Do you run special scary/thematic sessions during Halloween? My old group years ago would come to our Halloween session dressed up as their characters and I'd run adventures that felt like ghost stories or murder mysteries. My current group thinks they are too cool and refuse to have such naked and unabashed fun.

Tell me about your Halloween themed sessions and adventures, or really just any time you've delved into horror elements for a non-horror game. Hell, I'd settle for table traditions if you have any.

I'm not American.
Plus I'm Catholic, so I'm busy with All Saints' Day - quite a number of graves to tour when you're 40+
>>
Yes, I'm actually running tomorrow night. Get ready for spookums.

care to elaborate?

I run a one-shot horror game every year.
Two years ago I ran Where The Fuck Is Dracula, which is a rules-lite game where Dracula crashes into your space colony.
Last year I ran The Count The Castle and the Curse, which is OSR Castle Ravenloft.
This year I'll run 3:16 Carnage Among the Stars, which is Starship Troopers, and run them through Aliens. Dracula may make a cameo appearance.

Any particular rites besides cleanup, candles, and prayer?

Just played a horror-themed BG, tomorrow we'll probably go for a horror-comedy oneshot. No Dracula tough, but you know what? Might be a good idea.

Yes; usually I will run a Halloween AD&D game for my group. Last year we did Tegel Manor. Year before that we did Palace of the Vampire Queen. This year we're doing Castle Xyntillian.

We played one last week for the Dragonball game I'm in. 3/4ths of the party was in costume because our plans got interrupted by a vampire-turned-demon who was using a magic rock to power a machine to blow up the sun. Picrel were the costumes, the arcosian's dogshit homer simpson cosplay sets off my fight or flight and I drew both this and the image he paid me to draw that he edited.

I have a little party and run Call of Cthulhu for friends every October.

I used to do a Bolt Action event where everyone had one squad and had to survive waves of zombies. We would always get people coming out but then it suddenly died one year. And now there's K47 muddling the waters of the Weird War scene so it's less fun for me.

Is there a real place called Tikiville? I think part of the joke is the reference

Would you have dracula carry around a surfboard and never use it just to piss off players who get the reference?

We usually have a special Halloween episode of our PCs getting into weird spooky horror scenarios as one-shots (only memories of it later).

Sometimes the PCs turn into monsters.
Sometimes they are attacked by monster hordes.
Sometimes they have to solve a monster mystery ala Scooby Doo.
Sometimes the monsters are YOU!
>>
>Every year start thinking about a Halloween session early September
>Every year get a massive workload come later September early October
>Every year cancel Halloween session
The realest scare of all was the frightening amount of responsibility.

Adulthood is the real horror show
