Are there any RPG YouTubers that are actually good?
>>
>>98830176
What do you hope to get from watching them?
>>
>>98830176
Guardbro is pretty good, love his TTRPG Veil Riders TTRPG, also fuck with TBE and just got his Wight Box. However most TTRPG youtubers went all in in 2020 and the market dry up from WOTC fucking people over the last few years. Also got to be honest. Due to 5.5 flopping as well as daggerheart not really picking up. They don't have much they can do. Back in the day you had tons of 3rd party support to talk about as well as the classic rip shit off from 4chan/reddit/tumblr. However they basically stripped everything out and we heard it all. So what else can they talk about or do. Talk about how much 5.5 failed, maybe how will Star Wars and Warcraft might do next year. Plus at this point, if you're not livestreaming a few times a week and/or your daily videos aren't making 100k-1m in a day or two. You're not make enough to go full time and people end up dropping it to get a real job. Especially if they have a family. (Doesn't help people like causing drama and it makes being a youtuber a problem nowadays with the swatting and Doxxing)

>>98830176
He needs to have a droid humping emote.
>>
>>98830176
Seth Skorkowksi is pretty much the only rpg YouTuber I consider watching, because he will only review things he's actually played or ran. That incredibly low bar puts him miles above 99 percent of ttrpg YouTube, which mainly seems to consist of people reading reddit stories and Wikipedia articles.

Some of Spoony's videos are also fun.
>>98830233
Guardbro is a shithead and a literal fuck fuck that guy.
>>
>>98830176
No. The entire format is built to be garbage and race to the bottom. Read a book.

Not strictly RPGs, mostly board games, but he's always worth a watch.
>>
>>98830176
I haven't found any that I would continue watching. Someone might have a series of videos for something about a game I'm trying to learn, so I watch those and never watch anything else from them.
>>
>>98830176
Well, Quinns, obviously. He is the best. But also woke af.
I also watch Seth Skorowski some times. I also like Professor DM, despite recycling like two topics over and over again.
>>
>>98830176
I like legion of myth but he is teeter tottering between being the go to tubers for palladium or dropping it.
>>
>>98830176
Seth Skorkowski, Corkboards and Curiosities, Spoony, and that's about it.
>>
>>98830176
why isn't he wearing the shirt?
No way they'd add him to fortnite without the shirt.

I'm surprised nobody on /tg/ likes Freddy.
He's a Scottish collector who actually played all these niche games back in the day and he still plays them today. One of the most authentic RPG YouTubers I've found. The only downside I can think of is how his production quality is minimalistic compared to some, but he's just an honest dude with a camera.

OP here, I'm mainly interested in finding out about new systems without the review being colored by hype for the setting or disgust for the author.
Sober mechanical analysis is essentially nonexistent as far as I could find.
>>
avoid questing beast, he's a grifter slopper
>>
>>98835192
It's a stretch, but Notepad Anon does short reviews of random RPGs. Not what I'd call "sober", but there is some mechanical analysis. I doubt much of is based on actually playing the games though.

I had a conversation with him once about 12 years ago. We talked about who we thought were controlled opposition on YouTube. I am 100% certain he was not controlled opposition himself given what happened.

This unironically. I've learned of Twilight 2000 thanks to him.

Mr. Welch
>>
Seth Skorwoski, Mr Welch and Notepad Anon, maybe Kam Sandwich but he's more a boardgame dude.
>>
Dungeons & Discourse talks about the business side of the industry pretty frequently. If you're into that check them out. I say them because I genuinely can't tell if they are male, female or a troon.

I enjoy kenandrobintalkaboutstuff, if that counts.

Not really, there's a few I enjoy from Dimension 20 (Jacob Wysocki, Never Stop Blowing Up probably my favorite shorter actual play) and a few from Glass Cannon/New Game who Dis (Skid Maher, all of the call of cthulhu stuff was pretty much great).

You do occassionally get reminded why some of the big names are big names (Brandon Lee Muligan doing Vampire in general or adrian clairmont in particular). And I get it. Its a job, it's hard to be 100 day in and day out. Just listen to what you like adn you might find some gems.
>dang
Fuck Wysocki so underrated.

Do you mean watching people play ttrpgs instead of playing it yourselves? Because that sounds extraordinarily grim.

How that balloon fuck isn't being chased by gamekeepers and shot with darts full of Ozempic I'll never know. He looks like that bear who got diabetes from eating out of drive through dumpsters.
>>
>>98857170
I responded to an ad on my small towns Facebook group to join a D&D campaign. It almost worked out but I found out half the party were under 18 and didn't want to join the game and assume the liability.
>>
>>98830176
Skorkowsky is like the only person with anything of value to say
>Actually knows the games he's talking about
>Actually plays the games he's talking about
>Never talks about things he didn't experience or try out
>Has rather sensible approach in general to GMing
This puts him like 3-4 tiers above literally everyone out there who is still making RPG-themed content for youtube.
All while he's like "an average dude with some interesting talking points and lots of reviews" on his own
>>
>>98830233
Guardbro is a faggot who draws horse/furry porn in front of his niece. That's why he's divorced now. He also was buddies with Neckbeardia, who ruined this board parasitizing off of it and making no one want to post greentexts here anymore. Guardbro also jumped on the Malfoid meme because he smelled profit so now he streams doing that, probably while living with his parents after his ex-wife kicked him out. Both Neckbeardia and Guardbro are the most boring untalented grifters I've ever seen. Anyone who follows him is a huge faggot. That means you, btw.
>>
>>98833216
>>98833145
Seth Skorkowsky is probably the only YouTuber who is almost universally-liked here. I like him too. Most other YouTubers I listen to while driving I think are fucking fags.
>>
>>98860913
I was extremely disappointed þat his "/k/ invades a fantasy world" story went to shit and became a standard self-insert isekai harem. At least he suffered for it in þe end.
>>
>>98861516
/k/ has one of the biggest concentrations of shitheads and retards on 4chan among its frequent posters. If we're talking serious legal troubles, you've Saigamarine and BPR who shot those guys at the MN BLM protest about a decade ago; you've got gross stuff like the cum brownies; you've got moral repugnance like the trip that decided to go be a merc for Saudi Arabia and got slimed last week; you've got really arrogant and annoying like planefag.

It's not a surprise that Guardbro is like that. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree with /k/ommandos.
>>
>>98858756
>There was this group I could join
>But I didn't
>Also, I never made an ad myself
Now granted, I might be biased, since I run an open table every other Thursday (thankfully next week) in the local rec center, with the admission bar set at 15, but you sound like a total faggot anyway.
Oh no, there are underage at the table! The horror! What are you? A pedo, so this is a serious distraction for you?
Also, you are fishing out in something that you self-labelled as a small town. You should be surprised a group formed at all, town-wise, rather than there are underage in it. When I was starting out, the population of people interested in RPG in my village was one - me. Still managed to cobble together a group out of the entire rural area. And that was when internet reaching that region was a tall dream.

tl;dr fags who can't get into a group pretty much self-filter, and usually for the best of everyone
>>
>>98835192
>I need solid reviews of games and game mechanics in action
Like so many people mentioned already, Skorkowsky is your friend. About third or more of his content is reviewing either games he tried, old games he played and thinks need a spotlight, new modules he tried and so on. Then there is his general discussion of game mechanics, which often involves games he didn't review separately, but mentions and explain how they handle this specific thing he's talking about.
>>
NTA, but I get it. You assume legal liability over children/under 18's in your care, to your detriment. You also brought up the other major reason; people will assume pedo if you play with under 18's, without fail.
Now, there also isn't enough information given. Half the group was over 18; were they early 20's or 40's or 60's? If the under 18's are playing with their parents, that can be okay if I know the parents. If it's in a public space, like a rec center, library or gamestore open table, then I can make an exception. If it's a young friend group, then no thanks. If it's kids at home, absolutely not.
tl;dr
play with unknown children is dangerous. Play with your irl friends.

>Retard goes full retard, while also missing the point entirely
>>
>>98830233
Nah, him and Neckbeardia babbling about "Lolis" on livestream was stomach churning.
The lack of self-awareness and armpit stench was palpable.
