Sure, out of all euclidean shapes the sphere has highest volume relative to surface area, it is optimised for power.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ujnA9HNYXU

>>98842834Yeah, you know what's another name for a sphere? A ball.Fireball that is.
>>98843645In D&D 3.5 fireball allows spell resistance, while an orb of fire doesn't.
>>988442203.5 was a silly a edition.
>>98844322Nah, it makes perfect sense, with fireball you evoke magical fire while with an orb of fire you conjure a piece of nonmagical fire/plasma and fling it.
>>98844335What is the difference between magical fire and nonmagical fire? Is either or both of them affected by fire resistance/immunity? Can they set things on fire or cook a meal?
>>98844348They're both affected by immunity or resistance to fire, if the spells describe that they can then they both set things on fire as normal. The difference is magical fire can be bounced off by spell resistance and cannot exist inside an antimagic field while a nonmagical fire can. For example if you throw a fireball spell at a stone golem, it's unharmed because it's a magical fire and stone golems are impervious to magic, but an orb of fire spell damages it because it's effectively nonmagical fire thrown at it.

>>98844348>What is the difference between magical fire and nonmagical fire? Is either or both of them affected by fire resistance/immunity? Can they set things on fire or cook a meal?it's the difference between Evocation and Conjuration. Fire resistance applies to both magical and non-magical fires, but Spell Resistance and things affecting magic don't work on the latter unless it prevents the casting entirely. Enemies with spell resistance, or something like an Anti-Magic Field, can resist or turn off magical effects and evocation effects and the magic flames won't work as well or at all, while with Conjuration the actual magic is in bringing something from Point A to Point B.If you conjure a completely nonmagical anvil into the air 30 feet above somebody's head like Loony Toons, the heavy anvil falling on their head and going splat is not a magical effect, and even if you're fighting a high level Drow priestess with Spell Resistance, she'll still get crushed like a bug due to the entirely mundane effects of gravity and weight. The magic spell was in teleporting an anvil into the air above her head, the anvil itself isn't magic.Similarly, while inside an anti-magic field, you can't cast the "summon an anvil twenty feet in the air over your head" spell, but existing anvils you've already dropped on other people won't cease existing inside it, the spell's duration is instantaneous because the magic is in conjuring an anvil somepalce it shouldn't be, it's not an anvil made out of magic. This is why many Acid spells were so useful in 3.5 and Pathfinder 1e, since even against enemies with spell resistance or magic immunity, many offensive conjuration spells are Spell Resistance: None because you're just using a spell to spray completely nonmagical aqua regia on them and melt their faces off, or fill a hallway with mustard gas because the geneva convention is more of a to-do list for Wizards.

>>98842889IIRC its less that noticing that the moon was there at all was some grand feat, and more that realizing what the moon is *capable* of was the real discovery. The moon being functionally inert compared to all of the other sources of power in space was, itself, incredibly special and could be utilized as a barrier to tell the space gods to fuck off. Its like lead being a base metal that doesn't seem all that important until you find out that it stops radiation.
