So why Theurges? They seem the most specialized in that all their shit is Spirit Realm focused mainly.

for a lot of people spirit stuff and the umbra is the selling point behind both werewolf and mage + it's the wizard auspice and wodg loves it's occultists slash spellcasters
>>
>>98863689
The spirit world is fun, and being able to navigate it is practical. The character I'll be playing in my group's upcoming Werewolf game is a former marine who's specialized in stepping sideways, so I definitely want to utilize this ability in combat to give the ST a headache as he has to pay attention to both realspace and the neighboring penumbra. Also a theurge has low rage, which allows your character to exist in society with anyone who isn't a spineless vermin.
>>
>>98863689
Theurges are wizards and spirits and the spirit world can affect the mortal world so they pretty much in a round about way can affect everything. not helped by the fact that the books even point out that they can steal gifts from other gift lists by messing or bribing spirits so they draw both powergamers and people interested in the cosmos

While I haven't played Woof, I tried creating a couple characters. Expected the Ahroun rip n tear experience to have more interesting gifts than flat and simple mechanical bonuses like resistances or intimidates or damage type buffs at least until highest ranks. Rabagash I expected more teleports, dodges, and illusions but it's more of a thieves' kit. Theurges get access by default to all sorts of interesting Rituals even if they're more demanding to play

Which Clans, Tribes, and Traditions/Conventions would you say are the most Timmy, Johnny, and Spike?

For those unfamiliar with MTG/TCG design, that is type of players that prefer respectively Big Dumb Things, Creative and Interesting Combos, or Metafagging with Optimal Options.
>>
Man, I feel stretched pretty thin atm.

I was the Storyteller for my friend group’s game, and I’m also writing one one-shot story and another longer one.

On top of that, I’m working as a substitute teacher at a high school for 13–18-year-olds, teaching them math, chemistry, physics, and even lab work.

Fuuucck.
>>
>>98863689
Ahroun is just extra rip-and-tear. All it does is make a werewolf better at what a werewolf is already good at doing, killing shit. For some people this is a good thing as Werewolf is the killing-shit game and it's fun to double-down on the combat focus, but for others it's redundant.
Ragabash occupies a weird space where its social role as the omega of the pack is almost given more attention than the stealthy aspect of it and even then, who wants to play a stealthy guy in the rip-and-tear killing-shit game that is Werewolf?
Philodox has strange flavour as a socially-focused role, it's not about charismatic leadership or domination of lesser wills, it's about interpreting a complicated legal system, ensuring that the pack stays true to it and punishing others for breaking the rules. It's awkward, especially for newer players.
Galliard is in the same situation, where it's a socially-focused role with a narrow niche that only really cares about sharing stories of the past and of other Garou. It's a bit of a cuck role in that it cares more about what other werewolves have accomplished than anything that the Galliard themself has done and can do.
The Theurge is the spirit expert in a game where the enemy is ultimately spiritual rather than physical, not only are they mechanically best suited for fighting the most important enemy of the Garou, but they also have the most importance when it comes to lore as they're the only ones with the understanding of the Umbra required to win any meaningful victories.

It's no surprise that the wizard auspice and the fighter auspice are on top, when the other three are defined by their weird social roles. Not even CofD fixes this, as the Elodoth and Cahalith auspices maintain the weirdness of the Philodox and Galliard even if the Ragabash is fixed by being made the stealth auspice first and foremost.
>>
>>98864419
The sad reality is that this can only be solved by stripping away the weird flavour and boiling the auspices down to very basic roles. If the Ahroun is the fighter and the Theurge is the wizard, the Ragabash should be the rogue with no omega-of-the-pack bullshit, the Philodox should be the party face with no judge-of-the-litany bullshit, and the Galliard should be the cleric and support role with no storyteller-and-lorekeeper bullshit.

Hermetics
>>
>>98864405
Prioritize. Focus on one story at a time on the writing front (whichever you feel more inspired by) and bang it out, at least in rough draft form, before you start another.

As for work, unironically work less hard and save that energy for your creative outlets. You're a substitute, one day of glorified study hall or a vaguely related to their studies T.V. isn't going to ruin those kids (probably mediocre already, no offense) education.

Lastly, if you need to take a hiatus of a few weeks or even a month from being ST, take it. It's helped me when I'm feeling the burn-out before.
>>
>>98864419

I mean, Ragabash are kinda saved by also being the Ranger of the group in addition to the Rogue.

Galliard is the main weird one in being at face the Werewolf Bard, but with all the party face stuff better handled by the Philodox who is more direct about it. The Galliard is mainly there just as support.

How does one go about courting a spirit anyway?
>>98863689
When you examine how popular Tremere and Tzimisce are, and how Theurges generally get the most space to be nebulously unhinged and amoral with how they barter and use spirits or magic, it kind of makes sense. In essence they're the least jocky-Garou as well

Tzimisce wins for Vampire because of its big flashy focal Discipline, Vicissitude.
The Get of Fenris wins for Werewolf because it goes all-in on the killing-shit side of the game.
The Void Engineers win for Mage because they have the biggest and most obvious accomplishments, if you believe their propaganda.
>Johnny
Ventrue wins for Vampire because of the clan's absolute mastery of social Disciplines, which makes it unparalleled at NPCs into assets in a variety of different ways.
Glass Walkers win for Werewolf because it does all of the things that other tribes do but in the one area that almost other tribes are incapable of interacting with, which is tech shit, which they can use to accomplish all sorts of crazy stuff other tribes are incapable of.
Virtual Adepts win for Mage because of their "scientific" approach to magic which allows them to incorporate other paradigms into their own, so they can perform all sorts of magic without being limited by what they believe in.
>Spike
Tremere win for Vampire because of full access to all of Thaumaturgy which has more subcategories than there are Disciplines in the game and because their clan weakness can effectively be ignored if the ST doesn't make the regnant an asshole.
Uktena win for Werewolf because they get the excuse of being able to mess with shadowy shit that aligns with the Wyrm while still claiming to be good guys, they an still get in trouble with NPCs but it's the only real justification for playing a Garou who gets to mess with the Wyrmish third of the Triat.
Syndicate win for Mage because money is seen as a cheat code that can accomplish almost everything that any Sphere can do at any amount of dots and if magic is really necessary, they can augment it with their vast amounts of money and then use magic to recoup any financial losses.
>>

I'll have you know the local /wodg/ pack is six werewolves.

-Bone Gnawer
-Get of Fenris
-Glass Walker
-Red Talon
-Silver Fang
-Stargazer

And statistically, with 2 of those being Theurges.

I think either the Tzimmis or Tremeres might be in for a bad time.

Anyone got stats for a spider spirit? I’m supposed to set up a big boss fight this Saturday for my W20 group. They’re entering the Umbra to defeat a trapped Weaver spirit (and its thousands of small to very large spider younglings) that put a whole caern to sleep/mind control.

So far every kinfolk safe one little girl died, because their zombiefied minds couldn’t enter the umbra and survive the harsh winter. The garou are starving and trapped in webs inside the Spider’s lair.

And the 40ish people that voted on the werewolf exclusive poll are the local sept: the legion of the four leaf clover, holding the eponymous caern.

Originally a Fianna caern, though the Get hold the strongest current population, they are routinely outvoted by the politically dominant City-Wolf coalition. As a result, the proud Get have to cozy up with the somehow impressive red talon presence to get their edicts through at the chaotic moots.

The Legion routinely clashes with the local hermetics, tziggers and tremere who keep fucking up the local everything with their sorcery much to the chagrin of well, .. everybody.

Forsaken went well last night. A shorter session than normal, but we packed in some revelations and development so all's good.

The PCs spoke with their Totem, which had been wounded by the blighting of the Hisil in the last session. They asked it about the Host they're hunting, and it told them to go ask someone else while it slept off its damage. The PCs sought out Crafty Vermin, a carrion spirit that they've dealt with previously. In exchange for Essence, it inferred that the Hosts were kin to the Uratha, pretenders that sought to impose their law on the Hisil. The Pure are pretty cool about that, and it's why Spirits are happier to help them than they are the Forsaken.

The PCs then went to their Vampire contact, a Ventrue named Dominic Hauler. The man's a bit of an idiot, but the PCs don't know that. They sought out his house, and split up. Dolly, our Cahalith, wandered off and got a dramatic failure, getting found by his Ghouls. Baz and Stray, Rahu and Irraka respectively, elected to kick in the back door of the Vampire's haven. This started a big row, in which Dominic managed to pass his Frenzy check and barely managed to keep his shit together. Dolly was brought back by his Ghouls, and the two parties began to barter. Baz loudly shouted that he "had to break the door down", and Dolly attempted to smooth things other.
>>
>>98865244
>Angels to some
to fucking who?
>>
>>98865317
They told Dominic about the Host, and asked if he had any contacts in smuggling hounds. It is 1980 after all. Framing it as an olive branch, he told the PCs about some dog-fights that he is involved with. The PCs went along with him to one that was conveniently happening that night.

At a farm outside Southminster, a dozen or so men and women gathered to bet on dogs of all sizes and breeds, trapped in rickety metal cages. Fear spirits tormented the hounds, and in the Hisil, the Hosts waited outside, baying for blood. The PCs saw one cage in the corner, a small Irish terrier, bucking and thrashing. It had a seizure before the PCs very eyes, and they watched as its body broke and cracked, twisting and swelling into the shape of a wolf. As moonlight crept through the window, the new wolf vanished with a pop, slipping into the Hisil to join its new kin.

We left the session there as it was getting late. But next week the PCs want to look into the Pure in town, believing them to be responsible for the blighting of the Hisil. They're barking up the wrong tree unfortunately, but they don't know that just yet.

Nobody knows what wizards and vampires and wizard vampires have against each other. The Get postulate that there can only be so many effeminate men in faggy bathrobes in a single place.

A pack of the mightiest, wisest and most forward-thinking of theurges and ragabashes has been assembled to get to the bottom of this great mystery, and they have already brought forth impressive results that will surely shape the lore of Garou to come.

IMPRESSIVE REAL AND NOT FAKE (BUT POSSIBLY GAY) DISCOVERIES:
Human Wizards can NOT cast spells without their stupid little wands and bathrobes. They are CAPABLE of casting cool spells such as AWESOME FIREBALLS but IF they do magic, then it is gay and stupid magic that does not blow shit up. Their spiritual reflection in the Penumbra also SPARKLES. These combined factoids have led to the theory that wizards are powered by homosexuality, which leads credence to glasswalker claims that humans become wizards randomly upon reaching 30 years of age without any sex.

VAMPIRE WIZARDS are presumably just as autistic but our mighty Get Ragabashes have yet failed to bring back any actionable information. This is because they slaughter all Vampire Wizards on sight like the disgusting wyrmbeasts they are and forget to ask them any questions in the process. The methodology is being reworked as we speak. We might even have to ask the Starg*zer how to make the Get less ragetarded but all he says is OMMMMMMM or some shit, I don't speak chinese or whatever.

Probably the reason I loved watching the OG Hellraiser was how there was a dreadful sense of there's more than what you can see.
Frank getting resurrected by blood magic was excellent but the fact he knew and demanded more added to the fact. He seemed like he really knew about the things beyond the veil and that made him more horrifying.
Of course, he still seemingly jumped at the box because someone told him about the """pleasure""" part of it and paid for doing so. But his character was god damn scary as he knew exactly what he was doing.
And the original manifesting of the Cenobites without all the Hell/Leviathan shit (great in its own sense but not here) was terrifying because you didn't know what they were really doing or where, all you saw was the torture and some black stone corridor with the Engineer in it. You didn't see the full picture which is fantastic fiction in my book.

>>98865827
That’s my garou!

>>98865904
I remember that I had it high. So I’ll leave it up to Fate (which Shark canonically has at 5). So I’ll roll 1d2+3.

Also Shark is inhabited by the spirit of White Howler themselves. And anytime we retrieve a piece of Anubis, Shark’s sire and the one who usurped White Howler’s body, we also strengthen White Howler. So in a way, Shark is “saving” the original White Howler tribe! Though once Anubis and WH are fully restored chances are WH is getting dunked forever, and their soul will be trapped forever in Anubis’ sceptre.

Auspices should be inspired by D&D classes, instead of being weird social roles that require research in order for new players to make sense of them. How is a new player supposed to make sense of playing a Philodox or a Galliard?
Higher degrees of nuance can come from the tribes, but auspices should be basic and rudimentary.
>>
>>98866251
I gained rage from this post
>>
>>98866251
The purpose of a Philodox in a pack is to make sure that the pack adheres to the Litany, to justify its deviations from the Litany to other Garou, and to use potential violations of the Litany as an attack vector in social conflicts with other Garou. Galliard is roughly just as bad, since its role is to inspire and guide the rest of the pack with stories of other Garou, and to bolster the pack's collective renown with stories in social situations with other Garou, and to use historical precedent as justification for the pack's actions and an attack vector against other Garou. Both roles are borderline unplayable for new players still getting to grips with the setting and Ragabash is almost as bad with the whole omega trickster vibe and having to balance being the bottom-of-the-rung bitch and knowing when to use their jester's privilege. When over half of the auspices are hostile to new players or people who are less roleplay-focused, you know that auspices have a problem.

They're very sensical though and they really can just be boiled down to one word each, sure they're a bit specific but it's no weird than an RPG having a cook class instead of Philodox (laywer) or Theurge (Priest/Wizard)
>>
>>98866336
Ginfolk was a kinfolk in the RP thread that had high SF pure breed and ended up in a chase by the various Garou (and other) in the thread, mostly for the purposes of stopping him from ending up harmed / using him as Pure Breed material / whatever fucked up shit BSD with two dicks do, except as a fomori you'd probably be too far gone and you'd end up in an honor killing situation. Frankly, any pure breed corrupted character would probably be shunned orally so as to avoid the clan losing status I'd assume, and they would definitely send assassins after you. Though the Shadow Lords would help just to dab on the Silver Fangs one last time before also honor killing you.

Lot of honor killings in WtA-land.

aesin in general would make ready made non wyrmish antagonists for the garou
because they confuse the garou as a whole with the get fenris and there are 3 things

first is the whole garou into mount thing mentioned which makes the get hate them

second is that the aesin believe themselves to be the generation after the aesir so they all believe that they come form odin so they believe the get of fenrir to be agents of ragnarök aka the apocalypse

and third is that despite all this they manage to have a truce with the get which they broke during the shattering and the aesin been pissed at that but unable to do anything about it for half a millenia because they been stuck in the dreaming

they are also really classis assholes who see you as below commoner fae and already consider the idea of commoner raised to noble status to be nonsense which could be nice thematically if you have a garou group who thinks about humans and kinfolk the same way

Oh man, that brings me back. Over a year back, when Shark was only a Schreck.net character. I remember trying to mix both Shark from the rp thread and from the chronicle as one, and doing reports on the rp thread as if Shark went back in time. I dropped doing that because it was too hard and the game went at a pacing slower than I expected (also I thought that the Nazi stuff happens way earlier). Nowadays I can of consider both Sharks as two different guys. Like a retcon from DC comics.

Shark is probably already on the Red List (or about to if not publicly known) for multiple reasons…

today i learned that fallen can be sorcerers
it talks about summoning and binding in the corebook
>SuMMoning and Binding
>Armed with the correct summoning rituals, a sorcerer — whether mortal or demon — can summon a demon into his presence. A second ritual can then bind the demon to the summoner’s will, forcing her to become his servant.

>A mortal summoner can breach the barriers around Hell and summon a demon from the Abyss — an impossible feat for even the most skilled and strong-willed demon. No one knows exactly why demons are blocked from pulling their brethren from Hell, but the popular theory is that God placed wards within the fabric of Hell to prevent just such an occurrence. Perhaps the
Creator knew there was a risk of demons escaping the Abyss at some point, and He ensured that such escapees could not simply pry open the gates of Hell and rescue their fellows. Therefore, only a human occultist can summon demons from Hell — assuming she has access to the right rituals. Of course, there is nothing to prevent a demon from teaching a suitable thrall to enact the summoning rituals — or from summoning and binding demons already loose on Earth.

but there is a trap if you summon demons like this
>Once the demon is summoned, the summoner can interact with her, assuming he is not panicked and overwhelmed by witnessing the demon’s apocalyptic form (see Revelation, p. 253).
willpower vs perma faith if you fail that roll you are reduced to a gibbering mess if you botch it you faint dead with a angry demon in the same room and even if you manage the roll you are awed but can still think somewhat rational

anyway i think real juicy thing is that it means you can combine lore of the forge and the path of enchantment in a single character
i was using thralls for that before

around 8 is the ideal, but we are told that most chantries are below that and 50 is the absolute max that they probably never reached outside of coeris which had over 200 at one point when the tzimisce burned down all other chantries in the region

one is the regent + 7 apprentices the other is the regent with 7 apprentices in each rank of apprenticeship

this does not include Acolyte (gargoyles and ghouls) and Magister(tremere who dipped out of politics to become advisors or teachers) at all however

but then kekw vtm numbers also say that a city with a million people in it has 15 vampires total so however many you need for your story is the right answer
>>
>>98871744
WoD numbers are stupid and I've personally always ignored them.
>>
>>98871744
Thanks, I‘m trying to gauge a plausible size of a chantry (and the number of vampires in general) for a city of 5000 (Riga) for a V20DA game.
It’s confusing how there’s both supposed to be an overpopulation of leeches but the official numbers say two to three dozens for a city of 10000, iirc. I’m considering 1 vamp for every 100 to 200 people, but that seems like far too many, though the strong clans of a city are supposed to have several elders with numerous younger vampires beneath them.

Anyway, for the chantry I’m thinking 1 regent, 2-3 apprentices, 1-2 visitors/other functions, plus 1-2 gargs and some ghouls. Also a sorcerer and his apprentice at a castle of the swordbrothers further out.

>>98871647

dark ages are also around 5-6 in the area. we see jearvis travel across a path from coeris to this area and he find 7 chantries that all aren't fully staffed (8) because of the omen war but are staffed well enough that he can convince each of the regents to give him a apprentice for his quest of wiping out the telvanic tremere

the last one where he managed to talk the regent out of his only female apprentice had i think 4 tremere in it

Hey everyone, I wanna ask: how different are every splat from each other, and how specifically the Storyteller System differs.

I tried to join a mage game on the official discord… and let’s say the ST was “irritated” that I applied without fitting his qualifications.

He wanted medium to veteran players. I thought he meant in WoD systems in general, or even OWoD with me having almost two years playing VTM, Hunter and WTA.

He meant medium to veteran MAGE players.

Yeah that’s what I figured. Doesn’t take a bachelor degree to figure out the different kinks between splats. Like Rage/Gnosis for werewolves vs Blood Pool for vampires.

>Dont think about it too much if he treated you like that it means he is a faggot anyway and the game he leads wouldnt be fun.

Yeah, I explained the confusion (and that most people posting games do the way I described). Said that I was sorry and wished him well in his game… while he was rude about it (or has a really low threshold about being surprised).

You can communicate with the dude only if he accepts you as a friend. Didn’t have the time to finish explaining and wishing again him and his players to have fun before he unfriends me and cut off communications.

I was so taken aback I was wondering if I was somehow the asshole or if I made a wrong assumption.

I've been asked to do a one-shot of something, and I was toying the idea of something oWoD, but I already did a Vamp one before.

Its a bunch of normies so I was thinking of having them be a bunch of character who are werewolves but for whatever reason aren't aware. But I'm not really sure how this happens - you might have amnesia of the First Change, but its pretty obvious after that. I was thinking they were character who were kept a few months or even years in some sort of institute with drugs to suppress their werewolf nature (think in mood and tone Ginger Snaps 2), but I'm a little stuck on what such an institute would be. I'd presume that Pentex or the Black Spiral Dancers would be most interested in nabbing Lost Cubs, but then they'd just... toss them into a Hive to become BSDs pronto right? I like the idea of character who aren't just fresh teenagers, but have been in a place for awhile and have been told they're just violently dangerous schizos - since the players won't know anything they'll get paranoid of each other. Is there anyone else interested in capturing some werewolf for secret study?

Also, as I'm more knowledgable about Masquerade, any tips on what to include in a fun Werewolf game is appreciated, if it goes well, might expand beyond one shot.
>>
>>98875034

>>
>>98875034
Well, there's not just the Wyrm but also the Weaver. Think Technocracy from Mage as a good antagonist that would run a conspiracy-style mental health institute in which you are fed anti werewolf drugs. If you don't know about Mage, just think Men In Black, literally the Illuminati New World Government who is the Big Bad Man keeping The People down for Inscrutable Purposes. If you actually care about how deep the rabbit hole goes you can start to introduce actual Technocracy lore in tidbits as inspiration - your "Technocracy" doesn't necessarily have to actually be the Mage one, just like it. For Garou it'd just seem like Pentex but Weaver. This also exists already in WTA in the form of Shinzui Industries but they are lame and way harder to grok and far more werewolf specific compared to just saying The True World Government is doing this because reasons and you invent those reasons if players actually care to investigate.
>>
>>98875078

I'll take that into account as well, but I do want to keep things pretty simple. I'm a little nervous actually since I haven't been Storyteller or GMed at all in a while. What do you guys think are the most essential fun parts of a werewolf game besides the combat? What's some interesting challenges to overcome?

If you don't know about Werewolf .. it's kind of a weird game to drop on people out of nowhere. Muh Planet Earth, Animism, When Will You Rage, Futility, Think Before you Rage, Super Werewolf racism (against all manners of things) messing everything up, The Flaws of the Garou Nation, Bettering the Garou Nation or at least the local septs, Wyrm&Weaver&Wyld and Gaia, The Secret Lore of the Nation, Cross Splat mysteries and misunderstandings.
These are some themes I'd expect.

As for fun things it depends on what you like. Tearing shit the fuck up, like Fomori. Things that you really shouldn't tear the fuck up like an independent private investigator sent by whoknows who. Finding out into which of the two a given thing falls with clever investigation. Dealing with Werewolf social shit at a moot, though that's hard for new players. Dealing with spirits that want weird as fuck chiminage. Dealing with the root cause of a wyrm problem instead of the symptom, so you have to actually clean up a supernaturally polluted river or something stupid like that. Also just plenty of weird unexplainable shit, nobody knows what the fuck is going on in the world of darkness. It's a conspiracy and mystery setting so sometimes remind people of that.

>Actually, a good point is if I should drop in any Umbra shit to start of if that's too much.
Probably as confusion and foreshadowing. Suddenly you are aware of these spirits, existing. You are aware that a specific sort of spirit or thing is evil, somehow. Corrupted. You think these spirits, they're trying to talk to you..? But you don't understand. It's all a mystery. You need somebody to explain it to you, or a lot of experimentation. Leads naturally into being adopted by some sept or whatever.

As someone who is new to the older side of WoD how do spirits work in WtA? What exactly are they? Are they always around or just in the Umbra?
>>
>>98875193
Crashcourse on WTA lore incoming.
Spirits are the metaphysical reflection of things, thoughts, concepts, emotions and so on. It is quite close to the real concept of animism with some setting specific things, so google animism for a start. Should be easy to grasp.

WTA specific things: There is the triat of WYLD, WEAVER, WYRM:
Wyld = Nature, Dynamism, Creation,..
Weaver = Civilization, Stasis, Order,..
Wyrm = Death, Entropy, Decay,..
Outside of the Triat is GAIA, the Mother/Creator of All - and the concept of good harmonious balance in a way.

In WTA the metaphysical balance has been destroyed by the Weaver'ss power trapping the Wyrm, leading to the cities of man overpowering the wild and beautiful nature of planet Earth. The Wyrm rages, trapped as it is, corrupting and destroying everything in its mad rage.

Spirits primarily exist in the UMBRA, an infinite shadow spirit realm sub-ordered into many more specific ones that both reflects reality and does not, becoming more alien both as you travel "outwards" and "up or downwards" if such a thing could exist in the Umbra. Imagine an Onionshell with true reality in the middle and directly outwards of it is the Penumbra, The Near Umbra. Between Penumbra and Reality is THE GAUNTLET - the Weaver's Wall that keeps spirits in the Umbra. In mystical places like CAERNS the Gauntlet is often thin - spirits cross over easily the gauntlet by STEPPING SIDEWAYS.

Spirits have complex ranks, courts and so on. The mightiest of spirits are known as Celestines, below them Incarna, etc. etc. They interact in strange and alien ways. They may demand strange tithes, services, behavioral codes from you if you entreat them for GIFTS. This system of spirit negotiation is CHIMINAGE.
Such things are usually inline with a spirits nature, and strengthen it in turn.

Some specific Spirits always important(talked about in WTA: Luna, The Tribal totems, your caern totem and pack totem.

It's all a backdoor to get the gang to play Nechronica. Much like in Nechronica, you're borderline invincible as a woof. Won't you enjoy the ST describing how the local security forces fill you with enough HE rounds to blow chunks of blood and bone off, ripping you apart at the shoulder, only for you to use your other hand to grip their head and scrape it along a wall, leaving only a bloody streak and a scream in your wake... but also you're a cute girl and you'll have an amazing tea party after this?
>>
Can normal humans get gifts from spirits? At the very least I'm sure the spirit of John Browning would be more willing to talk with a hunter than to a werewolf.
>>
>>98875250

So what do woofs actually do with spirits? Or what do spirits need woofs to do?
>>
>>98875515
Kinfolk, even those without Gnosis, can learn Gifts- it's just hard and without gnosis and rage your selection becomes rather limited.
I think normal humans aren't supposed to be able to do the same, but it would make sense to let, say, a shaman learn a Gift.
>>
>>98875522
>What do Spirits need that woofs do?
All spirits fundamentally want to thrive. They thrive by having their own identity, their own concept fed.
A fire spirit feeds by having things to burn, by being in a fire-appropriate environment, by having the concept of fire be in the minds of humans and Garou alike. By being fed pure spirit energy via magic..

So a simple spirit like a minor fire spirit may happily burn things for you, but will require compensation if you ask it to actually put out a fire. An animal spirit may want you to defend its terrestial kin. A spirit of murder wants murder in its name. A god wants to be worshipped, have its temples cleaned and so on. This is collectively known as chiminage.

>What do Garou do with Spirits?
Think of it as a cross between symbiotic relationship and religion. They make sure good spirits aka the ones they like are present, fed, worshipped and happy. They do this in the name of Gaia, and generally most benign natural spirits are in "gaian" ballpark, so to speak. But a few destructive and overly human-hostile ones might also find worship and legitimacy among Garou. The spirits also actively participate in Garou Life - A pack of Garou has a Pack Totem, like a Spirit overseer. A tribe of Garou has a Tribal Totem, a super fucking powerful spirit which doles out blessings and shit it wants their Garou to do. The Spirit of the Red Talons for example is called Griffin: He is among many things the Embodiment of all the animals including magical ones which ever went extinct. He protects the wild places of the world, hates humans, hates extinction of animal species, and so on.
Concretely, spirits give out Gifts which are basically concrete Supernatural Powers associated with those spirits. So a fire spirit might give you the ability to do something fire-related. They also can physically show up and help or hinder you. They can also give out more generic curses and blessings. They also power Rites aka Werewolf Magic..

I predicted that some time between the 17th and the 24th, the V6 team would release their second playtest, giving STs just enough time to plan a one-shot around Halloween.
I guess I'm dumb.

Clearly it will release ON halloween, such advanced considerations are not within the grasp of the V6 team.

Yesterday, our group had a training session for Werewolf combat, since we're all new to the system. This turned out to be a pretty valuable use of our time. Some things we've learned:
>wrestling moves are actually useful
>crinos aren't invincible
>crinos can deal a fuckton of damage
>splitting dice is fun and really powerful against targets that aren't actively defending themselves
>every single point of soak matters
>silver is scary
>silver tolerance is OP
We started with homid fists, then we started shifting, and by the end we were using klaives. Sadly we haven't had an oppurtunity to use guns, and neither of the ahrouns has tried seeing what happens when you spend three rage to get three bonus actions.
We've also gone through our galliard's first change, since he was the only player left without a backstory. I'm afraid he might be one of *those* types of player, seeing as he didn't get into roleplaying well and struggled with making rolls, but I'm still hoping that we can maybe iron it out.
We've also learned that large blood and/or piss pools are viable for stepping sideways.
If everything goes well, we might finally play session 1 of the chronicle on Halloween.

Gifts are unique to Fera and Kinfolk in the same way that Discipines are unique to vampires and ghouls. They're not just abilities bestowed by spirits to any random fucker, Fera and certain Kinfolk are able to be given Gifts due to their unique attunement to Gaia (or other powerful spirits in the case of some Fera) while any normal human shaman who seeks the favour of the spirits can just represent it with standard sorcery.

gifts are part of a great pack between fera and the spirit world you need a incarna level spirit to add you to it to be able to use gift but then you also get the spirit's renown system like a fera to get rank to get higher ranking spirits

we seen this happen with the yeren. Relshab a Incarna of the urge wyrm added them to the pact that the black spiral dancers have

>in contrast to other Mockeries, the Yeren are a provisional part of the Pact between wyrmish spirits and the Black Spiral Dancers. They enjoy the patronage of Relshab, a servant to the Urge Wyrm of Greed. The Yeren learn homid gifts and have begun to develop their own unique repertoire, although no Yeren has as of yet advanced beyond Rank Three. Yeren gain renown for acquiring power, status symbols, and influence, but do so slowly, for even their handful of spirit-sponsors remain wary of these unnatural creatures.

and you also have to remember that it's the spirits who keep kinfolk limited to level 1 gifts as we seen with the Danislavs they could handle up to atleast level 3 but again the spirit keep them down so as a human even if you get a spirit sponsor they are not gonna give you higher rank stuff outside of emergency situations and no spirits consider the comming of the apocalypse not a emergency situation
