If you don't mind a bit of Ron Edwards and The Forge's take on what a game of Roleplaying is, Circle of Hands.

Everyone is John

You are probably the first person who even mentioned this game in the past decade
>>
Not OP, but I'll latch on:
What's a good system if we want to play a bunch of clanker-style robots with the ability to just unscrew and replace body parts (and their abilities) almost on the fly?

OVA, because whatever bullshit you are pulling with this, it will support it.

Are you trying to play Medabots?

Nechronica, in the Ship of Theseus way.
High level DnD (Reincarnate, True Polymorph).

hail satan, but 2026 /tg/ is too dumb for granular systems
>>
>>98912576
You could try hacking Knave to do that, or Cairn.
It sounds like you're basically using body parts as equipment, so you can treat them as such.

Thanks, will check.

>Nechronica, in the Ship of Theseus way.
Shit, I forgot this was a thing, adding to the list.

Hey now, I might stay in 3025, but that's just rude.

Literal clankers, in the style of Machinarium, or Lem's Robot Fables. Everyone and everything is robots. Organic life is the evil and corrupting force nobody likes.

Chirs Perin's Mecha has a specific thing for how the base machine and the pilot interface and it adds up to skills and different weapons with abilities. You could fairly easily swap the term pilot for chips or software or whatever the robot brain is and have base chassis and modular weapons.
Uses an abstract combat grid that's an interesting attempt, I found it lacked a lot of tactical depth so made the grid larger and added a few terrain rules and it helped a lot.
