>>98875612>competitive play and support was actually pretty good 2019.
>>98875546A recent big event consisting of 700 seats split between 7 events in my area had approximately 8 people per event signed up. Two events had seats at Pro Tour or whatever the fuck it's called now as prizes. 40/700 seats occupied. A national tournament organizer had to drive across the country, feed, and house staff so they can host a tournament for 40 people with a population of a million people within an hour's drive. In all seriousness there are no more sane people playing the game. Everyone playing at my store is incompetent and/or deep in the depths of a gambling addiction. It's so over. Wizards is not able to print enough to introduce this game to China or India, nations with the greatest growing middle class. They could be pulling in three billion annually if they invested in any printing but no, they just want to bleed the whales. >>98876419>expecting Legacy players to adaptThese fuckers were playing Venser during the first Trump administration. There was one guy who posted frequently on The Source who argued that Blood Moon was ban worthy not on power-level reasons (the decks that relied on it weren't actually good at the time), but because the card would randomly create these non-games and knock people out of contention. Which KINDA makes sense from a purely competitive standpoint. Until you remember that fast combo can exist because FoW answers it, and there was this meme going around that "FoW is a bad card, actually" that people talked themselves into believing because they were trying to convince themselves that Maverick could have real staying power and "0: counter target spell" isn't an insane line of text. Then these fuckers insisted Astrolabe needed to be banned because it's good against Blood Moon (again, those decks sucked anyway) and "undermined Wasteland's place in the format" (spoiler alert: UR Delver was the best deck that hole year an if you didn't play 4 Wasteland in it you were actually just wrong). Then these same fuckers insisted Prismatic Ending needed to be banned because if you had 2 basics you could answer Blood Moon (thankfully they didn't get their way because banning a removal spell would have been a joke). The only more egregious "plz ban" was the case against FoN. what's babby's first legacy deck?
delver prolly
>>98879587Sneak and Show is a simple and powerful A+B combo deck that doesn't require you to make too many very impactful decisions, and the sheer power of your combo can often overcome lack of format knowledge and skill to give you wins. It's also relatively well positioned in the current metagame I think.UR delver (which is often played without delver now lol) has tons of microdecisions that you make throughout the game and has a very high skill ceiling, but the play patterns in it are somewhat similar to other format tempo decks (but you get force of will + brainstorm + ponder + daze, so of course there's still that learning curve) so it should help you acclimate to the legacy climate.
>>98879216yeah i've caught up now. that's kind of depressing. considering how tiny the standard playerbase is compared to edh i'm still surprised they did this. i kind of assumed they'd allow competitive formats to decline gracefully as they pulled support.

any paper Modern players? I'm playing fast and well but being nice about it.we time out and draw.I explain that draws count as losses for prizing and it's better EV if one of us concedes and we split what we get from the last round.he asks me to concede and not split because he really wants store credit.I say no, but I'll concede if we split. He eventually agrees to take the win and split the credit as long as he gets to keep the promo pack (...).I lose my next round quickly and go watch his. This guy asks his next X-0 opponent to concede to him so he can have all the store credit because he wants store credit. The opponent agrees(!?).The guy then takes all the credit and doesn't split it, going undefeated by begging every opponent for concessions.

>>98882206The only people playing paper legacy today are people who played paper legacy 20 years ago. If you want to play it do it on modo.
>>98882206Legacy and vintage in paper have been exceptionally shafted by wotc in recent times, the only major event held by wotc for legacy or vintage a year is eternal weekend. Most player run events allow you to have proxies, either allowing proxies of all reserved list cards or typically like 15 proxies for a list, which should be more than enough to cover duals + a few of the most expensive cards. >>98882536This is pretty correct for 95% of the people that play legacy in paper with real duals. But if you are near a place that has paper legacy events with any regularity, they most likely allow proxies. Really though if you're going to play legacy your likely only or best option is to just do it on mtgo. It's not exactly cheap on there either but it's not nearly as bad as paper.

Member when you could just put this guy in your deck and win? I member… so many discard spells into bad guy scoops… i miss magic so much bros…
>>98882305In Modern? Theres UB Midrange just very recently but it fell out of favor. Esper Blink is still very much a thing. If you want mono black, you can either run Mono Black Eldrazi which runs Sheoldred backed up by retarded Eldrazi spells like K-command, or you can run Necrodominance which is your traditional Black based value deck but is less effective right now
>>98882682hobbit was low effort slop, but setting fits, so it sold. marvel trash had a massive budget, but all the fucking heroes are just lame
>>98882305Legacy has mono black helm combo, where you just play busted black cards like oppo agent and the recently printed Barrowgoyf, and either stall and win via combat damage and value with Barrowgoyf or assemble your Helm of Obedience + Leyline of the Void/Dauthi Voidwalker combo and win. Playing 4 mainline leylines and lots of discard can be pretty good into the current legacy metagame, many people are trying to abuse Bilbo or otherwise use their yard for value. The UB deck in the format is more of a tempo deck than a hard slogging control deck, but it's very good. Tamiyo, cheap creature interaction, discard, barrowgoyf or kaito to finish off the games. Grixis control is in the format and quite competitive, and most of the deck is UB it mostly just splashes red for bolts and a few command spells and sb cards.

They draw Jace making a goatse for fucks sake. There is no way the company that has an allergic aversion to tits would also stand for a joke about retards. No fucking way. >>98884458i don't know what they are talking about either, i heard The Hobbit is dropping pretty hard but so far Reality Fracture seems to be doing normal price fluctuations as people figure out what cards are worth using vs merely looking like they could be good.

>>98884194This statement is doubly retarded as they are specifically making the upcoming underwater plane work by simply adding a flying sidegrade for it. I know Maro has been spewing absolute nonsense for a good ten years now but even something that should be straightforward and simple isn't a correct statement.
>>98876053I don't really know why, but it's so fucking funny to me that because of changelings, they always have to exclude some kind of creature type from these things, so the way it actually reads is "diversity is great and everyone is welcome and makes things better.
