Is HERO System worth learning?

>>98924946If you like crunch, yeah. It's the very rare system where the piles of character creation crunch all come together into a wonderful result that enables imagination and creativity, rather than the usual result of rules stifling it. But, you still have to like crunch in the first place.I had many years of fun playing it. The sort of character concepts it enables with meaningful gameplay effects--both player and GM side--can't be beat. But it's slow and there's a lot to learn to have a full understanding of the ruleset as a whole, including the understanding that you don't have to and in fact shouldn't use all the rules.
>>98925991Are there any solid resources to learn it like an example of a character and how it looks in play with parts to be wary of? I could scour the wired for it but I’m not sure I can tell gold from shit nowadays.
>>98926130I'd get two docs, both free. The first, Hero in Two Pages, is a super quick primer that does what it says on the tin.The second is the Fantasy Hero Primer. While aimed at setting up fantasy games, it does a good job of walking you through using the system. Since the system is generic / universal, what you'll learn by going through it applies in 99% of cases to any other genre. It's got a walkthrough of how powers work, character creation, combat, etc.
>>98928853Do you have any good Actual Plays?
>>98924946Its bizarro GURPS (both are crunchy and use 3d6). If GURPS is the kind of thing you like you might like HERO, but if you prefer things that run more quickly I wouldn't recommend it - especially since some things WILL take multiple rounds of explaining for players to understand them (see: attack rolls)
>>98924946I enjoy it, but it was the first RPG system I ever played.I suggest if you actually want to explore it you should get the character design software. It makes shit so much easier.
