Hard to say. The nostalgia tinted praise that those who fondly remember it does muddy the waters of it being allegedly the best edition.
I would love to know if there is a Chinese Warhammer 40k recaster who does recasting but prints of the books. Even the ForgeWorld era books.

Your pic shows you have good taste in women and I wonder why GW hasn't done Japanese exclusive versions of the codex that include grimdark gritty anime style art.

It really depends on what you like. 4e was a reset/toning down edition - that is, by the end of 3e a lot of armies had huge armouries with so many options that GW decided to strip things down and go back to basics. This cycle has repeated a few times over the lifespan of the game, with us being in another such reset stage currently. It does streamline the game and make it more kid- and newbie-friendly. But a lot of players love having heaps of options and crunching out tailored army lists, myself included. 4e played decent but nothing really felt that special or unique. At the time I was an eldar player and my most frequent opponent played CSM - we both bemoaned our huge array of wargear being taken from us and special characters being cut.

It was 5th. I was there. 5th was such a bad experience, price increases, grey knights, dark eldar, imperial guard and necrons being beyond broken, specifically knights, imperial guard being able to make the most ridiculous lists that didn't even fit the deployment zone. The ruleset being trash full of exploitable holes, and the creative death of white dwarf.

Yes 4th was the golden era, make kitbashes, use any kind of terrain, play imperial armour campaigns, use the urban suplement or the jungle rules, make your own vehicles or monsters, flank vehicles to access the rear armour, scatter artillery, use flamethrower templates as god intended to aboid ugly blobs of models on the table.
4th edition fucking rules.

This was only true for chaos, everyone kept using the 3rd ed book and ignored the new one. 4th had some books that changed early to the 5th ed style, those books were way worse than the early ones like nids, tau and marines which are fantastic.

Tyranids really got the shaft in 5th, I didn't play them but I felt for them. Cruddace made a mess of them that took years and multiple editions to clean up.

Agree, the only decent part were the characters which worked well if ported back to 4th to increase variety.
Carnifex were nerfed to the ground, and split in to a thousand different monsters that did not have a model, customization died, and the balance was trash.

Nah every edition of 40k sucks in someway. Some suck so much that they introduce a problem to the game that has never been fixed due to a marketing gimmick.
Looking at you 5th with your stupid true line of sight
4th works best when you are using the 4th edition rulebook and 3rd edition army rules.
Actual best edition is a abomination of 4th with things added from all editions and using coble together codex rules to fit your groups interest

essentially tasteless, but slides off the tongue well.

Very hit or miss. When rinsed well, it can give a slight bitter tang that’s weirdly pleasant on the mouth, but if not rinsed as well it’s extremely bitter and personally I’ve often had to rush to drink some juice to wash it down.

Again, you can also get by with el cheapo ones you buy at big box hardware stores like Home Depot (or its equivalent in your country if you are not American), but those ones are not made of tool steel and thus need to be sharpened far more often, on top of the cutting surface shape being better-suited to cutting parts off of sprues on GodHands vs. generic snippers.

Yup. I ruined two sables before I learned how to treat them, and I’ve never had a problem since.
Two things I used to do that fucked my brushes was dunking them in the water cup past the ferrule, basically getting the glue in the ferrule wet and keeping it wet the whole time I’m using the brush.
And fucking twisting the brush while getting water off it on a towel. Twisting to get a point was shit I saw YouTubers do all the time, but all it does is tug the bristles on the outside out of the ferrule, compounded by a wet ferrule.
I got a 0, a 2 and a 4 I’ve been using for over a year now that all have perfect points, paint never goes more than a third to halfway up the bristles, and I never get paint cup water in the ferrule.

Autism, and emotional immaturity. This kind of behavior is common in any fanbase. Warhammer 40k is no exception.
I was like this as a teenager over 10 years ago. I attached my views to fictional media I was really into.
Did it for Warhammer 40k. The owner of that account might be a teenager who is into Warhammer 40k and going through a phase.

>does James offer any kind of replacement piece service?
Most likely no. You'll have to look for bitz resellers or ebay for a replacement piece. Or pay for a whole new model. I wouldn't be surprised if this is deliberate with some models that look very unstable on a base. Miniatures are supposed to be structurally robust game pieces. Seems that's going out of style at GW more in favor of being detailed display pieces instead. There needs to be a good balance of both. Preferably in favor of game piece robustness.
>lost a whole leg of my triarch stalker
On the off chance that you "lost it" by messing up the leg maybe you can repair it and then work on a Japanese Kintsugi look to "compensate?" This could be a "blessing in disguise" for your Necron army scheme.

>>98871331
DEI/woke detection has the same problem "toxic masculinity" had where both things do exist. Nobody can conclude on when something begins to count as Dei/woke/toxic masculinity. So even the smallest thing that doesn't count but could "be a start of it" sets off alarms for those who don't like those things.
Space Marines in Warhammer 40k set off a lot of alarms for those few who don't like "toxic masculinity."
>>

>I’ve used a cheap pair off Amazon and used it for over 10k pts of models and it’s still useful

>$59.99 Canadian funny money for Godhand plastic clippers

Weird. But I'd probably have to research proper maintenance for clippers to prevent those from rusting. Not gonna lie I'd probably avoid them as I already manage my brushes for miniatures terribly enough. Even with the brush soap. I haven't used Tamiya's brush conditioning fluid, but I'd imagine I'd mess up with those too.
>that exodite eldar girl
Everything the Eldar women should have looked like in the exodite faction. Especially the tanlines, scars and their women having pronounced abs.
But GW probably wouldn't hire actual fans of Warhammer 40k to make the models or stories. I'd imagine because autism would result in more harm than good.
I don't think I could manage the Warhammer 40k ip integrity very well in any capacity either. All I could do is rule of cool and the ladies would be what would make me get hard in the concept art before the sculptors mess up their faces.

>>98869684
how dare you posting peak warhammer 40k?
>>
>>98869717
>>98869722
No it wasn't you lying piece of shit. First of all 4th was '04-'08 and Finecast didn't excrete from GWHQ until late 2011 the very closing days of 5th, and on top of that when people talk about 4th being the best they're explicitly talking about only the first half of 4th so it's even more distant from the Finecast debacle.

Early 4th had the best of 3rd content, some of Forgeworld's best work, the Doctrines and Trait systems, equipment armouries and extensive options for most squads in most armies, the fluff was good, the minis were getting better, it was legit a golden age >>98869691 it's not nostalgia or rose tint.

That doesn't mean everyone will like it, game design is as much a matter of taste and priorities as anything else and can only really be called "objectively" bad when it fails to meet its own claimed goals, but if what you want is
>play cool thematic games in a pre-cucked, pre-enshittified version of the 40K IP
then early 4th can't be beat.
>>
>>98871507
Perhaps the same could be said of all generals
>>
>>98871578
Early Forgeworld sculpts were pretty stinky compared to their later era. You could argue the resin stigma came from the original imperial armour sculpts.
>>
>>98869722
Finecast was the result of GW seeking a way to compensate for the rise of the price of tin, while being still able to use their same metal moulds. That's it.
Their QA was shit, but the idea wasn't bad.

>I don't feel like it is a good idea to post models here at all because of this site's reputation and autism.
Perhaps. At the very least I never post models when challenged or indirectly challenged to do so because the schizos in here will probably harass me over the argument anytime I post models ever again.

No, you're not paranoid. It's honestly not a good idea.
If you want to post models however, just make sure you only post models you never post elsewhere. That way you can stay as anonymous as possible.

Played my first game of 11th. 1k points.
Black Templars:Purge the Foe
Orks: Take and hold
The table was very crowded with the big objectives and the small table size
Turn 1 War Bikers got across the board and managed to charge the crusaders after their surge move. Wartrike was downed by For the Emperor's Honour! However the Crusaders were all slain by the bikers. First Blasters lie in wait for th counter-strike.

End of Ork turn 2.The Boyz teleported out from hiding behind the home objective and shot the Captain to pieces. Dakka rig pivots to the other side of the board to take out the first blasters. Deffkobtas came in on both sides of the board. One squad fails to beat the land raider, but the other takes out the lone eliminator. Sadly they are just off the objectives.

I find it loans itself to a less is more approach, if you wanna smear it on your weapons take a frayed brush, and just gently stipple it along your blades or other sharp bits
If you want blood splatter use a toothpick to flick the end of your brush onto the model (dont do this at your desk because it will go on your monitor and you won't notice before it cures)
its also a nice way to do the blood angel's blood drops if you thin it down with a little water and paint it over gold

Make a gradient on your pallet between a glob of BFTBG and some Agrax Earthshade. Blood turns brown and oxidizes when exposed to air, so it helps sell a more realistic effect if some spots have older blood stains that aren't as fresh, or deeper, darker areas where the blood is more concentrated. The biggest tip I can give you though is don't go overboard. You don't need to cover the entire mini in it, often just a little on a weapon or the ground sells the effect a lot better than splattering it everywhere with a toothbrush or something.

DoW4 is arcadey, cartoony, has base building, is mostly focused on it's cinematic, linear campaign and characters, has smaller scale
TW40k is more indepth, realistic, base building happens on strategical layer, is focused on custom factions and on a sandbox campaign map, has bigger scale

me playing their free playtest
It's logical too. Marines are far more elite here than in previous DoWs and can't be everywhere all at once while DoW is all about capping Requisition and Energy points. Spamming tier 1 units is meta, Necron can shit out 20 of scarabs and rape you asap. You will still be on your 2nd Infiltrator marine unit while Orks already have multiple Gretchins and Boyz everywhere capping everything outcompeting you in resources. It doesn't matter that your one Infilitrators can survive against two units of Boyz (unable to shoot since they have to fight in melee) when there is 10 of them already and enemy can spam them and then vehicles soon after since he can afford them. Marines play DoW2 while everyone else Ultimate Apocalypse
And Necrons units are literally free once you paid for them once, since they keep respawning endlessly and constantly after getting killed

>Scions have been in a weird limbo state since they launched
They exist there because they were clearly a weird attempt by GW to try "primaris" imperial guard.
Nobody likes them because they are generic as fuck and uninteresting and in general are just a dollarstore version of stuff like Kasrkin or Krieg Grenadiers.
Also people play guard for the same reasons why marines are so popular, you can basically come up with any type of guard regiment pretty easily and use any variety of models to make them into an army.

Tempestus Scions however will always be just Tempestus Scions. Only thing different between any scion squad/regiment is their fucking color scheme.
It's like how sisters of battle have never attained the same popularity as space marines, sisters will always just be sisters, their shtick and aesthetic is to just be space catholics. If you move away from that they are no longer sisters. Unlike marines, alongside guard, have so much potential variety built in that you can basically do anything with them.
Same thing applies to Tempestus Scions, they will always be just Scions if you start changing they no longer are Scions, also at that point you might as well just play regular guard and make up your own guard regiment from ground up if you're going to start changing shit.

>>
>>98872047
that's retarded
I get that people like to think that the guard allows you to be whatever regiment you want with whatever lore you want, but on the tabletop that hasn't been the case since 9th e
your options are cadians and recently krieg, and also catachans if you like bad jokes, and the way people roleplay their own regiment is by ignoring the names and keeping the statlines
which you can absolutely do with scions since really all they are is elite guardsmen with carapace armor and deep strike
like
that's what I've been doing for over five years now.
>>
>>98872047
>their shtick and aesthetic is to just be space catholics. If you move away from that they are no longer sisters.
I disagree. I think GW can and should give them more options so they can be more than black, red and white nuns with guns (while still keeping that as their main aesthetic).

If they could be converted into many different types of warriors and historical aesthetics etc then that would kill any final reason for there to ever be female space marines, and that would be a Good Thing.

No because Space Marines are comically large-proportioned dudes who are a player avatar, while Sisters of Battle are normally proportioned hot women who are eye candy.

Currently there's no major difference between, say, Black Templars and Sisters of Battle other than the sexual dimorphism I mentioned.
They're both monastic fanatical combat orders who love black, white and splashes of red.

okay, here's the army list i put together based on what i bought.

if i hadnt included the wraithknight, i've also got jain zhar and 5 banshees, and lhykhis and 10 warp spiders to play around with, as well as a wave serpent and 10 of the fighty guardians. also one of the farseer and spiritseers in the list are using the eldrad and karseth models cause they were cool so i bought them.

only other thing i was really playing around with was the 3rd spirit seer vs the spirit stone on the farseet to give it lone op next to the fire prisms and allow it to tech marine heal them, but i wasnt sure if that was worth giving up a spiritseer to get.

i like the AK pastes as a starting point for bases. then i'll usually add onto that with flock or gravel (i prefer flock over static grass. static grass looks like shit unless you are actually using the static application method to make it stand up). then often some kind of 3rd effect like leaves or ferns or some kind of slime or water.

the trick to beleivable bases is to use at least 2 or 3 different materials. just using some pva glue and then sprinkling gravel or static grass is how you get cheap, lazy looking bases that are totally immersion breaking.

if you are doing industrial mechanical bases though thats a whole other workflow and you need to find materials that can work for things like sheet metal or metal mesh.

I sure do hope that CKs get some non-battleshock mechanics next codex. I get that statcheck armies shouldn't exactly have rules that push them even further (custards havent went with it that far in current one) but after picking stealth and aura size upgrade you might as well forget that you had an army rule. I like the helhunt's 1:2 ratio demand, hope it stays alongside the detachment

all texture pastes are pretty much the same. small gw pots are fine when figuring out what you want, but the big tubs are worth it if you're doing an army. painting them is best but some people just throw a wash/contrast over it.
>>

as long as you keep the white sealer sheet in the cap, they keep for years. i mistakenly threw it out on a few of my first ones thinking it was just some packaging paper, and those ones dried out. the sheet has a thin layer of foam and actually acts as a sort of gasket to insulate the seal on the bottle.

as far as quantity, they used to make the large cans which would last for like 3 armies worth of basing at least. but i havent seen those around for sale as much, just the smaller ones which are like maybe half an army.

>>98872211
i've tried most of the brands, and while most of them are comparable the GW ones are significantly worse quality and about 5x the price per volume. avoid citadel basing pastes at all costs.
>>
>>98872233
Price per ml is sometimes a poor way to judge value. I don't think I'm going to need more than the pot of GW crackle paste I'm using for this army, and while I did go through the first pot of stirland mud really fast it was absolutely worth it to try and find out that yes, I can justify investing the big tub.

The worst texture paste I've used is AK's desert sand. Horrible colour, had to be applied with a stick as a brush couldn't handle it, and soaked up paint like MDF.

You're going in three different directions with the tank detachment, terminator detachment, and dreadnought detachment while losing out on the buffs the shield hosts give to the Katahs. Watched Hellraiser 1 and 2 tonight after finishing the revival game. Man I knew Dark Eldar were heavily inspired by the cenobites but man, its really clear after seeing the OG's. Same as the Godhand from Berserk.
Haemonculi are even more mutilalted cenobites if you stood them next to each other (they even can have their own totally not a hell box!)
The inspiration is so clear and direct GW could have Vect have the Pinhead look and it would fit him fine. And by that I mean the golden masked Giga Pinhead we see at the end of the game

Years ago I read an academic article about the history first gay anal fisting sex club in San Francisco, that later became a sex club for gay men and women, that then became the first and only het/bi/gay all on in sex club so I'm farily well initiated into the weirder side of the S&M world. But yeah pretty mild back then compared to today. Just like the cenobite design themsevles. meant to be mutilated beyond human comprehension, and one justs fat and the women, Deepthroat as a small opening in her throat and bald. Hearly the end point of the extreme journey of sensation compared to this fan art of their own cenobite. Would be a perfect Haemonculis too, this is how I imagine them

Do people really think Stern being able to go toe to toe with Gray Knights and Daemons while also coming back to life endlessly because she LE BELIEVES is good writing? She's also more important to the Eldar's fight against Slannesh than any of the Eldar themselves because she has a book that contains the secrets to beating chaos.
>>
>>98872453
There is always two enemy types in every space marine game. Would be odd for one of them not to be chaos, but necrons being the secret late game anime could make sense. Would tie into Titus being the warden of ultramar now and trying to drive back Invaders and reclaim the 500 worlds, with necrosar and the nightbringer shard being the conclusion of the game.

>sold at a computer store
In the days of yore "computer stores" were more "nerd stores" and would have stuff like gunpla, which is where GodHands are most well-known afaik, and other /tg/ or /toy/ shit. In the US we have a store called Micro Center that still carries a bunch of "nerd shit" (card games, TTRPGs, misc tchotchkes etc.) on top of being a computer store. Big ups Micro Center, you're just like Radio Shack but better in every way.

Or it's because they're small nippers not clearly meant for use on wire, so stores that sell 3d printers would carry them for cutting filament.
>proper maintenance
It's the same as any other tool made of steel, apply mineral oil to your wear surfaces
Sharpening 2-blade snippers requires blade alignment, so I'd suggest against it unless you know what you're doing (you don't if you didn't think to oil them).
>should have looked like
It's down to GW not wanting to make more sculpts.
Easier to say to a CAD monkey "here's the dino, here's the rider, here's the weapon, make a few poses" with pre-existing assets. Saves backend time and effort (and therefore money)
The UK being host to a particular brand of "sex-negative feminism" comboed with current thing IdPol pushing man-ish "women" to normalize troons via predictive programming doesn't help.

CK player here.
The benefit of Knights (both variants) is that each model kit comes with all of the weapons you need to make multiple variants. This is important because if you have magnets you can get access to basically a third of your army options out of a single kit.
Christmas boxes do NOT do this. They notoriously leave out the extra weapons.

The Community article specifies that the Ruinator can be built as an Abominant, Rampager, or Desecrator and that the War Dog Stalkers can be built as Brigands or Karnivores. Previous IK boxes that left out sprues only mentioned the options that could be built, like the 2024 box said you could build the Knight Paladin as an Errant and left it at that.

I actually like Vallejo's Dark earth even though I prefer AK's dark Earth.
Vallejo's Dark Earth seems better for "dead brown soil" while AK's is for more lively dark brown soil if that makes sense. Both have good uses.
I went with AK (wargame terrain smaller pot) for the versatility.

Also I love how Vallejo and AK name their paints after World War and Cold War stuff. I jokingly told a Russian friend to check for mud in his local area to confirm if Vallejo's Russian mud is accurate to his outdoors. I forgot what he said but it was a cringey dad joke if I ever made one.

It's because they're far bigger in the historical modeling world.

>It's because they're far bigger in the historical modeling world.
That's understandable. Those historical modeling hobbyists and model train hobbyists are absolute gods compared to us wargaming plebians. That isn't stopping Vallejo/AK to try and dip their hands in the wargaming space.
>I actually know a guy who contracted AK
I'll assume you aren't lying.
Please ask him to expand the metal acrylic line with citadel metal mimicking colors. I'm already happy that AK made contrast equivalents and acrylic washes in dropper bottles.
It is like AK is trying to shape itself to be "the one reliable ecosystem hobbyists can get stuck in."

Funnily enough their best innovation would be their dropper bottle caps. I haven't had one crack and the design "shields" the paint in the center. It is pretty simple and genius.

>try and dip their hands in the wargaming space
They already make all the stuff to make the paints, it's money left on the table to not have a line for wargaming alongside historicals. The difference between Citadel "Sotek Green" and AK "Turquoise" is a bit of black pigment in the AK paint.
>Please ask him
The guy I know got a deal for AK's pigment to make a small batch of automotive paint, he doesn't work there, he can't get them to do things.

That said I do really like AK's paints, genuinely my favorite to work with of the normal "hobby" paints. I just wish I could find them local.

Competitively the faction is in a tough spot, marines now can chew down the relatively tougher units easily and your iconic marine killers aka Genestealers can't kill them for shit. I only play casual games with my friends and I'm having a blast. It fun to keep your opponent always on their toes with half your army being in reserves and popping up everywhere on the table.
>>
>>98874373
I have no idea how they plan to redesign GSC stats with their eventual codex to keep up with the stat creep. Like most of their defenses are probably staying the same, but are they getting strength bumps or more anti-infantry stuff or hunter profiles? Or are they just going to become even more of a horrid Army than they already are, at a time when blast 2 torrent weapons and cleave melee profiles make the archetype a joke to play?

They're effectively the same thing. "Wash" was just the generic term for very thinned out pigment that was made to sink into the creases and crevasses of models and weren't necessarily darker, but could also be light. "Shade" specifically referred to darkening washes but took over use when GW used it to refer to their popular darkening washes like Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade.

I've been using Vallejo primer for years, but I've been wondering if there are better options. It gets the job done, but it has a tendency to have micro clogs and sputtering after the paint has been sitting in the reservoir for a few minutes. Makes it extremely difficult to have consistent coats with no pooling.

Yes, I'm thinning it. Roughly 50/50 with Vallejo thinner. I've tried adding flow improver as well, but it just results in a poor finish.

Any suggestions for alternatives?

Also most people aren't going to just go out and buy new paints on a whim when they have a decently sized set already. The new tone pro stuff looks nice but it doesn't do anything new that I can't do already and I don't need any new tones right now, so I'm not gonna rush to the store to buy any.

Also fuck GW's paint pots.

>Also most people aren't going to just go out and buy new paints on a whim
nigga how do you even exist in this hobby?
a box of troops is 60 USD minimum
I'm not saying you should buy every color again but like 1-2 replacements for really tough colors (light grey, white, yellow, tan, pink, bright orange, ect) shouldn't be that big a deal

People's budgets vary and it's not an easy time atm. Chill, just because people haven't basedgoyed for the new GW(tm) tone(tm) pro(tm) doesn't mean they're modeless

Apparently their pots are like that because it's more childproof than droppers, but to be honest I feel like it'd be way easier to spill a whole pot than oversqueezing a dropper

For Honor is total garbage and all their designs are pukeworthy for anyone with historical knowledge.

Iron Hands were supposed to be Scotsmen but GW never went very deep on it, probably because it doesn't mesh well with the whole humourless cyborgs angle.
Unfortunately the humourless cyborgs angle is already done better by Mechanicus and Necrons so it's a waste. They should be robot Scotsmen like >>98873086 and get some flavour back into them.

>Looked it up
>Dawkins says he's still not religiously Christian, but is "culturally Christian", greatly prefers Christianity to Islam and likes living in a Christian nation
>What opened his eyes was London promoting Ramadan over Easter
Bloimey
Imagine working your whole life to destroy Christianity in the Western world only to help accidentally bring about the destruction of your culture along with it. Must feel pretty stupid
