Prev>>98870807
I gave your *REDACTED* a big large blast last night OP.
This isn't strictly on topic for horus heresy the game: shooting stuff in the Age of Darkness but people always talk about the Eldar being different than in 40k. I skipped all the Cabal segments and don't really understand what that means aside from the Deldar never coming up to my knowledge. Surely elf is elf. >TQ: How many large blasts, or bigger, do you use?4 pie plates at once when I have my Imperator built.
>>98900397Vulkan's homeworld was raided by Daeldar
>>98900397They're the same. They might describe them differently because the imperium knew less and fought them much less frequently.
question for the Space Wolves fags out there, how hard is to make the marines in kill team look heresy appropriate?scale looks ok (on minicompare at least), so I'm thinking of just shaving off chaos symbols and greenstuff some flayed skin over the mk7 torsosI'm gonna buy it for the upgrade sprue, but I wanna know if I bodies can be reused as well
>>98900397>soul stones are a m33 thing so that already cuts down a bit of things>paths probably already exist but might be different than the 40k ones just because they are new and those had 10k worth of experience to evolve on so not all might have survived>exodites already exist and are travelling towards planets to colonize if they didn't already reach them>deldar also already exist but even more than paths they might not be that similar to their 40k incarnation>more subgroups of elfs probably existed but those were just crushed by the imperium when expanding>harlequins exist and are the closest to their 40k equivalent but didn't leave the library iirc>elfs that survived the birth of slaanesh and their empire turning into the eye of terror are the least mutated they will ever be atmYmmv but the short of it is "we don't know and can only assume things", BL just uses the 40k stuff because GW sells those. The end and the death just has the generic craftworld/commorragh/exodites but again on the "more groups", those were just the ones that showed up.
>>98900464honestly you would be better off using the red corsair raiders, at this point in the heresy the nightlords dont really have the chaos trim.
>>98900559>>soul stones are a m33 thing so that already cuts down a bit of thingsIsn't that the infinity circuit? I remember the inventor died presumably melted into etheric goo like the end of NGE
>>98900397Eldar are gonna have all the same tech but not the same organization. The aspect shrines might not exist as coherent organizations or cultures but someone can still put a sonic screamer on and run around with a power sword, or shoot someone with a fancy shuriken catapult. Autarchs wouldn't exist but you'd still have commanders.
I'm having trouble against anyone who run predominantly jump packs. It seems like either they slam into me turn one and I can't do enough about it or they can hide behind terrain and jump out at me turn two. Either way I get overwhelmed. If I deploy back, I miss out on too much with objectives. Maybe I'm just bad at this?
>>98901080panic and suppressive weapons, interdiction cadre despoilers to screenwhat legion are you?
>>98901089I do Death Guard and like boots on the ground shooting stuff. I probably should work in some interdiction cadre stuff in general.
>>98900464I've seen people converting up NL from this box, it works if you put effort into it and shave off the pointy trim on the legs, swap the pads, swap the heads who are not 30k. The loincloths look really good painted up as flayed flesh btw.
>>98901124>DGphosphex it is then
Am I correct in assuming the Linebreaker Echelon won't work for things like Tyrant Siege Terminators or Deathshroud Terminators because they don't have "Cataphractii" or "Tartaros" directly in their names, despite being wearing those types of terminator armour?
>>98901415What I dislike the most of "evolving" editions is that old and new things aren't written with each other in mind
>>98901563No anon, this was completely intentional, they didn't want you using any of the various legion specific units in linebreaker, they were trying to support using the generic cataphractii/tartaros Terminator squads. Unfortunately the dark angels continue to be special snowflakes, and managed to squeeze their way in anyway because they got the only unit that has the ability to pick between cataphractii and Tartaros in terminator deathwing companions in legacies
I think one of the main issues I have is how poorly conveyed some of the Praetor roles are. While it leaves room for creative interpretation, I feel that many thread-autists will have an absolute shitfit unless it falls in line with their own preestablished notion of what said Praetor looks like. "Suffering from success", indeed.
>>98902235What do you mean by praetor roles?
Can multiple "for every X models in this unit" options go on the same guy? Specific example, could I have two Legionaries in a Despoiler Squad with a plasma pistol AND a power weapon? Or would I have to have two guys with a plasma pistol and two different guys with power weapons?
I really like the Brotherhood of Ruin. I realise they are only mentioned once as taking it up the ass from the World Eaters while trying to beseige Sarum then having their worlds eaten and being made extinct. I just find the concept of archeotech stealing cyborg abhumans with grungy factory-cruisers and AI powered ordinatus engines neat. It's peak techobarbarian nonsense. I imagine them somewhere between Andy Chambers Demiurge and the Simulants from Red Dwarf
>>98903140It's kind of interesting that they have ork allies. I feel like that's a fairly under-explored part of the setting, ork-human alliances.
made a WE guy for my friend
>>98903355He's a big guy.
>>98901415You bring me PTSD from 1.0 when Deathshrould could have cataphractii
>>98903381As they should. Especially now that Volley fire is an aftermath option
>>98902260Pardon me, I was minutes from sleep and got my terms mixed up. I meant Consul.
>>98903657He was a consul of Rome.
>>98903711A Consul... of Rome.
>>98903140I always tought they were meant to be 30k-fied chaos squats keeping the theme of pulling stuff from old epic and RT and making it modern considering some of their units and where they are from but I would prefer them to be their own thing. I was also planning on using some of their ships for a sarum bfg fleet considering they captured them and making up some tunnelers for epic for the same reason.
>>98903140>>98903977That sounds like chaos/renegade Leagues of Votann
>>98904017Votann weren't even a thing being concepted when that was released.
>>98903060Yes. Though do keep in mind this makes things easier for snipers.
>>98901894Loyalty is its own reward
>>98900204>How many large blasts, or bigger, do you use?Used to be zero, but I am getting somewhat addicted to them the more I use them. So currently around 2-4 "heavy grade ones" (think gravis plasma and up) and a lot more once I get the quad mortars sorted out.
>>98901080Tacticals or despoilers in a rhino are actually faster than an assault marine on the turn they jump out to charge. So keep that in mind. If you are having issues dealing with terrain? Bring fateweaver allies and just turn that shit off. Local assault marine blob not so tough after the ruin theyre hiding behind dematerializes and a large blast hits them head on. >>98900464Per the NL trilogy (40k books as they are) the batwinged helmets are actually heresy appropriate. They were ceremonial designs from the legion days and the guy wearing one gets shit from his squadmates for the campy helmet he wears "for old times sake". Call them sarum pattern if you want to justify it to yourself more. As for the rest? Pretty easy for the most part. You want to trim down some of the excess trim (remove spikes where reasonable, etc), also obviously remove the overt chaos stuff, late heresy yada yada and all that bit it obviously looks a bit "era inappropriate".
>>98900559>>deldar also already exist but even more than paths they might not be that similar to their 40k incarnation"no"The Dark Eldar are basically exactly their 40k counterparts, except rather than the kabal syndicate structure theyre ruled by aristocratic noble houses. All the major technological elements are basically there, maybe some haemonculus creations missing
>>98904390Not sure why he came out sideways.
>>98904398Because you held the camera sideways? Your phone camera is oriented so that it's the right way up when you hold the phone sideways, with the main Home/shutter button on the right (so the upside down images like the one you posted here means the poster is likely left handed). Now your phone will put how you held it in the metadata of the image, allowing it to rotate the image correctly no matter what contortion you got up to, but 4chan strips all metadata and shows the image the way it really is.
>>98904398g'day mate
>>98904398And this one is upside down now. I give up. Heres a fresh photo.
>>98904404Im pretty sure thats not right, at least from my personal experience. When I hold the phone "landscape" its the right way up, when I take a photo "portrait" it comes out sideways.
Progress on the fatty satty is going at a decent pace. Still havent figured out what to do with the shoulders, but someone suggested stripes and that does sound good.
>>98902235Seing you mean "Consul role", I wish Siege breakers could take a heavy weapon choice, seeing how they gave full access to the armory by unlocking phosphex.Whether they go Frontline or hang in the backfield, that'd be the player's call. They did the same with the Optae and the now-downgraded Armistos: both are now lieutenants, simply one is melee and the other is ranged. They are essentially the very same officer, but with 40k style separate data sheets based on their gear
>>98904414Ah, oops. I used "sideways" there for two different things. The first "sideways" was relative to how the camera wants to be, the second "sideways" is relative to how you'd hold a phone for most tasks. So to use less ambiguous words, the photo came out sideways because he held the phone in portrait orientation, holding it in landscape orientation with the button on the right makes the pictures come out right-way-up even when the metadata is stripped off.
>>98904410was the cat hair intentional?
>>98904611thats just dust
>>98904390People are aware that Fateweaver only turns off area terrain LOS blocking I hope. Never see that being mentioned when there's talk about Tzeentch.
>>98904661>People are aware that Fateweaver only turns off area terrain LOS blocking I hopeThats the big thing though, who cares about cover saves and movement. I can see you through that ruin (that you arent in)
>>98904665No what I mean is that if a unit is hiding behind a terrain piece that isn't area terrain (which should be half of the terrain pieces at least according to the rulebook) you can't make that piece of terrain see-through with your fateweaver allies.
>>98904612All is dust.
>>98904676>No what I mean is that if a unit is hiding behind a terrain piece that isn't area terrainYes, but "terrain pieces" are both far rarer than area terrain, and do not have the same LOS blocking properties. If I can so much as see a speck of a unit through a terrain piece theyre in LoS, if theyre 3"+ behind area terrain they arent. So yes, you cant turn off a mountain or hill (unless its area terrain that grants a cover save) or a fully formed impassable building/statues/whatever. But how often do you need to do that? What is your conception of a normal board where this is significant? >the rulebook guidanceIs first of all just that, its a reference for "this is a solid amount of terrain" and not even a "this is the official requirement". But even going by that the average terrain piece is at most 4x4", things like statues and foundains and stuff. small impassable obstacles which do not represent nearly as much of a significant LOS issue as area terrain. You are not (without great difficulty) hiding a unit behind that space marine statue, while that piece of eagle area terrain can from certain angles block a lot of shots. So you arent wrong, but that doesent matter very much.
>>98904710To use an example from a game I played. And yes, this terrain is not great quality (unpainted) but I would consider this a decent setup for table and representative of other tables I have played on/how much terrain is considered "acceptable/reasonable" for the local area. All those ruins? Thats area terrain. The terrain pieces? That would be what, the two small houses, maybe the crates and maybe the little walls? Its not "nothing", but the ability to selectively ignore the ruins is enough to render a gunline absurd (as was the case here, where I simply flattened a custodes army without much difficulty or thought, the plan was to outscore them (which I did) but by turn 3 the thought became "so what if I just table them" which became a borderline realistic proposal (borderline as tribunes and telemons are basically immortal))
>>98904396>The dark eldar are basically their 40k counterparts except when they aren'tAnon...
>>98904726Locally we play with 4 to 6 terrain pieces that purely block LOS, some large enough to hide a spartan behind. Looking at the terrain you use I can see why you think fateweavers are broken lmao. Also the ruins without base plates technically should be played as terrain pieces, not area terrain, and this would block LOS entirely (wouldn't even be able to shoot through windows)It's just like terrain in general, depending on how much or little people use the game they experience can be entirely different.
>>98904748Okay, anon, try and think of what PRACTICAL difference it makes as to whether your army is led by a highborn or an archon. Because there isnt any. Theyre still the same dark eldar using the same weapons and fighting in the same, way, all that changed is the fluff/theming.
how do tortuga bay marines scale compared to nu-mk6 etc?
>>98904764>Also the ruins without base plates technically should be played as terrain pieces, not area terrainCool, so you can see right through all the windows (which means you dont even need fateweavers to a large extent) because the whole 3" LoS blocking is an area terrain thing (terrain features only block the LoS they physically block, so a ruin with lots of windows is effectively transparent), and they dont give a cover save (because that is a feature of area terrain)Ruins just dont really work as terrain features.>some large enough to hide a spartan behindUh oh! Someone isnt following official GW guidelines(TM). The authorities have been notified.More seriously do post a picture of your tables, this sounds somewhat interesting.
Not the same guy, but I guess we're using terrain that's too big, huh?
>>98904819>it's just the fluffThat's not a small difference, fluff is what pushes this game. Fluff is how FW was selling the black books. And we don't even know if the whole torture to keep slaanesh away is even a thing in 30k.
>>98904901yeah. if it wasn't for lore, I don't think many people would be going :lets buy 60 tacticals,3 rhinos, 2 land raiders and the same heroes for the Nth time.
>>98904878For the "official suggestion" for terrain features? Maybe.Area terrain is anywhere up to 10"x10" per the same suggestion. Anyways, if you are it just reinforces my point that for very natural and obvious reasons no one plays according to those "guidelines" or whatever you want to call them, and that everyone just uses the ruins they have lying around. And those ruins are area terrain.
>>98904901>That's not a small differenceExcept it actually is. Even "in the fluff" the dark eldar pre vect and the dark eldar bost vect are the same fucking guys, its pre vs post heresy NL tier "theres no difference". They still act the same, operate the same, have the same motivations, aesthetics, themes, its all the same except instead of aristocratic power its a criminal meritocracy.
>>98904901probably is, they stole ppl from Nocturne
>>98904878That looks like a pretty sparsely populated table in terms of terrain. Although I guess its still acceptable, even if its on the "planet bowling ball" end of the spectrum. Not everything needs to be a busy cityfight.
>>98904901>And we don't even know if the whole torture to keep slaanesh away is even a thing in 30k.We do. It is. The dark eldar were doing their whole thing before slaanesh, then slaanesh happened and they found that they could just double down to avoid consequences so they did. The entire reason theres any dark eldar still around is that they torture people to stave off slaanesh, this was a thing they were doing long before the cabals replaced the aristocratic houses, long before the dark eldar were forcibly consolidated in commoragh.
>>98904878>primaris bottom right corner
What do wise anons of 4chan think of recon marines with astartes shotguns in a DA army?
>>98905010I like recons with shotguns.
>>98904976yes, they are called pretor command squad.
>>98905020Theyre clearly jump pack assault intercessors.
>>98905010Theyre cool, but I think recons are quite pricy and shotguns suffer from "havoc launchers exist and have 48" range for some reason"
>>98905030the units share the same jump packs. that is true.
>>98905054The rest of the model too, I recognize those poses.
>>98904878>Pr*maris
>>98905057yes they share the poses too. As far as the ETB ones goes. It is the 4 venguard veterans with power swords and a veteran sgt with a relic sword. Plus the new TH/SS captin painted in gold.
>>98905058Back to your cave rivet counter.
Laughing at the sperging about the primaris models. Yeah, I don't want to see them either but we're willing to let the guy proxy to test out the game and see if he even likes it before he pulls the trigger.
>>98905084A man of nobility and understanding. Plus primaris are are great source of parts. nice belts, ammo pouches, grenades, nice helmets , cool helmetless heads.
>>98903977>>98904017I also got a Squatological vibe from the Brotherhood of Ruin, that's why I mentioned the demiurge who also have factory ships. It's never stated what kind of abhuman they are though.
>>98905089>helmetsNo, that's where I draw the line.
>>98905084Tourist.
>>98905089the second guy has a mk7 helmet which is not ok, you pleb
>>98904878I don't think you should be able to target the enemy's Deployment Zone from your own Deployment Zone. I don't agree with it.
>>98905089These swords are so wide. Do you think they could be split along their length into two swords? Swords so wide you could play cricket with
>>98905084It would be nice to be able to play either game with the same minis. You could play 7E-8E with the same 30k marines saying they were relic heresy-era suits. But 11E literally squatted Tacticals and all Firstborn. I wonder if 30k marines could be made to pass for Primaris. But they look gigantic.Custodes can apparently play either game with the same units... but it's Custodes. They seem one-dimensional. No doubts, no weaknesses, no struggle.
>>98905113The Demourg are also mentioned in an Alpha Legion story were they raid a hollowed out asteroid crewed by robots. The Demiurg operated it remotely, sending cargo ships to collect ore and stuff.
stripes on the shoulderpads. Should probably do the backside, but the shoulders are annoyingly asymmetrical between the front and back so lining them up will be a pain
>>98905010>>98905019I am assembling a shotgun team for a ZM force this very minute. I'm not sure if I would actually run them as shotguns though, they seem like a weapon having 2 in a squad is great for stun but whole units that can take them seem meh. Are they purely rule of cool beyond a few?
>>98905556>[Shotguns] seem like a weapon having 2 in a squad is great for stun but whole units that can take them seem meh.Immense disagree. Shotguns should not be Special weapons where a single one can stun an entire enemy unit. They used to be assault alternatives to bolters. Too bad that niche is already squatted on by Volkite
>>98905651>Shotguns should not be Special weapons where a single one can stun an entire enemy unitAnd yet they are, this is also what they were last edition too. If you want shotguns to be more offensive, have them always fire at full BS even when snapshotting (since theyre firing big spreadshot and therefore are hard to miss with), that would make them really potent on the charge (full BS volley fire).
>>98905658>If you want shotguns to be more offensive, have them always fire at full BS even when snapshotting (since theyre firing big spreadshot and therefore are hard to miss with), that would make them really potent on the chargeI like this idea so much better. It would also pair with Light units, which can snapfire after running
>>98905682Yea, that would be really cool. Shotgun scouts doing their thing as skirmishers. I "like" the idea of shotguns doing stun (or being concussive last edition) because it plays into that idea of them being "precursor weapons", you fire in this withering volley as you close the gap to be better in melee. But it makes them weapons where you only want one, as opposed to "squad guns". You could also maybe (instead of the full BS thing) give shotguns rending (the new one), something something spreadshot finds weaknesses. Although I do think the full BS shooting would be really cool and help make them a dedicated "hybrid assault" weapon. Tactical veteran squad with shotguns unloading two volleys before charging in with 2A each.
>>98905694I was thinking of the gun being Firestorm so it could volley at full BS (and could choose to keep shooting instead of going in), but full BS snapshots feel more natural
>>98905722I feel like a gun giving firestorm is a bit weird, and its a bit more niche. Full BS snapshotting seems like it would have more cool applications (like the whole "light units can run and snapshot assault weapons") thing some other anon mentioned.
>>98905658Add that to Skirmish units and that would make shotgun Mor Deythan way more enticing>>98905722Or that
>>98905725Yeah that's me, agreeing with (You) lol
>>98905495I know the back stripes dont exactly line up with the front ones, but I have no idea how you would even properly do that so im calling this guy done. If I had transfers and knew how to use them something on the stripes might be an idea, but I can always do that later when i get some.
>>98905788Long piece of painter tape and just continue to fold it over the top. Think of it as continuing the geometry.
>>98906081>Long piece of painter tape and just continue to fold it over the topI tried that with the tape I had (some electric tape I think), but the weird bends on the shoulderpads made it hard to do a properly straight line while also having the tape be flush so paint wont get underneath. But yea, maybe that was the way to go.
Speaking of less common units. I've of the mind that 30k games are way more fun with only one elitesuperduoerspecial squad per 3k. Waves of tacs, despoilers, even recon and bikes are way more fun than spamming elite slots.
>>98906092Don't pull it taught over the spines and get real painter tape and gently run it up over and down.
>>98906104WS5 is too superior to WS4 to risk it
>>98906104This is true. >>98906129"yes"In a straight fight WS5 dudes will almost always win, not even just because they have WS5 (although it doesent hurt), but because they have better durability and weapons options (and often times better saves). The issue is action economy. A veteran squad can eat its weight in despoilers all day. But it cant engage every despoiler squad at once. A terminator command squad can wade through 3000pts of despoilers (probably), but they wont, because the despoilers can just run past them and go for the couple scoring units in the homefield and win that way. Against an opponent that overcommits to elite melee elements, you actually CAN just win by swarming them with low tier stuff.
>>98906159It would be a powerful argument if WS4 Termies weren't 200 pts vs WS5 elite Termies' 250 pts.So, for every 4 squads of your guys, the enemy gets 5. For your model to work (on Despoilers instead of similar regular Termies), the Despoilers guy would need a ratio of 3 to 1. But proper Despoilers cost about 130-140, so it's closer to 2 to 1, which the WS5 player can totally deal with.
>>98906189Oh, I dont mean terminators, I mean very literally despoilers and tacticals. The advantage of WS4 terminators is almost purely "slot". WS5 terminators are universally elite or retinue, which are - for most legions - very limited and require either your apex, a logistical benefit, or specific listbuilding (via the champion aux detachment), which all have a significant opportunity cost associated with them.
>>98906189>250Lets be honest, no they arent. Theyre 300+ because youre buying them upgraded weapons. And theyre actually 600~ at the minimum because they come in a land raider, because once you spend 300pts on 5 guys you really need them to get where they want to go unmolested.
>>98906208This is the more likely scenario. For me its deathstar in transport + Seekers(or equiv) + some other really killy elite, then 2x10 tacs in rhinos, and the rest of the list the killiest things you can fit like a melta kratos.I yearn for blocks of tacticals, preds/tanks, a dread, some cool 1W power armor units to taste, and one centerpiece elite unit.
>>98905282Too bad
>>98906208>Theyre 300+ because youre buying them upgraded weapons.Eh, generic Command termies are 270 pts per 5 already with hammers (140 +80 +50). Others (Justaerin) are yet more expensive and powerful, but I guess a direct comparison is less fair as they become more and more divergent. With the Land Raider (~540) the Despoilers do achieve a 4-1 ratio, letting them survive the WS5 Termies by virtue of being too numerous to engage.Anon's >>98906159 argument stands. Seems like a win for balance in this edition, right? Everything having a niche, a use.
>>98906655Oh I meant direct line of sight. Artillery being able to reach it seems fair.
>>98900397I choose to belief 30k Eldar look like the RT era New Romantics/80s Big Hair Jes Goodwin art. Topknots are lame we need elfros.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwW0pUr-Yv0
How is HH different to 40k?t. nogames but models in 40k aren't really grabbing me
>>98906655I want to make something like this out of like the new Krieg artillery and a larger plastic tank, could be fun
>>98907187Much better fleshed out rules for each legion compared to 40k, also cool unique legion special units and lore.
>>98906388Seekers are cool. Theyre reasonably cheap "good at shooting" normal dudes using slightly fancier boltguns to kill weird elites dead.
>>98907187HH has rules based on 6th and 7th edition 40k (although it has evolved quite a bit since then).Vehicles work very differently, unit stats work very differently, weapons work quite differently, etc. HH also tends top be played with much larger armies, the normal game size is 3000pts (vs 2000 for 40k) and within those games there is simply (usually) a lot more models and (imo) a lot more of a "this is a proper army" feel with large formations of dudes instead of "heres my 5 man action squad, and heres 3 10 man elite specialist squads with a character in them". Special characters are also rarer and less neccessary. Theyre powerful, but you arent facing calgar in every marine list. The models are also imo much better, closer to the older (proper) aesthetics of 40k and with much more room for persnal expression via conversions.
>>98905260pff. he has primaris parts both his foot, gloves and the sword. I like >>98905312Well I do like broad swords, but it is not like the blades can't be replaced. the GK kit has great slimer power swords,
I just want the old designs and unlimited interchangeability back...
>>98907595Same. But at least nuMkIV is close enough. Another big issue is the 5 same poses across all kits. It sucks and it's very noticeable when looking at units on a table. It's just a cost cutting thing just like the lame B&W transfers. Meanwhile 40k gets lots of 10 bodies kits (like CSM, DG) and full color tranfer sheets

>>98907773See anon I am from an older generation. I appriciate a good laugh. Plus I do know my english is attrocious. Funny. You made my day. Two thumbs up.
>>98907793Glad I got you to smile, Polebro.Let's keep the AI to a minimum going forward, I don't want it to become the norm here.
>>98904832Bigger. They're more in the "not-quite-Primaris" range of the nuCorsairs and nuLotD minis. The nu30K Marines are a fucking puzzle - they made them bigger than the old plastics, but not as big as GW themselves now make "firstborn" models in the 40K range.Regardless of GW's retardation, what's important is that TB models are the *correct* size, relative to modern GW human infantry.
>>98907827Are GW arms, helmets and weapons compatible with them?
Speaking purely in terms of fluff, what would be more suitable for burning through fortified rockcrete - a melta weapon or a volkite?
>>98905084No we aren't. Any accommodation is surrender. Any acceptance is cowardice. Primarisharts should be bullied here, they should be bullied on forums, on social media, and they should especially be bullied IRL. And the best part is that it works, anons, it works to bully them, to cast them out - one of those heinous subhuman pieces of shit once tried to "proxy" using Primarisharts at the 30K evening I run and I flat out told him no, pack them away or get the fuck out and the sad little weaselfucker actually tried to make some big impassioned speech about how we needed to let Primarishart 40Kfugees infest our group and our game and not care about our experience so they can pretend for a few months that they aren't going to go running back the next time GW offers them the opportunity to felch some disgusting 40Kslop out of their corporate butthole(obviously what he actually said was a bunch of peace & love bullshit about being more welcoming, but everyone knows that what they actually mean is "let us destroy your space while we're temporarily too embarrassed by the state of ours to participate in it").Literally every single person there just looked at me, the host, and awaited my pronouncement of his fate. My group is still going strong and has a reputation for integrity and a fantastic community spirit, and he is once again sucking James Workshop's rancid cock at the local GW store.Death to Primarisharts, death to Primarishart lovers, and death to Primarishart collaborators.
>>98907827>The nu30K Marines are a fucking puzzleNo, it isn't. They want to avoid cross-game compatibility except for a few factions like Custodes and Daemons. It's the same reason MESBG uses a smaller scale than WHFB/AoS
>>98907802Actualy I asked grokmeister to make a picture of my Ugly Bros and he made that. That Grok is a smart one.
>>98907846But that would just be plain evil. Making their customers buy two armies instead of one, just to enjoy warhammer as a hobby. There had to have been other reasons. Maybe it is like that legend of the Russian rails, where the ministers asked the Tsar, if the Russian rails should be wider, he anwsered them, a bit angry confused, нaхyя, which they understood as an direct order and made all Russian rails wider by the lenght of an avarge penis size.
>>98907844This. So much this.Fuck the lazy idiots dilluting the HH identity and aesthetics. They should get no sympathy. No quarter, no mercy.
The Chinese are on to something.
>>98907870
>>98907834Depends what ones, and what proportions you prefer. IMO the most important thing is consistency. If you choose to buy TB's arms and heads as well, stick with those or 3D print extra stuff to match. If you choose to use nu30K parts with them then exclusively use nu30K and prints that match etc.
>>98907859No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering, cumrade
>>98907870cute
>>98907827Nu30k marine scale is so fucking retarded; the baby hands, the tiny baby helmets, the ugly backpack redesigns, the round random bits everywhere, removal of the sharp edges on the armour.
>>98907842Volkite would do fuck all, so melta.
>>98907844Correct.
>>98907699What a newfag cope, it looks off the moment you mix them with older bits or put them up with older armies. The whole scale change was a big fat mess.
>>98907697Big guys.>>98907834Yes.>>98904832Pic related.
>>98908018
>>98904832
>>98908029Hope that helps to see if you wanna troon out or not.
>>98907697Yes, way too big imo. They have som great minis but cannot fit to old fw or plastic marks
>>98907773lol the AI gave him a mold line down his leg
Some more space wolves primed. What sounds like a funner(more fun?) character to have leading some despoilers, a champion or a librarian with telekinesis+divination?
>>98908086A chaplain with a stick on which there is a dead wolf head which is used as crozius arcanum.
>>98908108I dont have a chaplain built yet.. Probably get around to that when I get some inductii.
>>98907595You can have it back, if you're willing to put the work in
>>98908117what was used for the little rivets? looks metallic yet tiny as FUCK
>>98907431I love my resin MKVI I've used since 1e but but I keep seeing them in every list. They were also too strong with breaching 4+, and better now.
>>98907607I like this photo, it brings joy.
>>98908137>They were also too strong with breaching 4+, and better now. This is "true", but I think the thing that fundamentally made seekers wasnt them being slightly better at damage (the breaching nerf isnt nothing, but its not the end of the world either), its that "they do everything". Whatever you want, more or less, seekers can provide. Raw damage, sniping, statuses, positioning/early scoring, you name it they have it. And theyre not that expensive either, so asides from the opportunity cost of an elite slot the investment isnt very high. Likewise I dont think theyre actualy "that OP" in any given area, outside of maybe "killing characters" which they still do fine enough. Theyre not 2e lascannons or dreads which can oppress the game if left unchecked, theyre more like havoc launchers this edition, where theyre just so obviously good for their pts that you may as well have some even if the "total effect" isnt particularly large. A ressonable army shouldnt have much issue killing seekers.
>>98908159Basically: I think seekers existed (and still exist) in a similar space to the humble rhino. They wont win the game, and theyre not going to just wipe the floor with the other guy on their own, but theyre just very efficient for the pts that its basically a safe "no brainer" to take some because theyre always bound to do well by you. There arent many units like that in 3e, even the melta kratos is more of a meta pick reliant on getting a big enemy tank to shoot at.
>>98908042That's why you start a new army project with them. Old FW looks just as jarring next to nu-marks.
>>98908117Don't bother, just buy tortuga they are the same size to 40k DG.
Heresy Battleforces tomorrow probably, what are your predictions? I think there's a solid chance we'll see the fourth fucking custodes box of the year.
>>98908204Watch as it sells out instantly and solely to 40k players.
>>98908204We already have the custodes box, believe it or not those are usable in 30k.Its going to be arachne, tarantulas, and breachers. Then a medley of mech plastic.
>The final division of the Templii Magisterium Tertia is that whose role was shielded most ardently from those outside of the Imperial Household, for its implications and history were fell indeed. Its remit was that of the executioner: the eradication of any element held unworthy by the Emperor, be it due to betrayal or simple obsolescence, such that not even its memory endured. It is believed to have been the Custodians of this ‘Templi Veritas’ which enacted the cull of the Thunder Warriors at Mount Ararat, and who saw to the disposal of those deemed tainted in the final days of the second Rangdan campaign, alongside countless other grim duties all but erased from memory. Hey Lost Legions lore in a random article.
>>98908141Yeah, nuMK4 is okay. Not perfect, but not a mess like nuMk3
>>98908242Custodes are so fucking cringe
>>98908135Just ballbearings, you can get them as small as 0.5mm diameter
>>98908405Those look WAY smaller than .5mm. Im looking at them on amazon right now and they look bigger than those....
>>98908362they die nicely
>>98907844And then everyone clapped.
>>98907844
>>98907844Its impressive how you managed to be a bigger fag than the people using primaris. Genuinely. All you had to do was say "no, the models are gay and shouldnt be socially acceptable", instead of your pathetic little "and then I told the teacher that actually SHE was the one who should apologize!" story.
>>98907844I don't know what's cornier, this cringe fanfic or your samefag replies. You know we can see your IP, right?

WHERE THE FUCK IS MY UNIFACTION WARS GAME, GW?WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY PLASTIC THUNDER WARRIORS, GW?WHERE?!?!?!?!?!
>>98909633Cleverly disguised as the lightning warriors from Age of Sigmar.
>>98909633That's a space marine. There are no official depictions of thunder warriors. It's always marines in old armour marks.
>>98909740'ris poor bait, m'lord
>>98909633I like the cool sunglasses the Thunder Warrior on the Outcast Dead is wearing
>>98909740True...but that IS Thunder armour. Marines wore every armour, Thunder Warriors wore ONLY Thunder Armour. If we had art of Thunder Warriors, they would look like that, because they only ever wore that. And that's the art: in the books we never actually see marines wear Thunder Armour, only Thunder Warriors – the Dark Angels in the palace counter-coup and The Last Church wore MkII and noticeably didn't look like TW.
>>98909740>There are no official depictions of thunder warriors.Outcast Dead cover.Plus we've seen official art with Thunder Armor in it (Fuck, even the Armor Through The Age models), which Thunder Warriors wore. So we know what they look like.>>98909755Sadly I fell for it.
>>98909740
>>98909775>Outcast Dead coverI think that guy was a marine wearing salvaged Thunder Armor...but again, Thunder Warriors look like big guys wearing Thunder Armor lol
>>98909795>I think that guy was a marine wearing salvaged Thunder Armor...Nope.Your next cope, retard?
>>98909788
>>98907844>>98909434Just so you know, your rampant seething at everything primaris has caused me to spend money on buying primaris bits specifically to kitbash onto heresy models. You're welcome.
>>98909800Didn't you read the whole comment? I'm agreeing with you. Wtf.
>>98909814Pouches and gubbinz look cool and don't necessarily scream primaris.I wonder what primaris bolt rifles would look on 30k marines' hands. I liked this art where the bolter looks too big for regular humans to even lift, let alone shoot.
Played ligma and was teaching a new player, not that I am super good. Feel bad, they conceded end of turn one. They weren't ready for AL infiltrate and forward deploy. We also couldnt find rules for units inside flying transports that are destroyed? is it just like normal ones?
>>98909767>that IS Thunder armourIs it? The legs look fully closed and the helmet and shoulders are different. The other example people like to use specifically identifies it as a MkI/II mix.>they would look like that, because they only ever wore that.Leg armour was not standard to the suit and noted as being common among marines.>>98909788Is this space marine model suppose to mean something?
>>98908204Knights combo box with a Questoris and some Cerastus that isn't a lancer
Made some solid headway on some space wolf despoilers. Hopefully have them done for a game on thursday. Related to this: which of these sounds cooler?>Interdiction cadre + Master of Signals + augur command squad>Quad Mortar (for the SA allies) + librarian (or maybe champion) which would go with the despoilers in a rhino
>>98909239Fucking shit my hands are way too shakey for that shit, also the guy for SURE didnt use enough glue for the rivet he did to stick fully. Its going to come off on the first few brush strokes when he goes to paint it...
>>98909672An army of these guys as eternal vendetta + abberant broken helix blackshields would be really cool imo.
What are some cool generic power armored units/stylish loadouts that make you go hell yeah? I rediscovered a bunch of leftover MKIV I had pulling my 30k out of storage.I already have both flavors of destroyers, shotgun recons, breachers, seekers, and heavy disintegrator vets.
>>98909672I see the vision with that model but I feel like it needs to look a bit more techy and cobbled together, actual unification-era armor was half as likely to have been dragged off the corpse of some techno-barbarian fighting against the imperium as it was freshly manufactured.
>>98910397Did you 3d print the mkIV jump packs?
>>98910489A sea of tacs.
>>98909814Be sure to tell your mom.
>>98909120They really don't, especially compared to the resin mkII. Nice paint jobs tho.
Custodes venetari, I'm guessing I only want 1 or two shields per unit of 6, for the bonus against volley? Reckon it's worth doing 3 just to run one of each if I ever play 40k?
>>98909814>Ooooooh he makes me so mad! Why is everyone agreeing with him! I know! I'll make up a story about wilfully being a rancid paypig, that'll show him!lmao, okay kid, tell your mom I'll see her next Thursday

Big boxeshttps://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/nuc8rzsm/new-horus-heresy-battle-group-boxes/
>>98910489Power axe/spear + shield. Heavy chainsword squad.
>>98911561Eh, not bad in terms of savings and model count, especially compared to some of the 40k boxes. But not exactly impressed with the contents either. Maybe if they threw in some upgrade kits, but as is, kinda tired of plain old mkVI and III tac squads.
>>98911561seems really good for newfags, you basically get a nice looking vanilla combat force from either boxI don't need anything from these, but I like them much more than the 40k/AoS boxes
>>98911561As others have said. These look pretty good for a "battle force" style starter box, like the maximus battlegroup too for that matter, but theyre not exactly something I want as someone who already has an army.
>>98909672It's the boots that get to me. They look too dainty. If the boots were beefier, it wouldn't be such an issue.
>>98911561>IF get a praetor model>SoH get a command squadI guess some autists didn't like to put a MkVI character in with MkIII models.Wonder if, once they make all the armour marks, GW could make an "Marine Armour Through The Ages" box with 10 of each armour mark in it.
>>98911561Nothing for SA?
>>98911561Where are the mech and solar auxilia boxes?
>>98911729personally I rather take a command squad, considering that you can kitbash five characters with the extra parts from the other kits
>>98911709If someone wanted to start a new legion he could do a lot worse than just buying one or both of these.
>>98911108I have 80, should have mentioned >>98911612Not bad, maybe I'll look at despoilers
>>98910546I like to thing that this would be a primarch. That regular rank and file dudes would use legs of goliaths, wear more furs etc.
the christmas boxes are a little boring. Should have been>space marines>cult mechanicusFor variety.
>>98909996Nta but if you took the time to read you would notice it's referring to what this >>98909775 post is talking about.
>>98909814>just so you know I'm enshittifying my models just to spite you, yes you and I'm also going to paint them with my fecesLMFAO
>>98911561Is that it? 2 shitty boxes? You would have expected this to be at least a box per faction with how much they hyped this up.
Noob here. Can jump packs be magnetized, as to swap them out for regular power armour backpacks? What is the feasible limit for magnetization?
>>98912045>how much they hyped this up.They had one throw away line, they did not hype it up. I expected one box with how little fanfare they had. They hyped up the 40k boxes.
>>98912053Anything can be magnetized, it's just the new torsos have connectors/extra geometry, especially the mkii ones have over the shoulder strap things.
>>98912021Is the person with the mark 1 helmet on the cover of the novel been identified as an actual thunder warrior? All references I've ever seen has said them all to be the space marine members of the Outcast Dead. None of them have power armour and seem to just be bare chested with crossed straps holding their shoulder pads in place. Unless the person with the mark 1 helmet has sculpted breastplate in flesh colour and no backpack, it's probably just the helmet from thunder armour.
>>98912053Yes, but some bodies (like assault marine ones) are built in such a way that the jump pack would be hard to do that with. its much easier on normal marines/with the old jump packs, where you literally just attach them like a power pack.
>>98912213It's Taranis, there are gangers in the book that have mk1 looking armour and he's a gang leader.
>>98912335Why is his armour in EC colours and has EC emblem and a Roman 3 on the forehead? Why does the guy next to the Astropath have his armour in WE colours and have a WE emblem on the shoulder?
>>98912392The WE guy is Tagore, there is a EC guy that died unarmoured before Taranis got to help the outcast dead and then Taranis showed up whose main motivation was getting a progenoid gland from the marines.
RIP
>>98912516Weird that the older one never had this problem. Maybe they just ignored the C&Ds.
>>98912516They just got AI to summarize it and it's even more wordy and shit than the actual HH3.0 rules
>>98911561meh
>>98912107>>98912265Dang I like the metal bibs those assault marines are wearing. Reminds me of the up armouring of mk3. I think that's what proper Despoilers should look like

>>98912516Aw man. I used NuRecruit as a means to not have 4 fucking books open at the same time.Horus was right to rebel.
>>98912516>its for legal reasonsBullshit. You cant copyright protect rulestext.
>>98910397Trim on the despoilers done. Now for the little belts and power lines and stuff on them. Also to paint some skulls on the faceplates of the ones who dont have proper NL helmets.
>>98911729>IF get a praetor modelIt's not even IF, that mini was clearly designed for the EC
>>98912791It looks bad no matter the legion, even with that really nice paint job.
>>98912561Theyre nice, but if you glue them to the torso it becomes impossible to magnetize the backpack. You could maybe have them be "part of the jump pack", and be removed alongside it (if magnetized). But they (afaik) do not fit onto normal backpacks.

>>98912959Yeah because of the shitty sword and troonscale.
>>98912516bullshit given old-world-builder exists
>>98912643You can copyright the way that mechanics are written but not the mechanics themselves in the UK. It's what happened with warmaster becoming blitzkrieg commander, cold war commander and future war commander or epic armageddon becoming exodus wars. The rules function the exact same way but they are written differently.
>host rules on a website>be greedy and get money out of the service you provide>GW can't copyright strike you for just hosting text>but they can for profiting off of their IPNR had it coming, OWB still exists and has had no issues because they don't have a patreon or whateverremember liber panoptica or whatever it was from those discord retards? tried to profit off it via donations and got their shit kicked in by GW legal
>no battleforces for auxilia or admech what did they mean by this?
>>98912101they spent 3 weeks leading up to this, they could have just announced all the battleforces together or at least alongside the AoS onethem waiting so long to announce it is nonsensical
>>98913451The issue is the pose and helmet (and gun). That sword is goofy, but could have worked as a two hander on a model where its size is recognized. It does not work alongside a (scoped) volkite held one handed. It loses all sense of weight and just ends up looking oversized. The overall pose also isnt helping, its too "static" and ends up just looking fat because of the cape and the way all the elements around the body "pull in" to just make it appear as an almost homogenous mass (which also just makes the sword stand out even more as the one exception, except it lookis comical, a lighthouse atop a boulder). The heads are also bad. Both the helmetless and helmeted heads are just shitty looking. Doing a good looking mk6 head is hard, but theyve done it before. Just not here.
>>98913921>Doing a good looking mk6 head is hard, but theyve done it before. No they haven't. Good looking mk6 is an oxymoron, it's a shit looking meme nostalgia mark no one asked for. If you want gold looking mk6, you get mk4 instead, which is why they were the first plastic mark back when GW knew what it was doing and not just mindlessly nostalgiabaiting.
>>98912791For some reason I think EC used a lot of volkite, but I cannot explain why
>>98912568An Aeronautica supplement for regular 30k 3E games? We already got Air Mission, what else could possibly be in there?
>>98913675They are background fluff. Literal NPC factions to be saved or destroyed by the Marine Protagonists
>>98900204at what point do you just say fuck it and start speedpainting?
>>98914014Never? I feel like I'm wasting money if I take shortcuts to paint my minis considering what I paid for them.
>>98913921>It does not work alongside a (scoped) volkite held one handedWait, marine scopes aren't high gain scopes connected to their auto senses? "I need not turn to shoot ye, knave, lest ye spoil mine view"
>>98913670Interesting point I guess this means homebrew content and fanzines are allowed but you can't have any remuneration to assist in production. Which feels untenable if you have any level of editorial or production involved. Even the NAF who are the biggest love of the game nuffle boomers of any GW fandom still charge £10 a year memberships to this very day just to keep things running at low ebb.Jesus I miss Fanatic press lads.
why the fuck are combi weapons 10 points when full specials are 15? I'd buy them at 5
>>98914444Because internal cost balance is fucked this edition.
>>98900397They should be, but none of the writers ever remember that. I read a pretty well-thought-out fic a while ago that portrayed the non-Webway eldar as being more like Corsairs and Exodites than 40k Craftworlders, the fall was still in extremely recent memory, individuals had been used to millennia of reincarnation, and they had yet to adopt much of the austerity of the Asuryani. But it was also a smutfic with genderswapped primarchs, so ymmv.
>>98914444How much would you have combis be?
>>98914479>Eldar actually fleshed out>But gender bent Primarch smutficA proper eldar mind
>>98914444Because full specials are much more limited availability retard. You want BS5 meltas, pay up
>>98914575You would have a point if vet support didnt exist who have implacable advance meltas for 15ppm. Specials being more rare, y'know outside the widely available unit everyone can take, doesn't mean combis should be almost as expensive. Who else can take combis en masse? Seekers? They want kraken bolts. Mor Deythan or Head Hunters? Thats legion specific. The odd combi flamer isnt bad, for panic. Combi bolters are 5ppm which is fine. Combi volkite? I suppose if you play against mech, solar, or militia. Chargers are also dirt cheap anyway at 2ppm. Its really combi melta and plasma that dont have a place being 10ppm.
>>98914444Well for one because combi weapons frontload more power (weapon + bolter). For another because theyre a lot more common. You cant take a grav gun on your terminator or centurion, but you CAN take a combi grav. Its not HSS and TSS buying them, its largely melee units that both wont be using a standalone special weapon to its fullest most of the time and also dont have access to said standalone weapons anyways. Its like asking why despoilers pay 10pts for a power weapon when twin lightning claws exist and are also 10ppm but are better: Because the 1/5 despoilers who swap for a power weapon cant take TLC (or a thunder hammer, or whatever else). Units operate with what they have access to.>>98914630>Who else can take combis en masse?Tactical vets, centurions, praetors, terminators. In other words: not VSS - an extremely niche elite choice which has "can take all the shooting weapons" as its gimmick. >Its really combi melta and plasma that dont have a place being 10ppm."Im going to drop a unit behind your line and explode something with a volley of melta shots"Thats the use case for combi meltas. You put them on a unit to allow them one explosive round of shooting, either the turn they deep strike in or the turn they are going to charge after disembarking. Combi plasmas are a similar concept, except for infantry. You put them on something to get a plasma SS squads worth of shooting from a unit to support their charge before it happens.
>>98912654Leather, chainswords, and some flesh on the exposed arm guys left to do. Also a load of gubbinz on the esoterist.
>>98914630>if vet support didnt existBut their special guns are BS4, right? So, a unit with lots of BS4 special guns, or one with a lot of BS5 combis that are special guns for one turn. Seems fine.Combi prices themselves are... underwhelming for some, yeah. But combi-melta not having a place being 10 ppm? No way. Even in 2.0 they were so.Though I'd rather lower the cost for units already using combi-bolter base, like Terminators and Headhunters
>>98914745>Its like asking why despoilers pay 10pts for a power weapon when twin lightning claws exist and are also 10ppm but are better: Because the 1/5 despoilers who swap for a power weapon cant take TLCThe sergeant can, so I ask the question. And my answer is that twin claws should cost the same as one claw...but one claw should be 15 pts, because it's the very same as a sword but better.
>>98914765>BS4, rightVolley Fire>>98914745>CAN take a combi gravThat seems more like an oversight, so much so I forgot they existed and didnt include them in my examples. The combi weapon box doesnt even have them. >frontloadIts weird you can shoot both, even so that means theyre for just shooting infantry. >power weapon vs claw costpower weapon costs are not balanced this edition, that is widely agreed on already, bad example>other things that can take combibut why bother? Combi bolters and arguably combi volkite or straight volkite serve them better to round out capabilites. Even then, if their job is melee and you dont want to risk failing a charge from shooting casualties. Save the points for better melee weapons.Combi weapons are found more on BS4. The only generic BS5 unit that could like them are Vet tacs, which occupy the same slot as VSS that have volley fire to compensate for BS5 that works offensively and defensively. I would make an exception for combi grav, if you can find the bits, that seems absurd.
>>98914815Volley Fire is fine on them, I got no issue with that. BS5 would be spooky and oppressive, especially all game long. I would fear it
>>98914834Right, nothing wrong with volley on them, makes not taking heavy a real consideration.
Hey guys. New and coming from TOW/MESBG. My life circumstances have changed and I am now in a place that has an active HH community. I was interested for a while, but had no local community. I used to play 40k pre 8th and fantasy but quit when they killed fantasy and only returned like 1.5 years ago when they brought it back. Do you guys have a source where I can read up on the legions/custodes/solar aux/mechanicum? Just get a general lore overview, how they play, pros and cons that kind of thing. Also how would pic related be for getting into the game? Is the other box better, I don’t really like the mark of the armor in the other sons of Horus box. Can I run a legion without running any of those ugly marks? Or are the marks just a cosmetic thing? Also how is solar aux and mechanicum play wise? They both interest me quite a bit. Not really interested in custodes.
>>98914879>Also how would pic related be for getting into the game? Is the other box better, I don’t really like the mark of the armor in the other sons of Horus box. Can I run a legion without running any of those ugly marks? Or are the marks just a cosmetic thing?Marks are purely cosmetic, a lot of generic units are made by taking a tactical marine squad and using an upgrade pack (or converting with 3d printed bits). Both of the boxes are pretty good starts for an army depending on what you're interested in, honestly probably the biggest choice of which box is whether you like assaults or breachers more, or tanks or terminators. If you're willing to commit, doubling up on a box or grabbing one of each is a large way through an army, which you can complete by grabbing another HQ or two, a legion specific unit, or a few more tanks.
>>98914879Solar aux, mechanicum, custodes, etc all have their own libers (codexes) which will have the general overview, doesnt look like we have them in the gofile link in the OP so you'll have to ask around. I'd also check and see if anyone has the old FW black books, they have a lot of lore for each faction scattered around (IIRC book 3 extermination has mechanicum, book 4 conquest has solar aux, book 9 inferno has custodes).>Or are the marks just a cosmetic thing?all the basic power armored marines are interchangeable, the different marks are purely cosmetic. Terminator armor actually has different rules depending on the armor type.
>>98914879>I can read up on the legions/custodes/solar aux/mechanicum?https://1d6chan.miraheze.org/wiki/The_Horus_Heresy:_Age_of_Darkness>vanguard boxIf you like all the models, yes. Tacs in rhinos are core in 99.999% of lists. >marksgot soft retconned for everyone to have all of them and a lot of them>SolarGuard+, synergy, bricks of infantry and tanks alike>MechVaries from zombie cyborg masses, to elite robos. Slightly higher floor due to a lot of technobabble interactions.
>>98914815>The combi weapon box doesnt even have them.It also has reloads/spare energy/fuel canisters despite having limited 1. Its a strange box.
>>98914943Those zombies look useless, and Castellax & Vorax seem to run on Pentium 2. And Reductor, the very first technoarcana is so criminally unsupported!I know the crimes of 2.0's Mechanicum, but their 3.0 incarnation is borderline outrageous.
>>98914943>Guard+Not without orders, the very essence of the Imperial Guard. Hence why I don't accept Militia as being the Imperial Army. Militia is the Planetary Defense Force.
>>98914992Are you joking? 3.0 Mech is way better than 2.0 mech, especially as a cohesive army.
>>98914992Zombies are fun as hell. Also a great way to play necron models as the strange metallic skeleton xenos from the crusade.
>>98914879>Lore overview?Read the lore sections in the core rulebook and the liber army books to get a feel for the different factions. PDF download links are in the thread OP. If you want more lore there's also rulebooks and campaign books from the previous editions, plus more than 50-something novels.>Is the vanguard battle group good? It's a good deal for new players, especially if you can get it from a discount retailer. It's almost 800 points without upgrades and it's a solid army core for any legion. Realistically though you'll need at least a couple more units to actually play. The main game is intended for 3000+ point armies, smaller games are possible but balance can vary. There's also a 1500 point game type called Zone Mortalis played without vehicles (think ship boarding actions and corridor battles). >I don't like certain armor marksThe different armor marks are purely cosmetic so use whichever ones you prefer. Any legion army can use any mix of armor marks (even within the same squad). Certain armor marks are generally considered more lore-appropriate for certain legions but it's not a hard rule.>Suggestions:If you do end up going astartes pick a legion based on what you think is cool, not what you think will be good in game.

>>98915322>But I remember Vorax had WS4 base. They also cost 50% more, died to krak grenades which were inexplicably ap3 only to fuck over automata, had useless weapons in both melee and ranged, and their greatest use was to die and explode in melee. Mech was a horribly designed army in 2.0 and anyone who doesn't know that didn't actually play them.
>>98915408I had forgotten its "power weapons" were AP4. Wtf. 1.0 really traumatized people didn't it.Alas, the solution was giving them proper power weapons, not making them immune to krak and Melta bombs
>>98915268They're fan fiction. The Imperial Army is the premier human army.

Isnt that weird? How even an indisputably subpar option sees play when the alternatives arent available? It does not matter if a 15pts melta gun is better than a 10pts combi melta in the grand scheme of things, because the unit buying the 10pts combi melta cannot buy the 15pts melta gun. So what are you going to do retard, buy a whole TSS to get those better melta guns? >but why bother? To do the things the combi weapon of choice does? Are you stupid? "why would you want to add a status effect in a convenient package you are already taking, what purpose does that serve">Even then, if their job is melee and you dont want to risk failing a charge from shooting casualties. The sort of long-bomb charge that would care about this isnt one you should be making anyways. >Combi weapons are found more on BS4Yes, most marine weapons are. BS5 is rare. It is literally just veteran tacs and seekers (excluding characters). >which occupy the same slot as VSSAnd yet an entirely different role and pts cost. One is a support unit, one has line. You see how they serve different roles yes?
>>98914879Custodes are basically "ultra chaos warriors" in terms of how they play;. Proper chaos warriors, not the neutered TOW stuff. Super elite and "one note" army, play their game and lose, deny their game and win.
>>98914879>Also how would pic related be for getting into the game?Perfectly fine. Its probably going to be good value for money and all the units there are just generally useful.>Or are the marks just a cosmetic thing?Yes.
>>98914879>Also how is solar aux and mechanicum play wise? Both are very strong. Mechanicum are (on paper) the most complex army, and operate a bit like tomb kings/VC in terms of having generally unresponsive units tied to key "wizard" characters. Unlike VC and TK however they are also arguably the most elite army in the game (or used to be anyways, now custodes might edge them out due to all the admech pts cost reductions) that isnt "imperial knights"Solar aux are all about their regiments, you pick what your army does and sort of stick to that theme (artillery, infantry hordes, tanks, melee), their infantry is really good for the pts cost, but is comparatively trash made of paper, their tanks however are really durable for the pts cost instead (the leman russ in particular). >>98914992>and Castellax & Vorax seem to run on Pentium 2And it doesent matter because theyre dirt cheap and incredibly tough for the cost. Its what, 50pts for a t6 3+ 5++ 4w body? Not to mention of course that the priests you have loads of anyways buff their low stats to be better in whatever way you need. >And Reductor, the very first technoarcana is so criminally unsupported! And yet thallax (now 3+ save) are insanely good even without a free 5++ on them. >>98914992>but their 3.0 incarnation is borderline outrageous. Its probably stronger than in 2e. Its just less abusing specific broken things and more being a cohesive army that has multiple working pieces.
so uh, what do I use for listbuilding now beyond pen and paper?
>>98916404unironically upload the rules to AI and guide it a lil, check mistakes. Easiest way to do it rn, way better than fucking around with a list builder
>>98915898there are none, unless you can print yourself. then its just a case of scouring the net for a few scraps that ive seen....the custom/conversion scene for that particular kit is pathetic. def regret buying some....
>>98916335>And yet despoilers and assault marines take them. Isnt that weird? No? You've missed the point. The points being out of internal balance doesn't mean no one takes them. It just means people don't take things like swords. Plus the whole TH vs PF thing. It's not like they're 99 points a pop; they just shouldn't have certain things that have a better choice cost the same or should make them more comparable.
>>98916404You use a different repo that has all the old rules and continue as normal or use other builders.
>>98916355I mean there's nowhere to really put a Reductor Magos in. Myrmidon Destroyers do benefit...but their LD goes down, it's not the same ;_;
>>98916588>The points being out of internal balance doesn't mean no one takes them. That is exactly what internal balance means. If the units that should be taking power weapons or combi weapons are taking those weapons (and for combi weapons they certainly are) then that means the internal balance is correct, and they are fairly competitive against alternatives available. The reason power weapons have bad internal balance is that they exist on the same sgt weapons/officer weapons list as thunder hammers, fists and claws, and that this means no one takes them on THOSE models (which is most models that can take them) because THIS is when the comparative pts cost matters. >they just shouldn't have certain things that have a better choice cost the same or should make them more comparable.Okay. Im going to explain something to you. "pts" do not mean anything on their own. In a vacuum it does not matter if a bolter costs 100 pts or if a thunder hammer is two. Pts matter because of how they affect the game, the lists, and what they mean for other options. If one unit buys thunder hammers for +0pts and another buys chainswords for +10pts, but the second unit keeps buying chainswords? Then it doesent matter that in isolation a thunder hammer is obviously worth more. To tie this all back to combi weapons: it does not matter whether you think a combi weapon is worth it vs a weapon from the special weapons list, because they are not simultaneous options. You cant give your terminator a meltagun, you can give him a combi melta, you cant give your centurion or tactical sgt a grav-gun, you can give him a combi grav. They do not exist as an option for TSS or HSS, they exist as an option for units that already do their own thing to be able to buy some situational utility or power. This is the context for their pricing and why it is fair and balanced.
>>98916777Scyllax and Echidnax exist to be an "order agnostic" retinue option for magi and tech-priests
>>98916780Are you one of the devs working for GW? No one takes swords on any model, no one takes combi weapons outside maybe termis or legion units. You claim a nuanced system but it falls flat in the face of the practical. No one is interacting with the system in that level because it's unnecessary comparison between phenomena. They look and see "why would I take this strictly worse option in this equipment list?" Or "why would I solve a problem half assed?" There are so many units that can take exactly what you actually want, so you just take those. Why would I spend an elite slot for 10 combi melta vets when I spend that same elite slot on 10 meltaguns that have volley to make up for BS4. It's slightly more points, but it's also way more damage over the course of the game. Doesn't matter that they're BS4, they can shoot their guns 4 times across 2 turns. That's way more hits with the desired profile than 10 shots at BS5 once. So yes, a combi melta being 10 points is a waste across a whole unit. If argue even on termis outside ZM it's a waste; spend the points on melee and don't risk making the charge more difficult. A single character taking a combi, panic sprinkling combi flamers, other specific applications are different.
>>98916853>no one takes combi weapons outside maybe termis or legion unitsAnd characters, and the occasional sgt. In other words "a good number of the models that have access to the weapon type". Your malfunction appears to be thinking "well, this one unit doesent take all combi weapons as a dedicated offensive specialization, therefore they am bad". Because youre a moron. >Why would I spend an elite slot for 10 combi melta vetsYou wouldnt dipshit, you would already be taking vets and go "well, I want them to be able to crack open a rhino" and take some combi meltas. That is what combi weapons are for, to provide utility options for existing units. Are you stupid? You arent taking the tactical vets for the combi meltas, youre taking them already (because theyre veterans with line(1) and can bully normal line units well) and are giving them the option to use melta when needed into specific targets (enough to threaten a transport, for example). There is no world where you "instead" spend more points on a dedicated melta veteran squad, because that squad would not do the original purpose you had a unit for.
>>98916333You are blind.
>>98916877What's it like having contributed to the worst edition of 30k?
>>98916903Whats it like being too stupid to understand a game as simple as warhammer?

>>98916853>No one takes swords on any modelBut they look so cool. I wish they were A+1 ;__;
>>98916943You take them anyway. I'm planning on my veteran despiiler squads for my ultramarine being all power swords with a legatine axe on the sergeant, because guess what even though they're the worst choice they still do the job of a power weapon, mow down basic troops at ap3, and I want the aesthetic of a bunch of legionnaires with gladii under their commander with a fasces.
>>98916853>No one takes swords on any modelreplace "power weapon" with "power sword" on a despoiler unit entry and suddenly they would, Funny that isnt it? Balance is comparative. The difference in power between two options only matters if those two options are both available.
>>98916960Yeah but spears also do it, and earlier. But I can't support taking them outside breacher vets because spears seem to have been used mostly for formation fighting, which marines don't do except for a few squads
>>98916977But I don't want to take spears. I want to take power swords, and power swords are good enough.
>>98916986based and power poker pilled.
>>98916967>Change the unit so it can only take swords >Wowee wowzers wow everyone takes the only option nowIncredible, hire this man. Maybe we can go to fixed equipment like 40k. Because clearly that's the level you operate at.
>>98917052>>Wowee wowzers wow everyone takes the only option nowwow! Are you telling me that because certain alternatives no longer exist an existing option gets better? How peculiar!
>>98917052>Maybe we can go to fixed equipment like 40kYou do understand that fixed equipment (or highly limited equipment options) DOES solve internal balance in regards to unit options right?
>>98917072Why are you choosing this hypothetical, that will never happen, to die on? What point are you trying to convey? Why are you even bothering? >Guys if this thing changes then I have a good point! >Thing doesn't change>>98917087So? Go play 40k then.
>>98917091>Why are you choosing this hypothetical, that will never happeBecause it illustrates a point. This would be very obvious with even basic reading ability. >What point are you trying to convey? That internal balance is comparative and rooted in the presence of alternatives. it does not matter if "point for point" a combi weapon is a worse gun than a special weapon, because they are not options that compete against each other. The units that can take combi weapons dont have the option of special weapons. Similarly: it does not matter if a power sword is a less optimal choice than other power weapon options if it is the only option you have available on a unit. It also does not matter if power weapons as a class are generally overpriced compared to power fists, thunder hammers and claws if those other options are not available (which is why despoilers still take all the power weapons they can).
>>98917091>So? Go play 40k then. Are you autistic or just stupid?
>>98917117>illustrates a pointThat doesn't exist in the game. You're conveying a hypothetical that will never see practical. The inverse is also true, if they make power sword Breaching 5+ then more people would take them, but that's not how they are in the game so that point is just as useless as yours.>>98917119Balance points from a different game that is about removing options doesn't not belong in the game that is about having options. The way to balance this game is to adjust points and/or stats. It's abandonware journal slop at this point so we're stuck until 4e next year.
>>98914879DESU these new boxes are not bad. the mk6 box is night because you could easily pick up the bits needed to make a second rhino or a 2nd pred, and DESU 30 marines + 2 rhinos is by no means a bad thing to have, and the dread and character are also great to have. The Mk3 box is the much better value though. You could easily make a 1000 point army out of that box alone. The value of the Mk6 box is around 420 bucks and at 255 thats a good deal. Still over priced for plastic fucking models but. DESU good battleforce, no complaint.
>>98915898No.
>>98917072>>98917087>fixed equipment (or highly limited equipment options) DOES solve internal balance>because certain alternatives no longer exist an existing option gets better? No it doesn't. You'd just be removing options. Many 40k data sheets have no options at all precisely because of that, and that sucks. But when options do exist, they are balanced and so equivalent that they can get by costing the same. That's big balance, yours is just removing options. It isn't too wild to say that, if spears hit early and mauls hit harder, then swords ought to hit more often. Why would that be so wrong?
>>98917155>That doesn't exist in the game.Thats what makes it a hypothetical. Thats what "hypothetical" means. if it existed in game it would simply be "a thing that exists" (like the example of power weapons on assault marines and despoilers). >The inverse is also true, if they make power sword Breaching 5+ then more people would take themCorrect. An entirely unrelated point (not actually the inverse of what was said, because you have somehow failed to understand what was said and what the conversation is about), but true nontheless. >so that point is just as useless as yours. The point that buffing statlines makes weapons better? Also, just for curiosities sake. How would you feel if you didnt have breakfast this morning?
>>98917155>Balance points from a different game that is about removing options doesn't not belong in the game that is about having options.Double negative. More importantly, im glad you answered the question and its "autistic AND stupid". Restricting options fixes internal balance, thunder hammers dont edge out power weapons on sgts if sgts cant take thunder hammers (see: 2e, where statsheet options were more restrictive for many weapon types and therefore you saw more of certain weapons, even if the balance between weapons was worse than in 3e). This isnt a question. Aknowledging this fact is not the same as saying "therefore the way the game should be balanced (in some hypothetical scenario where someone goes around "fixing" things) is by removing options" (that may be warranted in some cases, but its frankly an irrelevant and unrelated conversation). Aknowledgement =/= endorsement or advocacy.
>>98917350I don't think anyone is contesting that anon, the retarded thing is thinking combi weapons need to be as efficient as full special weapons when the whole point is that they're the intentionally worse but broadly available alternative to special weapons, or thinking chainswords need to somehow compete with power weapons like a 40k retard
>>98917350>But when options do exist, they are balancedBetween datasheets or on datasheets? Because thats the relevant comparison. A combat blade and chainsword are balanced against each other. Theyre not balanced against a master crafted power sword, so guess what, the master crafted power sword isnt on the sheet and therefore does not hurt the internal balance of the sheet. >Why would that be so wrong?Because it fundamentally misunderstands the roles of the weapons and why they have the profiles they do.Swords hit harder than spears but less hard than maces and axes. Swords hit faster than maces or axes but slower than spears. Swords already have their gimmick, its being the jack of all trades master of none. Spears trade any "extra" offense to go first. Maces and axes get "extra" offense on top of just being a power weapon, but get negative I modifiers. Im also ignoring how retardedly strong +1A is, because I am going to be charitable and assume its just some sort of half brained hypothetical and not a "serious" suggestion
>>98917470>or thinking chainswords need to somehow compete with power weaponsI mean, chainswords can't be "basically a CCW" because they just aren't worth giving up a bolter for one, especially when having an extra CCW isn't giving you extra attacks anymore - the sarge has the same attacks with or without chainsword. If a sarge gives up a bolter for it, he should get something for it. Something that actually works when fighting 3+ save 1W marines, so you don't come preaching the wonders of AP5 Shred6
>>98917678Despoilers have an extra attack innate to represent the extra attack from bolter + chainsword. Veterans have 3A for the same reason.
>>98917489>Swords hit harder than spearsNo they don't. Not even on a 6 when hitting a target they shouldn't even be engaging, because no thing that has a 2+ save and has no Invuln. You are making the argument that a sword is equal to a spear +25% faster than it (and has Precision) because it hits 0.11% harder....but +1A is indeed so very strong. The forbidden buff. Maybe if they scored Rending (a good hit auto wounds)...irdk
>>98917710Veteran Tactical sergeants have 2A with bolter and bolt pistol, and 2A with chainsword and bolt pistol. They gain nothing big giving up their bolter. They remain whatever their datasheet says they are, and all someone gets by switching from a bolter to a chainsword, is they get envy for the guy who kept their bolter.
>>98917724>Not even on a 6One is Ap3 on a 6, one is Ap2. So yes, swords hit harder, objectively so. Is it a lot harder? No, power weapons (even power axes) simply arent that good into 2+ saves. But it IS more than what a spear does. >You are making the argument that a sword is equal to a spear +25% faster than itSpeed isnt a matter of %, its a binary, either you are or you arent. Its about breakpoints. If you are facing someone with say, power axes, then a spear and a sword are equally "faster than the other guy". >...but +1A is indeed so very strong. The forbidden buff. Maybe if they scored Rending (a good hit auto wounds)Anon thats a lightning claw. (which is also superior to every generic power weapon, rending is nuts).
