What the fuck were they thinking when they came up with Celestant-Prime? What was the point of introducing a big-ass flashy model for the most powerful character of the protagonist faction if no follow-up was prepared at all? I'm actually surprised he was not killed offstage during the 3-4e transition period.

Because the dwarf girl special character is just a female mirror to the generic dwarf king mini, which got given special character treatment to justify its existence better instead of having 2 minis for the same profile; and the random fyreslsayer hero is the pity hero they would have gotten this time around.
Meanwhile the magmaqueen of the main fyreslayer subfaction would deserve a fuckhueg model, and this is not the time for that kind of releases.

They're not doing two mesoamerican armies and they're clearly not abandoning that aesthetic for seraphon.

It's a shame, since they're leaning away from the importance of living sacrifices on ziggurats in Seraphon, and it's a very khornate theme.

Realistically though the battle line just needs to be redone with modern aesthetics. They've got the old marauder/kairics "action figure" poses and muscles.

i would have less issues with baels deaths if they actually gave a model to the new fyrequeen who's the central figure for brokering the alliance between khazalites and fyreslayers. its very strange that she's so central to the new battletomes lore, but absent in the model range.

they really should have put the effort in to give fyreslayers a few new units. a new big named character and some kind of medium unit like cavalry or magma elementals or something. or just make that new character with the droth into a squad instead with a packmaster and 3 juvenile droths.

just like what they did for ogres. they squatted a ton of shit, but then they also released a bunch more including several new units for BOTH beastclaw and gutbusters, each having their own big fuckoff new named characters on pieplate bases. thats how you do a full refresh without leaving your player base feeling like half of it is twisting in the wind.

make him grimnir reborn and even if he went on random adventures and ignored the fyreslayers he would still get followed by hordes of them in worship, so he still wouldn't be able to do what his character is meant to be doing

They do say man must carve his own stone.
>>
>>98858316
sounds like the stone thing is specifically to do with power gained from hashut.

but the question i think remains why can the khazalites cast at all if wizardy is somethings dwarfs normally cannot do without the aid of a god? i guess its possible that the gods are enabling the khazalites spellcasting to work and since they arent corrupt chaos gods their support doesnt come at a faustian bargain, but i didnt see a mention of that in the runes. the runewrites lore blurb sounds like they learn arcane magic the same as any other wizard, through study and practice. but the kharadrons cant use magic unless they bottle it in a contraption that uses it for them.

its just a very strange discontinuity of their own lores logic for what seems to be the sake of ease of gameplay design so they dont have to make runes their own thing, and can just use the existing magic system instead. a lore breaking cop out for design lazyness
>>
>>98858316

>>
>>98858347
Runes.
>>
>>98858336
I think it’s as simple as it being a game mechanic thing. It’s magic as any other army would use on the table, but in lore it’s the stuff with runes. WHFB dwarves also did shit with runes that was magical.

I'd consider it a complete game. There are tools for doing more or less all the things you might want to do in a classical roleplaying game. I'd like some more of the basic logistical things they've provided for WFRP (patron compendiums, short modules and compilations of one-shot adventures, location sourcebooks), but most games don't get that level of support in the first place. Between the core book, the bestiary, and maybe one of the "Champions of" books, you could get a lot of mileage. Then there is tons of extra crunch to digest in Artefacts of Power, Steam and Steel, Through Fire and Smoke, etc.

IMO the Soulbound devs might just be holding back until AoS 5e to drop a potential Soulbound 2e. So much soul, Jesus hold me. There was something truly special about those bottom-up armies that inherited WFB model ranges and had to be re-fluffed to fit AoS somehow. BCR, FEC, Bonesplitterz - all three had incredibly fun battletomes in the 1st edition and it's such a shame to see the last ones not making a cut. Yeah hence the mixed with other stuff for kind of a unified tribal aesthetic. Some pseudo-aztec, pseudo-indian, pseudo-native, pseudo-viking mix. New nurgle for examples combines pagan/folk horror tropes with chivalric stuff, so maybe a mix like that would be interesting for khorne too.

Crosspostin', but I'm sure the artist who does these is a poster or a lurker, just want to say you're really feeding us with your regular work and autism for the setting. I would say this on twitter, but grok suspended me and I'm too lazy to make a new account.

Part of it is GW trying to respond to people being like "AOS isn't grimdark enough! The stormcast don't have enough flaws and are able to respawn!" so they wanted to add some more overt nasty stuff to it, because I guess the literal metaphor of the dehumanisation of war wasn't enough. GW listening to feedback for AOS has generally been a bad thing after 2nd edition I think

>The nomadic beastmaster Ormyr has wandered the harsh deserts of Aqshy for decades. He rescued his Kyndledroth Ashtongue from the grubby clutches of a band of hobgrots and their Hashutite overseers. Though his plan had been to trade the beast with the Lofnir of his former lodge, impressed with her willingness to survive, he took Ashtongue as his companion instead.

>Hours spent alone under the burning sun have baked both Ormyr's skin and his mind. It is said that whilst staring into the forge-flame of his magmahold, he saw a vision of Grimnir. He claims that the Ancestor God has sent him to find a sacred flame of the vulkazharr buried in the heart of a Magmadroth called Cinderhorn. Whether this is true or some figment of Ormyr's addled senses is unknown, but he can often be heard conversing with Grimnir as he searches for the creature.

>Ormyr's preferred Grimmdron are the Flameseekers. He can often be found fighting in their company and sharing a tankard of magmalt with them at battle's end. In the wake of the fall, Ormyr often ventures into the ruins of sundered magmaholds, either on his own or as a scout for his kin. Many a Runeson or Thrynn has had cause to celebrate his presence in their fyrd or war throng. Once down in the sweltering darkness, he searches for his fabled droth or, failing that, metes out vengeance against infestations of the vermin who brought the Fyreslayers low.

alright i watched 2+ toughs lore breakdown on the new dwarfs, an interesting bit of lore

apparently the khazalites have been hiding out in shyish, the realm of death this whole time. when the world went to shit, KO took off into the sky, fyreslayers went into the volcanos, helsmitths made their bargain witth hashut, and the khazalids followed their death god ghazul as he opened portals all over the realms in their holds leading to the dwarven afterlife which exists in a pocket in shyish. there, the dwarfs bunkered up and reinforced dwarven heaven with runes of protection and warding, which lasted throughout all of the age of chaos and the age of sigmar until the skavendoom, at which point the skaven began finding a way to tunnel in past the wards.

now the dwarfs realizing their safe haven is no longer safe have begun re-entering the world to retake their old keeps, as they had been using those centuries in ghazuls realm to rebuild their armies and fashion golem tech.

also apparently spending that long in shyish has made them very dour and solemn, even for dwarfs, and they are somewhat unnnerving to talk to

Shyish continues to be the most interesting realm

>There are 0 new pieces of Fyreslayer art in the entire battletome. The only new 'FS art' are some hearthguard in the background of the battletome cover. There are only 8 pages dedicated to FS lore (most of it not really new), the rest is all Khazalite. Sometimes 'Grimmdron' are mentioned in the KH pages as well.

>Vostargi Mont has fallen. A siege from helsmiths plus a surprise attack from eshin at a summit that summoned most Runefathers and Magmaqueens killed most leaders, royalty and priests. Bael-Grimnir of the Vostarg is dead, even though he survived his encounter with Trugg and now had Ur-Gold prosthetic limbs (so we'll never have his model). Every single one of his runesons is also dead now. Bael's daughter, Rhuna-Grimnir, survived (but doesn't get a model) and is now a Magmaqueen of Karak Zharrzon (not its ruler though, only part of a council). Kalmar-Grimnir of the Hermdar is also dead. No mention of Brudja Brightaxe, but likely dead. Only a few hundred FS survived. Khazalites 'saved' them and took them in as refugees. This is all described in 4 paragraphs.

>Vostargi Mont is flooded by lava now during Bael's last stand. Its forges are shattered. It's unlikely to ever be reclaimed.

>Basically all Magmaholds are said to be destroyed (Quote: 'In truth, a handful of Fyreslayer strongholds remain'). Only the Greyfyrd and the Lofnir remain independent, but it's implied they are under constant siege. I don't really know how suddenly all holds in all realms were destroyed, but GW needed to shoehorn us into the KH tome I guess. There are a ton of Grimhold exiles now because so many holds are destroyed. Apparently, only heavily defended magmaholds under volcanoes are vulnerable, because the Khazalites are not really losing any holds.

>Most Fyreslayers now live in Karak Zharrzon as refugees. They don't feel at home, they aim to reclaim their holds (though that is implied to be quite a hopeless venture multiple times).

>The Fyreslayers don't have a special afterlife (Stone Sleep). They go to the same afterlife as all other Duardin. I guess even the Helsmiths go there since it's a single afterlife for all Duardin?

>Barely any mentions of Vulcatrix in the battletome. Only mentioned as worshipped by the Lofnir/Vulkyn, who are seen as crazy cultists by the khazalites.

>Ormyr is an ex-Lofnir FS who raised Ashtongue from an egg, and is looking for one of the Vulkazharr in Cinderhorn, a Magmadroth. He scours the ruins of destroyed Magmaholds. It's implied he could also just be crazy from Aqshy heat.

>Gotrek has no FS keywords, but sort of feels a kinship with FS. He dislikes Zhangrom-Thaz and wants his old axe back.

>Runesmiters now forge FS runes (not Runemasters anymore) and every FS can detect Ur-Gold.

>No mention at all of any of the removed units. Even though Runemasters forged our runes, Grimwraths were our strongest warriors, Doomseekers should be a lot more plentiful now, etc.

>Fyreslayers are now 'Grimmdron' and basically only driven by vengeance. They have, except for the Lofnir and Greyfyrd, 'become part of the Khazalite holds'.

Speaking of Malerion, I really wish that, when GW finally comes around to do something substantial with him and the Ulguan Aelves, they make him be just another cackling villain backstabbing Sigmar and running his faction in a gratuitously evil way. His original reason for being evil in WHFB was resolved in the End Times already, and being Order’s token evil teammate is already Morathi’s thing. I’d really dig Malerion as a shifty and ruthless but ultimately Lawful Neutral guy who aligns with the good guys out of enlightened self-interest, does the behind-the-scenes dirty work the others are too goody-two-shoes to do, and prepares schemes to take them down only as paranoid just-in-case contingencies. >wfb models will get squatted
Depends entirely on the model I'd say, more will get refreshed rather than squatted.
If we look at for example SBGL which still has quite a bit of whfb models I can't imagine the corpse cart or parade floats staying around, but there's no way they ditch the necromancer or foot wight king for example. They'll be refreshed, possibly with a new name like the barrow knights/guard or 'revenant draconith'.
>DoK and Deepkin will get souped
DoK will get souped, but not with deepkin. They'll be souped with umbraneth instead. There's a reason they waited for khazalites to soup fyreslayers.
Idoneth will probably just keep hanging around in limbo for a while. Essentially the tomb kings of AoS. At least their models look good.
>sylvaneth will become kurnothi, dryads etc gone
Why the fuck would they do that? Sylvaneth are one ot the most popular armies, despite an actually relatively modest range. Certainly more popular than wood elves ever were in whfb, so why the fuck would they go back to that aesthetic?
Dryads will probably be refreshed in twistweald style. Though I can maybe see them just getting dropped since they already have both revenants as basic infantry.

I do have it in my MEGA, but I don't know how do it in a safe way. There has to be good reasons that /tg/'s Share Thread is so paranoid about this stuff, and I don't want to find out what these reasons are.

its so stupid and amateurish. corporate writing at its best.
whats the point of this vast setting, when in the end a faction, thats is spread over all the realms, gets wrecked simultaneously in each location?

GIVE a fuck, to be correct. Believe me or not but these are still being used for gaming. I even work on an army right now specifically with playing 1E in mind. Perhaps I will start porting post-1E armies and units one day.

they genuinely may be more popular than kb or tzeench as far as i see it

GW will fix the setting by squatting everything. Everything will be grimderp mudcore like CoS from now on.

yes of all the developments of the game rules and setting wise, the thing i absolutely hate most is how its trying to be a grimdark setting

that new arkanaut animation i think really reflects how we wont ever be able to get out of the grimdankness

give us color and fun stories please we are not 40k babies who need to feel validated by their plastic toys game by it being serious and """"""""""""""""""""intellectual"""""""""""""""""""""

If they even kept fyreslayers around deepkin aren't going anywhere.
They're also not easily souped with another upcoming faction like DoK, they'll be fine. Won't have tons of support, but whatever.

The whole shaerk saga was so funny. Exposed as a janny in the end

man i wish this guy was even remotely playable.

they really REALLY need to fire whoever writes their 5 wound foot hero scrolls
>>
>>98862895
Deepkin will endure specifically because they are so odd and distinctive. No place for them in old world and no place for them inside another super faction without their themes overtaking major parts of that faction
>>
>>98862919
They just have no design concept for foot heroes in AoS whatsoever.

In 1st/2E foot heroes were buff pieces, with unique effects and command abilities. They were useless in a fight, but still essential to the armies success
3E on completely took away their commander role in exchange for slightly buffing their melee damage and maybe sometimes they can fight first just so there's a reason to roll their attack profile at all. The end result is a million heroes that do shitfuckall because their tepid combat stats still aren't worth anything and they don't do anything else.

4E somehow manages to be even worse than 3E at this, because on top of being useless and overcosted, whatever paltry abilities your foot heroes might have are probably also fucked over by "once per turn, army" and "roll a dice, on a 3+" sandbagging.
>>
>>98862745
Exactly what I've been saying, it's just so fucking stupid writing that it removes any reason to even pretend to care about the setting when GW clearly doesn't at all.

Bonus points for dropping a teasing campaign story in 3E that left Bael Grimnirs fate uncertain, (and linked it again, in the article with the new KH chronicle of ruin story) only to clarify in a sub-paragraph somewhere later that:
>Oh yeah, he actually survived that fight and got cool Ur-Gold replacement limbs out of it, no you can't see it. Also he's dead now, and so are every son he's ever had. His daughter we hyped up 8 years ago, survived though! But she's just some broken bitch who doesn't lead the faction or do anything, yep. Just thought you wanted to know.
>>
>>98862961
Having said all that, if GW ever does anything with Fyreslayers down the road, seems pretty likely that it'll be Lofnir/Droth themed, which makes sense.

Why Greyfyrd of all the lodges also survived I have no idea, aside from the potential to randomly drop a single edgy named foot character(Bonus points if it's Warhammer Quest exclusive) 6 years from now and never follow it up with anything.
>>
>>98862952
I doubt you actually played 2e if you're saying foot heroes were viable before Look Out Sir rule improvements. It was a major issue in 2e. Khorne went from bottom quartile to consistently above average when they made look out sir official
>>
>>98862919
>one of the few good looking models in the range isn't even playable
grim(mdron)
>>
>>98862990
No they were frequently not viable, and just having a unique command ability, for example didn't mean that their abilities were actually useful.

My point is more that they were at least relevant to the conversation and had some kind of niche still. Modern foot heroes literally have no reason to exist.
>>
>>98863010

hey!!!! some give a 5+ ward to an infantry unit within range!!!

i genuinely hope the rules writers get put down holy shit
>>
>>98863010
>>98863014

I legitimately do not agree with this complaint. For example, Chaos Sorceror Lord has ALWAYS been one of the few viable foot heroes and the ability has ALWAYS been 5++ for an infantry unit in range.

Before, it was a command ability, except the same command couldn't be used more than once in the phase, so there was ALREADY a Once Per Turn (Army) limitation on it. Classic infantry foot heroes like Lord of Blights ALWAYS had the "Command: pick a non-hero version of this mini to fight consecutively".

Meanwhile, 2e had huge balance issues. It was fun for like two weeks, but the first season in Ghur where you had to field all those monsters was so punishing to armies that couldn't do it, and only made foot heroes less viable.

I know there's an argument that viability =\\= fun or popularity, but in my experience when I played a LOT OF 2E (multiple games a week with different opponents) these 'soulful little foot heroes' were not really present at my local or the larger tournament scene

I understand that it's easier for the bean counters to track what's hot when everything is discretely compartmentalized, and I know microfactions and warscroll battalions had boatloads of detractors, but in the process of addressing these things the baby may have been thrown out with the bathwater.

I will never not cry after Bonesplitterz. They had as much potential as Ogres or FEC. Greenskinz being squatted overnight was the writing on the wall.
