ive played tree games over the weekend, both as sisters of battle since im still learning the army...

the first game was vs a sweaty tourneyfag running an optimized ork list. (very nice person outside of game) The game didn't last very long. they popped turn 1 waaagh, got max distance on all the advance and charges and that was gg. I learned that as sisters vs orks keep alot of units in reserve and hide behind terrain as much as possible. The one highlight of the game was my repentia brick dropping ghaz to 1 wound then a vehicle explosion did the final point which felt nice

my second game was vs a based csm wordbearer lad. Learning from my last game I stayed much further back and let his units rush up the board into my overlapping tank fire to soften them up for my infantry. I mainly fought over the two nml objectives and let him have the middle objective since I did not want to fight a huge chosen brick backed up by the warp talons. The best turn for me was turn 3 where my Warsuits led by Morvenn managed to take out a maulerfiend and a daemon prince of slaanesh. i had a ton of fun in this game since it was mostly infantry fighting.

>What are you hoping your codex changes about your army?
Eldar, like other similiar armies, are kinda fucked by the general rules and how the scoring works. Hopefully the next set of cards will adress that and make denial a somewhat relevant strategy again.
In terms of army itself, individual units need to be more killy. Aspect warriors should hit on 2s and get like +2s to their weapons across the board, atm other than dragons and banshees they shoot water guns.
Also, I hope harlequins get the custodes treatment and become significantly more elite rather than just another flavor of an aspect warrior.

Oh yeah that one was legendarily bad for a number of reasons. Like the more you look at it the worse it gets. And this was the first box they made the big price hike on battle boxes for. Although technically it had two new sculpts as the incubi were the first time they were in plastic instead of resin alongside the new drizzar.

If he's not playing sweaty competitive leagues, he can have a green tide list with 50-60 boys depending on how he wants to spread them out. Put one 20 boyz with warboss plus some support char into a battlewagon. Meganobz are generally good elite unit. Dread is only questionable unit
He can also use boyz to kitbash breaka boyz from Wrecka sprue.

You need prime the base first, and this will sound silly. But put some shade or wash paint on the primed base as well. it will be sooooooooooooo much less fragile if it has paint to stick to and not just primer.
Then once you have slathered, and it dries, gently apply either another wash or shade, or if you dont want to add anymore color, do a varnish.

If dont do this it will crumble off the model promptly.

I have several guard friends and I don't hate the players themselves. I even think they have lots of cool models and neat theming across their many regiments.

That said, I kind of hate the army on the tabletop. They're such a slog to watch other people play through and move around and try to remember all their rules and what is buffing what each turn and their shooting just takes forever and flip flops between doing nothing and suddenly clearing half your board so they have to take every single chance.
>>
>>98857661
The reason I find the guard annoying is they have like the second biggest collection of models and sheets, and have been bad for like 4 months and act like GW fucking hates them, when other factions like DE, Demons, and GSC exist.
Only CSM, as a group competes for GW's second favorite faction spot with the Guard.

I think guard need a rework personally

scrap regimented units, just have it be an "infantry squad" etc as before
and make orders the cherry on top, not the main faction ability, or at least make orders more engaging than "I do order"

i'd make it so that officerd share their leadership to units in range, and vox casters extend it
then the officers can issue orders to any number of units in that range and take a LD test to do so, with a -1 to the test for every unit beyond the first so it gets harder

why is it guard one of those armies that people think you have to give stupid rules to to make the army work.
like marines can get advance and charge or assault weapons (the doctrine thing) on demand without jumping through hoops and multiple ways to turn it on again.
this goof wants to tie orders to leadership tests. one of my last guard lists had over 20 orders to issue. so that's over 20 Ld tests to take slowing the game considerably and with the -1 I'll probably lose more than half of them. Just terrible. This is not fun game design.

>Vahl gets lone op and can no longer lead Warsuits, goes up to like 350pts with statline/ability changes to reflect that
>Warsuits get a buff so they are actually good on their own
>New fast attack (people say horses but it'll be something else)
>Repentia unit with pointy meltacharge sticks

They did it to make marines feel better as stated in their warham community articles. SoB were never mentioned once. Imperial Guard didn't get improved boltguns in line with the new marines stuff.
I guess in the end it could happen but it wasn't stated in their initial statements. This is the same as CSM players thinking they are going to lose rhinos and predators even though GW hasn't said anything about that.

>Marines didn't just go up to T5 because of power armour.
The same Marine might wake up one morning and put on Phobos (T4), Tacticus (T5) or Gravis (T6) armour, without the underlying man changing in the least.
>>
In a S5 world T3 vs T4 doesn't really matter. Sisters players would probably complain about having to pay for a meaningless upgrade if it did happen.

Armies in general do need to be 20% smaller though. Game is becoming unmanageable on the non-elite side.

If you could pick any single box product GW has ever released for 40k and bring it to the table and have to fight with only the models contained in that box under current 11th edition rules, what would be the most powerful box in the game? (for one faction, no battle box team ups)

>Marines didn't just go up to T5 because of power armour.
But they do.
It's not really consistent. Sisters or eldar wear special armor but are T3 like a guardsmen, because they're roughly only as tough as normal humans.
But marines are between T4, T5 and T6 depending on what kind of armor they wear even though the guys wearing the armor all have the same biology. Same with custodes, terminator guys have extra T.

sisters. they feel like shit to play and their army rule fucking sucks ass mechanically and thematically. Toughness differences are what they have to use when there's nowhere left to go with things that actually matter (saves, wounds). A sister of battle is more durable than a grunt because she has a 3+ normal save rather than a 5+, and less durable than a marine because of the single wound. The toughness stat is just for flavour and internal balance/variety in marines. It doesn't matter much and not having to pay for T5 is one of the reasons phobos marines are now meta picks over tacticus (without invulnerable saves).

Imperial Agents is the obvious answer because they don't have an army rule but they're basically abandoned at this point anyway. Second worst is probably Chaos Knights but I also hate that the faction even exists. So I guess legitimately the worst one might be Guard? They just kind of... Don't work properly right now with how the rules of the current edition want tables to be set up and missions to play out.
Honorable mention to Drukhari and Sisters for having a lot of the same problems as guard but not quite as bad since their special rules are slightly less convoluted and still work through Battleshock.

There's plenty of space now to make some currently T3 units T4, but fundamentally I don't think that changes anything about how lethal the game is right now or how armies play on the TT. Lore wise guard should have like 400 infantry bodies on the table plus 8 tanks, but you can't really do that, so how do you make a brick of 20 guardsmen feel like 100?

>>98857879
T4 makes a legitimate difference with all the high S weapons floating around right now. Sisters being wounded on 3s vs 2s for S6-7 weapons is a big deal. Also Phobos are good because despite T4 they actually have really good other stats making them a good choice over regular intercessors

>>
>>98857967
The real reason it's crazy is that they didn't get a points increase to compensate, but movement is still useful on a unit that stands stationary three out of five turns in the game because of the potential it adds to them. Especially in an army with easy access to advance, fallback, shoot, and charge shenanigans.
Every inch you add to a unit increases its threat range linearly but increases its threat area exponentially. Each additional inch of move speed is more impactful than the one before it. At 8 in of move speed a unit can reasonably run from cover to cover without being exposed anymore. A deep strike in your back line can reasonably be pivoted back to and charged into to close up a flank. You can run into cover and make it up to the second floor for plunging fire instead of having to sit on the floor. You can stage 2 in further away where you are safe and not give up the option to threaten someone if they advance. If you have to fall back, you can actually fall back into a safe position instead of still being left in the open. If they are one of your last units standing in round five, they have a reasonable chance to get where you need to get to secure those last few points you need to cinch the game.
It just adds a whole suite of additional options to a unit that was already good so that even if you won't take the most games, when they do come up, you now can take them.
>>
>>98857988
Well they did go up in points. Reivers and Eliminators from 75 to 85. Incursors 85 to 90. Infiltrators went down without the op deep strike denial bubble. A lot of that is justified by the power increases while some abilities got slightly worse (no "any phase" on the haywire mine, reivers OC-1 aura is by model not whole units), but they did go up in points.

AP-1 on bolt carbine shooting is the strongest buff phobos got.

Reivers now also have both a gun and a knife, they're much more deadly now in shooting and melee than before.

Are a better version of your non-SM army*. FTFY GW has given space marinefags access to basically everything in the game while ALSO being extremely point efficient while ALSO having great movement and killing power. At what point exactly does the marinefag take a look at the dire state of non-SM armies and realize that the things they are given other factions have to pay MORE points for less of everything. Your army baseline saves on 2s and 3s. You have more than 1 wound. You hit on 3s and force opponents to save on 4s and 5s. You have eldar tier movement. Just what exactly are SM midrange at when they are better than everyone else at everything?

>>
>>98858166
I get it, you don't play the game and things look really unfair when marines get new stuff so often. But if marines were really so strong they'd be getting more tournament wins and higher winrates than they do. Whenever something emerges that is genuinely OP (like new victrix was) it is nerfed fairly swiftly. Terminators were awful in 10th and are enjoying some time in the sun, and yet custodes still did the same list better before their new codex.
>>
>>98858162
They didn't.
Yes, on paper, they did get it. But very few of their units actually got anything out of it. Legionaries are almost always only played in 5s with two heavy melee weapons, and heavy melee didn't go up in strength. The chainsword buff is nice but realistically it affects 3-6 models across an entire 2k point army.
Accursed weapons and powerfists were unaffected, so chosen and terminator melee damage has fallen through the floor, compare chosen and bladeguard and fucking cry. Terminators are the ONE unit that actually got something resembling a buff, and that's on their bolters. A big terminator unit can now put out some stupid shit in the shooting phase. Of course, you pay more than loyalists for the "privilege".
Then, a ton of their stuff got much worse from the marine buffs. Defilers (who have been eating huge nerfs) have a lot of S6, S9 and S10, all of which are breakpoints that suffer badly against the new marines (you'd think S6 would be great, but gravis and terminators are T6 so no). Forgefiends at S10 are worse into enemy terminators and terrible into gravis (because they get -1 to wound from a detachment). Raptors pay out the nose for heavy melee that went unchanged, and Warp Talons are also still S5, meaning they're much worse off now too.
And so on.

Take Cabal of Chaos as your 1DP (Almost all 2DP can make use of it, so that's more to taste), put a termie sorcerer or a termie lord with the psyker enhancement into the unit, have a termie sorcerer apply death hex to their target and a helbrute stand near wherever you're dropping them (the footprint will be huge, and the heavy weapons can string back to extend it if necessary).
That's 36 S6 AP-2 D1 (8 terminators + the combi-bolter on the character) shots with sustained/lethal and full hit re-rolls, just from the bolters and they can have two reaper cannons and the sorc's psychic shooting too. You can add on all kinds of stuff, like in Fellhammer you can have Warp Tracer somewhere else to let them ignore cover, renegade raiders can take them to AP-3 against enemies on objectives and so on. Combi-bolters going from S4AP0 base to S5AP-1 base is kind of nutty for CSM terminators, they were already shooting respectably.

Agreed. I don't think any model should ever have an invuln better than 5++, and even that should be exceedingly rare. Yes, daemons should have regular saves.
>b-but my dudes will be so squishy without a 4++ or even 3++!
AoS is fine and it doesn't have invulns (except nighthaunt, and they don't get better than 5+ saves). If AP or general killiness was reduced invulns would be less necessary. Storm shields and force fields and stuff like that could be represented by extra wounds or other defensive rules like better regular save against certain damage profiles.

>>
>>98858419
Wolves can either be an aggressive melee army that aims to overwhelm the opponent with waves of tanky, fast melee units that disrupt enemy responses to them (thunder wolves and wulfen usually do this) or a tanky brawler army that puts their shields up and tells the enemy to come get them and punishes them for half-measures or trying to be sneaky (this is what wolf guard do). So if you get the battleforce, you're likely aiming for the second type of playstyle.

I think 4++ is fine when it's something that will take a million saves, like a little psyker or something.
The mistake is having 4++ on fucking vehicles and T11 monsters because you hurt them with weapons that have very low volume so it's giga swingy and can feel terrible for either side when your rolls are slanted.

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty stable list. It actually really does want the warpsmith though, he does wonderful things for the defiler. Ive got a few though I mainly only play CSM and IG.

Hoping for CSM we keep our full lethal or sustained hits without any of the caveats of lethal hits only being against certain units such as lethal hits: infantry like what happened to Lieutenants in the SM codex.

As for IG, probably buff the guns up and turn Bridgehead Strike into a 2dp detachment and give it the treatment other 2dp detachments have where its got more stratgems and more enhancements. I'd also like the +1 to wound back that it originally had before it got changed to a +1 to hit when you drop from reserves or disembark

Recent game was against my work buddy, it was a 3k game at Warhammer world, his custodes vs my CSM, I lost but I got a morale victory by destroying his termis with my own

Anon, phobos marines being M8 and regular deldar infantry being M7 doesn't make deldar slower than marines. Deldar transports move 14", faster than anything marines got. Reavers are 16" move BASE and auto-advance 8", for a 22" guaranteed move, which is WAY more than anything marines can do. Deldar have access to abundant assault, advance/charge and some really nasty out-of-phase movement tricks.
Yes, they're made out of wet paper and die to overwatching bolters, unlike marines, but that wasn't the question.

Reivers/Incursors scout 6", 8" base, D6 advance (or flat 6 with a strat), SHOOT (with strats or doctrine), and with a Phobos Captain can move D6 AFTER shooting, AND still charge. That's a potential 20" +3D6 threat range.
I cannot do that as elves unless I go with Eldritch Raiders, a 2DP detachment that is blanket Advance and Charge but has no other support for the army at all. White Scars are maybe 1-2" slower than the fastest elves but they have way better data sheets.

Lykhis+Warp Spiders can do 26" plus charge. Without needing a target to shoot at or giving up hidden. Every round, no scout move necessary, with zero detachment or stratagem support. 27" in Warhost.
Deldar can have a raider scouting 9", then moving 14"+d6" and still charge, putting it at a healthy 23+3d6" turn one threat range.
>White Scars are maybe 1-2" slower than the fastest elves but they have way better data sheets.
But the discussion wasn't about how good the datasheets are, is it? It's who is the fastest. And yes, UNDOUBTEDLY, loyalist marines of whatever flavor is a stronger army than deldar or cwe, much because they can be ALMOST as fast but much better at actually slugging it out. But that's not what's being discussed.

>cool guys' Chapter of choice?
/yourdudes/ are the ultimate way to be a cool guy
Or if you lack in creativity, whatever you think looks coolest. You can play flamerspam White Scars and you can play bike spam Salamanders, they just have chapter-specific detachments that give some benefits to running them; Forgefather's Seekers is the Salamanders one that heavily wants you to run flamers and Vulkan He'Stan, for example.
>Let's say I paint them as salamanders, does that stop me from using other chapters' characters?
Yes, if you use the "chapter-specific" detachments for them. You can't take Guilliman if you play Forgefather's Seekers, because Forgefather's Seekers only lets you use Salamanders units and generic space marine units.
There are only 2 models that have the Salamanders keyword: Vulkan He'Stan and Adrax Agatone.

That said, there is nothing stopping you from taking Guilliman in your Ultramarines successor chapter of /yourdudes/, either, as long as you use Ultramarine rules that allow for Guilliman to be in your army.

The entire art 'movement' has very little to do with actual videogames. Its just a style built on the ideas of videogames they would have liked to play or watch someone play more likely. There's a bunch of them. Same with dungeon synth.
It was new a few years ago so its filtered through to mainstream art like 40k.

I'm a filthy secondary who wants to get into Marines this edition. Any recommendations on where to get started on a Terminator army? What kinds of support will they want as far as other models go? Beyond some configuration of buffing via solos/attachments, I imagine that some kind of heavy armor popper would be good, some way to harass and mess with opponent scoring since my big boys are slow and thicc.

Secondary question, how is Marine armor? I sort of like how howertanks look.

anon, models and books are the main ways you enjoy an army and their lore what the fuck are you doing if you don’t do either? its like calling yourself a star wars fan, but you’ve never seen the movies, tv shows, or read the books. do you just look at artwork all day and go “hell yeah, those guys are probably really cool, too bad I’ve read fuck all on them”.
not like that’s why people are called paypigs either, no one here calls someone a paypig here for buying models, they’re calling someone a paypig for buying every model possible no matter how inherently dogshit they are/look.

Yes. The Craftworlds predate the fall as merchant and exploration vessels that would often engage in diplomacy and trade with other races. They previously viewed violence with disdain and after the Fall now view it with horror. If every other major faction just vanished from 4he galaxy overnight, the Craftworlds would happily go back to floating through space interacting with younger races.
>>

It gets worse. The sculptors are allowed to decide what units get added when codexes get updated. They just told to make sculpts for that codex and the rules people are stuck working with whatever the fuck the sculptors came up with.

I reckon a huge chunk of the Eldar would want to have a go at settling the Maiden Worlds and starting over again in the event of total peace breaking out, perhaps to the point of landing their Craftworld on a planet and using it as the heart of their new colony.

the footprints are all that really matter. the rules that actually interact with terrain pieces are few and far between. terrain areas are assumed to be infinite height when blocking line of sight through them regardless of what's put inside, and infantry moves through solid objects. any old junk is fine when starting out.

You're not supposed to play a combat patrol against another combat patrol as a gamemode
They're a slightly smaller "start an army" box than battleforces. They live in 3 spaces
>hot dogass meant to empty shelves in warehouses
The Guard one is a good example.
>you'll probably want these units as a good starting point to work from, but you have a long way to go
The SoB and Dark Angels ones are good examples.
>buy 1-2 of these to have a solid "beginner" 2k army (with a few choice additions)
The Tau and Custodes ones are good examples.

Part of your problem is you're playing a game with boxes that aren't meant to be complete or comparable.

The custodes combat patrol is 1170 points.

There is NO universe where these two are balanced against each other (especially considering the guard one contains zero tanks, where the custodes one contains a dreadnought).

Do they even still release new combat patrol rules with the 11e boxes like they did in 10th or have they abandoned them all together?
I am curious to see how the hell they tried to balance the Custodes one and how terribly they failed. Even in 10th edition as I recall you had to just pick a unit not to bring to the game at the start of every game for Custodes and Grey Knights.
>>
>>98860088
They ought to have Custodes, Grey Knights, Deathwatch, and Imperial Knights folded into them so they can be something like a real army and the folded-in factions can be put on the tabletop with a reasonable number of models instead of, e.g., having literally every Purifier that realistically exists in the setting all in one corner of one battlefield dealing with some Skitarii that got uppity or having a dozen or more Custodes present for literally any reason besides somebody breaking into the Imperial Palace
>>
>>98860107

Having the arms controlled by visible joysticks preserves the power loader vibe that they were obviously "inspired by" and the armored legs allow people who don't want to think about what the pilot's legs are doing don't have to. It's peak.

Now that the dust has settled, what does /40kilograms/ think about post-codex Custodes?
>>

Good. Fun to play. Fluffy as hell. Tons of new options. Actual integration of HH models. Actually accomplished the job of making them feel elite from both sides of the table AND reduced the price of an army to play for once.

Space Marines looks like armature hour compared to this one.

If anyone is tired of the never ending decal faggotry and his orbiters every thread just (You) this post with a timestamped pic of your models.

I'll shoot you an invite to the 40kg painters discord. It's where thread regulars chill and chat with each other about the game or w/e when the threads get annoying without worrying about catching a stray ban from the jannies

lmao had my very first game vs. that box. I tabled my opponent hard with the GSC combat patrol, I think only my Magus died. Rockgrinder ate the Agressors, aberrants killed the infiltrators and the Librarian was left alone in the end. GSC combat patrol was too good, the game was totally unbalanced but was a good introduction to the rules for me.

It just works like it's in the datasheet. Acolytes were divided into two separate datasheets with the codex and in the Index they were a single unit.

I'm looking for STLs on the good stuff.

No proxies, no half assed scans. I'm talking about high quality STL files for only the multi part kits which would allow you to build twice the amount of minis.

Specifically, this one from Necron Immortals. Anone have a good place to for them?

How would I paint my 'reens in a cool and messy way, like they're in the middle of battle? Not only will this look better but any sloppiness can be excused as dude battle damage lmao or dude weathering or something
>>
>>98860787
You mean chipping?
You can be deliberate with chipping. Or grab a sponge and lightly dab the corners with the desired colour. Usually a dark brown.
>>
File: 20260827_171057.jpg (920 KB, 2165x2246)
920 KB JPG
>>98860787
A simple battle damage recipe is small chips of any dark brown. Deeper cuts get a large chip of white. The DEEPEST cuts get a chip of dark brown, white, and a little silver in the middle.
Also, if you use terrain stuff, don't forget to dab a little on the legs and anything hanging close to the ground
>>
>>98860794
>>98860795
Not necessarily battle damage, but the actual paint job being battle worn and messy, rather than the usual regal look they have
>>
>>98860798
If you want to "grimdark" it you just slop on a oil paint then grab a makeup sponge and clean the excess.
>>
>>98860798
You mean like an in-field ersatz camo job?

Has to be Blood Angels, at least in terms of going from great to shit. They got a couple passable character sculpts in Dante, Meph and Astorath but that's really it. Sanguinor could be worse but he's small and hasn't been playable in a while. Lemartes got a dogshit pose and has a ballgag. Sanguinary Guard are OG Sigmarine tier. Their DC units got wiped out with only a couple pieces on an overpriced upgrade sprue. Their unique dread got squatted, the other given to everybody. Their sang priest is almost indistinguishable from regular apothecaries. Their unique captain doesn't come with a jumpack and has a dogshit pose for adding one and minimal flair. Their unique chaplain got the Furioso treatment with Armageddon. Their unique predator is almost certainly going to get the Furioso treatment when those get released. They have no real unique unit kit to speak of outside of the Sang Guard which sits just above fucking Coteaz in unpopularity of the sculpt.

So they lost three pretty well loved characters, three unique dreads, their great standard infantry kit, their DC kits and their terminators. The sculpts for Lemartes, the Sanguinary Guard and the Sang Priest are all varying levels of shit. The only redeeming quality is their top character models aren't bad but they're not making up for the rest of it.

For the rest of the list EC got a good refresh but need more fleshing out. DE and GK need refreshes that they'll eventually get which may or may not be good. Their raped status is pending. Agents exists just as a repository for random Imperial units GW feels like making and has never really been a real army. I don't care about daemons as a faction and can't comment. BA got it the worst because there's no real room for redemption, for all the others there's still at least hope. At best GW will throw them an actual Death Company kit. Otherwise everything is only a few years old so it won't get touched for another six to eight at least. They're fucked.
