of them. It's much better.

I think there's several plugins that do that. The one I use is 'Code Space'. It's aimed for devs, for you can use it just for mounting folders. It works like a charm.

I can't edit so I add to my previous comment. 'Code Space' is not a different app. It's a plugin for Obsidian that allows you to use external folders.
