With the backer kit campaign rolling, what are your experiences with Swordworld?I dont play most modern RPGs. I usually play crunchy stuff like Palladium or Dark Eye. Would I find this too shallow?
>the moment the previous thread falls into the archiveNot even pretending, are you.
>>98897033>SwordworldNever played it, but it was the system the people from Lodoss created yeah? I was always curious about it, but never played it, myself.I wonder how different it is from AD&D
>>98897085Soft or crunchy, chud! But no, really Im just late to the part and didnt check the archive. You did remind me and I checked the last thread. I liked the multitclassing. And it seems like e eryone is being strict about the quality of the translation. I am curious how the whole number of lives things work as a player experience.>>98897116Far as I can tell, its similar but more crunchy. Checks are from your stats which is similar to dnd and then the level in the class you have or your "adventurer" class which is a universal sort of class everyone has and its equal to whatever your highest level is in your other classes.
>>98897116streamlines certain things. Like monsters don't roll, just the attacked player rolls, so it allows for big battles but cuts down on time the GM spends rolling dice for the monster's sake. multiclassing is a big thing. There is a "pawn" system kind of like Dragon's Dogma incase a player isn't able to make it to a session... Lots of conveniences that make sense for busy playgroups, they say. Also a "soulscar" system that causes permadeath, so you have reasons to be careful
It's a shame they got some slopmeister to be the art director on this thing. Like... Solo Leveling? Sword Art Online? Fucking really, could you have picked anything more generic?Tons of great japanese illustrators and they choose someone whose name would resonate with zoomers, I guess.I would have really liked something classier, like MON, which mix old school vibes and modern stuff.I picked the three books bundle because I've been hoping for an official english release for a while to try and bring people to this, but something does smell fishy about this whole thing.
>>98902212>Tons of great japanese illustrators and they choose someone whose name would resonate with zoomers, I guess.SW art is pretty generic that way by design. They still have cute girls, so whatever.
>>98902212>>98902425If you ask me I think they rely a lot on Record of Lodoss War member berries to excuse uninteresting art.
>>98902123>There is a "pawn" system kind of like Dragon's Dogma incase a player isn't able to make it to a session... Lots of conveniences that make sense for busy playgroups, they say.Yes, like when you 3 or 4 of the players cant make it to the group... as well as the GM. Because no one even took any numbers off my fliers!
>>98897085Wow, someone who is excited about the game made a thread about it!
>>98897033>Amateur localization company Mugen Gaming discovers they're too financially poor to license all the original Sword World artwork, copyrighted by Kadokawa>Forced to replace all original artwork with new artwork by an anime director named Shunsuke Nakashige>Despite being too poor to license Kadokawa's original art, they try to convince Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano to provide new art for this Sword World localization>Besides all the old Sword World artwork being tossed out for copyright, said localization company is already censoring original Sword World terms like Barbarous in favor of Scarborn & changing the names of unique Sword World classes into more generic, plain sounding classes like Sorcererhttps://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/mugen-gaming/sword-world/updates/35030<[A commenter concerned about localization quoting Mugen Gaming's discord]: "Scarborn was chosen to represent the "Chaos" faction of the setting whose name would could be transliterated as Barbarous instead (the original would be closer to Barbaros). This is because many people do consider the word Barbaric offensive due to historical usage of the word against native people.">Not only that, but replacing the original Sword World terms race and tribe for lineage like what happened in D&D, and also replacing the original Sword World term "sex" for "gender", which negatively affects Sword World Rulebook II featuring topics covering marriage, inheritance (domains and taxes), and the nobility>The original Sword World neither contains the term "class" nor "multiclass". Instead, Sword World has a vocation / technical skill system where you build your character as an individual with a pile of useful skills for his or her individual calling. Despite this unique system, Mugen Gaming decided to rename the vocation / technical skill system as simply class / multiclass, likely to crib off D&D as if they'll court any of the normalcattle who refuse to play anything but 5eEmbarrassing
