>>98844350You would think so but outside of some historical places, they have full access to technology that they do try to avoid but need due to safety concern (especially wildfires)>/t. Dad went to Mt. Athos every summer for a whole decade to supervise a waterworks/plumbing project for one of the oldest monasteries over there
>>98849252Yeah, a lot of historical places have technology. Just they keep it in the back. So you're not going to see tv, lights and all in the open. However they still have plumbing, and often a room for computers and high tech equipment. Often having someone who knows how to use it or a few people who can be trusted to use it over letting everyone get on the net and all.
>>98852878They use lights, but TV? Hell, I don't have a TV in my house. A lot of everyday tech is severely overrated and you don't really need it. It's not really about this aversion to new tech, but if you are fine with how you live, you don't really need to actively use new tech. I myself have only previous year started using a modern touchscreen phone and I don't have the feeling I missed a lot of anything really. I don't like this dogma that monks are barred away from technology and that it's kept behind some locked door. They just don't really need it. They will use lights, lawnmowers, chainsaws...conveniet stuff like that, but otherwise why waste your time on literal poison.
>>98854022>They just don't really need itYou're going to scare the normies. I've had people straight up unable to imagine that someone might not have a TV or a smartphone and accuse me of lying.t. TV-less dumbphone enjoyer
>>98854126I wish it was normies. Everyone is addicted beyond saving. I work with art related highschoolers. Most of them come in some alt/goth/punk/gaming culture and they can't fathom having less than 20 minutes of screen time on your phone per week.
>>98854930Well, at that age you have the possibility of making a real impact on one or two kids per class. Even if you never get to see it, having had an adult show a kid a different path he can take can make all the difference down the line.
