The Wolves are boring, so they just make bipedal gunboats and slap 'wolf' in the name. No fun allowed in the ilClan.
>>
>>98836958
Feel free to make suggestions on stuff to roll for. I'm largely winging this with occasional input from a sourcebook like Campaign Operations or the Inner Sphere at War stuff.

The Wolves have the Orion IIC, so never felt the need to make a "real" totem Mech.

Only the storm wolf afaik, and it was directly commissioned by the wolves. Alpha wolf, war wolf, wulfen, artic wolf, tundra wolf, are all clan wolf originals.

The Wolves should really sue for copyright infringement.

I honestly think it's a missed opportunity that every Clan doesn't have a decent spread of retard totem mechs. This is a silly setting, lets do the whole dog and ponybot show.

>>
>>98837430
I don't think tech ratings bypass era restrictions. Put another way, The Inner sphere had the capability but not the knowledge to build BA in 3049, since they made working examples as soon as they got samples.

In prototypes and for some of the Elite forces on their capital, at least. Same with Star League E-rated units. But outside of said forces, it's mostly Succession War / Age of War D-rated forces.

Someone might have occasionally picked up a piece of Clan-rated F tech that goes beyond that from Clan Diamond Shark/Sea Fox if those relations don't turn out to be in the gutter, but those would be single one-offs or few-offs that doesn't really count for what native production is like.
>>
File: MaxTech.png (37 KB, 645x280)
37 KB PNG
>>98837491
Inner Sphere at War actually has restrictions on how high you can develop your tech depending on your starting Era, at least in the "Second Succession Wars" sourcebook if not in its original incarnation in the Interstellar Operations/Interstellar Operations: Battleforce book (might have it in there, but I have Second Succession Wars open, as that's the one that did some updates to the tech mechanics to include stuff like tech regression).

But with these guys having a founding during the Clan Invasion, we're well past these restrictions. Clans are pretty much intended to be in the 8s, 9s, and 10s, depending on how much you want to mock a specific one. And we're probably looking at how this Periphery nation is looking like after having been around for a bit, probably in the FedCom Civil War or Jihad at minimum (while I did group in stuff like the Hinterlands and Scorpion Empire, I was not strictly implying IlClan, just that if those things were around, that's what their opinion would be about the same as).

It probably wouldn't be Ravagers proper given the Marians only finalized those in 3084, which is Early Republic. Flip side, the Marians are on the opposite side of the IS from where the clans came in and were only able to startup the research program with help from the Wobbies in what sounds like the FedCom Civil War era with some delays when the Wobbies were kicked out.

Given these guys were apparently founded by pirates kicked out from their original areas by the Clanners and proceeded to conquer and create a brand new nation in the Clan backline, they can get started as soon as they succeed in stealing some Elemental Battle Armor via unexpected dezgra shenanigans.

How close or far that ends up from the Ravager will probably depend 90% on which suit they steal. Once we know the opinions of the Clans on them, might be worth making a set of RATs to roll on for that using the clans that don't like them to find out who they stole it from and what was stolen.
>>
>>98838341
It would be more likely for them to get IS Standard given that IS Standard is actually at least three or four "different" designs that are all suspiciously similar to each other and all but one started production with minimal to no public R&D. Having gorilla suits because some of the pirates were on the front against the clans is entirely reasonable.
>>
>>98838355
True. Though relevantly, the Tunnel Rat series does make mention of a set of mining exoskeleton having been made during Star League. Since there's at least two Star League/Pre-Star League planets, maybe they found a set of them in an old mine that got shutdown/abandoned and research on them plus the ongoing displays of Clan Elemental's BA is what is leading them to create a local IS Standard? One that favors a bit more of an industrial look leftover even though its equipped to Elite units as a side effect of this origin?

I'd want to say we're tight with the OWA, which leads to good relations with the Ravens when the RA happens.
Couple that with DC being Neutral, and our pirate origins, I want to say we started off as a pirate kingdom out of necessity, went legit and made diplomatic ties with our neighbors, and act as a buffer/reinforments during the Clan Invasion against the Clanners. Obviously the OWA would probably be a lot more openly grateful for that than the Dracs.
Maybe we even provided some heavy ground force projection as a sorta vanguard for the OWA's relatively weak conventional forces, and they provided us strong air support and more transport capabilities to ease logistics.

Just keep bidding a single mech so they have to duel you or lose face.
>>
>>98839526
Basically, numbers don't mean shit if you can just bid down to whatever works best for you in any given engagement, and Clanners have to go with it because their leadership will look like pussies to their subordinates if they don't, and that leads to having to fight off other Clanners gunning for their rank.
>>

Clanners regularly subscribe to the philosophy of "it's only dishonorable if you leave witnesses".

Pros of following Zellbrigen with Clan Opfor:
- Bid down to a single mech to reduce repair costs
- Expectations of transparency and honor
- You can always turn around and cheat
Cons of following Zellbrigen with Clan Opfor:
- You have to be able to win duels against Clanners
- You have to be able to win duels against Clanners
- You will probably have to turn around and cheat unless you're fucking jacked with seasoned lancemates because
- You have to be able to win duels against Clanners

Historically clanners don't offer Dark caste zellbrigen but just exterminate them.
Given their good relations with most of the clans, clearly they did something right to impress them during the initial invasion.
>>
>>98839576
Melee isn't actually formally against the rules, it's just looked down on and they tend not to do it. If a Spheroid engages in melee but is otherwise following the rules, then Zellbrigen would still technically be maintained.
Though the Clanners in question could still throw a shit fit over it, so it'd probably be something the pirates would want to hold off midnight until they're in a position to get the most out of engaging in melee.

I'm going under the assumption that at least a couple of the pirates in the band are actually pretty fucking cracked in mech combat.
Possibly as a result of needing to be good enough to fight samurai in past raids.
Presumably the pirates that former this new nation are a cut above the usual dregs that run pirate bands, otherwise they would have gotten steamrolled like all the big time pirate kingdoms in the region did, like the Oberon Confederation and the Greater Valkyrate.
>>
>>98839607
>viewing them as distant cousins who didn't join them on the exodus
Wouldn't they view those worlds as traitors then? Or theirs by right, which might have been why the focused on these worlds despite being a bit of a detour from their goal of Terra, and the pirates earned their respect from the fights they got into.
>>
>>98839627
>Wouldn't they view those worlds as traitors then? Or theirs by right
I mean that's also what they think of the houses, but it would give the pirates legitimacy in the clanners eyes and if they then proceeded to win in trials of combat they could then earn their respect.
I was more talking about something which might elevate them above dark caste, even if the pirates aren't even descendants of the original colonists. If their leader is savvy enough they could still leverage it to get more favorable terms during the Batchall.
The star league is sacred after all and here are free people who are not under the joke of the houses.

Since its specifically a Large Dropship Factory, it could be that ~100,000 tons of Dropship can be produced per year but how that all gets split up depends on the factory. So we could choose to declare that it expends that all on producing 1 of the 100k ton Behemoths, 5 of the 20k ton Colossus per year, or 52 of the 1.9k ton Manatees. Or some combo of multiple different dropship classes that totals up to 100k.

Maybe a max of 3 different types per factory?

Well we're in the Periphery, so it'd probably be a good idea to have a variant that focus on ferrying tanks and aircraft too.
It's starting to sound like the Pirate Band is a naval power that can hit above its weight class, albeit it's weight class is pretty small to begin with.
They probably go nuts with Pocket Warships when those are introduced.
>>
>>98842908
Given the double large plantery dropship factories on 5 pre SLDF founded worlds.
The clan founding era.
And the nation being founded by displaced pirates?
This feels very much like every single periphery pirate getting pushed out of their homes by the clans, only to make a desperate last stand at one of the only free ports and shipyards in the area.

The survivors establishing themselves as a small trading empire in the clanners backyard.

That's kinda already a thing with the Belt Pirates of Star's End. They had so much asteroid based defense in-depth and a functional enough shipyard that the clanners would have had to divert warships and delay their invasion of the Draconis Combine in order to deal with them. So they didn't deal with them, at least during the invasion.

I'm thinking the Band, being a Periphery pirate band, relied mainly on combined arms and saved the mechs for the commanders and aces to handle drac duels in the past, so reactivating in-house Battlemech production is a big deal. Now we just need the most fitting mech to build.
The easiest answer is a Banshee variant, it's very fitting for pirates, but we have plenty of options.

I like to imagine that, while primarily European, the tradional relationship between the Pirates and the Dracs, plus the shared religion, means there's been plenty of Dracs that ended up mixing into the state and there's some Wako culture here and there among the different crews that make up the state.

>>98843089
Catholics do not and have never worshipped Mary, nor the saints, that's just slander. But I'm sure you know that already.
>>98843115
I was thinking Wako too. Drac exiles (and maybe refugees and slaves) mixing in over time explains both the culture and part of the neutrality, since they are culturally Drac in many ways.
>>98843090
That fits nicely.
>>
>>98843068
Another option is that it's a factory they slowly built in secret, since the constant solar flares presumably make it harder for Drac scouts to find the facilities buried deep underground to protect all the electronics.
The great houses have a tendency to go out and kick over any mech factories the periphery tries to build after all.

As for which Heavy/Assault mech
I would personally recommend the Warhammer-6R, it's a classic every man mech and quite deadly when swapped to its C variant with looted / purchased clan tech

Being Rugged, Ubiquitous, stable and even having searchlights.
While also fitting the dueling theme nicely
You don't need that many assault mechs overall, better to have your average pirate member be equipped with weapons that make a clanner think twice.

The warhammer is very good but I feel like something more 'totemic' would be appropriate, even though the warhammer was an SLDF favorite, it's also damned ubiquitous. I was thinking the Banshee since it's a pretty established pirate 'mech and with the excellent commonwealth relations it's not crazy to think they had help getting a variant that isn't shit, though the shogun is also a good choice.
>>98843181
The merlin is a new dropship made all the way in the League. I think the Legion is better, for both SL and Clanner ties.

If we're going with something totally new than a merlin or banshee factory would fit best, and if we're going for something older than a shogun would fit that and also be mildly amusing to everyone involved.

We could also potentially have it produce two mechs, or only one mech but parts and support for another, though this would firmly establish the realm as very much on the up-and-up and powerful without some factor to drag it down.
>>
>>98843202

>even though the warhammer was an SLDF favorite, it's also damned ubiquitous.
That was partially the idea, even the clanners will buy spare parts for warhammers because they have a ton of them in their solahma units.
And that means their factories can churn out spare parts for far more important things.
If you're going to build a mech factory in secret and you have access to insane amounts of shipping through dropship factories, you should pick something you can sell to absolutely everyone.

Gotta remember that our tech rating is D across the board, we can't really make fancy shit but might be able to ship it in from some of our allies if we pay the outlandish shipping cost of getting past all of the clanners we're chilling behind.
I know this is a list of mercenary mechs available from like 3058+ but I don't have a availability chart for clan era pirates, but something tells me they would have even less stuff available to them.
Especially when all we have is a single heavy/assault factory hidden underground on a planet that gets bombarded with space radiation constantly.
Would need a availability chart for either the Periphery or Pirates
And also remember that just because the factory is not pre-SLDF, it was most likely built during the succession wars and not with fancy helmcore technology, since that would only be the houses and mercenaries who had access to that during the clan invasion.
>>
>>98844430
Clearly AI. Look at the artifacting. It's just been trained on anime.
>>
>>98844537
Now I kinda want a Grasshopper desu
>>
A better question to start with when it comes to battlemech production is: Which standard engine can we produce?
For example a Banshee uses a 380, which doesn't fit in a lot of mechs
Merlin uses a 240
Warhammer/Grasshopper would be a 280
Or a 260 for the thunderbolt

Since the engine is undoubtedly the most expensive part of any battlemech, the underground factory can likely only produce one size and then we'll have to use that for replacing most mech engines when they get wrecked beyond repair.

Like for example replacing one of the arms with one that has a hand so you can fit a hatchet, moving the medium laser to the other arm and dropping a missile system to make room.

Which mech is this? I don't recognize it

Cricket. One of the new 3150s mechs introduced in the ilClan-era Recognition Guides.

>XXL engine
This thing is going to cost more than an assault mech despite being 30 tons isn't it?
>>
>>98844885
Light mechs with XXL engines tend to cost about the same as heavy mechs with XL engines. Which is still absurd, but nowhere near as much as heavies or assaults with XXL engines. Those encroach into dropship type prices.

>Dropship heavy pirate kingdom
>Has access to battle armor in limited quantity
If we don't produce a mech that works for space combat and boarding actions then we are all collectively idiots with the wrong priorities.
Jumpjets should be considered a must for dueling purposes also.

Something like the Black Hawk U for boarding enemy vessels with a giant mech arc welder, sword and a ton a ton of machine guns, micro pulse lasers and heavy mediums lasers.
Obviously for shredding battle armor after you vent all of the infantry and crew into the cold vacuum of space.

Obviously we aren't going to be producing clan omnimechs, but I'm certain there either is an obscure space combat refit in the heavy/assault category, or some brave anon has an excuse to get tinkering.

Vlar 300 is objectively the best engine , followed by Pitban 240.

Every medium mechs best friend, besides mobility is for people who aren't on permanent dropship factory garrison duty.

Clans hate LAMs on general principles. If we make LAMs, Clanners won't like us.

Depends on the Clan. Ironically having LAMs would actually fit really well when you consider how Ravens and Hell's Horses really like us while Jade Falcon doesn't lol.
>>
>>98845009
This feels like a good excuse to negotiate with Diamond Shark to have a local production line of Phoenix Hawk IICs in the future, but understandably wouldn't really make sense for the NB factory.
I'm leaning harder on Grasshopper now personally.

What if we just roll for it? A mech by committee is just gonna end up milquetoast, and people seem to be prioritizing different things.
Roll for the mech frame, then we can look into variants.

It's not liking or disliking ASFs.

LAMs are materiel miscegenation. In the Clans, you can be a Pilot or you can be a MechWarrior. You can't be both, period. QuadVees show up pretty late in the timeline and are frankly idiotic anyway.

The Bears and Horses might be a bit more relaxed, I guess.
