Apparently the generic option for the warthrone only has the female build. Which is odd as the generic daemonsmith on taurus had built options for both, and the body of the thryng was gender neutral i.e. with breastplates, unlike the other female model on the boat (as well as hjulda) which I assumed was because the body needed to work for both male and female heads. But no, only the female head included.
The body and head are separate though so it's an easy headswap, but idk on a pricey model like that is one extra head option really that much to ask for?

Both me and my usual opponents are noobs so we just common sense houserule anything we don’t understand. We did it for kill team. Like if just a boot toecap is visible on a model we wouldn’t count it as visible.

I find that when you’re new to any game it’s the most fun cause you’re mostly ignorant of the meta and any unfair BS that could arise. Familiarity breeds contempt or so they say.

Why do they have armies then just refuse to give them anything of substance? It’s not like ogors that has a huge range already and simply needed updates. Idoneth is a tiny range. What do they have outside of eels and infantry?? I hope they don’t squat them for the sake of all the IDK bros. After seeing what they did to FS and beast men it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

khorne is another army that’s been hanging on since launch without anything aside from pity characters. Those wrathmongers and stubby little bloodreavers/warriors could use some love.

I have the IJ spearhead which comes out to 540 points if I run brute ragerz over weird brute wrekkaz. Or 530 with ragerz. Any suggestions for expanding it to 1k? Do people normally run the priest AND shaman wizard in the same list? I’m guessing it’s worth getting a unit of pigs for the mobility right? Maybe some more ardboyz and the ardboy boss? I’m open to suggestions. I’d rather not lean into pigs heavily though cause I really like their infantry.

Also, what’s the preferred IJ battle formation? They all seem pretty weak or unreliable unless you take the pig formation

>>
>>98931528
Unironically the new battleforce is pretty good if you like the look of the gruntas, which are apparently a bit controversial. But all the units in the box are good, bog pigs can also be ran as an RoR in other destruction armies as a bonus.
Can't go wrong with more ardboyz either if you wanna avoid pigs.

> I’d rather not lean into pigs heavily though cause I really like their infantry.

i like to run 2x20 ardboyz, 1x6 ragers, and 2x5 brutes as the core of my army and go from there.

ardboyz are such a brick shithouse of a unit, opponents can throw entire armies at them and never shift them. make sure to take an ardboy boss to double their shieldback MWs, shield bash hits faster than strikes first, so its a great attack in large numbers, it works both as offense and defense since killing enemies before they get the chance to attack reduces their incoming damage too.

ragers strike first makes them MUCH better than weirdbrutes

brutes are good as either a reinforced unit for dealing damage or, how i prefer to use them, as a couple MSU squads for capturing flank objectives. they're tough enough that most things an opponent sends after flank scoring like hunters of huanchi or wildercorps generally wont kill them, and the brutes disable scoring for 1-2 health units, so they can just shut down scoring for most units that arent the opponent throwing large dedicated monsters or cavalry units at them.

still worth taking some pigs, playing without pigs at all means you will be quite slow, so i would consider at least getting a mawgrunta or two.

mawkrusha is decent but now that he doesnt have a command ability anymore he's basically just a big beatstick and a good caddy for trophy skulls, but i think the tuskboss is more usable for that because his base is a lot easier to manuever on the table whereas the mawkrusha is very easy to get jammed up and has a harder time getting around terrain or screens

weirdboy is very useful, strongly consider always taking one

weirdfist plays well with huge ardboy units. natural disaster or smashin and bashin are better if you are running lots of brutes or just dont have a dedicated plan

kragnos is in 90% of competitive ironjawz lists but i refuse to use him on principle. could convert some kind of big orruk kragnos proxy
>>
>>98931557
I was heavily considering it for 2k or 1.5k lists but I can print the small pigs and that really drops the value of the box for me. Granted I will get 2 big pigs and assembly is always more comfy to me than slicing and processing resin. I’ll have to think about it and ask myself if it would be a responsible purchase.

>ardboyz

Yeah I think I’m definitely gonna need at least 1 more unit and prob the ardboy boss too
>>
>>98931604
>>98931528

Back Brutes 1990/2000 pts

Ironjawz

General's Handbook 2026-27
Drops: 3
Wounds: 181
Spell Lore - Lore of the Weird
Prayer Lore - Warbeats
Manifestation Lore - Krondspine Incarnate

Ardboyz (320)
• Reinforced
Ardboyz (320)

Brute Ragerz (200)

Brutes (160)
Brutes (160)
Maw-grunta Gougers (200)

Regiment 3
Weirdnob Shaman (110)
Brutes (160)

Faction Terrain
Bossrokk Tower

manifestation lore is whatever you have the points for, krondspine or primal energy are fine, but you could also just ignore them and cast regular lore spells since you've only got 1 wizard. you dont need to sweat endless spells unless you're bringing a bunch of casts, because ironjawz normal lore of the weird is pretty good.

could also drop the mawgrunta gouger for a second unit of reinforced ragers if you prefer, either choice is good.

the tuskboss with trophy skulls is one of my favorite picks though, it lets him muscle units off of objectives on his own and he's cheaper than a mawkrusha, although nowadays gordrakk and the mawkrusha boss are like 100pts cheaper than they used to be so you could squeeze one of them in instead of the tuskboss if you want to run one

They don't want you to have any way back, you must consume only the recent product. Keep in mind GW makes their money on new players that splash big and burn out quickly and whales that don't care about the price. Veteran players with full armies and hobby rooms full of supplies and tools are GW's worst enemies since they come up with demands while not buying much anymore. That's why WotC and Hasbro butchered and alienated their old MtG playerbase.

damn thanks for the tips

>40 ardboyz
I knew this used to be meta but I didn't realize it was still legit with the shield bash grinding
If you're using brutes as objective nabbers do you use the ragerz as your hammers or do the ardboyz serve as the hammer in addition to the anvil? Are the pigs also there to support the brutes in scoring or just as a general fast that exploits openenings? I get they're fast but what do you do with that speed?

And I notice you don't have a priest or a megaboss. I'm guessing the prayer lore just isn't worth taking another 100+ point hero. The megaboss's waagh token passive seems to conditional, is the Brute chain fight ability relevant at all even if you're non-rager brutes are off on the sides?
Do the ragerz even live after the first round after they get their attacks off to take advantage?
>>
>>98931604
I have seen it suggested in a discord to use MSU Wrekkaz as objective grabbers too, since they have the innate ward and can smash infantry that tries coming near

New to AOS. I’ve been reading up on lore and rules. I’ve played some killteam and I started a necron army in 9th. I’m learning blood bowl. All that being said, that’s the extent of my table top wargaming. I want to start an army. Here is what I’m leaning towards, Realm Lords, Kboys, Ossiarch bone boys, maybe tree elves or hedonites. I mean a dwarf army leaning towards overload heavy sounds fun, but I don’t know. I think every army is cool, so rule of cool is out. I am not worried about painting. Thoughts? Suggestions?

ardboyz i typically throw down the center with the ardboy boss inbetween them. they arent a hammer per se but they're decent enough at combat that they can win against most things that dont manage to kill them just through a mix of mortal damage and 40 attacks at -2 rend.

i'll usually throw the big pigs on one flank, left or right, along with 5 brutes, and then the other 10 brutes on the other flank.

ragers positioning depends on what it looks like my opponent is going to do. if it looks like they're going to swing to fight off the pigs i'll put the ragers over there to support them, but if it looks like they've got some big world ender unit like reinforced chosen or varanguard or something that they're going to just try to mulch the ardboyz with, i'll keep the ragers behind the line for a countercharge to strikesfirst their hammer. makes the opponent play a lot more cagey.

brutes just completely shut off scoring to 80% of scoring units in the game, its amazing in practice. clanrats, plaguebearers, rotswords, horrors, mortek, grot stabbas, nothing short of another elite or cav unit can contest against them, its such a powerful tool

priests and megaboss are both meta, take em if you like em. a guy just went 5-0 with a double priest and megaboss weirdfist army with 2x10 reinforced brutes. its just personal preference that i like my brutes MSU to allow them to bully more objectives. between the brutes shutting down scoring and the ragers and ardboyz hitting at strikes first or faster, its really hard for opponents to find a good attack angle without eating shit on the way in.

the megaboss also got a scourge of aqshy warscroll thats pretty crazy, be sure to check that out too
>>
>>98931732
You spent so much time in the /tg/ bubble you have no idea how clueless and bad at decision-making new players are. Tau sub-plebbit has a counter for how many minutes since the last case of someone cracking a Tau Combat Patrol and not noticing there is a Kill Team sprue inside. Every single WarCom announcement on FB has DOZENS of people asking if they have to paint the Marines blue. People unironically think they MUST replicate the exact built they see on the box cover.

This is pretty good! Smooth and convincing. I have a couple suggestions - tonally, it's a uniform flesh tone, but for more convincing skin you should have variance in the coloring.

So, for example, themiddle of the face and nose should have a red tint. A chest has a brighter yellow tint, while armpits have a purple hue

none of those you listed are likely to get squatted. Kruleboyz is part of a bigger tome that includes Ironjawz but they're p much their own army with their own rules. Destruction armies are notorious for their RNG. Everything they do needs a dice roll cause that's GW's idea of balancing them. KB has decent ranged units and lots of monsters.

GW loves to nerf lumineth every edition but they're always strong and have a lot of "cheating." that is to say that they move and cast spells and shoot when they're normally not supposed to. they love to casts spell. they can be really fighty with bladelords and their cavalry and have pretty good shooting units too. They can bring the giant cow elemental and stone guard for a very tanky list. they're p versatile and even have lots of characters. teclis is an insanely powerful wizard if you want to run him. Keep in mind this army is hell to paint cleanly. Their two spearhead boxes are good. You can even still get their last battleforce if you look hard enough. Their new rules use runes that you change every round and have different effects based on what you chose the round before. Once you memorize their rules and fuckery you could probably overwhelm your opponent.

Ossiarch are pretty versatile and use their discipline points to buff themselves kind of like how kasrkin use to have elite points. it's a resource they can use to maintain flexibility and lean into defense or offense or movement when necessary. They just got some nice new models. They got 2 spearheads this year I think. All of them are good including their original vanguard box if you can still find one.
Dont' know much about tree elves or hedonites personally.

Vulkites were already redundant and FS STILL have a ton of foot heroes. They're also probably the easiest faction in the game to proxy heroes as other heroes with. The impact for anyone who actually plays Fyreslayers is barely noticeable.

The main heartburn people had was Fyreslayers actually being removed from the game, which souping them with KH makes basically a non-issue. The chances of Fyreslayers ever breaking out as a separate army again are basically nonexistent, but they'll stick around.

That never works. Any of the far and few Fyreslayer players - like myself, if NTA for any posts in this thread, could post armies, books and materials from old editions and anyone could say "You bought that on Ebay!/You made that timestamp with AI!/FAKE FAN! FAKE GROG! GW LOVES FYRESLAYERS STOP YOUR NAYSAYING!". This is a no-win situation, as usual.

Wait, Flameseekers can be reinforced? Can literally any other warcry unit be or are they unique like that?
>>
>>98932626
Posting models is net-positive for the thread, let's not be silly with these excuses. State the real reason; you either don't want to or don't have the models.
>>
>>98932628
I think most if not all of them can be. It's a recent change.
>>
>>98932628
Alot of models been given reinforcements in the last annual, same with CoS being able to reinforce their grenadiers. Plus also Flameseekers are the default battleline for FS, so it'd feel bad if you couldn't now that berzerkers are out.
>>
>>98932632
And if I posted my models you would be screaming that I stole them from Reddit or Google Image Search. I've played this game and there is no winning against the GW Defense Force and spergs.
>>
>>98932607
>Still LARPING
Pitiful, honestly.

I started Fyreslayers in 2018 by buying the SC box four times. I only bought one SC box initially, but I liked my little guys so much I immediately doubled down. They weren't my first army, Deepkin are what got me interested in AoS initially, but Fyreslayers were my first fully painted army. They've been my favorite AoS army ever since.
>>
>>98932637
ok post your four magmadroths then
>>
>>98932637
Nice.
Did you paint them in specific lodge colors, or your own? Do you happen to have pictures of them? No biggie if you don't.
>>
>>98932628
Recent change, and not just for Fyreslayers. Keep in mind they were reinforceable initially, it was release 4E that decided to remove it from all Warcry bands for some dumb reason.

Post models, LARPer.

I was extremely brand new to model painting at the time, so I was using Duncans guides for the default Vostarg look. I also just really like the orange hair to be honest.

I've messed around with doing some black haired slayers here and there, and one of my droths is Black instead of Red. I've always really liked the blue flame/snow bases look some people do, or the Blond guys.

>>
>>98932726
Subfactions don't need 8 foot heroes (11 if you count the magmadroth extra builds)

when you think about it really, we just traded an extra battleline unitt and a few foot heroes, but in return we got the golems we've been asking for for 4 editions straight, some artillery, and if you put a runedaddy on the boat we got a new lavaboat too.

overall i'd say fyreslayers came out ahead, even if you ignore all of the kromdron infantry and heroes. plus almost everything in the book runs on the khazalites keyword instead of the grimmdron or kromdron keywords, so most of the new guys and army rules and traits play well with thee fyreslayers stuff too. this isnt like a spiderfang situation where the subfaction is just a useless appendix of half forgotten retirement home residents waiting to be squatted that are keyword bingo'd out of most of the army. they actually feel integrated mechanically

For the very same reason they squatted most StD Warbands, all Underworlds kits, many old ETB kits, big chunk of SCE kits and a few armies altogether - thye have limited production capacity, prioritize multi-selling kits over the single-purchase ones and force models rotation to keep the sales going.

Well that's true for almost everything but what we are discussing is the decision-making process on the company's side.
People got too accustomed with fixing GW's shitty decisions and mistakes with house rules, proxying etc. Almost none of the Warhammer games was ever good compared with non-GW games, AoS 2e and Warcry being exceptions here.
The main and arguably only advantage of Warhammer games over non-GW games is how popular and homogenised the game environment is. The game is shit BUT you can grab your army, travel 5000km away and still play the very same shitty game at different LGS out of the box. The moment you start to alter any of the GW's rulesets you may as well switch to any far more superior game.

Wargame kits have options, because they matter given the options afforded units.
A board game usually doesn't. AoS doesn't have rules for options, it has new kits entirely without, etc. Warcry is a literal skirmish game and the later kits, including Flameseekers, lack the diversity of even 1e Warcry kits.
There's nothing wrong with the distinction but it's there. TOW is firmly in the camp of a wargame with kits providing options, rules reflecting that, etc. I presume GW would deliberately diversify their games instead of

>>98934778
Warcry kits always come with options, nomodels. Including the very flameseekers that you mentioned.
Tow's releases come with less options than aos these days, have you seen the chaos warriors?
>>
>>98934780
I provided an actual source from the store page so suffah.
>>
>>98934766
aos doesn't simulate anything, it's an abstract game aka board game
>stand in circle statistic instead of bravery
>once per (army)
>command abilities issued by the player rather than models
>rally resurrection
autistic but I understand the categorisation

Thank you Anon. I was trying to help myself with Lexicanum and TCRepo but the deeper I get into my Battle Bible project the more I realize how patchy and decentralized the 1st edition was. It didn't strike me as much back then but now 10 years later it is quite a hassle to even determine a list of contents, not to mention finding said content.
>>
>>98934621
>I will not consider any Spearhead that comes with a Warcry leftover warband "fantastic".
Retard.
>>
>>98934804
Yeah, people just didn't care about "narrative" content (pre GHB). I was puzzled to discover even compendium pdfs were a little hard to find a few years ago.
>>
>>98934778
Retard, if anything it's the opposite. Necromunda is gw's most customizable game.
Back to /twg/ with you
>>
>>98934813
Do you happen to have 1st edition compendiums as well? I'm quite sure GW released compendiums for Brets, TKs etc but I can only retrieve the Legends compendiums through the web archive.
>>
>>98934819
Didn't they remove all of the band customization in favor of Underworlds style "pick this prebuilt group"?
>>
>>98934860
I have no idea, but looking at the newest releases there still seem to be lots of options so I'm going to assume not

>>
>>98934515
This anon >>98934586 more or less has the right of it. The elite infantry being the most heavily armoured flies in the face of what the DoK are about. Blood hags should have been called "initiates" or something, and they should have been a defensive (probably chaff) unit.
Elite infantry for the DoK should wear little to no armour, but be decorated in elaborate (and impractical) finery and garments. Give them veils or flowing strips of silk that trail behind them - really play up the whole "brides of Khaine" thing -, and a weapon that emphasizes mastery and bloodletting.

>>98934595
Awful kit to put together. It's only saving grace is that it's super easy to scrape the detail of their tops off and sculpt exposed breasts over, since the corsets frame them so nicely.
>>
>>98934621
>I'm a retard and I insist on being a retard
Okay, retard. Flameseekers are literally the best Fyreslayer kit right now, best looking and most useful to boot.
>>
>>98934645
>prioritize multi-selling kits over the single-purchase ones
This is just another reason they would keep the Warcry kits, they're all designed now as normal units that you can run loads of and they're very popular.
>>
>>98934778
>Warcry is a literal skirmish game and the later kits, including Flameseekers, lack the diversity of even 1e Warcry kits
This is one of the most retarded, blatantly untrue things I've ever seen anyone post here, which is saying a lot for TG.
>>
>>98934987
He overplayed his hand way too quick with this one. Easily could've stretched out his bit for another dozen or so replies but flew too close to the sun
>>
>>98934977
Good for them, I hope FS players stay happy and healthy. It does not change the fact that Flameseekers are a Warcry warband and will get axed with the 5th edition release, just like all Warcry bands.
>>98934983
>they're all designed now as normal units that you can run loads of and they're very popular
I can see that with 40k Kill Team but AoS started to do that only recently I assume? Gorgers were clearly an existing unit update but other than than only Questor Soulsworn strike me as a "real" unit.
>>
>>98934990
Hunters of huanchi, cos wildercorps, ydrilan riverblades, and maybe pyregheists are also perfectly normal units. The FEC and KB ones are a more of a grey area, as are the monogod chaos ones.
The normalish warbands far outnumber the gimmick ones at this point.
You still haven't explained why they'd treat these guys any different by the way. They've just been recycled into aos proper.
>>
>>98934796
Anon you can swap the heads of the weapons, even by Fyreslayers standards that's the bare minimum. Let's not get ahead of ourselves now.
>>
>>98934990
>Good for them, I hope FS players stay happy and healthy. It does not change the fact that Flameseekers are a Warcry warband and will get axed with the 5th edition release, just like all Warcry bands.
None of the Warcry Warbands will get axed with the 5E edition release and you'll be hiding in nine months instead of admitting you're a fucking idiot.
>Gorgers were clearly an existing unit update but other than than only Questor Soulsworn strike me as a "real" uni
Flameseekers are a real unit. So are Hunters of Huachi, who literally replaced the old Chameleon kit. Riverblades, Wildcorp Hunters, etc etc.

Literally, LITERALLY the only squatted Warcry Bands are the old STD bands, and mostly just because they had 10x as many as they needed. Even then STD still has two Warcry Bands.

I dont. They are a pure contradiction to how battletomes present khainites and their culture. Someone at the studios did not care when creating them. Like... at all. Even their warscroll is completely off what the unit description tells us. That warscroll is NOT "elite" in any way, even if we ignore the mini aesthetics. It is just a mess all around

Yeah as we all know that's what decides whether or not something is a wargame; the presence of head options.

No I'm with the baiter here it's insane that they didn't bother putting in one measly little extra head option in a kit that costs the same as a spearhead. Same for tahlia, and vhordrai too while we're at it. (Though that one at least has the option of running it as a generic dragon)
It's not a hard conversion, no. But for that price you shouldn't have to.

If you actually bought into the army you'd already have him from the army box. Then you could just use the female Thrynn as the foot Thrynn by sticking something under her feet to angle her upwards. I'll be concluding our interaction here since I feel I have offered enough guidance that a reasonable human could act on and I'm certain you have nothing of substance left to say.
>>98935516
I agree it sucks, but we all know exactly why he's even "complaining". For the price they charge those characters should have had generic options but for reasons beyond our understanding they simply didn't. They could've done it for Ionus too, to give him a Knight or even Lord Draconis option.
