>"umm anon I'm feeling pretty wiped out idk if I can do next session"
>entire group is deciding to cancel over this
What the fuck? I used to sleep 5 hours a night on average, getting up ass crack of dawn, working a long shift, and then I would still come and RUN the game for you. It's too much mental effort to play? Fucking how? You sit on your phone half the time anyway. And it's not my fault you're not as able to get into the campaign, I offered you ways to bring your character in heavily involved with the PCs current adventure, but you wanted to play some fucking literal isekai freakshit race instead. Your significant other is the one driving you there anyway, so you don't even have to put in any effort, mental or otherwise. Holy fuck why are modern players such titanic pussies?

Post ITT your annoyances with your current set of playoids.
>>
>>98903364
>take any excuse to bail
game must be mid
>>
>>98903364
I run three games so I'm sure to have at least one game every week. Get gud scrub.
>>
>>98903369
This is so extremely true and it's funny how many GMs don't realize this.
>>
>>98903443
that being said, some playoids think their undiagnosed ADHD is proof their GM is "bad" so it's a toss up. Best strategy is to call everybody involved a fag from the safety of my impartial third person seat.
>>
>>98903364
>>98903455
>5e is implied
>>
>>98903455
Maybe. The fact that the entire group was fine with cancelling suggests it's a GM issue in this case.
>>
Not current set, but did have a group that started out as a typical group that devolved into min-maxers playing the same type of characters and builds every campaign or game system we did. You can tell that they no longer had the spirit of role playing in them any more, just number crunching. It was kinda sad.
One did become a tranny if you were wondering.
>>
I feel even more grateful for my group after reading this. Worst I have is a player who doesn't read the setting notes properly and overuses flashy magic effects.
>>
>>98903768
>I feel even more grateful for my group after reading this.
I say that every time I visit /tg/.
>>
>>98903369
>game must be mid
Then why do 3 other players never bail, and message me often in between games about their characters and the world? It's only the 1 or 2 who joined later and refused my attempts to actually get them involved in the game, and decided to remain low-investment instead. .

>>98903402
I run two games a week so I'll get a game every week but looks like bad luck has lined up.

>>98903443
Shut the fuck up with this passive aggressive reddit comment faggot

>>98903595
If that really is the case, then one of them can run a game. Oh wait! They can't! I went on a 1 month vacation and all they did while I was gone was fuck around. They, like most playoids, cannot function on their own.

>>98903725
That is depressing.
>>
>>98903594
Nobody said a single thing about 5e you absolute mongoloid. 5e lives rent free in your head, the same way you live rent-free in your mom's basement.
>>
>>98904013
>Then why do 3 other players never bail
>entire group is deciding to cancel over this
Can't both be true.
>>
>>98904042
They indulge the other players bailing because they're considerate people and want to be understanding, you absolute autist. And it's only been one other so far who wanted to cancel. If 2 people out of 5 cancel then the others are going to go along with it. Because unless it's some west marches bullshit, you don't still run a game with almost half the party missing. Even though, I'm realizing, that the "story" (have to use that term in quotes because of braindead spammers on this board) wouldn't really be affected by their absence, because they don't do anything half the time.
>>
>>98904061
>you don't still run a game with almost half the party missing.
So you run a one-shot, a what-if, or a mini-adventure.
Not cancel the whole thing, 3 players is enough for a game.
>>
I haven't DMed in a few years but when I was if even half the group could show up I would still run the game. I had a pretty big party 6 players and 2 of my players got married after meeting each other at my game.
>>
>>98904013
>Then why do 3 other players never bail, and message me often in between games
Why the fuck aren't you cutting dead weight?

Why the fuck don't you have an agreed upon quorum count to run so 1-2 missing players out of 5 doesn't tank the session?

>you don't still run a game with almost half the party missing.

You sure fuckin do. During session 0 you determine what the minimum player count for a session will be and if that many players will show you run. You don't let god's least likeable zoomoid brick your campaign because they can't afford Vyvanse

Saging because this is performative megafaggotry
>>
>>98903768
I've had good groups and I've had shitty groups over the years. I just love DMing way more than I like playing so it's all the same to me. Most of what defines a shitty group IMO has more to do with player expectations being aligned with eachother. I've tried running games with mixed groups where what the various players wanted was disparate and it just doesn't work.
>>
>>98904085
One shots are for faggots and I don't have the energy for something low investment anymore. Maybe in my early 20s when creative capital flowed more freely.

>>98904263
I have one campaign I am planning to turn into that once we get a little further and they get a home base. But for now I'm running a different one and it's such a fucking mess trying to tardwrangle these people through their mental illnesses.
>>
>>98904269
Because they're all friends and don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. And because it's got an actual storyline to it it's not just some DnD slop where it's nothing but killing monsters. And yeah I could run it without them but they all decided to do something else as soon as one person cucked out.

>session zero
Gay zoomer shit for fags who have erite up s contract for every social interaction. I NEVER needed a session zero and I had ZERO problems until I started letting zoomers into my games.
>>
>>98904061
>They indulge the other players bailing because they're considerate people
But not considerate of you.
>>
>>98904646
Jesus, you're a whiny bitch.
Then just run the adventure as planned with less people and tell the absentees to suck it up.

Geee, I wonder what compelled you to look for zoomers for you games...
>>
>>98904013
This comment makes me think the players are smart enough to realize you're massively fragile so they can't be honest about how boring your game is.
>>
>>98904663
>But not considerate of you.
Well of course not, because I'm not the one calling out of a game. When I've had to do it for an actual family emergency, they were understanding. I'm sure they'd be understanding if I said I was feeling kinda tired so I was too much of a pussy to run the game for them.

>>98904690
Then why do they send me art of their characters, talk about it all the time, and know all of the lore from memory? They are very enthusiastic about it, their characters are very involved in the setting (some of them are at least).

I've been in campaigns that were boring as fuck, and when the DM finally cancelled the game because he was too depressed or some bullshit, it was a huge relief. The energy was so low and the disinterest was clear. That's no the case here, the interest is high, the energy is high, but they also are on their faggot-ass phones half the time.

They all have ADHD, anxiety, and depression, all at once.
>>
>>98903364
They aren't actually enjoying your game and are just going along out of social pressure, happened to me too but I was too autistic to realize it at the time.
>>
>>98904774
>That's no the case here, the interest is high, the energy is high, but they also are on their faggot-ass phones half the time.
does not compute
>>
>>98904774
You can be enthusiastic about some aspects of the campaign without actually enjoying the session to session. It usually comes from having a mediocre GM but high quality players. It's more fun to do stuff outside of the game than actually sit through one of your sessions.

They relish the chance to actually engage with the world and do stuff with their characters but realize more often than not you'll fail to deliver so getting a day off when they likely have outside jobs and responsibilities comes as a relief.

These positions aren't actually contradictory at all.
>>
I just don't believe they actually like my games as much as they say. Also the fact that I am stuck as the forver GM in an 8 people group with multiple unemployed members/ uni students. Last time I got to play as a player in my group (i don't count the oneshots with randoms at a con) was over a year ago.
>>
>>98904785
man I don't know what to say, they act super interested and know the lore, NPCs, and state of the game well. When I am not interested in a game or enjoying it, I just straight up tune out. I will leave it if I am not compelled to stay by social pressure.

>>98904791
>They relish the chance to actually engage with the world and do stuff with their characters but realize more often than not you'll fail to deliver
You're projecting hard as fuck rn, they do engage with the world (well, the ones who actually put in the efffort to do so) and have intricate relationships with multiple characters.

The ones who decided to make their character without jackshit integration or links to anything in the world, and then fail to ground their PC or form any relationships with NPCs afterward? Yeah they don't get to be as involved. Especially when they are offered multiple hooks and just kinda half-ass them and then pass it by.

>But she still sticks around to play fucking chess anyway
Probably a blessing in disguise that she's across the pond and stopped playing with us after a while, they had the habit of keeping the rest of us from playing because they couldn't get up in time or had something else going on
>>
>>98904774
>Well of course not, because I'm not the one calling out of a game
But you are the one that's put work into the game and wants to run it, and going by your OP is put out by being denied the chance to do so.
If you think what they're doing is reasonable then why make a thread to complain about it? If you think it's unreasonable why start defending them now? Pick a fucking lane.
>>
>>98905014
I'm not defending them I'm just saying they would do the same for me. But that doesn't mean it's not stupid and pussified.

But they didn't.
>>
>>98905127
What are you talking about retard? I already said that when I've had a family emergency I have cancelled the game and they were fine with it.
But that was an actual family obligation, not some tranny bullshit "I'm tired and depressed wahh" okay fuck off retard I literally have been wiped out and still ran a game that you guys loved.
>>
>>98905164
>What are you talking about
The very thing that this thread is about. You sillygoose.
>>
>>98903364

The other people don't give a fuck about the game as well. If they did, they would suggest a oneshot in the meantime, or at least be ok with that.

Anyway, why do you even WANT people that just sit on the phone most of the time? Just ditch them.
>>
>>98905198
>The other people don't give a fuck about the game as well. If they did, they would suggest a oneshot in the meantime, or at least be ok with that.
No, we don't do oneshots anyway. They know I wouldn't run one. They'd rather just sit around and make retarded reference humor jokes all day to some YouTube video that came out 30 years ago.
>>
>>98905215

The question of where do you even see engagment in them is bigger still, honestly.
>>
>>98904979
>You're projecting
Nah. I've never been in your situation as a GM. My playoids love my games.

I HAVE been in your player's position when I was a player though and I'm telling you exactly what's happening. What you do with that info is up to you and doesn't really matter to me.
>>
>Can I play this homebrew race that I found on the inter-
No. Unless if it is something that would actually be fun and has been tested, no.
>Next character, asks the same thing again, with the homebrew I already said no to
I do wonder if I should run a full homebrew for [insert system of choice] to see how batshit things go though.
>>
>>98905221
They get enthusiastic about roleplaying when they actually do. Some of them aren't really involved because again they didn't make a character that fit the world, and refused to roleplay. Okay fine. I tried 3 or 4 times to give them hooks. They didn't bite.
Even the active roleplayers will be on their phones every 5 seconds.

>>98905223
I've been in that situation too and if that's the case then these guys are screwed because they will never find a game they enjoy. No one else among them can run a game. They tried and they all lacked the commitment to keep it going or the skill to keep others interested. I'm talking over a dozen dead campaigns that lasted 2 or 3 sessions each
>>
>>98905818
>Even the active roleplayers will be on their phones every 5 seconds.

DITCH THE BITCH anon
>>
Couldn't ask for more proof what fucking trash /tg/ is than this thread. I can't take any satisfaction in it though. Its not like you subhumans could even pass the mirror test.
>>

Every time you cry like a bitch, OP, you just give another proof that the first post was right.

an opportunity to reflect on the way you presented things to outsiders and whether or not they see something you choose to ignore.

An opportunity you definitely will not seize.
>>
>>98905818
>and if that's the case then these guys are screwed because they will never find a game they enjoy. No one else among them can run a game.
Perhaps. But judging by the OP post, they're perfectly happy to not play games when the opportunity arises. No tabletop is better than bad tabletop after all.
>>
>>98906305
>Mnnh num num retard shit fresh from extra chromonosonal virgin asshole why don't you like it anon?
Nah.
>>98906358
What do you want me to do? Effort post? I could, but why bother? For some reason the most intellectual hobby here is populated exclusively by the most religiously anti-intellectual people in all creation. This is Dunning Kruger purgatory and it isn't really any of my business to be honest.
>>
Yep, a real wonder why the group jumped the gun at cancelling the session.
Hopefully some day will crack that enigma.
>>
>>98906476
Take your smarmy passive-aggressive Reddit faggotry and shove it up your ass.
>>
>>98903364
It's a zoomer thing. They avoid confrontation of any sort, so instead of saying that they don't want to play in your game, they come up with bullshit excuses about why they can't make it. Kick and replace. There are more players than games these days. It's a GM's market.
>t. will be discussing kicking a zoomer that frequently no-shows with the rest of the group tomorrow during the game
>also will be discussing which of the people looking to join will take his place
>not mad at him, but it's tiresome dealing with low functioning people like this
>strongly considering a blanket ban on zoomers with no gaming experience, they always show up wanting what they saw on tik tok instead of an actual game and are almost always deficient in social skills and imagination in general
>>
>>98905818
>Even the active roleplayers will be on their phones every 5 seconds.
Jesus fucking Christ. I literally have multiple people in my group who have been diagnosed with ADHD, and they manage not to take out their phones for the majority of session. I don't know what you did wrong, but it's definitely not right.
>>
>>98906611
Yeah they do absolutely pathetic things like cry on /tg/ instead of actually confronting the problem players.
>>

>It's a GM's market.
Only if you're running something that fits societal expectations. People want what they see as normal, so they can be validated by others through a common experience. If you try to run a game of DnD, but you tell everyone, "We're playing as genasi only, it's an exploration game of a world of sky islands" or "we're playing as drow only, gather a ton of slaves to win," you're going to get WAY less interest because that isn't a normal game as defined by the game's target audience, PNW liberals.
>>
If you dislike them so much you call them "playoids" why would you even try to spend time with them?
>>
>>98908292
I realized this too, which is why I stopped. SRPGs is the way of the future.

This is my fault for not paying enough attention when he was talking about his character. This is so fucking out of character for him to do, I've seen him tell people not to do this at his own table.
All motivation I had for this game is completely gone, I can't bring myself to care about this anymore. Serves me right for being trusting.

OP is waving so many red flags in every post he makes.

At first you question why the players wouldn't just tell him they weren't having fun in the game, then you start to see why they wouldn't be comfortable saying that directly and would rather make excuses to back out of it without setting him off.
>>
>>98909171
Obviously I'm not gonna call them pussies to their faces.
I'm not abusive toward them at all. Or passive aggressive. I don't "punish" players or engage in any biased actions as GM. That's metagaming, and it goes both ways.

No one has ever "set me off"...I can only think of one time in my 20 years of roleplaying that I got even mildly exasperated at players.
>>
>>98903369
>>98904690
>not having fun with a game
>DON'T tell the DM this
>Don't even leave the game
>just passive aggressively check out and wait for it to end
Why do playoids do this?
>>
>>98910569
I don't think they hate the game, they've had multiple excuses to end it and play something else. There are other campaigns we left on hiatus that we could switch to. There are other campaigns run by other players who GMes, we just never go back to them because they are ass at GMing.

I dont think they hate the campaign, I just think theyre huge pussies.
>>
>>98910569

Gamers tend to be introverted and neurotic so they get up to some really passive-aggressive shit.

I don't exempt myself from this of course. I've organized games in secret because I know there are people who would want to join but wouldn't be a good personality fit.
>>
>>98910569
For me, it's because we've dropped so many games rather than finish them and the current GM is so passionate about it, along with the fact that it would certainly just die if I dropped it.
I like my friends and don't want to stomp on the stuff they put effort and passion into, even if has gone on far too long and is, yes, very boring for me at this point.
>>
>>98903595
Nah. Some players are absolute scumbags about flaking, especially around the Holidays. Once you get into Mid-November you're best off just packing it in until January at the earliest.
>>
>one depressed borderline alcoholic fat chick
>one self-proclaimed "rpg veteran" who has done nothing but dungeon crawl and smash monsters for 8 years before joining my group
>other three are fine

On the whole the group is fun, the alcoholic is about to get her ass kicked out and the rpg vet sounds obnoxious but his stupidity is entertaining
>>
>>98910569
It's because it's easier to just clock in rather than trigger a GM melty and ruin things for everyone else. GM's have a tendency to be very, very fragile and will detonate whole sessions or even games over the most minor criticisms.
>>
>>98913114
it's a hard lesson but anyone creating any kind of story needs to learn the hard truth of pacing. You can easily set yourself up for a thing with too far away or too abstract an ending, and then never reach it. Or you can massively misunderstand how long a story would take to tell. So people set themselves up for a grand epic and either it drags out way too long or they lose interest in telling it and drop it.

Always set yourself up for a shorter story. It will be longer than you expect, and if it isn't you can pad it out after it's started. Save the lengthy epics to the novels, never attempt that massive of a story in any other medium. I'm looking at you literally every manga or webcomic writer out there.
>>
>>98903364
Haven't played for years unfortunately, but I just want to say I hate unbridled powergaming. I know that part of the fun is making a good build that feels nice and powerful, but when you try your best to break the game it just sucks all the fun for everyone.
