Why are perks ignored in the class vs point buy debate? It has some features of both. Like a sort of moddable list of class skills.
I know that /tg/ is heavily in favor of classes but it does get tiring just playing a barbarian over and over again and not have him be like any different outside of vaguely weaker or stronger if dice rolling is involved.

It's more common on /tg/ to call such "feats" after the d20 system term for the notion, and it gets ignored for the same sidesbraining behind ignoring all the other intermediate system elements.

DnD has feats and they are de facto core rules, because the power gap between people who use feats and people who only use ASIs is really noticeable
the only time people dont use feats is for intro adventures with people who only just started playing, but once one person uses feats everyone else has to

genesys/SWRPG also uses feats exclusively for levelling up
with the only thing available to spend XP on are perks which you advance through

Because much like New Vegas, you will find the optimal perks and take them every time.

Badly trained robot, or just complete nogames?
Anyway its a false dichotomy, not all features are class features in a class based system

How do you think a point buy system works?
Most classless systems I can think of are basically just a pile of perks of varying costs.
>>

Because "perks" are not a feature of either and are not related to either. They may appear or not appear in games in either category. It's orthogonal. It's not relevant to the discussion. It's like asking why hit points are ignored, or rules for obscurement. They have nothing to do with it.

Not if there are no optimal perks.

If you have a look at the older Fallout and OGL threads, they balanced it out quite well. The problem your strawmaning though relies on the false assumption that modern posters weren't around here 19 years ago, or aren't capable of looking up the pre 2010 posts on the old archive to see how full of shit your claims are.
You fucking retard.

Hi, never game.
Bye, never game

Why not both? A robot trained by never-game. Like almost all bots posting on /tg/
