In facts, I am more interested that, if your character is a computer geek, that you get your computer stuff right than my rules. I'll manage.I do not plan to touch subjects that would require a consent form / XCard, but I want the freedom to go there if the story takes us. Evil is defined by its actions, so things like slavery and bigotry can be there to be opposed.Similarly, leave out-of-universe politics out of the game: Your character is twelve anyways. If you want your character to behave in an uncommon way you find moral (e.g.: Vegan, or devout religious), that is 100% allowed, but be aware this might give you extra obstacles and a very occasional opportunity (Carnivorous Pokémon might get malnourished, but some people might find your dedication worthy of praises and some accommodation). My own region.
>>98900063I'm interested but feel I need to ask a few basic questions others may also appreciate seeing the answers to.First, would you be willing to consider older characters? I don't really want to roleplay an actual child, but a teenager or just an adult would be fine. I figure this could come either in the form of a trainer leaving at a later age or someone with other goals that are appropriate for the setting (Rangers, scientists, etc.).Could you tell us a little about how "gamified" it is? That is, are pokemon just used for battling primarily like in the games, or generally companions, wild animals, and integrated into workplaces and so on like in other forms of the media? How dark is it; are injuries serious, or do they largely disappear with a potion spray bottle? Do wild pokemon eat and/or kill each other? I assume yes from the carnivorous bit, but that's more grounded/realistic than what is often depicted. Finally, when you say narrative driven, can you expound upon whether you mean plot or characters?
>>98901777> First, would you be willing to consider older characters? Premise is "friends at the end of a school year", and the Pokémon Adventure as a pilgrimage.> (...) are pokemon just used for battling primarily like in the games (...)?Other medias. Percentage-wise, Pokémon will be mostly treated like work animals and domesticated animals. A few people, sometimes highly-regarded, sometimes regarded as idealistic, treat them as equals. > How dark is it; are injuries serious, or do they largely disappear with a potion spray bottle? Both will exist. There is a damage threshold that:- Before you reach, damage is superficial.- When you first reach / go beyond, the controlling player / GM can get the character to faint safely.- if you get damaged while already at it, or beyond, wounds can become more serious / lead to death. To be clear, fainting itself don't provide protection, but the free Pokémon recall, or the presence of friendlies still fighting, might.> Do wild pokemon eat and/or kill each other?Absolutely. Some will hunt humans too. They're rare, but they're there.> Finally, when you say narrative driven, can you expound upon whether you mean plot or characters? The plot will provide a structure, especially during the introduction. Otherwise, it will be strongly linked to your character. Expect me to roleplay your family members, your non-pokémon-focused friends, etc. It is not a vidya, the town you'll start in will have the Bug Gym, but you can do it last, and teams will be adjusted willingly, with in-game justifications, to your number of badges.
these dead ass threads just make me sad, man
>>98902970Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately I really can't see myself enjoying roleplaying as a twelve year old kid.
>>98903161They aren't dead. It's just that the groups who advertise they have room available get filled quickly. These aren't discussion threads, so they're not meant to be cluttered with shitpost culture war slop.If you are sad because you want to see lots of games advertised, you could run a game and advertise to get players here. But if you saw a lot of ads, you should interpret that as meaning a lot of churn is happening, which ultimately means either most groups are unstable and collapse quickly (which is true for D&D specifically) or that there's a sudden and huge increase in the hobby's population generally (which won't happen).Lurk moar, anon. You might learn something.
>>98903184Seems like a few ads here are relying on in-thread engagement as opposed to discord or email, and not much dialogue is happening. I guess that just means the threads are bad ways of fishing for contacts.

It helps a lot.>>98910758> I don't know what this isCortex uses a dicepool system, where you gather dices of various sizes (from d4 to d12) and make opposed rolls. O altered it a bit so that the standard pool is Pokemon Tier (Charmander would be d6, Charmeleon d8, Charizard d10, Mega-Charizard d12), stat (e.g.: PAtk d8) and Move (e.g. Ember d4). Cortex don't do well ongoing damage, like from burn or poison. I made a rule for it. And so on and so forth. In all honesty, it will lose some granularity, especially at the extremes. Fair warning though, I usually take the spot of party lead in a bid to forge an empire that spans the world. >>98911635> Anything that isn't 5e D&D.Based. Currently, my schedule wouldn't allow it, don't have all my week-ends, but it might change in a couple of months, and if it does I'd be interested. So I am curious: > What is your group dynamic like? Are you closer to a tactical squad, forming hyper-effective synergies? Are you all roleplay fanatics that will develop rivalries and good-spirited shenanigans?> And what kind of setting, genre and tones do you have a preference for, if any?The group can legit be open to anything from gritty no-magic fantasy up to friggin' gundams, without forgetting horror on the way, but is there anything one or more of you would REALLY be sold on?
>>98911711The majority of the group are roleplay fanatics, technically myself included, but if the system has the capacity for tactical action, I create very synergistic plans, capitalizing on each individual's strength. Since I always act as party lead, I take command in battle as well, and ensuring every advantage is brought to bear. In the campaigns which had that needed crunch for good tactics, I outright pulled off what were considered impossible victories for the party. Bringing down a greater force with walking flamethrower mechs by timing a bayonet charge just right five turns in advance, leaving obvious weaknesses in the formation for the enemy to be baited into, and more, I've pulled off, much to the surprise of DMs. However, roleplay is the main strong suite of the rest of the party, and I also absolutely adore roleplaying.Yes. Open to anything. I'd say the only thing we'd outright avoid is stuff like Call of Cthulu, since that kind of stuff is overly concentrated, and limits player freedom for the sake of forcing an atmosphere. However, honestly? It might sound weird, but the best system I've ever played in was a fan-made Starcraft TTRPG. Leovaunt Starcraft is the name it is generally found under. Otherwise, I'm really partial to grounded settings. Magic (or science, to an extent-I love 40k, so this isn't a hard thing) that is just hand-waved away irks me a little, and I prefer settings that nail down rules, creating a more consistent universe to immerse yourself in. For a frame of reference, one setting that a DM WAS going to take us through (before they bailed) was the Iron Kingdoms setting, the one Warmachine/Warhordes uses. At first glance, kitchen sink, but it turns out the magic that humans use has a strict rune system. Replicate the runes, use materials that can channel arcane energy, and have a generator fueling it, and you can recreate the effects of rune "equations". It grounds the setting, and is something I can have a lot of fun with.
>>98911635Moment of self reflection and honest inventory: If you're looking for an "ideal campaign" and getting a lot of GMs bailing on you, is it possible that your group has unrealistic expectations and/or is a huge pain in the ass in general? Did you watch a bunch of scripted D&D voyeur porn and get mercer effected into being a pack of shitters? That isn't a "you suck kill yourselves". That's an opportunity for you to look at yourselves and double check if you might suck a little with the intent to improve. Pre-assembled groups looking for GMs are notorious for being a pain. Just some food for thought, good luck out there.
>>98911886Nope, Critical Role is kind of an example of what to avoid, more than anything. But I get what you're saying. Honestly, that would be easier-it's been an actual mill of bad luck, as opposed to "Hey maybe treat things a little differently".
>>98909595Both. The main non-ERP one for example hasn't gotten any new member in years but has gradually lost existing ones, a community that doesn't get new blood will slowly die to attrition.
>>98911635>Player, though I've got a four-man party,You have enough people already but you're all too lazy for anyone to step up and GM, fuck off.
>>98913003this anon >>98913024 raises an interesting point, if you have 4 people whymst the fuck aren't any of you GMing?
>>98911111>Thought teenager, like "teens", could start at 10 or 11.nigga what the fuck?>ten>eleven>twelve>thirTEEN>fourTEEN...>nineTEEN>twentyit's literally in the word is you retarded?
>>98912963NTA but I'm gonna also add in, I would never message you as a GM. I would always rather find my own players than accept a premade party. If you all can't/won't GM and are looking for someone else it just screams there's huge problems. That's also setting aside the massive differential in how you already have an established relationship with other players and the guy on the other side of the screen is stepping in without that. So when you say:>We've had way, way too many DMs bail on usI'd wager it's because literally zero worthwhile GMs are going to even consider playing with you, and all the ones you got are too new/bad to know/get better. It's a GM's market, not a player's, and you ain't it.That's even setting aside the problems I saw in >>98911744 since that is genuinely more opinion based.
>>98913024>>98913199Cause I GMed. It was for a different group, but nonetheless, it was something I already did. While the other party ended up praising me relentlessly, they also burned me down hard over time, since they wanted to invest less effort yet still wanted the same quality of a campaign. Which, fundamentally, is impossible, given TTRPG campaigns are a group effort. If one side doesn't care about it, it doesn't matter how much effort the other is putting in, it'll peter out eventually (and that's on the better end of things). After that experience, I don't want to GM anymore, at least for a long while.
>>98913270Again, I'd normally agree, but to give some recent examples>DM is aware we don't want generative AI, chooses to hide the fact he uses it, and then springs it on us last minuteNot exactly a party problem there.>DM sets up a session, then turns around and blocks everyone day of session with no wordZero explanation. Nothing. Up until that day, he'd oft mention how he liked the party and our ideas. We were working with his homebrew system as well, so there was extra effort being put in to work with a WIP. Just ghosting everyone without so much as a word says more about the DM than us, to be honest.>DM thoroughly vets us, says we're good, then decides to dump us without any clear reasoningThat's what I get for trying to find a DM on Reddit. One search later, and we discover he's been offering himself to almost every single person posting on the lfg subreddit, yet when he was with us, he constantly complained about how hard of a time he had getting a party. Sounds like our situation, on the other end, except when bailing on us, he gave no reason and had also repeatedly talked about how we had 'solved' every problem he gets with parties. Basically seems like we were set up there, though it is a pretty dumb thing to do.I'd go on, but DMs aren't somehow exempt from being just as shitty. There's a lot of them out there that are just hunting power fantasies, and with how piled up those kinds of DMs have become thanks to the popularization/casualization of the hobby, it has been a mess to find anything decent.>since that is genuinely more opinion basedTTRPGs tend to be preference and opinion based? Not sure what you're hounding as a problem with that.

You realize that it sounds like you're saying that GMing sucked and you don't believe confidently that your friends won't make it suck again, right?Several posts offered you the opportunity for self reflection and review and instead of even giving us a token crumb of accountability you've double downed on dindu nuffin. That's fine but no one with an ounce of experience or sanity is gonna risk the frustration that you yourself described on a premade group of entitled little angels. If none of you have faith in your little polycool then nobody else is gonna
>>98913228No, ESL.> it's literally in the word is you retarded? My bad. I also thought the "i" should be capitalised, and "are" to be the correct tense of that verb.

>TQHearing about that new star wars pod racer game got me thinking about an idea I had for a campaign. The players would be rebel/republic spies posing as a pod racing crew, going from race to race and using their warm welcome and minor celebrity to access imperial/cis secrets and/or assassinate high value targets. I clearly never got far into the idea because I didn't decide if it was set in the OT era, new-republic, or clone wars, but I thought it was cool. I guess I'd either try one of the weird-dice star wars systems that people like or dust off ol' reliable and use trav. Unfortunately the venn diagram of people who like star wars, play ttrpgs, and don't have crippling soulless forms of autism is almost nil.
>>98900063Got enough players to start, but one more would be nice. If you like the Pokémon franchise and would like to explore its potential more freely, can tolerate a slow pace if it means a rich story, wish you had something to do on your lunchbreak or similar structural downtime, write half-decently (or are willing to edit your posts), and would like a somewhat clean story, I'd be more than happy to have you.
>>98916925Question: How prevalent would be pod racing, and how would you have all players involved on an ongoing race? All of my Star Wars RPG experience usually revolves around adventurers travelling around in space transports. With very minor houserules and player colab, you get clean leadership, starship combat's got everyone involved either piloting, shooting or holding the ship together. Can't do that on a pod. Not in real time.I could see it where people act at the same time, but the engineer's role is retroactive. Like the pod-racer pushes his engines past safe-limits, you cut the action to something the engineer did, make him make his check, and its effect take place back in real-time...But I am legit curious how you would handle it.
>>98917124Work-shopping this live since I hadn't given it enough thought to have a concrete answer decided: I have a friend who is super in F1, and it seems like there is someone monitoring the race conditions/map ahead of the pilot and giving them advice, someone who is monitoring the car itself and using diagnostic data to inform strategy, and a pit crew that is making repairs and adjustments at pit stops. I think you could make that something the entire party could collaborate on (albeit this is heavily reliant on the party not being too big). However, some other thoughts (if I can't make that fun for everyone)The driver is pseudo-anonymous (think The Stig from top gear) so different players can take turns racing-- doesn't fix the problems but could be useful cute. The players are racers on a team, everybody drives (except maybe 1-2 if they want to be support) and the goal is to eliminate other pilots so that one of them wins. The driver is an NPC and the races themselves are less about him personally and more about the strategy-- the players are all contributing to a 'team' roll that everyone has to pull together to accomplish without one PC being the star. Even more fun if the NPC pilot is silly/stupid and not aware of the party's mission whatsoever. The races are distractions the PCs use to carry out their infiltration or assassination missions-- this might downplay the racing too much but it means that the players racing are more interested in the tableau of the race than the outcome. They might stage disasters, malfunctions, or even crash to draw attention away from the mission.Personally I think NPC driver is my favorite but I'd have to consider the players. They might hate not getting to be the one
>>98917306Making the pilot an NPC means that the players can go the distraction route (let the race autoresolve) or the heavy strategy route (guiding/supporting the pilot in all the ways mentioned) depending on the spy mission and the race's stakes. It also gives the players the option to go somewhere in between, perhaps just sending a slicer and a shooter on the mission and letting the rest keep the race entertaining/distracting. I think customizing the pod and the droid pit crew (both for racing and for smuggling things/spy stuff) would be important, and if the pilot is an NPC then the group should have some means of developing/customizing him too.
>>98917306>>98918262Personally, I wouldn't introduce a concept that is inherently fun, engaging and challenging just to have an NPC do it.What system do you plan to use?
>>98919241It was less about having an NPC do it and more about making it a team thing but I see your perspective. I was shying away from players being mad that the race was all about Mike or whatever. Probably not the best fix, requires more thought.System as I said above, I'd check with the FFG weirdo dice systems (some of them are low power/no force I believe) and if they didn't make pingle tingle then I'd use my trav conversion.
